The yelp reviews don't lie, this really is the best Del Taco I've ever been to. The service is fast and friendly. The dining area is clean and the bathrooms are well stocked for all the passing through traffic. The food was great. My Barstow taco was exploding with meat, cheese and all the toppings! One improvement would be Free WiFi! (Or even pay at the register for it.) It would be great to download playlists and podcasts while we eat, so we are ready to get back on the road! read more

This del taco has the best carnitas burritos, but today I witnessed both a female employee use the restroom with her apron on and a male employee walk out of the restroom with his apron on. From my education in food handling and safety, that is a HUGE violation as aprons don't go into restrooms and then prepare food that touches those aprons. I had to give them the stars for the quality of their food but the cleanliness is disgusting. I made the manager aware of what I saw but she didn't seem to care, as I had witnessed the same thing two years ago but decided to give them a second chance today and nothing has seemed to changed. We have been going to this place for 7 yrs or more. The food has always been wonderful and the portions were bigger then corporate. Sadly, I went a day ago and when I got home was terribly disappointed. Our burritos on in the Fiesta pack were smaller then the corporate ones with barely any cheese. There was no sauce and the beans tasted watery. Our taco meat tasted strange, not the normal. Also the bun taco we got for my mother had what seemed to be mayo on the top bun. I called today and a person who said they were the manager said they would talk to that crew and was sorry about the messup. I was a bit surprised she didn't offer to make it right considering we had just paid over 40 dollars for the Pack, 1 chicken burrito meal and the side bun taco. Not sure if we will be back. With 4.5 stars, I dunno...I expected the Del Taco nightclub, or at least, a quaint, cute, and little cafe...but that's not what I found. What I instead found: A macho-sized version of a Del Taco. Double sized, with a large bathroom, and multiple seating areas. Not that big of a deal, really. I wanted to review this Del Taco-- this is one of the original Del Taco locations, and its just DIFFERENT than a normal del taco. First off, their portions are GENEROUS-- i mean really generous. This location is at a stopping point to/from Las Vegas, so it gets packed--- and I love how efficient this place is, they know how to handle the lines. Yeah, I'm a Del Taco fanatic. I probably go at least once a week and I regularly do taste testings at their Lake Forest HQ. That being said, the difference at this Barstow DT is huge. Easily blows away any other Del Taco I've been to. There are three DT's in Barstow, but this one is the biggest and best one. The "Barstow" taco is the #1 selling item there, but they also have other items exclusive to the location -- like the carnitas burrito and giant-looking tostada. The prices are higher, but it's well worth the extra cost. Attention to detail is what sets this DT apart from the other drab franchise-owned locations. The original founder of Del Taco Mr. Ed Hackbarth commutes from his home in Dana Point to Barstow just to oversee his restaurants. Now that's dedication. read more

This is the Holy Grail of Del Tacos. We stop by here every single time we come to Vegas, even if we have already eaten somewhere else along the way. It's not even discussed anymore. We just do it. It's in Barstow/Lenwood, the original birthplace of Del Taco, and owned by the founders. You can tell by the quality. The burritos and tacos are larger and have more filling than with any other taco (they actually put tomato slices in the tacos!), and they have menu items you can't find anywhere else, like tostadas and quesadillas. This Del Taco is really weird. REALLY weird. They don't have value bean burritos. They only do BIG. They don't have classic tacos, they only have "Barstow Tacos," which are big tacos with a slice of tomato on top. Not diced tomatoes. SLICED. Weird. The prices are higher than the regular one, and the food is not as good. My kids ordered their burritos without cheese, but they came with giant chunks of cheese drooping from the burrito. It's our crazy tradition..... Barstow Del Taco is always our first pit stop on our road trips up the 15 fwy to Zion and beyond. Our night was made when we unexpectedly were greeted by the FOUNDER of Del Taco -Ed Hackbarth. What a gentleman! He held the door open for my family and greeted us as he was leaving. This place is always clean, the staff is friendly and their "Barstow taco" is a must! Dear Ed- I wish I could have told you this in person...... I have many many many beautiful childhood memories with Del Taco. My late father worked the swing shift when I was a child and I hardly ever saw him during the week. Several times each month he would bring home a burritos from Del Taco and wake me up at 2am in the morning to eat dinner with him. I think of my father every time I see a Del Taco sign. There is no "Value Menu" with 79 cent items so if you're looking to fill your gut for three bucks hit the McDump down the street. If however you're looking for something good then this is your place. These people are not afraid to put stuff in a tortilla! And not the crappy fillers like lettuce.. loads of meat and cheese, the good stuff! The burritos are overstuffed and the tacos overflowing. Definitely not your typical Del Taco. Trust me when I say that you have to stop here in Barstow when you either head to or leave Vegas. The food here is a little pricier, but they give you so much more and the quality of food seems to be better. The crazy thing is that it looks like your normal Del Taco. I wish they had this type of Del Taco down the street from me. So what make this place different? They make the tacos exactly like a legit Mexican restaurant. They don't put a little meat, but they actually fill up the whole taco shell with meat and top it off with a little lettuce, a handful of cheese and add a sliced tomato. The burritos here are also much larger and you have the option of getting all meat and cheese so they don't put all those fillers in like beans and rice to fill it up. This place is really legit. They even had a tostada which looked amazing, but I'll just have to get that next time. You should check it out and give it a try yourself! Because not only does Ed Hackbarth (the founder of Del Taco) own it, he actually WORKS HERE! This place is his baby and he's only gonna give you love and quality. He is an awesome guy who loves to mingle and take pictures with everyone. You can probably catch him here on a weekday. The menu is the same as any other Del Taco chain, but it just tastes better. They have a signature taco you can't find at any other Del Taco. It's a little bigger than your average sized taco with a lot more meat, cheese and a slice of tomato on top! The quesadillas have a much more restaurant quality as well. The place is set up like a mini restaurant and they bring the food to your table. Fast and friendly service is always good. This is one of my MANDATORY stops on the way to Vegas from LA. And if you are ever traveling along the 15 freeway, you better exit of Lenwood and make it one of your stops too. Stopped here on our way from Vegas for a late night snack and OMG, AMAZING!!! My bf and I admit we only eat deal taco drunk because the quality isn't the best, so when we got our food we were in utter shock. As Del Taco junkies, my husband and I feel confident in our evaluation of this restaurant. I mean, really, we eat at Del Tacos all over ALL THE TIME. This is the best Del Taco I've been to (don't tell my two regular Del Tacos I said that!!!). Seriously, though, it's pretty awesome. This is the 2nd Del Taco (actually the third if you count the one that was the ORIGINAL Del Taco in Yermo that is now a Burger Den) and they have remodeled and it's HUGE in there. So we noticed that at least some of the prices were a LITTLE higher... for example, the 99cent burritos are $1.39. BUT, that said, they also bring your food to your table and the food is HUGE. My husband had two red burritos (the aforementioned) and I had the Del Classic Chicken Burrito and I thought I died and went to Chipotle! They made it so huge I could barely keep it together! And, it was good! I didn't have any, but I saw that they also have ice cream! This is different. They have some great photos of original Del Tacos and the dining room is really big, which it needs to be because it was also PACKED! The bathroom is also large and was clean when I was there. This is by far the best Del Taco I've ever been to. There aren't very many eats to choose from on that long trek from LA to Vegas but this is a good choice. There is plenty of seating, the tables are generally clean, and the lines are not long. The food is amazing! I bring all my friends down here and they realize why once they get there. They have a special BARTOW menu just for their location. They serve Barstow tacos, Barstow chicken soft tacos, and Barstow buns. Each taco is pulled up with meat and lettuce, cheese, and even a slice of tomato. It's double the size of your normal tacos. My fav items are the Barstow chicken soft taco and Barstow taco. It's also a plus that that leave a basket of hot sauce right at the table to help yourself too. I order one of each and I'm super full! What is also interesting is that they have a special ice cream dispenser/bar in their kitchen!!! It looks like an ice cream parlor in a fast food restaurant!! Lol... They have a wide variety of ice tea selection that I would recommend checking out. My fav is the peach ice tea. It's not too sweet and it has a nice flavor of a light peach taste. This location is always busy but they still serve you fast. The parking lot always have a lot of parking and ppl go in and out pretty fast. Another iconic California food joint. The first one built in the area was in 1961: Ed Hackbarth opens the first Casa Del Taco store in Yermo, California. This particular location has old timey photos on the wall, celebrating a California roadster past. (with some pretty scary crash photos, too). This place serves food that is nothing at all like the franchise stores. The first thing I noticed is that they place baskets of the little packets of hot sauces on EACH table or booth. Wow! Many fast food places keep condiments behind the counter anymore, to increase the profit margin. The servers will BRING OUT YOUR FOOD ORDER to your table. Which means you can be seated and not crowd around the counter. Try a Barstow burrito - pork (carnitas) is tender, juicy, genrously portioned, there is no skimping on the cheese or beans and green sauce. Perfect sized snack as we had been on the road about 2 hours after Los Angeles and two hours more to go before Las Vegas. The Barstow Taco and tacos had generous helpings of meat and veggies - at least 4 times more than the stingy servings at the fast food joints. You honestly don't need more than one to be satisfied. Busy location, it's a pit stop for many road trippers, and the restrooms are clean, well stocked. And finally: every employee here was very cheerful, helpful and friendly. There are three Del Tacos in the oh-so tiny Barstow area because this is the birthplace of the chain. I happen to go to the Del Taco on Lenwood Rd. just off the 15 freeway. Their "Barstow Taco", which is their basic ground beef, lettuce and shredded cheese taco is absolutely, positively taco-tastic! Normally, I am of the opinion that fast food is indeed chemically flavored fecal matter but not here, not in this coveted orb of Flavortown. I am by no means saying Del Taco is a cut above any other fast food chain. They are indeed just as horrible as the rest. Just not in Barstow. Their quality, quantity and presentation standards are way higher than anywhere else. It is the taco as it was intended to be before it got whored out, franchised and forgotten. I understand the original owner still comes by to make sure she isn't put out on the street. Two of these bad boys and I am good! There is ample shredded cheddar, it is stuffed with rich, spicy ground beef. They sprinkle a little iceberg lettuce for texture, the cherry on the top is the slice of tomato.
