Hadn't been to a Delaware Subs in 24 years and found this location on Yelp, so we decided to make the drive. * Plenty of parking* Staff was friendly* Sad to hear COVID apparently shut down all the other Delaware Subs locations, and this is now the first and last remaining one* $31 for one large sandwich, one small sandwich, and chips My ham, turkey, and bacon sandwich was loaded with meat (they got my cheese wrong, but no big deal). The bread deserves its own mention -- outstanding. I ate the other half cold the next day and it still wasn't soggy. The crust had an interesting texture. So good!!! The Philly cheesesteak flavor was delicious and spot on, but for the price I wish it had more meat. Also, peppers now cost extra. My son and I went here for some sandwiches because I told him that they were great 20 years ago. This location was not. It smelled moldy and of spoiled food the moment I walked in. It also looked dirty, run down, and old, and generally made me feel leery of eating anything. I love a good dive bar or greasy spoon, but this place did not inspire confidence. We left and went to Jersey Mikes, which is essentially what Delaware Subs used to be, but much cleaner and better. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because we did not actually order food. I purchased a turkey breast sandwich for my grandson. He said it tasted bad, so I had my husband taste it. He said the meat tasted bad and would not eat it. I called the Delaware Subs and I was told the person who answered the phone had the turkey that morning and it was fine. She didn't offer another sandwich or for me to return it, nothing. I am disappointed in her lack of concern or care and the fact that the sandwich was not good. read more

I always have a hard time deciding between the Italian and the Philly Cheesesteak. This place is an Austin original and there's still not another sandwich shop in Austin that compares. The sandwiches are delicious and the deal from 5-7 (Buy One Get One if you buy a whole combo) is a family favorite. They are very friendly at the counter.  They are also very efficient.  Be prepared to be asked about the peppers (sweet or hot) as an addition.  Sandwiches come in two sizes. Regular and large. The large is HUGE! The bread is delicious! The sandwiches are generously filled with meat and vegetables. I actually took some out and made a second sandwich! Ice is served in a small cooler on a counter rather than thru a soda machine.  This restaurant offers canned or bottled drinks, plus iced tea. There's no soda machine. They prepare the sandwiches in a kitchen; you can see them thru a long window. Your number is called when the order is ready. When I picked up mine, they thanked me. That was really nice. Delicious sub! We popped in for a quick lunch and we decided to split a sandwich, which turned out to be the right decision, we had more than enough...the portions are HUGE! Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I knocked off a star because of the chosen "news" station that was playing in the restaurant. Other than that, great experience. Had a chance to return to the old neighborhood Delaware during a recent trip. The place has been nicely cleaned and renovated. It's still got a dive strip shopping feel, but with new tables and chairs, a coat of paint, an upgraded tv. Staff was pleasant and efficient. Italian sub was a little too thrown together, but it was fresh and the flavors were spot on. Glad to see a favorite sandwich shop get a bit of new life. I rediscovered this place recently. I frequented it over 40 years ago and then started going back in 2024. I am not a sandwich person but I love the Delaware Classic Sub Sandwich here. The ham is lean, the bread is great and I like the oil & oregano instead of mayo and mustard like regular sandwiches have. They also use care in preparing them so that they are easy to eat. How to lose a customer. When DS had a location on S Lamar, I ate there often. I lived and worked nearby and loved their Italian Goumet sub. A great sandwich. Put Subway and Thundercloud to shame. Today I stopped in the Mesa location (I'm now regularly nearby), and ordered a sub and chips. Just after I paid I noticed a BOGO sandwich special (if you purchase two chips and two drinks). Amazing. I asked the guy if I could get in on it by buying the additional chips and drinks. Him: No. Me: Why not? Him: They have to be ordered on the same ticket. Me: Why? Him: That's just how it is. I had to take my dog to an emergency vet appointment on the same road which had an hours long wait... Was gonna hit a burger place, but stopped in here instead. I had to use the restroom, but I also wanted a sub! Well, after much discussing with the fantastic cashier -- questions about everything (seriously, she was so patient & no other customers were there) I settled on the Delaware Dog. Unfortunately, the restroom was a wreck. I was afraid to sit on the throne because it appeared dirty (toilet seat is an easy replacement and I totally recommend that) and I didn't know where I could put my purse out of harm's way (hook on the back door would be cool). The single unisex restroom needs some help. Because of the restroom's state, that fear rolled over onto the food I just ordered. How clean was that kitchen? I hadn't eaten in 18 hours and the aforementioned fear swelled with every bite of that sub. After eating half, I threw the rest away not because I was full but because I was stuck somewhere between my mother's pious side and my father's outlaw side. I couldn't do good or bad if I was sick. It's funny how a moldy restroom can cause deep introspection. It should be noted, I didn't get food poisoning. read more

There is one thing and only one thing I like about Delaware Subs...the cold cheese sandwich. I find it really freaking good, but it falls apart all over the place. I get everything on it. Their bottled soda is excellent too. But... The workers always seem like they have no idea what they're doing. They almost gave my girlfriend an allergic reaction when, on her request, they failed to remove an ingredient she was allergic to. Last time I ordered my sandwich on wheat. Several minutes later I get handed the sandwich and asked "We're out of wheat, is that okay?" Thank you for asking me that AFTER you made the sandwich. Just a total pain in the neck. They're rather slow, don't expect Subway speed here. On this same trip, they insisted the Yelp coupon would only be accepted if it was printed out. You can't print a yelp coupon... They've got old articles praising the chain posted around the restaurant, but it only drives home the sad point that their heyday is past. But that cheese sandwich keeps me coming back. read more

I grew up in the neighborhood and have been coming here for probably 20 years and have always looked forward to it. The cold sandwiches and hot sandwiches are both great. The cheesesteak is amazing - the meat, mushrooms, onions and cheese all melt together. It's supposed to be greasy (as another reviewer mentioned in the pictures). They use white American cheese, which completely disintegrates and becomes a delicious sauce. Bread is great, too. I think they get it from Pennsylvania. I know they used to, at least, and it still tastes the same as far as I can remember. I recommend adding sweet peppers to the cold subs. They worked well in the cheesesteak, too. read more
