I also stopped by the shop and asked to talk to him (he was not there). He has offered to fire the person and/or compensate me with $60 + a free haircut if I change the review (photos attached). Giving me a bald spot for fun is way too unprofessional for me to consider changing the review. I have offered to point out the guy to Arthur, but I am not asking for the guy to be fired. One of these guys gave me a bald spot because he thought it was funny. He thought I didn't notice and gave me a fist bump with a slight smirk on his face after the haircut. After the haircut my girlfriend told me I was balding, and I instantly realized what happened. The hair grew back to normal in a few weeks. At least one of the guys working here is an unprofessional jerk, so l'd recommend going somewhere else.

She gave me an awesome haircut and also trimmed my beard so that I can attend the wedding reception with the best looks! She is very good at what she does and more importantly extremely nice and kind person. Once you interact with her you know how much she loves her job and cares for her customers. One tip to add: If you are visiting for the first time, you may have trouble locating the salon. It's right next to De Janeiro. But most of those glowing reviews are pre-covid. I don't know if a lot of their stylists left but there's a notable lack of reviews post-covid. They're kind and the space feels lux and quiet. Problem is communication, went multiple times feeling very whelmed and changed stylist every time. After my third time I think I'm done, I've shown pictures and discussed with them what I wanted but they can never seem to get it right. Instead they default to a generic taper short off the sides and medium top cut, but then why tell me you can do the cut or even have experience with it? Is it my head shape? Face? Am I too ugly? Communicate that to me before you decide to just ignore the conversation we had and just free style. It's frustrating because I am growing out my hair for this cut and they do what they want. I don't want to be rude and stop you mid cut but then why am I paying so much just to be left unsatisfied? Most of the men leaving the place have the same exact cut. Anything longer than a short to medium cut is a no go, those cuts look clean and nice. Kept going in with shoulder length wavy hair just to get butchered every time.

That's 15 minutes each, which after getting in and out of the chair and prepping and combing equals about 10 minutes. You might as well go to supercuts to get that sort of crap haircut. Which brings me to Jerry's! If you are in the city and want to spend 1/3 of what some hipster doofus barber will charge you then check out Jerry's! I used to go to Jerry's consistently when I first started working in midtown but started going to a place in jersey near where I lived at the time, though I still pop over once in a while. If you are in midtown and want a good haircut, this is the place (great if you work in midtown and the boss is giving you crap about your shaggy hair). Mostly older barbers who can do a variety of styles (though I doubt they do shaggy hipster/bieber cuts).They give a very thorough, careful haircut. Usually lasts at least 25 minutes, since they actually take their time and go over it more than once to make sure it is perfect. It is pricey around $30ish I believe, but hey, its in midtown. And of course they use a straight razor, and less importantly but still really cool, they have an ancient hand cranked hot towel machine! P.S. Its very difficult to find (buried in the basement) so ask for directions at one of the rock center info desks located at each entrance.

Every once in a while Life tosses us an unexpected gift; today my hair was the recipient of this unexpected gift in Manhattan. I just moved here three days ago, and I really lucked out by finding the right barbershop, and barber, on my very first venture out to get this mop of lettuce cut. This place was busy on a Saturday morning, and I'm told it can get even busier during the week, but this cool barber, Jose, did a great job quickly getting through My Stepson and I, while not sacrificing the quality of our fades. The same can be said for the other barbers and guests based on my observations of all the many guys coming through: waiting a little bit, then leaving looking crisp on top, with a big smile on their face! Good barbers who know what their doing, and have good hands, can pull off being fast and good, and that's exactly what Jose and these Barbers at Premium Barbershop 40 St can pull off easily. This barbershop is great. The inside is nice and clean, and everyone seems quite professional. More importantly, the haircuts I have gotten there are consistently great. Particularly Artur, (there are 2 Arturs: when I've been there he's second seat from the door--the one who recently came from the Upper West Side), gives lots of attention to making the cut look great taking care with detail and always adjusting to my preferences, does a great job, and always knows how I like it. I have seen all different styles there, and the barbers all seem to do a good job. While there is often a bit of a wait, the process is professional with a list made and comfortable places to sit. Overall a great experience, and even with more of a trip than I would otherwise take, this is the barbershop I will be going to! read more

Arthur and his staff of Barber's are extremely diligent and have undoubtedly perfected their craft. I have been rocking a low fade with scissor cut on top. Most barbers in New York City struggle with the blending part of the cut due to the cowlicks I have all over my head. Arthur made it seamless. My cut is fresh and clean and for the price you can't beat it. I live close by and stop in every 2 weeks to get a shape up. The ambiance, music, and atmosphere will have you believing your wallet will be bleeding after the cut, but that is the cherry on top. I've been living in Manhattan for almost 5 yrs. I've tried so many barbers, including Astor Hair which is very well known. I have a close cut #2 with a taper and I've had trouble finding the right barber that pays attention to details and doesn't cut me, screw up my hairline, or even worse - cut my eyebrow. I am VERY hesitant to try a new barber but I've been going to Arthur for months now and he is the best barber I've ever had. His clippers cut like butter. He pays attention to details. He understands how to cut my hair. He cares about his customers. The shop is clean. You can use the loyalty card to get a free haircut every ten cuts. This place lives up to its name - Premium. I recently had the pleasure of getting my son a haircut by Miguel at Premium barber shop and I must say, it was one of the best experiences I've had. The barber was incredibly skilled and attentive, listening to my preferences and giving him exactly the haircut he wanted. Very professional barbershop with fair prices. I've only started going recently as I just started working in the city and looking for a new barbershop. Well I found it. I have got my hair cut by both Elly and Arthur, both were incredible and know what they're doing. Arthur kept the me past closing time to make sure he took his time on my hair and made sure I loved my haircut/ beard trim before leaving. Hot towel on the face was a plus These guys know what they're doing. There's a certain confidence you look for when someone is cutting your hair and for someone who doesn't rly know your hair that well but to cut it exactly as you describe, that's a master barber. read more

As many others have posted Arthur is as good as it gets! Followed him from 52nd st. location !! Best cuts from a scissor cut to a low fade - his cuts are as good as it gets! The new location was done right!!! Gorgeous from the floors to the lighting! The attention to detail is as good as the haircuts! While getting my cut from Arthur the other barber "Emmanuel" was giving a 5 star cut as well! Wish all the people walking around ny with bad haircuts could find this place to fix them up! Being new to the area, I was looking for a barbershop and decided to give Premium a try. Since the first visit, they have provided great service at a timely manner. The barbers make you feel comfortable while being professional at the same time. From an outsiders view, they are great at all types of cuts, from scissors to clips. I've been with 4 different barbers and they all did a good job. If you're looking for a barbershop that's accessible, this is the one for you. Personally, I prefer Arthur but they all perform well. Best barbershop in NYC - location is a little hard to find, but as it's all walkins I am ok with that. Everyone waits for Arthur because of his skill (can be a wait), but people don't realize that he's trained his associates very well, so you can go to any of the other chairs with peace of mind, and be in and out quick with a solid cut. Only thing to note is you better not be squeamish to MMA fighting as its on the TVs allot. I've been going to these guys since they were in the 50's years ago...Reasonable prices, solid service, clean, friendly environment - highly recommend. read more

I'd like to say that I just noticed the other day a message from the barber shop owner Arthur. For this alone I'm going up to 3 stars because he apologized and even offered me 2 free haircuts free of charge to make it up to me. As I told him, if I could have given the barber 1 star instead of the barber shop I would have but unfortunately as an employee of his, the barber is an extension of his shop. I simply will not let any other barber or hair stylist cut my hair in NYC. I am 25 years old and have a certain way I like my hair cut and a certain budget to live within. Arthur has been my barber for the last 2.5 years and is a master at his craft. Fade comes out perfect every time and the cost is very reasonable for NYC. Susana is amazing with cutting my hair. I'm very specific in the way I want my hair cut and she makes sure to take her time and is very detail oriented with making sure my hair is cut the exact way I want it. I have cut my hair with her 4 times including yesterday. My hair came out perfectly the way that I wanted it. WOW am I happy I found this Barber Shop. Using Yelp 3-4 years ago I heard about "the god father" of hair cuts. I get a difficult cut and usually don't change barbers but after having recently moved to NYC and reading the reviews I had to give it a try. The results are in: Once you go to "The Godfather" you'll never go anywhere else. It's a legit and professional cut in a chill barber shop. I've since moved out of the city but still go out of my way to come here twice a month for a fresh cut. It's that good. read more

Great haircut. Spent a ton of time with me. The wait was short and they really crank people out. Was not expensive for the quality at all - got a great fade, cleaned up on top, and lined up my beard. Although my backpack was mistakenly taken by another customer, the whole shop was determined to get it back for me. They checked cameras, got in touch with the man, and got it back for me. Excellent!! Worth every penny and the trip from Yonkers via Metro North. The lovely young lady who is stationed by the cash register took care of me and made sure she knew what kind if haircut I wanted. She gave me a phenomenal shave! I've been living in the neighborhood for 2 years and love Premium. Great value haircut and very quick to get you in and out. If you go, try to get Ricky, the barber who cuts in first chair when you walk in the shop. He's been cutting my hair since my first visit - nothing but compliments for this dude. Super nice guy who can give you a bad ass hair cut in under 20 minutes. Note: his off day is Tuesday, so make sure you catch him some other time of the week! read more

Cut my hair too short despite telling them twice that I didn't want it short and that I was growing…read moremy hair. That said, they argue with the client instead of acknowledging the problem or at least leaving it. There was some odor in the place when I entered which wasn't pleasant. For the price, the service and atmosphere didn't seem so professional. I don't recommend.

Specifically, Pablo Laguna who is, for lack of a better word, a true artist. I've had beard trims where I live in DC as well as in London when I visit there and not only is Pablo the least expensive, he's also the absolute best! I've even scheduled trips up to NYC around Pablo's availability to take a whack at my raggedy whiskers. It's truly like a makeover when Pablo is done! A true artisan with facial hair!

*Only review for a straight razor shave…read more I wanted to check out a "talked about" New York Barbershop. I found this spot with great reviews. Once I walked in, the owner was immediately chatting it up with me, as if we're best buds from back in the day. He walked me over to a "barber" who had just come in and was getting himself set up. After hearing the owner speak to the other barber, who already had a client, I knew I was with a different barber than the one I had initially chosen online. Once we started with the service, I already knew I was in for a short and rough shave. The hot towels were great, but that's the only positive. The lather was minimal, the shave was with short, choppy, and dry. I was hoping it would be over quick, but then he pulled out the electric trimmers.... And started cleaning up the lowest part of my neck.... And slicing my neck.... And irritating my neck.... I have never felt stinging like that EVER for a straight razor shave. Unfortunately, the next few days, I had "hesitation marks" on my neck as if I had tried taking my own life without following through. FML! Maybe the other barbers are better, but I'll never find out.
