In going with my vegetarianism the rughetta salad or wood roasted vegetables are enough for a meal on many instances. I love this place. First of all, they remember me and act like it's a special occasion when I return--just the kind of feeling you want to have for a pizza joint in Brooklyn. But this one is special: because, for the most part, I can't eat pizza anymore. Since having to go gluten-free two years ago (I'm one step away from Celiac disease--) I have adopted a very Paleo diet....Most substitute foods are complete crap, so I eat a salad for dinner every night at home, and--for the most part--stick to meat and potatoes when dining out. Having just completed a lovely pizza tour of the neighborhood, I can say with certainty that this pizza is amazing. We stopped here after touring NYLS dorm because they had gluten free crust and vegan cheese. One person in our party had the regular crust with meatballs. Great service and the pies were fantastic. Pizzas came piping hot and were flavored authentically- fresh basil, EVOO, and toppings were spot on. Brick oven crust as it should be, crispy on the outside but still tender. Only one minor comment, wish there was a bit less burnt spots on crust. I had black spots on my fingers. Regardless, I could eat this everyday. read more

A mistake had been made, under 6 persons gratuity should not be added automatically. Very attentive, apologies accepted. Mr Dellarocco offered next time free dessert when we are in again. Wonderful food. Really! I don't think it's necessarily a "foodie" place but for the rest of us, every dish and every pizza I've had there has been delicious. The menu is medium/small which is a good thing because they don't try to make everything: they just try to make everything very well! The price point is perfect. My one complaint and I actually think this is preventing them from being a destination restaurant: The absolute WORST lighting. The place is totally uninviting from the outside; you could easily walk by without seeing it. If you do see it, it's lit like a down-and-out bodega. once inside, you wonder why it's so dim, but not in a warm flattering way but in a: "we're losing business and closing soon" way. I've never been in a place with creepier, weirder, more unpleasant lighting! Fix it you guys! Install 6 sconces on the side walls. Your light is on the blue side; designers know it should be in the red/orange/amber family. Put in some orange or amber floor lamps. It's otherwise a great restaurant. read more

Was initially planning on eating at Fornino close by on Pier 6 because their Yelp page said they were open.. They were not. Grr..Their website says each locations specific hours but they should clear that up on Yelp too, right? Luckily it was a nice day by the water. :D Well, to our rescue, Dellaroccos was a nice alternative. Bright, clean, & friendly. Great pizza (every option sounded amazing) & loved the refreshing Avocado salad. Got a gluten free and vegan pizza. I was initially not going to get vegan cheese on the pizza because I usually dislike the flavor but the lovely waitress let me taste their vegan cheese before putting it on the pizza and I was so happily surprised. I like Sottacasa and Sosta - both on Atlantic for gourmet pizza. Salad was good and fresh. Of course Grimaldi's down the hill and a few others as well. Service - lousy. I've waitressed plenty in my life and have a lot of tolerance for meh service but I really CANNOT stand when a waitress come over and says "Ready"? (particularly when I was in the bathroom and was just sitting down, and hadn't had 10 secs to look at the menu) No hello, no what can I get you to drink, nothing. Dellarocco's is a great pizza place with a pleasant ambiance and delicious pizza. Finding good gluten-free places is a difficult task even in Brooklyn and NYC. Finding the spot harkens me back to the days when I was not on a gluten-free diet. You can barely taste the difference in a gluten-free pizza compared to a non-gluten free pizza! My non-gluten free husband even thinks the gluten free pizza is outstanding. The margarita simple yet divine is a great choice for those that want a great no frills option. It's in a great area of Brooklyn heights in which you can look around and shop while you wait for a seat. Definitely worth trying for all those GF-ers out there! read more

One the expensive side for Pizza and portions are small. Food is overall good. Fresh ingredients and nice selection. Place is also pleasant. Please note if you order a calzone or meatballs ask for sauce - and extra sauce. They give the smallest amount - and if you order delivery ask for two or three containers of sauce - they are very small. This is my second review of them. My first review, of a few years back, was a pan, but it's always possible that I was there on an off day so I just tried them again. My experience was identical. Soggy, burnt pizza with a bitter undertone; flavorless sauce, half melted cheese in paltry quantity. Go to My Little Pizzeria instead, just a few blocks away for a decent slice, or or better yet, Table 87 which is also a thin slice, coal oven joint, but infinitely superior. read more

We decided to try Dellarocco's for dinner as it is a new addition to our neighborhood. How can you go wrong with pizza? We ordered a Margherita pizza with buffalo mozzarella and an avocado salad. The order came in a timely manner (about 30 or so minutes) and, was correct (I had made a change to the salad). However, that's where the positive review stops. The salad, $9, consisted of a few pieces of spinach, hardly any avocado, and some onions and four orange slices. I know this is Brooklyn Heights and prices are high, but at least serve quality food and give us a salad, not just what looked like some leftover spinach. Such a disappointment. It looked like someone ate most of the salad and left what they didn't want. It wasn't even enough to split between two people. Then the pizza, $15, cold and a mess. Honestly, the pizza was nothing to write home about and certainly was not worth $15. No flavor and mushy. The cheese was falling off, the crust was burnt, it was gross. Unfortunately, we went to get a second dinner. At least we tried it, but will we order again? Absolutely not. read more

An excellent place with excellent food and first rate, friendly service. Needing to take a break from a fairly long walk, we found Dellarocco's of Brooklyn. Unlike some of the other reviewers, we hadn't heard of it at all. There was a nice vibe immediately upon walking in. Sort of trendy but balanced with a family friendly feel. Our waitress was all smiles, enthusiastic and efficient. The restaurant was highly staffed for that time of day, which was late afternoon. When we arrived, there were only a few tables occupied but by the time we left, it was one hundred percent full. The food was far above what I was expecting. We started off with the Meatballs Napoletane and the Bresaola salad. The meatballs were four small homemade style meatballs. The rich but delicate marinara let the flavor of the meatballs come right through. The Brasaola sald was a delight. Thinly sliced braseola, shaved slices of a well made parmigiano and arugula that was lightly dressed in a gentle lemon vinaigrette. The pizza was close to perfect. Our first was the Arrabbiata that had hot soppressata as one of the ingredients. You could taste the quality and freshness of the tomato through the other spicy flavors. It could have been just a tad hotter for me but that's not a complaint whatsoever. The second pizza was a clam pie and was surprisingly good. High in clam flavor and enhanced with the freshness added by the cherry tomatoes and parsley. The ONLY thing I would improve upon would be that these particular pies would have benefited from a slightly more defined crunch in the crust. ONLY Slightly. I am sure that when I get there again, if I ask for that, I will get it. The wine selection and the beers on tap are thoughtfully chosen and appropriate. The day was hot and I had a superb chilled rose' that I am still thinking about. Phenomenal! Just ordered a gluten- free pizza from them for the first time, having passed by the shop many times. Funny that we can get gluten- free pizza in the hood, but no gluten free beer for blocks. Sadly, Dellarocco's says they can't deliver beer....really happy to find such sophisticated gluten free nearby. And I look forward to having a meal there with friends. read more
