These guys are efficient and thorough. I have an older vehicle, 1977 Toyota FJ40, that requires a special testing machine. Calling around, not many people have it, nor can test older cars. I found this place and came for my last test and there was 1 woman, by herself, and she took care of all cars by herself. This time around Gilbert took care of me. He even took extra time because it was failing the EVAP side of things. Once he realized the 2 tanks, it changed everything. He took the time to take it back in and pass it! I came here to get my smog checked. vehicle, It was fast and easy, the employee left my vehicle in drive turned my vehicle, off, and then proceeded to tell me that he could not get my keys out of the ignition and he didn't know why. then I tried to start my vehicle it would not turn on. I asked if he would jump my car and he said they did not have jumper cables! I will not be coming back to this location. The men at Carquest were nice enough to give me a jump. read more

Consistently received great service, I have never experienced a lengthy wait time (usually less than 15 minutes to get in for test). This may vary on the time you go, but I have always had good success on weekends and weekdays. I have multiple cars that I take to this location because of the efficiency and cost. I recommend you give them a call for your smog testing needs. Also, had an issue with my car and the rep told me to get about 100 miles on it and come back to test (free of course) and it passed. I was stoked. They also offer DMV registration services if you are cutting it close to due date and need tags for your plates. If you need to, you can always grab a slice of pizza across the street or head into Michael's if you need some crafts for the kids. read more

My car failed the fuel evap test and I was told it would need repairs. I spent $100 for a mechanic to run all testing on it including a smoke test and they could find nothing wrong. I took it back I to DEKRA for the retest and it passed. This seems to be user error by the technicians. It cost me time away from work and $100 for the mechanic to tell me nothing was wrong with the car. I am very disappointed and dekra should give me a $100 refund for this back on my credit card. read more

I have been fortunate to be going to this establishment for about 6 years? I found them because I had trouble with my truck. Nobody wanted to smog it because I have a K&N air filter system from the dealership they handled it no problem I've been going back every two years since then, every person that I come in contact there has been amazing great rate friendly personnel and they know there's stuff you can also get your tags and not have to deal DMV. I had visited Dekra for my truck smog check and had a great experience. It was quick and passed the smog test. I had my older vehicle to get smog certified so I decided to got to Dekra again. I called the day before and made an appointment. I asked if an older car would be a challenge - the person said no. He could get the job done. I brought my Jeep in and they got me in and out in 45 minutes. I am very happy with the service they provided. The waiting room was clean and the water was nice as you passed the time. My car needed a smog inspection to register this year. I've been taking my cars here for a few years as it's an efficient place that is reasonably priced. I can usually be in and out within 20-30 minutes depending on how busy they are, even on the weekends. I overheard Gil telling another car owner that older cars take longer for the test, so count on that (pre-2000). Got my certificate and did not do my registration here, although you can for a small fee, because I have another matter at the DMV and will do it all at the same time. This is my smog place, and every 2 years when I visit, the staff is always awesome. They are quick and efficient. If your car happens to fail a smog test, you can come back within 60 Days of the initial test and they will retest for FREE! Plus, you can still get your tags here instead of hitting up the DMV. Love coming here because you are literally in and out and the staff is great and thorough. I am sooo glad my car passed this 2nd time after some maintenance, and I was able to get my tags. Don't let Dekra handle your registration if you are in the military! We are a military family on temporary orders to CA. Our out of state registration was expiring so I went to Dekra to register our truck in hopes to avoid the DMV. I deeply regret that decision. Gilbert charged us $787 to register our truck and only provided us with 4 months of valid registration along with Dekra's own $61 transfer fee. I mentioning multiple times that my husband is military and we are not CA residents (which means we are exempt from certain fees). After leaving, my husband even called Gilbert to tell him they overcharged us and to cancel the transaction since it was wrong. Gilbert did nothing to look into the situation or try and fix it. We worked with the DMV directly from that point on. We received a check from the DMV reimbursing us $591 which is the amount they overcharged us. If you are military, please save yourself the headache and go directly to the DMV. If Gilbert didn't understand how to register the vehicle of a military member, he should have said so and advise we go to the DMV. It didn't help that several weeks later, Gilbert asked that I come back in because he didn't submit my vehicles certified weight to the DMV. Good thing I still had all my paperwork. read more

I went to DEKRA on Dallas Street in La Mesa early this morning to get my 2000 Honda CRV smogged. I had a great experience! The establishment was clean, they were quick (in & out within 25 minutes), courteous, took care of all necessary paperwork and my 23 year old vehicle passed the test with flying colors! Pulled up and asked how much it was and if they could do it now and how long it would take.
