He understood exactly how I wanted my engagement ring to look, asked the right questions, made sure it fit perfectly, and got it done in a reasonable amount of time. When it came time for the wedding band, I brought over photos and same thing: he understood the task, asked any questions that needed to be asked, and it was absolutely perfect. I needed it engraved last minute and he was able to fit that in and even showed me what it would look like first. I asked to get the engagement ring also engraved at the same time and it was no issue. Every time I've come up, he always checks to make sure the rings are still in perfect condition. I'm pretty rough with my hands and there are definitely a lot of dings on the bottom of my rings, but they are holding together firm. He definitely makes jewelry that will last. read more

Years ago, John was referred to my fiance by a good friend. Subsequently he created an amazingly beautiful and unique engagement ring for me. I've had the ring for a while now and because I am such a rough person at times, I ended up damaging my intricately designed ring and losing a stone a couple of weeks ago. I called John up, told him about my issue and he saw me with no problem. Once he saw the ring (despite all the years that have passed), he remembered making it AND when my fiance came to him to design it! He took it with no problem, fixed the ring itself (which had a really bad slant to it - I told you I am rough), replaced the diamond, cleaned and polished it up and now it looks like it did when my fiance proposed to me!! From my interaction with John I can determine that he takes his craftsmanship very serious, is prided in providing quality product to his customers and aims to have his customers leave his office satisfied. Jean was recommended to my fiancé and I by a NYC appraiser after I lost an heirloom stone from my original engagement ring after only 2 months. Jean looked at my ring and quickly discovered lots of design and quality issues with it. He helped us by writing a letter explaining the concerns to our original jeweler. After we received our money back from them, Jean got to work recreating our ring with our heirloom diamonds and a newly sourced lab diamond. Jean's expertise made the whole process so easy after a tumultuous past experience. He took our design thoughts and then made both design and structural improvements. He was able to source a new lab diamond for the center stone that was more brilliant and bigger than our original one, and took extreme care with our heirloom diamonds. He provided computer and wax designs for us to see throughout the process, and then delivered the ring weeks ahead of our schedule. Working with Jean really turned a horrible situation into a positive one and we are so so happy with the final result - and I'm not worried about it breaking like the original ring! John is the man! I originally approached him to create a custome ring for my girlfriends birthday. Brenda was given a ring when she was 5 for being a flower girl. I though it would be sweet to have it remade so she could wear it again. He could tell I obviously loved her and asked if I wanted to marry her. I affirmatively nodded and the project changed course. We were looking to repair my engagement ring which broke after I had been wearing it with a ring guard for a few months. It was a beautiful vintage ring which belonged to my fiance's grandma, and after consulting multiple jewelers in the Diamond District (which was pretty overwhelming), we were the most comfortable with Jean, and it was an awesome choice that we made. The ring had a lot of wear and tear from years of love (minor cracks on the crown and shank, and the diamond was also slightly chipped) in addition to a major crack that led to the need for fixing while I was wearing the ring. Jean was very detailed oriented, and pointed out all the areas that needed fixing for us, as well as our options and his best advice. We ended up having Jean recut the diamond for us, as well as repairing parts of the ring and rebuilding the shank. Jean did an amazing job and kept us informed and assured through every step of the process, and was also extremely patient with us (with our many visits and being extremely receptive to tweaks). It was also extremely comforting to know that he really appreciated the meaning and character behind a vintage engagement ring and put in a lot of effort to keep its old charm and original look with great craftsmanship and attention to detail. We were especially nervous about recutting the diamond because we didn't want to alter the way it looked but wanted to have it recut to be less susceptible to future damage, and we couldn't have been happier with how it turned out. My fiance went to John because he was highly recommended from a close friend. My fiance had John create a custom engagement ring for me. It's absolutely stunning! The diamonds are gorgeous and crazy sparkly! My fiance dealt with John mostly, he had been to see him multiple times as he originally purchased an antique ring John had and then decided he'd rather have something custom made with brand new stones and all. John happily took on the project to create something brand new and worked with my fiance until he was content with the finished product (which didn't take long as John is an expert craftsman).
