I ordered a taco salad to go, and overall it was really, really good. When I got it, you could tell everything was fresh -- the pico de gallo was bright and flavorful, the lettuce was crisp, and they definitely didn't skimp on toppings. The shell held up nicely too, even after taking it home. The only thing I personally didn't love was the shredded chicken, but that's just me -- I'm not a shredded chicken person at all. Flavor-wise though, everything was still on point. I also got a side of rice and chips with salsa, and both were solid. The rice had good flavor (not bland like some places), and the salsa had a nice fresh taste to it that paired perfectly with the chips. While I waited for my order, I had one of their fresh margaritas -- he called it a skinny margarita made with fresh lime juice -- and let me just say... 10/10. So smooth, super refreshing, and honestly one of the best parts of the visit. The vibe inside is low-key, authentic, and welcoming. It's a family-owned spot, and you can feel that as soon as you walk in. Most of the conversation is in Spanish, but they absolutely understand English and are very friendly. One of my favorite moments was talking with the owner. I noticed a beautiful cake sitting up front and asked about it, which led to him sharing that he was a chef and baker in the military before retiring. The cake was gorgeous -- like professionally done -- and just added to that personal touch you don't get everywhere. Overall, this place felt genuine, fresh, and full of heart. A Mom and Pop Mexican restaurant you have to try! My Dad caught the whole family by surprise by introducing us to Degollado. This family owned restaurant looks like it was at one point an old Wendy's fast food restaurant. The margarita menu has so many flavors to choose from. If you know you know about the white sauces that are served with chips and salsa at Virginia Mexican restaurants. Not all white sauces are created equally, but this one is just right. So we tried a new to us Mexican Restaurant and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. So we have driven by here numerous times, but never had any desire to stop. Since we have recently moved and are looking for local places (we moved about 5 miles), we have found some very surprising places. So we went to Degollado and the food was so good! Jorge our server was super nice. Margarita's were very yummy, a little sweeter than we are used to, but they were good. Salsa was very tasty. I had a tamale, chili relent, rice, and beans and it was very good. Lots of seating, parking lot looks big enough, bar is well stocked. I would recommend and will be returning. read more

It was good traditional Mexican fare. A large menu of what you e come to expect from local Mexican places. They have daily specials that seem inexpensive and a good value. We ordered a the Burrito de la Ruleta, one with beef and one with chicken. Both were good and fresh. The queso and sauces were excellent. Old decor really is the reason for this rating. We were sat quickly and food came out quickly but my food was WAY too spicy considering that the spice level was not mentioned on the menu. I got the Chicken Quesadilla Grande and didn't realize how big it was going to be: two large tortillas put together! There is a back room that looks like it used to be a greenhouse and the decor is just sooooo old with CARPETING! I think it's a good spot if you're in the mood for Mexican and don't feel like waiting 5 hours at Jessy's Tienda, but I don't think we'll come back. We've been coming here on and off for several years, more so when we lived around the corner. This is standard Mexican fare, the kind you just know is made in advance and is heat-lamped to get it out fast. We came in for lunch today. I do like that they serve their lunch specials everyday, not just on weekdays. They have a pretty good fajita quesadilla, but it's huge and I wasn't that hungry. I went with the #11 - cheese quesadilla and enchilada with Mexican rice. Nothing to write home about, but decent. Hubby went with #3 - burrito, taco and rice. Again, nothing amazing. As others have said, the beef in the taco was lacking flavor. We also ordered the cheese dip, which is a little more flavorful than the plain cheese that you get at other places - much appreciated, but they serve it in a small shallow bowl. For $3.50, there's not enough there to make it worth it. All in all, not bad, but not spectacular either. Considering there are 3 Mexican joints on Little Creek Road between Shore Dr. and Chesapeake Blvd., this isn't one we'd go out of our way to get to. Came here with the boyfriend after forgoing a trip to the grocery store. He's real big on Mexican. Me, not so much. We came across a groupon for this place & decided to try it out. We ended up getting there around 8:30 on a Monday night.. there were still a couple of groups of people dining. Service didn't seem to peeved that we came so close to closing (9PM) so that was cool. We were received by some chips & red and white salsa as well as a waiter that took our drink order right away. I HIGHLY recommend their house cocktail.. I believe it's called the Cantarita or something. It went well with my (breaded - never had one like that before) chile relleno, enchilada, rice & beans dinner special. Boyfriend got two Pacificos & the camarones a la diabla. I preferred his much more than mine. I'm not a fan of spicy, and it was hella spicy, but the flavor profile was amazing. He also got a hard shell beef taco. Bleh.. it was more like a sloppy joe taco. Definitely not in a good way. The fried rice was strange too.. more stale Chinese fried rice than Mexican rice but we were pretty close to closing time. The service was amazing though. I didn't catch a name, but they definitely have top notch customer service. It's definitely a factor in our decision of possibly come back. So my daughter just moved in to the area and has been busy all day moving in to her new place. We FaceTimed and of course as a mom I asked if she'd eaten. No hasn't eaten all day except for coffee but doesn't have time to order bc she has to return her moving truck, but she's dying for a margarita. I told him I wanted some extra tortillas with the order as only 2 were included with the meal and wanted a couple extra churros with the order. THIS GUY WAS THE BOMB. He totally hooked it up and my daughter got a FEAST of an order. As a Chicagoan we have pretty high expectations as far as quality and service is concerned. I'm happy we found this place as her fajitas were hot, generously sized, she couldn't stop to talk because they were so delicious! And the churro order ... well that will be plenty to share with her friends when they come later to help her get settled. I didn't ask if they also deliver margaritas, but assumed they didn't. Came across this place one day because Azteca down the street had no parking.. I'm so glad we found it. It's warm and inviting with great food for cheap prices. Best. Enchiladas. Ever. The sauce tasted and smelled homemade. It was packed with flavors especially that of sweet fresh tomatoes. The enchiladas themselves were not overcooked and the tortilla melted in your mouth. The chicken was juicy, flavorful and I appreciated the nice slices of cooked peppers and onions mixed in. My brother got a sampling for four kinds, beef. chicken, beans and cheese and said each was more delicious than the last! Although we ordered the kitchen instead of the fresh guacamole, it still tasted delicious and fresh with just the right amount of heat. On the outside the restaurant itself is unassuming and easy to miss. But NEVER judge a restaurant by its exterior! Speed is not the issue. They are also very friendly. Kudos on the politeness front. In terms of quality and flavor of the food...forget it. What ends up on the plate is every bad mexican food cliche you have ever heard. Hard shell taco with ground beef as a filling. An enchilada smothered in a sauce that came out of a jar. Thing is I like hole in the wall joints and I thought I was gonna be surprised by the food, and yip I was. I got the pork chops, and they were hands down the worst pork chops I've ever had, or a close second, and I've had plenty pork chops.
