We didn't have a chance to dine but the staff went above and beyond to stay open late for us at the bar and to also allow us to watch the US Men's Olympic hockey gold medal game in their conference room the next morning! We went here for dinner. This is probably the highest-end restaurant in town we found. The location was right on The lake with great views. We ate at 5 Pm. One of the daily specials (white fish) was already sold out, and the second one was basically a hamburger. My wife had the lobster ravioli's which she said was "OK". I had the pork tenderloin, and again it was just ok. We ordered 2 old fashion drinks, but they both had lots of muddled fruit, which we did not like. Overall the food was ok, and the service was just ok also. My expectations for a higher price tag were not met. The price point for the meal was not worth the price point for other places. read more

The Hotel room price was very competitively priced and cozy, so we decided to try the onsight restaurant as well. The prices were surprisingly high. The cheapest entree that I saw was $30 for some scallops. A 16oz ribeye was $50. Mind you, this was a Best Western Hotel, not the Ritz. We went down the street and had a complete meal for 2, for less than the cost of the ribeye. The staff were dressed for a Fine Dining restaurant. Place had very little indoor or outdoor seating. Will stay at the hotel again, but will not eat at the restaurant. read more

Salad and calamari to start both were good, neither exceptional. Whitefish dinner was good, not great; whitefish hoagie was huge and very good; scallops were meh - served with bacon jam which was too sweet for my tastes. Portions were very large. Swedish cream quite literally berries and cream The cream it's self was as if I were eating a spoonful of clouds themselves, the texture was indescribably wonderful. If I had to compare the texture to any other straight from the cow product I would say it reminded me of cream cheese but fluffy. The sweet vanilla bean undertones were perfectly complimented by the middle layer of fruit purée? I'm not sure what the fruit stuff exactly was but it was heckin good. It had a bit of a tang to it which battled with the sweetness of the cream quite well. To top it off we had fresh raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. The highest quality berries for the highest quality desert. With a mix of sweet and sour they were the perfect topping to this perfection. The berries were so fresh in fact, that they absolutely destroyed my taste buds. But it was totally worth it read more

Wow, sooooo good! We didn't realize this place was in our hotel when we booked it. So great. The food was amazing, and our server was great! We ate in early July, in between the mask mandates, so I can't comment on how safe it is to eat their now, (COVID). I promised that I would give this place another shot on my birthday, giving them a chance to work out the kinks of opening a new place. Yesterday was my birthday, and I kept my promise. To be quite honest, I wanted to love everything, write a glowing review and know that the last visit was just them working through things. That won't happen. To start with the pros, the calamari is delicious. I was looking forward to it, and I wasn't disappointed. It was so good! The wait staff seemed less confused and like they knew what they were doing. Our waitress was also very nice. And the door that slammed through the entirety of our previous meal appears to be fixed. Yay!! Everything else, though, was just meh. I ordered the appetizer of lemon garlic wings with fries for my meal. I'd had wings from this place in December before the renovation and loved them. They were so good then, that I think about them regularly. These were not the same. Not by a long shot. They were over-cooked and absolutely swimming in sauce. It was overkill. Absolute overkill. The fries were okay. You can't really mess them up. Those wings, though... My husband ordered the scallops, which for some reason were served on slices of Black Forest ham and over a pile of mashed potatoes. None of those seem to go together. He said it was okay. For $28 I expect it to be a bit more than okay. I want to give it another chance, but I feel like I can't keep giving chances only to be disappointed again. It seems that the people are working too hard to be delivering food without a purpose. read more

Nice restaurant with the best view in Ashland. Service is solid, and the food was really good. I haven't spent much time in Ashland, but I expect this is the nicest place there. Try getting there a little early so you can get a patio table to enjoy the amazing scenery. read more

OK. Little on the pricey side. I had to search everywhere for an menu.. finally found one in the pictures online. (google guest photo)

So the big caveat at the top here:. They have been open like a week and clearly have some kinks to work out. But in general I'd expect they get those things figured out and my rating will be higher on future visits. We were here months ago and it was a totally different bar/restaurant (Molly Cooper's). Honestly, I liked it how it was. Sort of nautical pub vibe... The new look is a little cold. Certainly nicer and fresher, but lacks charm. Again, they just opened and maybe some artwork, etc is still in the works. It is however very lake view forward and was bright and airy which I do like. I didn't think it needed a change but I can see where they are going, I just hope they aren't quite there yet and a little more is to come. The central bar facing the lake is nice and makes good sense. Biggest renovation complaint:. The stupid door. The door to the patio (probably a great place on a nice day) is not properly adjusted and so it slams hard every time people go thru it. If it was just a few times, whatever, but people were going thru constantly. And I can only assume (I had my back to it) it was mostly wait staff going back and forth. You know the door slams! Stop, let it close soft and then walk on. Why aren't all the servers being told to not slam it? It's easy to fix to not slam anyway, but i get the restaurant staff not knowing how, but how is nobody that works there figuring out what they can do to not slam it? It was annoying. Combine it with a room that was all windows and tile and hard surfaces, and it got loud at times and the door really didn't help. Some soft materials are needed to quiet the sound... But food... The menu has a lot of really tasty looking options. I definitely would like to go back and try more things. Everyone seemed happy with their meals and left full. I had the tempura walleye which was good minus one or two bones. The potatoes were nice. The food looked good and tasted pretty good. Absolutely want to try more of it... The wait staff didnt seem fully in sync yet but our waitress was very nice, had a bit of personality and did a good job dealing with a couple of minor hiccups (inconsequential blips that were clearly from a staff still figuring it all out and not on her at all). I very much don't expect perfection a week after opening and I think every issue we had, none of which was a big deal other than the door, was clearly just new restaurant jitters. I suspect a return trip in a month or two will be a tasty but smoother ride. read more

Worth the 12 hour drive! I had the locally caught Lake Superior whitefish. Lightly battered and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Crispy outside and melts in your mouth! Paired with a local Doane Lager. After reading the reviews, my husband and I decided this would be a nice place to have dinner. We were seated outside and we began to wait. We were there ten minutes before we were given water. Then we waited another 10 minutes before my husband flagged someone down and asked if we would be able to order. A server named Sam came out and said well I guess you're my table. I stated that we had been waiting over 20 minutes. At that time he say ooh is that a long time to wait? We left. As we were walking out I asked to speak to a manger. Stopped in for a birthday dinner after a day in Bayfield & doing the Apostle Islands cruise. So glad we stopped! Sat outside overlooking the lake. Great service, local history & recommendations from our awesome waiter, Andy. We both had the salmon salad & loved it. Our daughter ordered whitefish fingers from the appetizer menu as her entree and they were also excellent, as was the dill seasoned tartar sauce. Excellent fries with our son's club sandwich. We were visiting my daughter who goes to Northland College and stayed at the hotel too. It was just so lovely. We'd been to the old restaurant before and wow, what a transformation. The bartender said that they were still waiting for the finishing touches like banquette seating, lounge chairs, decor, etc, so it's not quite finished, but it's going to look really cool I think when it's complete. The service, the food, and the view was all top notch! Way different than our last experience at the old place. Kudos to whoever dreamed this up....it really needed it. Oh...my husband had the Walleye, my daughter had the Protein Bowl (she's a vegetarian), and I had the salmon salad. We also shared the crab cake appetizer. It was all so delicious. read more
