Closest Del Taco to me being in the Bay Area, so occasionally I'll make the drive out to the Salida location to get my Del Taco fix! Never really had issues and I'm not expecting 5 star service. It is Del Taco - their menu is way too expansive and they basically serve everything all day. Faster to order through the Drive Thru than using the Del Taco app for pick up. The outside of this locations looks like it is closed, but it should be opened. The doors closest to the drive through window do not open and you have to walk all the way around to the other set of doors. They are one of very few locations that still play place type of thing. It is always dead when I stop by, but they make my food quick in the drive thru and I'm on my merry way. My go tos: Del Taco (crispy) - no tomatoes, light on the cheese Crispy Fish Tacos Crinkle Cut Fries Thusday Taco Night (3 tacos for the price one 1) Breakfast Toasted Wrap Anything of the items with carne asada isn't bad either *You can always tell them if you want less, more, or none of their toppings and they are pretty good about it. I love that they use shredded cheese and lettuce, so that it's easier to eat. I love Dell taco, but this location has gone completely downhill. They're understaffed and don't do the basics, like ask if you want sauces the presentation of the food is so thrown together. I recently had eaten there in a rush. That evening, I was up at 1am with it coming out both ends. if the service is as bad as it is, im sure now there's cleanliness and sanitary issues. When I told my girlfriend about what happened, she mentioned the same thing happened to her 4 weeks ago after she ate there. I really wish management would get it together and turn this place around. I have had some really good fish tacos here. Also some really good and inexpensive breakfast items. But I have to say, the shredded beef burrito- for me- in my opinion, sucks so very bad. It's like a mushy wet bean burrito with hair like strands of beef. No beef flavor that I noticed. I was so excited to try it I fell for the buy two for less option that I regretted. I have food love memories of a place in Riverbank that hasn't existed in many years. They had a miraculously good shredded beef burrito. Taco Bell, however, may be more healthy because of all the oatmeal they have in their taco meat. I tried the Veggie Fresca Bowl, hoping that it was a lot like the various burrito bowls I've had on the east coast. If you have never been to Chipotle, the Fresca Bowls will be similar to Chipotle's bowls, except that you are given option-after-option to build your Chipotle bowl and Del Taco has a certain way to make theirs. I was quite pleased with the result, especially at $4.00. Had I been at one of the places in the eastern half of the country (including Chipotle), the prices would have been $5.99 to $6.99. I asked about adding taco meat to the veggie bowl, which was a possibility at extra cost. The service at this location was good, although there is a healthy dip and scrape getting into the group of restaurants along Salida Blvd. Update 2014.11.10: I tried the Veggie Bowl again but with taco meat this time, for an extra $0.60 and some taco sauce. Came through the drive thru today on my lunch break for lunch. The line was slowly moving, I got to speaker to order a number 8 which is a spicy grilled chicken burrito and a grilled chicken burrito with a strawberry lemonade which is one thing I love about Del Taco. Got to the window and one guy was working the counter and the drive thru.. WOW.. It may be 11:15 in the morning but some people eat lunch at this time. I told the guy that I had a $1 off on the app for my combo meal. I asked him if he wanted to scan it and he said he was ok and did it manually. I love Del Taco but unfortunately I will never go back to this location. I went here tonight with my wife, mother and brother. The service: Around 10:30pm on a Saturday we went through the drive through. After we placed our order( 2 veggie Fresca bowls, #5 two chicken tacos w/ fries & a drink, and a chili verde chicken burrito plate). We waited behind the car that was currently at the window and the wait was over 5 mins but we figured they were busy. I pulled up to the window and only 2 customers were in the entire restaurant already eating. I waited about 10 mins at the window for my food and had 2 cars behind me. During this time no other customers walked in so it took them over 10 mins to prepare my food. I pulled into the lot to eat before I started driving again. The food: First off I did not get the plate I paid for. Instead I just got the burrito, then my brother says he didn't get his fries and there was a taquito in there instead. I walked in with my burrito and the taquito along with my receipt and the same guy that helped me at the window came up and when I asked where my sides were for the burrito plate he said "sorry we're out of rice and it'll be 20 mins if I wanted to wait" I said no and then asked where the fries were because I got this random taquito. He giggled and said oh yea that's not yours. He took the taquito and put it back on the food ready shelf to give to someone else. He then put a order of fries in a bag and handed it to me. I walked out and went back to the car. As I got in and cut into the burrito the tortilla was so tough the plastic knife would not cut through. I picked up the burrito to take a bite and the beans and chicken were cold not room temperature but COLD! I turn around and go back in. I told him I want my money back and he handed me my cash for the burrito with no apology or response. I put the burrito on the counter and said i would pay one of the 3 employees if they could cut through that tortilla and they just looked away. I then asked how old were the rice and beans and he said 1-2 hours max. I asked for a managers number and which took them another 7 mins to come up with. I walk back to the car and my mom and wife had only eaten a quarter of their Fresca bowls and said the rice and beans were chewy like they were stale and old. We left the food in the parking lot and drove home. 25 mins into the drive all 3 of us had stomach aches and both my mom and wife are now taking medications because the stomach ache is so bad. A great fast food place in Salida/Modesto for kids! To me, Del Taco and Taco Bell are pretty similar foodwise, but what makes this place a 5-star to me (and over many other fast food places in Salida/Modesto) is that they have an indoor playplace for kids. This is a much bigger and better playground than McDonalds (at least the McDonalds right next to it and the one on Dale/Palendale). So if you have little kids, I would highly recommend this Del Taco as a place to get some food and to let your kids play too. The location right next to the 99 Hwy (at the Palendale exit) is also very convenient. read more
