Everyone in my life knows how passionate I am about food, especially sandwiches. Friends, family, co-workers, you name it. I can't shut up about it. What chain is the best in the sammy game? What's the science between a hot sub and a cold sub? I think a local joint will always stand above the rest because their love and passion are unmatched. I could keep going. I had a co-worker who had been in my ear for a good while telling me how urgently I needed to go try Hoody's and write a little review on "my Yelp thing." I finally took her challenge last Tuesday and put Hoody's to the test. Hoody's is inside a shopping center that feels like the United Nations epicenter. There's a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant, a taqueria, a pizzeria, and a Georgian and Eastern European restaurant. So many different cuisines in one spot. But I had my eyes set on Hoody's. Inside, the narrow sandwich shop is filled with parallel wooden seats and benches on both sides with a walkway down the middle leading to the counter. The walls are covered with Notre Dame and Philadelphia sports memorabilia. Once you get to the counter, there are quite a few options of both cold and hot subs sold by the half or full hoagie. The Boar's Head logo sits proudly above the menu if you have any questions about where they're sourcing their meats from. Boar's Head is the best of the best, so I already had a good feeling. The side wall past the counter is lined with chips from Lays, Miss Vickie's, and Zapp's, and they also have some Tastykakes. On the counter are baked goods from Hoody's collaboration with Paige's Bakehouse. For my order, I got a half Italian the way it came, a bag of Voodoo chips, a Fruity Pebbles rice krispy treat, and some unsweetened tea. Zapp's Voodoos are the best chips around, and the rice krispy treat was amazing and tasted very fresh. It had to have been baked that morning or recently because it tasted so fresh. As for the hoagie, oh my goodness gracious. The meat from the ham, capicola, and salami play in perfect harmony and feel almost incomparable to any other sandwich joint. It puts them all to shame. The peppers add a great kick and flair to the sandwich as well. It's presented more like a Philly cheesesteak than a traditional Italian, but it's so delicious I don't care how it looks. It's purposeful, and with how good it tasted, I trust their science. Thank you, Hoody's. You made every sandwich I eat in the future feel lackluster in comparison. You saved me. The staff is super friendly and efficient, and the freshly baked bread? Y'all...it's everything. Staff is so amazing, really nice. I did ask if there was anywhere cross contamination with any ham or anything so he did mention that anything sliced probably will. So we ended up getting the Philly although I really love a good Deli samich. But I will say when they say footlong they don't mean a foot it's definitely more than a footlong lol. I'm not a super fan of phillys cause they are so heavy and I'll likely get it with out the peppers because it was a little too much vinegar for me and I would likely ask for a bit more salt but over all it was a really good experience read more

Came here again for lunch with some coworkers and enjoyed it just as much as I did the last time! Today I ordered the Cajun turkey sub and had it toasted. It was really good! The bread was super soft and the ingredients all tasted very fresh. I love the cherry peppers they put on their sandwiches here. The service was great and it didn't take too long for us to get our food. My only complaint remains the same, and that is that I think the food here is overpriced for the amount that you get. My half sandwich was $10 and it felt like I only took a few bites before it was gone. Overall though, very cute old school spot with good food! read more

Hoody's came up on a conversation about subs and someone I knew swore by this place. Welp. All I can say is the subs here are badass! The Philly cheesesteak is legendary. It's just so packed with flavor with the peppers giving it a slight kick that makes this perfect in every way. Just absolutely delicious til the very last bite. I also got the chicken cheesesteak which I think is pretty good but it just doesn't taste as good as the Philly. The interior here seems like it's got a lot of history with all kinds of photos and memorabilia which gives it so much character. Service is fast and excellent. It's a sandwich shop, go in place order and either take a seat on the bench or take the food home. I opted for the latter as it was jam packed. I ordered half Philly add pickles and half meatball. At first sight the Philly was too light on the meat and seemed to be mostly bread but the taste/flavor was great. The meatball sandwich had the right amount of balls and cheese but wasn't as flavorful. I'd definitely come back but maybe ask for extra meat on the Philly. read more

We got the daily special of the chicken cheesesteak. WOW! One of the best hot sub places I've tried in the area, and we can't wait to go back! Their subs were still hot and fresh after bringing them home (to go order). Packed with all the fixins and all the flavors, all of them really packed a punch of flavor! So being from California, I'm still trying to find the ultimate pastrami sandwich here in the Austin Texas area so far I haven't been able to. Here from California you're from me with The hat, pastrami, and Johnny's original pastrami pile high just like the East Coast Katz deli little more pricier, but true pastrami nowhere to be found here in the Austin area that I can see this next review covers the pastrami and the Philly cheese steak. First off Saturday afternoon about 6 PM arrived at the shop first time here a lot of nostalgia lot of decorative pictures on the wall some plaques round rock, high school, baseball team's graduations newspaper clippings your name. It's like going back in time. I step up to the counter order a small pastrami and a small Philly cheesesteak. I was going to get the foot-long pastrami but first I wanted to make sure something I liked and not just waste it so I tried both. Got a Pepsi for the wait and it took about 25 minutes for my order to come through. apparently lotta orders. Ahead of me. Wasn't too busy inside but that's what I get for not calling ahead. Make a note when you're ordering your food they will ask if you want their cherry tomato pickle sauce . I've never had it, but it's included in most sandwiches and I gave it a shot seen that Most reviewers had it on top of their sandwiches I started off with the pastrami, hoping to see a bunch of layered pieces sticking out of the sandwich, but that wasn't the case the roll was fresh. The pastrami was neatly tucked in, and I couldn't tell it was pastrami until actually took the first bite. Apparently, it's finally chopped up on the grill and you really can't make it out versus the pastrami I had in California where you can have layers of layers of meat with the fat on it and all that stuff like cats like top hat in California etc. look them up you'll see pictures . So a different take on pastrami it was still hot fresh and it was about a 6 inch sub took a bite and honestly I just tasted freshness tasted good but I couldn't really delegate what the pastrami was supposed to taste like because it was so finally chopped up and mix with other things . As you can see in the pictures, it's pretty much a mix of things it's hard to pinpoint exactly what was all in there besides going off the ingredients they advertise, And that cherry pepper salsa relish. Something was missing here and it couldn't put my finger on it maybe more cheese mustard maybe more but nothing stood out except for the relish weird but it was OK. It was good. It's a one time thing for me probably I won't probably be ordering it again, but for the most part, it was freshly made And did the job. Philly cheesesteak and most of you are thinking layers of steak, onions, mushrooms, cheese, whiz, or white cheddar cheese however, you want that look go to Jersey Mike's , for instance does a great Philly cheesesteak is this like Jersey Mike's absolutely not. . The steak was grilled good. I tasted the onions and I saw a few mushrooms in there, but again I think the cherry relish overpowered the sandwich. In all honestly looking back All I tasted on both sandwiches the meat and overall sub tasted close to each others. I couldn't really separate them to this was pastrami, and this was Philly cheesesteak however, we go by taste and visuals. The visuals were good. It was hot fresh And fully loaded with steak inside so I did get my moneys worth about $10 though I'm not sure I'll be back for this one either, but it was a shot to try always want to get out there and see what everybody has to offer and this is one I can check off so I'm still in the search for the best pastrami out there. I know where to get a a pretty good Philly cheesesteak at if you want just a basic one like Hoody's sells then keep going there and ordering it. I could re-order and try it without that cherry salsa relish maybe it'll taste better but overall the staff was great friendly. Definitely hopefully, we'll try them out with something different later in the future maybe a meatball sandwich but Otherwise I gave it 3 1/2 stars out of Five go out and try it. The sandwiches are good, above average, but not life-changing and they need more variety, The only way to order ahead is by calling in, buy calling ahead is pointless honestly. So I called in an order for two sandwiches and when I came in, they were probably 8 to 10 people in line. I've never called ahead and ordered before so I just walked over to the counter thinking that I would just pay and grab my sandwiches and leave. As a matter fact, my sandwiches were on the counter waiting for me so I thought this is perfect. But no, the girl in a very rude tone tells me that I have to go and stand in the back of that line of people that are ordering their sandwiches now. Even though both of my sandwiches are hot and ready for me to pick up right in front of me. So now I'm forced to go and stand in line for almost 20 minutes just to pay for my sandwiches that are now cold. And I could definitely do without the employees little attitudes, as if I'm some crazy person for wanting to get my food, hot and fresh and not stand in line to order after I've already called in and order ahead. I was never a big fan of the Philly Cheesesteak, and that still hasn't changed after eating here, but it was still one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks I've had before. I'm sure purists will say that adding sweet peppers is a no-no, but for me, it's a must.
