About 10 years ago for my 5 year anniversary, I had my engagement stone reset with a custom band which I happened to love at the time but later through the years found out the quality of workmanship wasn't ideal as I had thought which left a bad impression of the jewelers at the diamond district since then. A family friend referred them, I bought a diamond engagement ring and recently came back for two wedding bands. They are helpful and informative, and very easy to work with. I'm a very picky and indecisive buyer and they were patient enough to answer all my questions in detail, give me all the time I wanted to inspect the diamonds, walk me through all the different options, and put up with me coming back multiple times before making my mind up. They have great choices and price ranges for jewels and for settings, and will transparently walk you through the components of price to help you find the optimal choice for your budget. I had browsed the larger branded retailers just to familiarize with styles and - while the reception ranged from delightful to outright snooty - it's very clear that you pay for branding and can get a much much better deal or larger jewel (think 2-4x) by going to a family-owned merchant, yet the craftsmanship and gems are of equal or better quality and the experience more intimate.
