They did a great job. I needed a cut and happened to be walking past, no where near my normal gu barber. Looked in and it seemed to be an old time barber shop which I like. Clean. 0 stars if I could. Speaking about the barber who refuses to give up on the 3 pieces of hair on top of his head that he slicks back like his life depends on it. He was seemingly in a rush even though I was the only one in there - finished in 10 minutes. Disregarded any instruction I gave him, cut it far shorter than I asked, and was not apologetic when I expressed these mishaps. He smeared wax all thru my hair seconds after I instructed him not to, and got water all over my shirt while giving me a "shampoo" which was more of a malicious scraping of the scalp. Terrible. The website clearly says a men's haircut and a scissor cut is $24. The sign by the cash register says it's $30. The haircut was very fast (much faster than comparable barbers in the neighborhood), and it was as bad as I've ever had, sloppy, uneven, you name it. I cannot begin to explain the horror that is my haircut from this place. The older gentlemen on the right when you enter could not care less what my head looked like. He was rude and made me feel like I was crazy when telling him he is doing something in a way I dont like. The top - I get a short fade on the sides and keep it very long on top. He cut my long hair on top with the clipper in chunks and said its ok. I asked him not to cut those and he continued as he rushed through my head. There are not huge areas where I will need to spend months re growing this hair. If this is the style of cut you get.. be careful! When clipping the sides - He chose his own length and went to town. I then pointed out that I am ok with the length and just pointed out that he missed a large patch on the side of my head. He got angry and then went over it with a different length of clipper attachment. He then told me "See! its fine! ok??". Overall, stay far far away. I cannot stress this enough. If you have questions, you can direct message me and I am happy to explain further or convince you out of it. I have never been so terrified sitting in a chair. As for those looking at the price, $21 is not cheapest in the area so go elsewhere if this is your concern. There are actually places for $16 (fifth ave barber) and others at the 21/22 mark. Just went here for the second time, turns out I had left a review on Google Maps the first time around, but not Yelp. So here goes - Sam did an awesome job and cut my hair exactly how I wanted. Prices are great and the attention to detail was terrific. Quick, efficient, done right. Also worth mentioning that in the time since my first haircut here (3 weeks ago), my hair grew out evenly, which is a sign of a good barber. With an inexperienced barber, my hair will grow out unevenly on the top and sides, but Deja Vu did it right and it still looked good after 3 weeks, and just needed a trim. A+ job (again) and I'll be back in 3 weeks. Thanks again Sam! read more

Overall not a great experience. My barber seemed like a nice guy but not the friendliest. Asked for a fade and he didn't fade it so well. Haircut was very rushed.. the whole thing was done in 10 minutes and there were patches of hair still left on. One of those cuts where you get back home and take out your own buzzers. Unfortunately, Ariel gave me the worst haircut I think I've ever had in my life. I showed him a picture of my previous haircut for reference, but he worked too quickly and messed up literally every aspect of my cut. too short on the top, even after i told him repeatedly to keep it long, too long on the sides, even though i asked him to go shorter twice, both of my sideburns are crooked. I'm not super picky about my hair, but I literally have never had a worse experience than today. read more

This was officially the worst visit to a barbershop you can possibly have. I was cut by somebody who is bald on the top. First I asked him to do the sides and back short with a fade, he kept it very long and there was no sign of a fade. Then going as it he wanted it to be a 2minutes job, he didnt listen correctly and was cursing in Russian, which I happen to understand. He cut it entirely bad, to a point that I decided to have him remove all my hair. As a result he refused to wash my hair after shaving all my hair, and added 3$ to the final bill. After coming home I found out there were still pieces of hair on different parts of my head, that were way longer compared to the rest, which is clearly a terrible mistake after already ruining a haircut. I went back and somebody helped me after some minutes to take off these pieces of hair, saying the extra money on the bill was tax, which is untrue. I wonder if this guy is a true barber, because I feel like he did it for the first time without practice, and next to that does not know how to handle customers at all. read more

I like my barber shops to be no frills. I just want a good barber to get my hair cut right since I have course hair that tends to start curling when it gets long. In terms of value, you're definitely getting the best bang for your buck. The haircut costs $19, and comes with a free shampooing. The important part is to actually communicate properly to the barber what you want. You describe it incorrectly, and he's not going to give you the haircut you want. I've been here twice, and they've done just that. Is it one of those shops that offers you a foot massage and a glass of whiskey? Not really. But then again it doesn't cost $50 to get a haircut either. I've had those and besides the barber being more attentive there is no real difference. read more

I got a haircut with a bald guy who, for some unknown reason, was rushing to cut my hair (although the place was empty). He finished my haircut 3 minutes and simply ignored EVERYTHING I said. Took my boyfriend to déjà vu barber shop for the first time today. After 6 years of searching he finally likes déjà vu barber shop. Luckily they accept walk-ins. He told them to leave the top alone and just cut the back to begin with. Happy, he then said to remove the weight, which the barber did. They ended up agreeing on trimming the top a bit after all, which he never does. He was very pleased with the results and how much time they took to get it just right. read more

Afterwards I asked to take a little more off the top and he did about 3-4 snips with scissors and it didn't do anything at all. I do not understand how anyone can complain, or give them one star. This is a nice barber shop, and I love the old time look. They are also skilled barbers, I been there many times, have had all the barbers cut my hair, and have yet to get a bad haircut. I have no favorite, I wait for the next barber up, and have them cut my hair. I also get my hair colored there. They have two different color processes, a fast one which takes 5 minutes, it is a wash and takes out 80% of grey. Then they have a longer process which takes 30 minutes, and is a full color. I live just down the street from this awesome, old school barbershop. And while I originally visited out of convenience, it soon became one of my favorite places to get a cut in Manhattan. For $21 you get an excellent cut and thorough wash -- which is hard to beat anywhere in the country, much less in Manhattan. Won't honor prices on their website. I brought cash prepared to pay for the price of a tape up on their website. I was told I can't do a tape up and would have to do a haircut even though I only shaved the sides and back and it took less than 10 minutes. I ended up paying by credit card. Credit card charge included an extra charge and I was told it was tax. But NY State sales tax is 8.875%. This was not tax but interchange they charged me. I don't appreciate the lies. read more

Can I get a trim around the back and sides, with scissors - no clippers please? Yes sir! *pulls out clippers, shaves my head on a 3 all over* So yeah, six months growing-out down the drain. I don't know if it was a language thing (I'm British - he was an older gentleman with a thick accent) and he didn't understand me, but he acted like he did. Even the hair on the top of my head was lifted with a comb then clippered, so there is no definition in length. My head is just sort of like a fuzzy tennis ball now and it's too short to do anything else about. Saying 'well, you get what you pay for, champ' with a smirk and lifted eyebrow doesn't really count in this case as most other barbers in the surrounding area charge $20 a cut also. Ok, I really can't believe this place has a 5 star rating on Yelp. I have just gotten one of the worst cuts ever from this place. Granted it a cheap price and I know the saying " you get what you pay for" but what a disaster. I asked for a very basic cut, faded on the sides and back and cropped on the top. I should have know from the start it was going south when the barber first wets my hair and starts using clippers on it. He took 20min on a basic fade! Then starts to cut my hair which is dry on top at this point. He does about a quarter of my head then decides he really does not know how to cut it! This is after I showed him several pictures of the cut!! So he turns to what I guess is the manager and has a 5 min conversation in a foreign language. The manager looks like he can't be bothered, does not say two words to me, Takes the scissors and just starts hacking away. Once he's done the original barber I had starts to clean me off and take off the bib, No product in hair, he didn't even try and brush it. I had to take the blower dry off the rest of my hair to remove the cuttings and ask of at least some type of product for the hair! Try this place at your own risk! Needless to say I had to go to another salon to get it fixed. read more

I hate to write this review but I have to. I took my toddler here, I told the barber how I wanted the cut but he did something totally different and much shorter than what I had asked. I asked him not to use razors but he did at the end and while "buzzing" my son's upper neck he nailed him 3 times, unfortunately I saw it only when we got home and gave him a bath, 3 pretty bad razor scratches on the back of his neck. This barber shop looks much cleaner and modern than most corner barber shops in the area which are usually ugly, old and sad looking. But I won't let it fool me again. I will go somewhere else. Was about to go to super cuts down the street, but they happened to be full. Found this place near by and decided to give it a try. I got a great cut while watching football, and then a shampoo to get rid of any extra hair finished with a blow dry - all for $19, less than what super cuts was charging for just a cut.
