I was able to take a test drive of the bike although it was a used version from last year. After some amount of paperwork and communication back and fourth, I was able to pick up my bike the next day. Overly excited, I didn't notice the gas tank hardly having any fuel. I now know that Lake City Choppers will leave your gas tank nearly empty, even if you buy the new model. I entered the shop after just pulling into the parking lot with my bike, and it was empty. I rode the bike home and then called to ask if they leave all their bikes with as little fuel as possible in them. The person on the phone stated that it's simply "the way the managers want it done". Confirming that they do this with all their new sales, I thanked them and hung up. My first destination with my new motorcycle was at the gas station, thanks to Lake City Choppers located right in Plattsburgh!

While I was being shown the motorcycle another person arrived to see the same motorcycle. I told Frank I would purchase the bike, yet he told the other customer he had first dibs on it. Both of us had phoned the previous day to see if the bike was available. I had asked if a deposit to hold the bike would be refundable if I changed my mind after seeing the bike in person, the answer was "no". The other customer was angry, we both agreed it was a terrible way to do business. I left, he stayed.

Frank immediately came across as both knowledgeable and honest, so when he asked if I had a budget in mind, I wasn't weirded out and gave him my number. About a week after I dropped the moped off, Frank said it was ready for pick-up. The cost was less than half of what I was expecting to pay and the bike is running tip-top. The friend I presented it to was super stoked and seemed really impressed with Frank's work, which is probably a more valuable testimonial than my own. If I ever end up with a moto, I'll know where to take it.

Seven days go by and I decided to just pick up the bike and go to Land Air in Essex to get it done quickly and right since it still wasn't done. In fact, prices so low, they grabbed the attention of the Greater Toronto Motorcycle dealers who tried to lobby tire manufacturers and have him shut down cause he was practically giving away tires. If you're riding down like I did from Ottawa, the trip is approximately 1.5 hours @ a small increase over the posted speed limit. You can take rest stops in Casselman, Rigaud, or Hudson. All have gas stations and various restaurants such as Tim Hortons, Subway, McDonalds, and Harveys. Tires can be mounted on the rims alone or be taken off the bike and re-mounted after tires are installed and balanced. Attention to detail can be seen when he takes the time to even wash his hands after each rim and tire is mounted!! If you don't want to take them down and have the tires shipped, you can have them shipped Fedex Ground to you and a very reasonable cost. Shipping to Ottawa was like $20. Orders can be placed online or over the telephone. Call or email and you'll get your answers quick! On location you'll find some helmets and parts on display and for sale. I even got an amazing deal on a genuine Arai mirrored visor for $60!! Pete's got my business for tires for life!!! $60 for him to unmount your rims from your bike and install the tires and re-mount. Payment options are major credit cards, debit, however cash may be the best method of payment.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt--this is a busy time of year for motorcycle shops--but that should've been my first warning sign. When I finally brought my bike in for a routine inspection, oil change, and tune-up, the service went from mildly frustrating to completely unacceptable. Communication was practically nonexistent. Getting a simple status update felt like pulling teeth--calls went unanswered, and when I did get through, I was given vague or noncommittal answers. The worst part? The cost. I was given a quote, reviewed it, and approved the work based on that number. Two weeks later--after zero proactive updates--I went to pick up my bike and was handed a bill that was double the quoted price. Not slightly higher. Not due to a quick phone call to explain additional issues. Double. And at no point did anyone contact me to explain, get approval, or even give a heads-up that costs were increasing. That's not just poor customer service--that's a complete breakdown of basic business practices and trust. It's incredibly frustrating to see a shop that used to be reliable drop the ball so hard on communication, transparency, and accountability. Between the lack of responsiveness and the surprise charges, this experience has been enough to make me seriously reconsider ever coming back.
