I also stopped by the shop and asked to talk to him (he was not there). He has offered to fire the person and/or compensate me with $60 + a free haircut if I change the review (photos attached). Giving me a bald spot for fun is way too unprofessional for me to consider changing the review. I have offered to point out the guy to Arthur, but I am not asking for the guy to be fired. One of these guys gave me a bald spot because he thought it was funny. He thought I didn't notice and gave me a fist bump with a slight smirk on his face after the haircut. After the haircut my girlfriend told me I was balding, and I instantly realized what happened. The hair grew back to normal in a few weeks. At least one of the guys working here is an unprofessional jerk, so l'd recommend going somewhere else.

But most of those glowing reviews are pre-covid. I don't know if a lot of their stylists left but there's a notable lack of reviews post-covid. They're kind and the space feels lux and quiet. Problem is communication, went multiple times feeling very whelmed and changed stylist every time. After my third time I think I'm done, I've shown pictures and discussed with them what I wanted but they can never seem to get it right. Instead they default to a generic taper short off the sides and medium top cut, but then why tell me you can do the cut or even have experience with it? Is it my head shape? Face? Am I too ugly? Communicate that to me before you decide to just ignore the conversation we had and just free style. It's frustrating because I am growing out my hair for this cut and they do what they want. I don't want to be rude and stop you mid cut but then why am I paying so much just to be left unsatisfied? Most of the men leaving the place have the same exact cut. Anything longer than a short to medium cut is a no go, those cuts look clean and nice. Kept going in with shoulder length wavy hair just to get butchered every time.

One jackass who charges $100 for a haircut talked about how a real barber (such as himself of course) only does 4 haircuts an hour. Really 4 haircuts an hour? That's 15 minutes each, which after getting in and out of the chair and prepping and combing equals about 10 minutes. You might as well go to supercuts to get that sort of crap haircut. Which brings me to Jerry's! If you are in the city and want to spend 1/3 of what some hipster doofus barber will charge you then check out Jerry's! I used to go to Jerry's consistently when I first started working in midtown but started going to a place in jersey near where I lived at the time, though I still pop over once in a while. If you are in midtown and want a good haircut, this is the place (great if you work in midtown and the boss is giving you crap about your shaggy hair). Mostly older barbers who can do a variety of styles (though I doubt they do shaggy hipster/bieber cuts).They give a very thorough, careful haircut. Usually lasts at least 25 minutes, since they actually take their time and go over it more than once to make sure it is perfect. It is pricey around $30ish I believe, but hey, its in midtown. And of course they use a straight razor, and less importantly but still really cool, they have an ancient hand cranked hot towel machine! P.S. Its very difficult to find (buried in the basement) so ask for directions at one of the rock center info desks located at each entrance.

The five star reviews for this outstanding establishment continuenestled in historic Midtown NYC this barber shop combines old school sensibilities with a subtle touch of class. My stylist took care in every aspect of my cut, pure precision, but I've never been to a place where the technique was shared with me, the thought process explained. He is more artist than barber. This barbershop is decently sized but can get a little crowded. It's looked over with the decent wait time. It only took me about 5 minutes and then I was able to get my haircut. Got the haircut I wanted without any problems and it's because the team truly cares for you. Also, what's not to love with this price? I've been to barbershops in places like WTC and I've seen men's haircuts go for $30+ so this is very good and I'm happy I found this place and tried it out! You can't go wrong with this place! I think the best thing about this place is the attentiveness of the staff. A lot of barbers and hairdressers don't really care and just cut your hair so they can take the next guest and get more money. The team here are really good at getting you your desired look. However, it's not just them that has to do work. You do too! You also have to speak up for what you want! Don't think they'll know everything so tell them and for sure they'll make it! I am very picky when it comes to my hair. It's really hard to find a GOOD haircut in midtown. Fifth ave barber shop is the exception. Consistently great haircuts, relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff. Overall just a great experience. few guys cut my hair. They are super cool, very personable, and "real." None of that phony pretending to be overly interested in everything I talk about...just normal relaxed good conversation....also no loud music or gimmicky crap. Just a solid man's barber shop. If you are sick of sitting in a supercuts anxiously waiting for your haircut and praying to god that you get a good stylist then this place is for you. I have been going to fifth ave barber shop for about 4 month. I used to go to this shop in the Bronx. Now that I live in Midtown Manhattan I thank god they opened up this barbershop in Midtown. The place is a little more expensive than the typical men's haircut, but it is well worth it (especially if you give a crap about what you look like). read more

This barbershop is definitely the best I've been to due to its consistently. I come in once a month and their haircuts are always spot on. Steve usually cuts my hairs and he already knows what I usually get as soon as I walk in. The wait time is also usually minimal, if there is any wait time. Everything is swift and on point. The price is also fair (if not cheap) for the quality of the work. Overall, I would definitely recommend this barbershop. read more

Both my husband and son get haircuts here and the barbers never disappoint. The barbershop has a friendly staff who always do great work without error. The wait is also not too long, but well worth it. It's hard to find a barber who can achieve exactly what you are looking for, but these guys know their profession. read more

Once I walked in, the owner was immediately chatting it up with me, as if we're best buds from back in the day. He walked me over to a "barber" who had just come in and was getting himself set up. After hearing the owner speak to the other barber, who already had a client, I knew I was with a different barber than the one I had initially chosen online. Once we started with the service, I already knew I was in for a short and rough shave. The hot towels were great, but that's the only positive. The lather was minimal, the shave was with short, choppy, and dry. I was hoping it would be over quick, but then he pulled out the electric trimmers.... And started cleaning up the lowest part of my neck.... And slicing my neck.... And irritating my neck.... I have never felt stinging like that EVER for a straight razor shave. Unfortunately, the next few days, I had "hesitation marks" on my neck as if I had tried taking my own life without following through. FML! Maybe the other barbers are better, but I'll never find out.

Specifically, Pablo Laguna who is, for lack of a better word, a true artist. I've even scheduled trips up to NYC around Pablo's availability to take a whack at my raggedy whiskers. It's truly like a makeover when Pablo is done! A true artisan with facial hair!
