We ordered Kung Pao chicken, curry beef, and egg rolls. The egg rolls were a bit greasy, and both the Kung Pao chicken and curry beef lacked flavor. The curry beef also had very little beef in it. China Star is my go-to Chinese takeout spot in the area. I can't believe I used to drive further out for Panda Express when this spot is way closer and the food is so much better. My go-to are: 1) The Sesame Chicken Combo (comes with fried rice and your choice of 3 cream cheese wontons or 1 egg roll). Everyone knows what Sesame Chicken tastes like, and this is a darn good one. I also had their Orange Chicken, and trust me it's also really good, but something about that Sesame Chicken just hits different. 2) The Beef Lo Mein. The beef is super tender and flavorful, and the noodles have a perfect bite to them. The sauce is slightly salty and umami. This blows Panda Express' Lo Mein out the water. 3) The fried chicken. This is classic amazing Chinese fried chicken. Slightly battered, really crispy exterior, juicy and moist interior. So good. If you're in the area and want some good American Chinese takeout food, this spot is it. They're geared towards takeout, so I don't know if you can dine in, as people usually occupy the space to wait for their takeout order. read more

I arrived around dinner time and ordered the chicken fried rice. The price was reasonable, and the food came out quickly. Unfortunately, the chicken and rice seemed a bit old and were dry, with a rather bland flavor. The dish consisted of rice, chicken, a light sauce, and medium-cut onions. I steamed the leftovers in the microwave and it was better than fresh from the restaurant. This was my first visit. I might try them again later. read more

I wish I lived closer because this is possibly one of the best Chinese restaurants within the surrounding areas! This used to be our go-to when we'd go back north from a weekend in the twin cities. Perfect hangover and road trip food. Shrimp lo mein 10/10 so flavorful and they put so much in your take away bowl! Cannot recommend it enough! Cashew chicken 10/10 I have no idea what they do to it, but this cashew chicken is probably the best I've ever had. It's crispy but there's so much sauce and everything is just perfect. Got this delivered last night and am very happy I did! Food was clearly prepared fresh before delivery and while it's standard Chinese-American takeout, it's a good rendition that won't leave you disappointed. Portions were pretty solid - two combination plates (entree, chicken fried rice, and an egg roll) were around $15 apiece and fed three people, with enough left for a small lunch the next day. Only thing I'd recommend if you get delivery is to make sure you have some real soy sauce. The packets they include are the super-cheap "Kari-out" brand and are literally just salt water with caramel color. Just use your own if at all possible! read more

My wife and I wanted to try a new place for food. While it didn't seem like anything outstanding from the outside, oh did this place surprise us both. We ordered sweet and sour chicken along with Ta Chien Chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was hot, fresh and outstanding. The Ta Chien chicken for my spice tolerance wasn't spicy whatsoever, but it had a great taste too. We had also tried some cream cheese wontons those delivered and more. We will definitely be coming back in the future as the price for the quality and quantity were an absolute steal. read more

I used to go to China Star regularly for many years before my job moved. Disappointed to find out they changed the food for the worse. They used to have the best Kung Pao Chicken I've ever had. But now it's made with deep fried/breaded chicken rather than stir fried. Giant onion pieces and overly salted sauce and fried rice. I used to love the egg rolls but now they're mushy and seem to be mostly mushy cabbage. The employees are great and friendly. Restaurant is always very clean. There are a couple of tables but this is primarily for to go orders. read more

Very spotty consistency with there quality, I am a Egg Foo Young fanatic, Their Egg Foo Young is the Best around when they have the right amount of ingredients, but ounce in a while they Don't have enough of the vegetables and it turns out to be An Egg with Chicken in it. This USED to be our go-to for Chinese take away. It is a bit more expensive, but the quality WAS very good. This order was in the toilet. The egg rolls were good, but everything else was average Chinese- chewy chicken, tough chicken, etc. However, their inflated prices have remained the same. If you're looking for good Chinese, this is no longer the place on my list. read more

Boyfriend and I moved to Crystal February 2015, and this has become our go-to Chinese takeout place. You'll find your standard Americanized Chinese food with above average execution. Food is quite tasty, value is good, and service is prompt/friendly. We just wish they delivered! My usual is sesame chicken and the boyfriend's is beef and broccoli, and both are excellent. China Star's beef and broccoli is the boyfriend's second favorite ever. Fried rice is usually really tasty, although last time it was flavorless - maybe because I was full when I tried it. We have been ordering from China Star for over 5 years. They have never made a mistake and always greet us by name and ask about which ever family members aren't present to pick up. When my son comes in with me, they give him cookies. I really love this place and am always happy to give them our business. It's always busy but food pretty much takes about 15minutes from order to ready no matter what time you call. Sesame Chicken is our usual favorite. Kung Bo Chicken has peanuts and is spicier and also makes the A list. We order the beef lo mein and shrimp or veggie mei fun frequently. Fried dumplings are yummy. Shrimp with garlic sauce is very good. We always have a bottle of siracha on the table to spice everything up more when we get home. read more

I've been going to China Star since 1996. I really enjoy the place. The food is always fresh and well made. They pay attention to detail. Over the years I've pretty much narrowed down to my "regular" order, but everything is great. The mushroom fried rice is good, the hot & sour soup is really good. I just started working in this area and eat the egg rolls for lunch at least twice a week. They are so yummy. The cabbage is crunchy and not stringy. They are always crispy and never greasy. Their child is an amazing, state fair first place ribbon winner (several times) artist who's work is featured on the walls. Check this little hole in the wall out.
