There's something special about walking into a place that's been open longer than you've been alive! This place was packed on a weekday and I had to circle the block a couple times to find parking. I went during lunch time and despite the packed restaurant, my order was made pretty quickly. I didn't realize just how big the burger was, I ordered a double which was massive! This place gave me diner vibes and I was here for it. I took my order to-go because of the crowd, but the food was still hot when I ate it. Looking forward to trying a shake the next time I go back!

Homegrown and full of heart, this Austin staple has become a go-to for the Pechacek family. The fries hit that perfect balance--crispy, golden, and impossible to stop eating--while the burgers are consistently stacked, juicy, and done right every time. And when the craving calls for something simple and satisfying, the chicken tenders basket absolutely delivers. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere: every visit feels personal, with friendly faces greeting you at the door and sending you off with a genuine smile. It's the kind of spot that feels like part of the neighborhood--warm, welcoming, and always worth coming back to.

Dan's Hamburgers is a huge favourite on r/austinfood. I came here around noon on Saturday, and there was a short line. I've heard that their breakfast is good, but I wasn't able to try it since they only serve it until 10:30am. I read reviews that say the tables are grimey, but they were not bad when we went. The interior looks like a classic American diner. I got a cheeseburger, my friend got a cheeseburger with jalapenos, and we shared a large fry for a total of $16. The large fry was not actually that large. It seemed more like a medium fry to me. The fries were pretty good, although I think most fries are good, so these were normal. My friend and I both thought the burgers were really good. I am not a big burger person, but this was great.

This place is just what you expect! It's a diner style restaurant with kind staff and a simple menu! The burgers were greasy, flavorful, and just hit the spot. Fries were a little soggy and needed salt, but not a big deal at all. If you're just in the mood for a good, simple burger w/out all the extras, this place is for you!

Ordered the bacon and egg breakfast sandwich to go which comes with chips (I assumed more along the lines of hash browns but it was indeed... a bag of potato chips. Did I eat it? Absolutely but later on because I don't need chips at 8 am ) The sandwich was delightful and I enjoyed it. I'd come by and try something different next time.

For a burger joint that's been around for 50 years, it tastes like it (great, no frills, freshly made-to-order burgers and fries)! But...it also looks like it. The inside is pretty disgusting, hence the 3 star rating. I'd say 3-3.5/5 overall. They also serve breakfast! The AC supply and returns in the ceiling had an ungodly amount of dust. The ceiling tiles and ceiling grid had so many stains and rust. It was not the type of place you'd want to sit in to eat. Ceiling fan in the lobby was caked with dust. Sure, it's an old fashioned diner style place with hard benches and tables. They do wipe them down in between customers, but they're long overdue for a good clean up and upgrade. The food itself is decent, albeit a bit pricy for a diner. The burgers were hot and fresh and flavorful! The onion rings were okay, and the curly fries were tastier than their regular fries looked, but not the best I've had. The vanilla malt (not pictured) was tasty but brick thick. Difficult to drink from the plastic straw. If you want a no frills, fresh, hot burger - this is the place. I can't say I'd return with so many other more convenient burger spots around town, but I'm glad I finally tried this long-standing Austin spot!

Really I would give them a 4.75. The food was very yummy. My ham sandwich was excellent and I would make the drive again for that thick, creamy chocolate malt. Only two small critiques were that the restaurant was extremely cold and they wouldn't let me sub fries for the chips that came with the ham sandwich.

Good old style cheeseburgers, you can tell that beef is fresh and not greasy and you can build your own. I am glad they keep reasonable prices and good quality product. Fries is also good and fresh. No errors or any delays. Like it happens in any burger place. Restroom could be maintained a little better. Service was good, especially an old lady who took our order was on top of it.

Finally trying Dan's!!!! Thank you YELP!!

Delicious!! All the toppings are super fresh. I got a burger fully loaded which is ketchup, tomato, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion! The burger is seasoned. If you don't like seasoning, this is not the burger for you. Everything made fresh to order. Not fake fresh but actually cooked after you order. Counter service, which I love! Don't live in Austin for 13 years and finally come here. Stop and come NOW! Yummy! I forgot to take good pics!! It looked to good so I dove in!

Dans Hamburgers has been around for a long time and it has that old school diner feel to it. Serving up greasy and great hamburgers. The service was good and the food came out right away and was hot. We tried one of their double cheeseburgers the burger was delicious and came with all the fixings you would expect from a burger. We also got a side of their curly fries. The food was cheap and delicious makes for a cheap great meal.

My son and I ate lunch here today. Still a 5 Star Burger Joint !!! The burgers are greasy and require several napkins but they are delicious. I asked for extra pickles and got plenty which made my day !!! The dining area is fairly clean, and the staff is friendly. Worthy of a bookmark and a try !!!

Didn't realize I would get tiny reheated frozen meatballs. For $7 I'd rather get 2-3 decent sized homemade ones. The side of hummus was literally a small ramekin that salad dressing usually comes in and was $1.50. The flavor was decent but a little chunky compared to what I'm used to elsewhere. The cheesy garlic bread was pretty good. I feel like it could improve with packaging that doesn't steam it during transport though (wrapped in sandwich paper and then foil). Perhaps a box or styrofoam container that can vent would help it be less chewy and retain some crispness? The marinara has good flavor but was super watery, not sure if that's the usual since this is my first time having Cheba Hut. I'll likely try this place again but a sandwich next time, since other people's pics looks yummy.

It was a perfectly balanced sandwich ratio, not too thick, not too thin, and came with chips or potato salad. The in-house beer is great, and there's something for anyone's tastes, plus non alcoholic options. We sat outside with our pups on the dog friendly patio, which is fully covered and shaded, with tons of great seating options. The parking is shared and gets packed in the evening or you have to pay to park if you are unable to find anything in the lot or on the street. Handsome Dans has a sign directing you to the back where they are located. The vibe is true to a bait shop/diner it's casual with a rustic feel, they have a large covered patio adjacent to Stargazer bar. I highly suggest sitting outside if possible because the inside does get a bit claustrophobic and smokey when it's packed and they are smashing paninis on the press with no proper kitchen overhead vents. The type of greasy smoke you get when you are making super buttery sandwiches on a hot press. The sandwiches are ok but not something I would go out of my way to have ,our kids liked the hotdogs and Frito pies which were also kind of "upper class" gas station quality. Most of the stuff here is food that probably tastes way better after drinking several beers. It's like any normal sandwich you could make at home and toss in a panini press to be honest. Really good beers on tap and friendly staff who seemed to disappear to the back quite a bit and came back confused. They didn't know if they had already given me my food because I was ordering and paying for extra food after more people in our party arrived. They literally saw my food I already had on the table from my previous order and thought they gave me double of what I ordered hahaha. I can't make a judgment because I have no clue what they kept dispersing to the back for but can just say the confusion was real, LOL. All together if I had to come back it be because someone I knew wanted to try it. Otherwise for me it's a one and done. I got the pictures I stood next to a sign ,I had the Signiture sandwiches, now I'm moving on. I can say I've been there done that. I'm guessing that a college crowd or just being a single person who just wants to be amongst people that this is the type of lowkey place to go if you're not into the typical Longhorn hangouts. You stop in ,have some beers, eat a low budget ingredient expensive panini sandwich and chill till you have to call yourself a Waymo cause the beer is good and strong.
