Never ever is it ok to tell your patrons upon arrival that they will have to leave at a certain time. Not a good way to start the night. The menu was a mess with items whited out. Our waitress also was pushy and we thought apologetic for her rudeness. She offered us dessert on her. But the bill showed differently. I hesitated going here...I read a bad review when they first opened and it colored my opinion. Nonetheless, I finally had dinner here a year and a half after it opened. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised! The food was wonderful and the service was better than average. I will certainly go back and I would recommend to anyone. My first experience in Delmonico was right after their grand opening a couple years ago and I was thoroughly impressed; we received great drinks, good steaks and great service. As a bartender who has been in the industry for a number of years I am rather picky but I really appreciated the effort that was put forth to make it an extremely pleasant experience for all. Over the weekend I was back in town with my girlfriend; visiting friends and we decided to re-visit Delmonico. Unfortunately, we were all really disappointed to say that this time it was a truly AWFUL experience. Simply put: - WATERED DOWN DRINKS - UNPROFESSIONAL, OBNOXIOUS & CONFRONTATIONAL STAFF (The entire story...) We went for drinks on saturday night around 10:30 and ordered martinis, a manhattan and some lemon drops. All of which tasted terrible, the lemon drop tasted like soda water, fresh squeezed lemon and a dash of citron vodka with a sugared rim. The manhattan (ordered extra dry) was beyond watered down and came with a lot of ice floating in it. Thinking that maybe they had the bar-back making drinks or they just don't care because it's happy hour, we drank them anyway and waited for happy hour to be over. Next round the girls ordered wine (smart move...) and we ordered a couple old fashioned's - they came over brimming to the top with ice and a clear liquid, I took a couple sips as did my friend and we agreed that all we could taste was soda water. I asked our server who also appeared to be the bar manager (Mariah) if there was soda water in the drinks; to which she replied "Yes, the bartender always tops them off with soda water" after some confrontational words from Mariah; I asked for the drinks to be re-made without soda water. Mariah disappeared for 2 minutes into the kitchen; and when she reappeared; she proceeded to shout from the kitchen doors, across the bar to us "Thats the way we were taught to make them; with soda water; so you just want them without soda water or what?" - I explained that I am a bartender and that soda water isn't part of the recipe for an old fashioned; she replied "OK, so what do you want in them" - I recited the entire recipe (orange slice, maraschino cherry, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tbs water, a few ice cubes, and rye whiskey) this apparently really aggravated her and so she stormed off into the kitchen. When she returned from the kitchen carrying our drinks, she was staring in our direction and laughing along with the other bartenders at an extremely high volume as to mock us and ensure that we were aware of her. (I still have no idea why the drinks were in the kitchen in the first place...) The drinks came over to us and they were still extremely watered down and lacking in rye whiskey or anything remotely resembling rye whiskey. In an attempt to avoid further conflict we sat there disappointedly and accepted the drinks for what they were, watered down versions of what we had ordered. Upon receiving the bill I noticed that she didn't comp us anything, and she proceeded to charge us full price for the martinis that were supposed to be happy hour specials; but for $60 it was worth it to just pay the bill and get out of there before getting scolded again by Mariah. Food is not so good and the menu has way to may options. The pro's say a big menu means bad food. Steak was dry and my salad had the butt of the lettuce in it. Pretty girls working there and the place looks okay but thats about all i can say good about it. Will not go back. read more

Saturday was my second time at Delmonico's and the service was equally as bad as the first time I went when they first opened. They clearly have not gotten their acts together! I had a reservation at 8:00 p.m. with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night. To start the evening, the hostess informed us that they did not have enough menus, which was surprising considering half of the tables were empty. Imagine if the restaurant was packed! Though the appetizers came out somewhat quickly (about 45 minutes after ordering), the dinners were another story. We ordered entrees at 9:00. About an hour after we ordered, a waiter came to our table to share that they did not have filet mignon left...but only had filet mignon wrapped in bacon. Wouldn't the common sense thing to do be to take the bacon off the filets so they could make a regular filet mignon without bacon. Well, that was not an option according to the waiter. At 10:30, still no food! We asked to speak with the manager. Upon the manager's arrival to the table, she apologized and said "I don't know what else to tell you." Not the best answer after waiting for food for two and a half hours. She further informed us that not all of our food was cooked and that they were "backed up" in the kitchen. We decided to cancel our order and went to another local restaurant where they had enough menus for the ENTIRE table and brought us our food within a short amount of time after we ordered. Ironically, my friend's parents went to Delmonico's for brunch the Sunday after our disaster dinner. Funny enough, they did not have pancake mix. Go figure....you serve breakfast (including pancakes), but don't have pancake mix! I am not in the restaurant business, but would suggest to the owners of Delmonico's to shut down for a period of time, hire the appropriate amount of staff needed to run a restaurant, and train the staff, so they can effectively and efficiently meet their customers' needs. Just a thought. I am shocked that the same owner has four other restaurants that are STILL in business. read more

My husband and I went to Del Monico's tonight for dinner. We both had Filet Mignon, scalloped potatoes and fresh vegetables. A house salad is included. The dinner was awesome. The prices were great and the staff was excellent. We loved the ambiance. It was a beautiful night, so the doors were open to a beautiful breeze. There is also outside dining. We will definitely be going there again. read more

This place is so hit or miss... My wife loves it I think it's ok....being a former chef. I am little tough on people and the quality....never had a outstanding meal here but always a so so meal....in my opinion there are a few other places pretty close by where can get a fantastic meal......it is worth a shot just hope you go on the right night.... read more

As far as steaks go, I had better. Appeitizers would have been good if they came out hot instead cool. The bar is limited, ran out of my favorite scotch after one drink. New York strip had alot of fat on it. The only thing that was good was the service. Would I go back again ? I don't think so ! read more

What a terrific restaurant! The steaks are wonderful and more reasonably priced than anywhere else I've eaten. 10 out of 10 times my boyfriend's and my steaks were cooked to perfection--medium rare, which is more than I can say for Ruth's Chris! Other reviewers complained that they were out of sushi and gave this restaurant low ratings because of that. Well then go to a sushi bar! When you have a menu as large as this place does it does not bode well. The menu makes the usual diner menu look small. It usually means they don't do much right and that was certainly the case here. The service was pleasant but it was obvious that the waitress did not seem to know what she was doing. She could not explain items on the menu. Management is arrogant, bordering on downright nasty. When we asked why one of the appetizers did not taste right we were told that is the way it is and you have no choice but to eat it that way. The food was ok, steak was small and greasy. When they brought me another steak it still smelled funky so needless to say dinner was no longer an option at this establishment and our party of five drove to a diner to get something to eat. I went there with my wife tonight and the place is not very good. It labels itself as a steakhouse, but my steak was weak. The porterhouse was tough and overcooked and low quality. No better than a diner, in fact Tick Tick diner in Clifton has a better steak. The drinks were horrible. I got a Manhattan which had no vermouth and was shaken until 50 percent of it was water. Won't go back. Went there with 5 girlfriends for our annual Christmas dinner get together. It was a Wed night. Their website stated there's a $5 corkage fee when we got there they said it changed to $10. They also advised that their small plate special was no longer valid (their website stated 3 small plates for one flat price). The waitress immediately advised us that they were out of flanksteak. We asked why as there was hardly anyone there. They said they just didn't have any. Two of my friends split a salmon dish...it arrived with the outside charred BLACK. They sent it back and it came back RAW...pink, slimy and RAW. They sent it back again and just decided not to chance their luck and didn't eat dinner. I ordered a petit filet steak salad. I'm a pretty small woman but I left this place still hungry. There are too many BYOs in Essex County, don't waste your time at this one. All of us agreed we'd never go back. read more

This is the 4th time I have dined at this restaurant and it will be my last. The first time it was good but it has gone down hill everytime. Now it is at a point that I feel like it is a big rip off to spend money at this establishment. The last time I went I made reservations for 8 people. We arrived at the restaurant and all the windows and doors were opened instead of having the a/c on. It was muggy and in 70s. I told them to put the a/c on but it still didnt help. Next was the service. The guy (with tatoos up and down his arm) was nice but did not know the menu at all. Everytime I asked a question about the menu, he had to run away from the table to find the answer. this happened 5 times. we had to ask for bread. He did not clear the table until the next course was ready. In other words, the dirty salad plate was left in front of you for 20 minutes and then removed when he brought out the entree. This tells me the lack of training and limited management on the premises at the time. He brought out the wrong entree for my father and we had no choice but to accept it. what else are we going to do? 7 of us eat our food while my father waits? Also the food was just tasteless. We have eaten here before and noticed that the love is just not there anymore. For example, I ordered king crab legs and they brought it out to me in aluminum foil. Aluminum foil?? this is not some crabshack place. The desserts were horrendous. This should be somewhat fine dining and presented properly. We have spoken to friends who live in the area and they all felt the same. I want to contribute to local business but to spend $400 and not be satisfied with the basics just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Not going back. read more
