Went here tonight, what a dossapointment!! We live locally so we figured we would try it for dinner. The waitress comes over to the table with a huge attitude when this is supposed to be a classy place. We order the large cesar salad for two a s a small plate comes out with 5 pieces of lettuce and 2 croutons and we ask if this is the large salad they say it is. Ok my daughter orders garlic bread and the waitress says we don't make that and I said to her it's on the menu. I then had to ask if she was new and she says no I am not. Ok so next we get our main dishes, where we order a Delmonico steak a N.Y. Strip and a Filet Mignon. The filet tasted horrible, the Delmonico was as thin as a piece of steak you put on a lunch steak sandwich, and the N.Y. Strip which we ordered Black and Blue came out med rare. We also ordered fries that were soaked in cold oil, anybody knows if you have the right temp when you cook fries they do not come out soaked in oil. The creamed spinach looked like it had been sitting there for days and finally the garlic bread came out with melted cheese and burned bread with no garlic on it. So I sent the N.Y. Strip back because it was over cooked a d what I got back was a piece of steak that was 75% fat that you couldn't cut. The managed came over and really was no help and said she had to call the owner and tell him. When your spending up to $ 30.00 a steak you want quality with the service to go with it. I am shocked this place is still in business. If I could give it zero stars I would. Cedar grove needs a good steakhouse that offers the community good service and a good product!! Please avoid this place at all costs. My bill came to $73.00 probably worth $1.00 and this was after they took off my steak and cesar salad. Highly disappointed. Looks like more emphasis on atmosphere then food and that is not saying much. The menu was a novel - so how could anything be given proper emphasis. Apparently the steak is the thing too get if you have to go. The appetizers are mediocre. I've been here twice. First time was very disappointing. It was new, menu was too large (and waitress offered no assistance sorting the menu out)to easily decide on, but hey it's a steak house, so I ordered a Steak.. Ordered Medium Rare, it arrived dried out and well done. Wife ordered a steak also MR, came with no pink. I sent mine back it was barely cutable. My wife ate hers. The replacement steak was done correctly. We received a giftt certificate, so went back early one evening. The menu is still huge but this time the waitress had time to help us sort out the menu. We ordered some appetizers they had on special, they were very full flavored. I ordered a steak again, this time was delivered perfectly. I wouldn' t mind going back , but wil keep it early so there is no rush on the menu. read more

I came here with my bf on Valentines day. What a surprise. Although it was a busy holiday,the servers were super attentive and friendly. first time dining at this spectacular little "hidden gem" and I was disappointed only that I Have not discovered it sooner !!! I did not give five stars for service, and perhaps I'm not judging fairly due to the fact that it was Valentine's Day, and one of the busiest nights. That being said, the girls did their best to pay us as much attention as they possibly could. It took a really long time to get our drink orders in, and we had to beg for some bread but again , it was packed. We were a little annoyed that the food took so long to come out And did not get to enjoy our oysters and appetizers before the main course as everything mistakenly was fired up And put in all together. The wait staff is exceptionally young, and They seem a little inexperienced, so factoring all that In , We were still pleased. The food came out all together, but when it did boy was it delicious! The fillet mignon was done to perfection, so chewy and prepared at the perfect temperature. Great selection of oysters, great selection of wines by the glass and bottle, and fairly priced! I was very impressed by the menu selection and all the variety. I was trying to ask the manager about the typical clientele that frequents this establishment as We were surrounded by very young couples, and I was a little put off when he replied that this place was not a meat market if that's what I was looking for. He quickly realized he was misunderstanding my inquiry and apologized which I thought was very classy And after that he was extremely informative about the restaurant, typical clientele, and happy hour specials . This place is rated as one of the best steaks in the area and you can tell why. Countless ways to get the steak cooked, marinated, topped. Full bar and a upscale feel without the upscale pricing. Been here quite a few times and have always felt very welcome as if they know you as soon as you walk into the door. Only thing that was a bummer was the burger option seems to only be a lunch option and not accessible during dinner service. The atmosphere is definitely my kind of vibe. It's not uncomfortably upscale, but a nice, trendy place to take a date or have dinner/drink with a few friends. It's definitely a great addition to Cedar Grove. I live a few blocks away and every night of the week there are plenty of people there. (Usually looks pretty full). Awkward and not very good at all. We arrived for our reservation and were seated in a cramped table when all of the other tables around us were empty. Order a bottle of Wine shortly after getting seated and the wine was popped and poured into the glasses before we noticed the glasses were filthy. Two of the glasses had greasy fingerprints and lip marks--- were they washed, or just reused? The waiter took the glasses filled with Wine and poured the wine in to two new glasses and re-served the Wine. They probably should have replaced the bottle too, but they didn't and we didn't push. When the bread arrived, I opened up my napkin to get to my utensils and my knife had food particles and residual fat on both sides. It was very obvious. Very gross and unhealthy too. All of the food, meaning apps, mains, sides and dessert were mediocre, at best. I will spare the details, just saying that mediocre is being a little too complimentary. Won't be back. I was truly hoping that this restaurant would get better with time. It has not. A lifetime Cedar Grove-ian was looking forward to an upscale restaurant in town. Not to be. The hostesses and staff look past you when you walk in - but eventually get to you - I am sorry, are we bothering you? Gave them many chances to improve. Brunch is poor at best - fried pancakes?, overcooked eggs, hashbrowns in the style of McDonalds? Tea selections are poor. Lipton and Tetley is not a tea for this type of restaurant. Would you serve Folgers coffee? Dinner: meals have been consistently poor - overcooked pasta and shrimp and rolls, twice. Rolls brought out burnt and well into meal. Beverages from bar are amateurish - who can't make a cosmo? Gave bartender another chance to make it right - -same result - watered down, clear, and without taste. Long Island Iced Tea fine one night - a coke the next, what's up? Pass this restaurant up and go to Calandra's in Caldwell or Porcini's in Totowa. For a great meal, consistently in Cedar Grove - go to Espisito's. This restaurant is to pricey to make these errors. Shame on you. Who is in charge? read more

My family and I went there the other week for my father's birthday. I heard a lot of mixed reviews about the restaurant but was still dying to try it. We were a group of 10 people and when we arrived our table was all ready for us. The restaurant is on the smaller side and I felt like our table took up the whole restaurant, but we didn't care. Our server, was Beth, who made the night fun and made my father the focus of the night and had him really enjoying himself and laughing (which is really hard to do because at his age he has become very critical of everything). The waitress suggested we get a bunch of appetizers to share for the table. We ended up getting a bunch of appetizer samplers, which were okay. Some were on the drier side and others had too much sauce. They really weren't anything special but we were hungry so we finished everything. After the appetizers, we were served a house salad that wasn't much, but tasty. For dinner, the majority of the table got steaks. I got the Delmonico with Garlic and Butter which was cooked perfectly !! The waitress suggested we get a bunch of appetizers to do family style which was a great idea because the portions were a good portion considering the price ($2). My sister in law got a pasta dish that was really on the dry side, but that was fixed immediately by more sauce being brought out. We tried a bunch of different sides like, Garlic Mash Potatoes, Risotto, Sweet Potato Fries, Asparagus, and more. Everything was great !! At the end of dinner, the waitresses came out with a Giant Piece of Cake with a candle and sang to my father. I was very nervous at this point because he isn't the type of guy who would like something like this, especially since I did not ask for anyone to sing to him. Thankfully it was done in good taste and he loved it. They wrote Happy Birthday on little wafer cookies which I thought was a good touch. We ended the night with a drink at the bar. We couldn't really stay too long because the bar was crowded and there was no where to sit or stand. My wife an I were terribly disappointed with our meal and the overall restaurant experience. First off the restaurant is small, loud and has a hectic vibe, very young and inexperienced wait staff. The food was average, edible but not great. We had the porterhouse for 2 which we ordered medium rare. When it was presented to our table it was overcooked and got to medium well with a grayish color in a few minutes. We decided to eat it as opposed to sending it back, we did complain and our waitress said they might take off a few of the sides. The house salad was a joke, the sides were just okay. We had the mussels and a combo coconut shrimp and scallops for appetizers, which were ok, the fried food was a little greasy. Overall, we spent $130 and would never go back, Ruth's Chris blows this place away. Our waitress was very nice, but every time she served us, she reached across our table and into our faces. My opinion stay away, go to Ruth's Chris or any other well established steak house. I also got sick later in the evening and spent quite a bit of time in the bathroom.. read more

Went to Delmonico on a Saturday night with friends after thinking about going for some time. Was a huge fan of Mignon - now closed - that was part of the Village Restaurant Group. I am under the impression that Delmonico is as well. Anyway, menu is interesting ( though a bit odd with the steakhouse/asian combinations). We ordered the Pu Pu platter which was just OK. It did take a longer time than expected, but hey, it was Saturday night. Didn't get any bread until the platter came out, though it had a couple of nice oils for dipping. The house salad came out next. Again, nothing to write home about. Then came the steaks we ordered - while we were still eating our salads. The staff paid no attention to the fact that we weren't ready for the main course; they just pushed our salad plates aside so they could dump the steaks on the table. Our server actually removed my salad ( which I was still working on ).We all ordered steak, 3 delmonicos and one NY strip. They were cooked properly but very thin. Mine should have been 16 oz. but if it was anything over 12 oz. I would be shocked. The steaks came with a modest portion of fried onions. For $27.99 at least a small side or two should be part of the meal. My wife ordered the shiitake mushroom sauce. What she got was a gelatinous ramekin with button mushrooms. When she spoke with our server about this she was told "yeah we ran out of shiitake mushrooms". The manager came over at one point, apologized and comped our bottle of wine - a very nice gesture - but I get the impression that they are constantly comping things for not getting it right the first time. Dessert was fine, again, nothing special, but nothing to complain about. Normally I would attribute this place's shortcomings to sloppiness but I my gut tells me that shortchanging their guests is how they do business. I do not think that anyone who orders a 16 oz. steak gets a 16 oz. steak. read more

We dropped off my son for a party close by and decided to go for dinner. Great place . great atmosphere. Had good drinks from the bar. Soda water and iced tea served in mason jars. Love it !! My husband had the honey pork tips and I had swordfish dumplings for an appetizer. Both good sized and tasted excellent. I had steak wrapped in bacon with gorgonzola sauce. Cooked perfectly and tasted soooooo good. My husband got a delmonico steak . Also perfectly cooked. Creamed spinach was better than Peter Lugers. The service was great. Let me be honest with you; food was not bad, but it wasn't great. This place has a nice menu. There is a lot of choices ranging from Chinese food, to great steaks and chops. I work with my father in the food industry and know how difficult it is to run a successful establishment. THIS STEAKHOUSE HAS SERIOUS POTENTIAL. This place could be booked every Friday/Saturday night. My first point of critique would have to be the presentation. The food was just thrown on to the plates sloppily and it really made me want it less. Next, the China, silverware and glassware need to be updated. In order to be taken like a serious steakhouse, these things need to become more classy and elegant. And lastly, the servers need to be dressed more professionally. Noise noise and more noise. This has to be the loudest restaurant in North Jersey. There is no question the food is good. The NY strip was terrific as were the scallops. The service not good. Our waiter was trying but must have said sorry about a dozen times. Sorry, drinks will be right out. Sorry, I forgot your appetizer. Sorry, we have a big party and we are slammed in the kitchen. In really felt badly for him. Oh, and did I mention the noise. And then there is the menu. All 30 pages of it. Just ridiculous. It is hard to tell what this restaurant wants to be when it grows up. If you've ever been to one of the Village Group restaurants you will know their food is usually good. If you ever had the opportunity to have dinner at Mignon it was AMAZING. Never disappointed. Rumor had it Mignon was closed to open DelMonico. With this, I was quick to make a reservation at DelMonico's for my husbands birthday. What a disappointment!!! We ordered to start Oysters Rockefeller and Clams Casino...in having one of each I was greeted with a mouthful of sand...not uncommon but really not something you want to delve into when having dinner at a nice restaurant. For dinner, I ordered the Cajun Filet Mignon medium rare with a side if scalloped potatoes. When the dish was brought out I couldn't believe what was in front of me. Instead a nice cut of Filet Mignon I received 2 small cuts of filet that resembled pieces of loin. To make matters worse my food was cold...my Filet Mignon was cooked medium well, the shrimps were rubbery and my scalloped potatoes were cold. The center of the potatoes were really cold. It almost seemed like the sides were pre-prepared and kept refrigerated. This wouldn't bother me if they would have made a conscious effort to have their presentation make it seem like it was just prepared. Now onto dessert...one of our friends asked the waiter if the tiramisu was traditionally made with lady fingers or was it cake. He didn't know. Lol!!! I mean our waiter was pretty good for the most part but you should really know what the restaurant where you work has to offer. Dessert was okay. Nothing really decadent or worth talking about. Only reason for two stars is because yelp filters a lot of one star reviews. So this is a one star review. Ok to begin as we're walking in we were walking in and said to an employee we have a reservation and would like to sit Inside, he replied "Oh your THE reservation". I was not the only one who heard the emphasis on the word "the", hinting that we were somewhat a burden because our reservation was at 9. So dinner begins and our server comes over quickly to get a drink order and spills water all over the place with his shaky hands. Some of which hit me. Now mind you at this point I hadn't gotten upset so I'm going with the flow. Skip to apps and the waiter is clueless on the menu, I ordered the raw bar for two and he says "Are there crab legs on there"? I said back "I don't know you tell me" . So he doesn't know the menu right off the bat. Apps come and we ask for plates and he slams them on the table and walks away. Apps weren't good, small portions of calamari. The ice used for the shellfish platter had melted so fast it was leaking on our pants. We had to ask it be removed. So when we ordered our dinners, again the waiter was clueless as how many veal chops / lamb chops he had. So my guest orders and the waiter comes back and said oh I found out we had one small lamb left and not the veal. So my guest changed his order. The waiter was slow in bringing drinks, he left a bottle of white wine on the table , not in an ice bucket. Dinner arrives and the waiter spills the hot pepper oil on my jeans. So those are ruined. And I cut I to my filet and it's overcooked. Now I'm mad. I went looking for a manager , couldn't find one so I waited at the table about 5 minutes and the waiter says, "the manager is going to buy you a drink. I asked to speak with her at that point and she kind of stepped in from that point to make our night a little better. We even noticed Jake was having a bad night and tried to make small talk at the beginning so soothe It out so he wouldn't take it out on us. We get it , you wanna go home early, it's Friday, your 20. So go work somewhere in the daytime, not in a restaurant that closes at 11. We will never go back. This young staff doesn't care. And at one point in the beginning of the night Adam came over (confused) and said he would be our server. We said hey what's going on and he replied "good i should be outta here In an hour and I'll go home" wait...you greet your table saying your leaving In an hour? So I guess well rush our dinner for you...guys TIP MEANS "To Insure Proper service" .... Remember that. read more

I've been here four times - twice with my wife and twice with my friends for our annual Christmas get-together. The food is excellent. The staff is friendly. The wait staff isn't quite as knowledgeable about the menu as I'd like, but they mitigate that by being very friendly. The tables are a bit small, but no smaller than an average Manhattan restaurant. Try the clam trio - it's excellent. Their pasta dishes are very good as well. Try the General Tso's chicken - it's a favorite at Taos in East Rutherford, which is owned by the same person - Bobby Wong. They have a bar and a good wine list, but they allow BYO as well, for a $10 corkage fee - well worth it and a real cost saver. One caveat - look at the menu online before you go - it's HUGE. Literally a book. So get an idea of what you want before you go. read more

I was disappointed in my experience here. Went in on a Sunday night, wasn't very crowded at all. I ordered the large (16 oz) strip but the waitress came back from the kitchen and said they didn't have any of them, so I had to order the small (12 oz). I would expect them to have all of the cuts available being a chophouse. On top of that I ordered my meat medium rare and it came out closer to medium/medium well. As I said it wasn't overly busy, I'd be interested to see how the restaurant is when it is busy. Safe to say I've had better meals. read more

Has become a regular place. The staff is super friendly & do everything to make your dining experience wonderful. Wife & I always come for oysters on the shell. $14 for a dozen every day (even cheaper one day a week!) cannot be matched anywhere in this area so if you love raw oysters, you need to come here. Recently I started eating their Tuna Ceviche & wow it's great. I keep coming back for more. The steaks are cooked really well. There's so much to choose from. We luv it here! read more

The food was bad, the management was rude, they seem to have a tendency for calling the police on people who complain I watched a man and his family have the cops called on him after he complained about a steak, after the manager told the patron "the meal is free, just do not ever come back here" the man left and the cops showed up just in time to pay the bill from what i could see from what my officer friend said this is not the first time that has happened. frankly this place will just be another failed experiment in the West Essex area. I ordered some of the Asian style food, General Tso to be specific, it was about as good as it would be from any given Chinese place....but cost twice as much. i ate here 2 nights ago. being a verona resident, i was very happy to hear of a new steakhouse in the area. soon after walking in, my happiness changed to disapointment. first, lets start with the atmosphere. the dining room is very dark, making it very hard to see the color of your meat, more on that later. the place was trendy in decoration and had a spacious but empty bar area. the four flat screen tv's are perfect for watching a game, but the bar lacked any type of life. once i sat down, i was given a spiral notebook that contained the menu. the choices were overwelming. the food ranges from chinese to italian to traditional steakhouse. after handing us our menu's, the first thing we were told was the 3 things, one of them being a steak, that they were out of. way to start off on a positive. after struggling with the menu, we decided to order a few apps. the first app was a shrimp trio, which was a sample of shrimp prepared 3 ways. the only problem, i was with a group of 4 and they only gave us 3 pieces of shrimp for each sample. i don't really understand how you can call something a sample if there isn't enough for the entire party to try. the shrimp was overcooked and had a very fishy taste. i have a feeling we were being fed frozen shrimp. we also ordered a chicken appetizer. it was basically 4 chunks of chicken on a stick. the only thing we tasted was burnt wood. the third appetizer was the stuffed mushrooms, they were decent, but i've had better at worse places. we next ordered our dinners. we were told by the waitress that each dinner comes with a free house salad. the salad, was compiled of wilted greens, 1 small slice of tomatoe and was drowned in red wine vinegar. before we could finish our sorry salads, the server was standing before us with our entree's. he quickly took our salad plates along with our forks. i had to ask twice for another fork before one was provided for me. i ordered the porterhouse, medium. i was horrified by what was put on my plate. i was expecting a nice thick piece of meat, seasoned and cooked perfectly. what i was given resembled a steak'um. the meat, which was probably thawed an hour before being cooked was rare. with the place being so dark, i could not see how rare it was until i heald my phone up to the steak for some light. there was no flavor to this piece of meat and it was the chewiest steak i've ever had. two other members of my party had the small filet. the key word here is small. although disapointed by the size, they said the filet was coooked well and was tasty. the final member of my party had sesame chicken. i had a taste and was not impressed. i've had better delivered to my house. once dinner was over, our dessert order was taken. the waitress left without asking if anyone would like coffee. i had to flag her down later to order a cafe. i can assure you that this will be my last visit. there are several better steak places in the area. read more

While I believe this place was once a really great restaurant, it's surely gone down hill. My husband and I were there about a week ago for a nice, local dinner out without the kids. We arrived and the ambiance was the first thing, naturally, that I noticed. It was dark but stylish, inviting but fairly empty at 6:30 on a Saturday night. We sat down and the server brought over some delicious rolls accompanied by two infused oils for dipping, one pepper and the other garlic. Such a nice touch! We decided to order an appetizer to share, the poo poo platter, filet wrapped in bacon for my entree, and the lamb chops for my husband's entree. The appetizer was average but tasty. I believe we finished it, though it wasn't amazing. Next, I received my entree. The filet tasted like it had been frozen and coming from someone who does a lot off cooking, I'm positive it was. It was well flavored and seasoned, but dry as can be. I ordered it medium rare and though the chef tried his best to keep it red in the center, it was still so dry and bloodless due to the previously frozen aspect. It was accompanied by a side of potatoes au gratin, that was tasty but cold in the center. My husband loved his lamb chops! Many people I know who go there, go for the lamb chops as they seemed to have nailed this entree. We then order three desserts to take home and share with my mother and sister. The cheesecake was tasty and moist, the toasted almond tirimisu was also tasty. However, we also ordered creme brûlée and it tasted sour. Ehh!! Gross. We won't be going back. read more
