Living in the Northeast it's not always easy to find a place that can give you southern cooking and do it right. Heard about Delta's through a friend and decided to give it a shot one night. To start parking is definitely not easy. Drop your party off in front of the restaurant and go park at the hotel nearby. When we walked in there was a live DJ playing and he was very very loud. Not only loud but also playing music that some would consider offensive and definitely not what I would consider child friendly. The hostess told us that the music should wind down within 30 minutes so we pressed forward with our reservation. Fortunately they put us in a private room for our party. The extremely loud music continued for approximately 40 more minutes before it finally came to a rest. I could even hear some of the staff celebrating that the loud music had stopped and that they could finally hear their customers again. With all that said that's where the negatives end. Honestly. Service by our waitress Sloan was amazing. She was very attentive and friendly as were her teammates. Everyone was wonderful. We ordered various dishes including fried chicken, beef ribs, peach pork ribs, and lots of different sides including collards, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and green beans. My only disappointment being that they weren't serving grits at the time. Everything was delicious! Well prepared. Great flavor and plenty large portions. I can't believe that some of the reviews say the portions were small. That is definitely not the case. Oh and the banana pudding was banging! Coffee was also fresh, strong, and delicious. We would definitely come back again but would want to know when the music was going to be pumping to try to avoid that. With that said, it might not be our thing but it may be someone else's. After work gathering with the fellas was great at Deltas. The service was great and quick. The food was delicious. There was really nothing to complain about. The dumplings could use a little more filling, but was still delicious. During happy hour the apps are 1/2 off (with the exception of 3 dishes: crab cakes, the Deltas platter, and catfish fingers) and the cocktails and beer are half off as well (no top shelf). This is a great place offering good southern cuisine with nice cocktails. There's valet parking which I recommend but if you're familiar with the area I believe there are lots within walking distance. They offer a varied menu specializing in southern Cajun cuisine. My table was feeling adventurous and included an order of the fried gator with other appetizers. I was apprehensive but turned out to be good. I opted for a carafe of the mango sangria to accompany the ribs, collards and candied yams. Everyone's meal looked delicious and more importantly everyone was happy with their choices. I found their dessert options limited though. The venue appears to have plenty of room on two floors and centering around live music. The evening I went there was a trio playing jazz. We sat at high top tables across the bar near the band. All in all it was a fun evening with good food and drinks and live music. I truly truly wanted to enjoy Delta's. Really and truly. However, my experience there was subpar at best. Let's start with the perks. The ambiance was cool; they had a DJ there that night that knew what he was doing! Playing 90's hip-hop and r&b, my type of vibe. The drinks were cool as well. Now, on to the pitfalls. The food was pretty bland and everything came out at once. The service just felt so rushed! No pacing of the courses at all. Secondly, they had a catfish dish that I had to send back. One of my favorite spots in New Jersey. They serve dinner and brunch. I have come a few times for dinner, but this is my go to brunch spot. The food is soul food and is always spot on. The mac and cheese though?! You gotta have it idc. For brunch I usually get the spinach and goat cheese omelette, whiting fish and asiago grits, or shrimp and asiago grits. All are great. My favorite part about brunch is their $0.95 Mimosas!! How much better does that get?! I also love the vibes of this establishment. They have specials almost every night they're open, some times live music, some times a DJ, or a brunch event. There is always something going on and it is always so lively. This place is great for a date night, but it can get quite noisy so just a heads up if you're looking for a quiet date night, this isn't your scene. Only downside is finding parking, so definitely come a little early to make sure you have enough time to find a spot. read more

The collards was just the way I like them, they were tender and flavorful; the smothered wings were tasty as well. However, the potato salad was not to my liking as too much was missing; the look was white & pale, which represented the taste as well. It literally tasted like potatoes with mayonnaise & celery; truly bland, there was no love put into this dish. where are the ingredients that make up that authentic soul food flavor. So you can say I was a bit disappointed. However the Mac & cheese was on point, although the noodles were a tad bit over-cooked, I still enjoyed it and would choose it over the potato salad any day. Overall, my first experience was descent. What really needs improvement is parking, how is $20 valet parking okay? I had such high expectations for Delta's but unfortunately, was very disappointed. The restaurant itself is beautiful, so if you're looking for ambiance only, go for it. However, I thought the food left much to be desired. I came for brunch with a large group of friends. I say this because collectively we agreed for the most part that the good was not great. I ordered the salmon cakes over grits. It's a very simple dish and it's a bit pricey so I would expect it to be done well and seasoned perfectly. The salmon cakes we're okay but the grits were really bland. I put a bunch of salt on mine. My husband ordered the very expensive bourbon french toast which consisted of three half slices of bread in syrup. A few people ordered the red velvet waffle, which is suspiciously bright red and suspiciously did not taste of red velvet. The most disappointed part was that after spending $30 per person, we were all hungry afterwards and got more food from elsewhere after we left. I seem to frequent this place... especially for milestone events, due to proximity to my family... very important when one of the members is my almost 87 year old grandmother.. And, Southern cooking is very near and dear to us all.. This night was a birthday dinner for my 60 year old aunt.. Coretta made the reservation process very easy and accommodating. And everything was as we requested when we arrived. Kailyn was a gracious hostess who took all of our requests with a smile. When we got to the table, she realized that it may be too cramped for us to sit comfortably and gladly changed our seating to a much better arrangement. Nakia, our server was extremely nice and engaging. She worked really hard for us last night and it wasn't overlooked. My family can be an interesting bunch and she went along with it all. Both ladies are a wonderful asset to the Delta's team. As usual food was delicious! I got the fried seafood platter with hush puppies, mac and cheese, and fried okra (yup... that kinda night).... yum yum yum. Can't wait to dig into my leftovers. We picked a Thursday night because of the live band and karaoke option.. which fit in perfectly, because of the guest of honor is a performer and music is her life. First let me say I had a wonderful time at delta's my kids took me there for my birthday. I would recommend it but don't go there with high hopes of great food , my ribs & cornbread was dry and cold. My son's white meat chicken was so dry. I don't think there meats are freshly cooked. You would think at least Friday/Saturday the food would be fresh. Parking is very limited so be prepared to drive around for a while. Service was wonderful. The restaurant was very clean and the restroom was clean as well. What can I say about Delta's Restaurant? My date had been to Delta's before, I had not. Nor have I ever eaten at a restaurant on a holiday. And since we both had no plans for Thanksgiving, we decided to give Delta's a try. Until I checked, I didn't know the restaurant has been around since 1999. We arrived at Delta's an hour too early, because we underestimated the travel time. My date and I ended up at the bar and sat there until our table was available. At the bar we were given menus in case, we choose to eat there instead of using our table reservations. Unfortunately, even though the place wasn't crowded, we still waited an entire hour for our table. My date (who hadn't eaten all day) became anxious once that hour was up. Thankfully we were seated right after that. I'm so glad the nice glass of Chardonnay I ordered lasted that long. I'm not sure what brand it was, I was just happy it wasn't too strong. The restaurant ambiance was very nice. I loved the romantic lighting as well as all the exposed brick and its classy, upscale restaurant décor. (I heard somewhere, the beautiful wood bar was originally from a 1930s-era restaurant.) I enjoyed looking at all the wonderful artwork displayed on those brick walls. All in all, the place was gorgeous! Now the music...WOW! I could have stayed at Delta's until they closed just to listen to the great music, they shower their patrons with. They had a nice mix of old R&B. (FYI, they charged almost $18 for an "Entertainment Fee", not sure why, I would have let them use my Apple Music account for free, Lol) Originally, I was going to order something off their regular menu but opted for their traditional Thanksgiving meal. I also ordered the ham for an extra $5. Regrettably, you couldn't substitute the Turkey for the Ham, so I got both. My favorites were the mac and cheese, ham, homemade cranberry sauce and the cornbread. The peach cobbler was good too, a little tart for me, but the ice vanilla cream helped. The staff at Delta's were all pleasant. Our waiter was a nice young man, though I forgot his name, he did mention that he used to work in the kitchen but now waits tables. He was helpful and very attentive. I forgot to mention on Thanksgiving Day there was also a 20% automatic gratuity added to each bill. It was clearly stated on the menu; the entertainment fee was not. I surely can't call this place a "One and Done". Delta's Restaurant exceeded my expectations and is deserving of another visit. The ambiance is nice but the live music was loud and they charge an additional $8 per person for the live entertainment. I was disappointed to see that the menu changed drastically. I went to dinner tonight with a party of 5. The service was excellent(kudos to Leo). Everyone in my party agreed that the presentation was great but the food was not as soulfully satisfying. They no longer allow you to choose sides because the entree already includes the sides. You can remove something from the original entree but you can't substitute. That's new since I last visited. My Lancaster Chicken was not a good choice. The chicken was tough to chew and had no flavor. After informing the waiter , who in turn got the Manager, Alisha, who never apologized and appeared to be annoyed that I was not satisfied, I was given a choice to switch the meal out but "to go"! They did not want me to stay and enjoy my replacement meal, due to time and advised that I would have to take it in a "to go" container. I found that to be rude. After that , I waited for another 20 minutes for the replacement meal and was not even offered a dessert menu or drinks while I waited. They never checked on our table again except to pay the check. Which in my opinion was $370 over priced. To be honest, I will not recommend this restaurant after this experience. The food is not really good soul food. You can get better service and food at TOPS Diner in Newark for less money and without being rushed out the door. On top of all that it cost $20 to park. I'm very disappointed at the management and how the customer experience is no longer a priority over how much revenue they can bring in. It's been a while since I came to Delta's, so time for an update! They still get 5 stars! This time, I came for a weekend birthday brunch. I had seen Delta's at night time, but this place was still bumpin' at 1pm on a Sunday. I've honestly never seen a livelier place on a Sunday afternoon. The DJ was playing hit after hit, from the 90s to the present. Once our party had fully arrived, we were taken to our tables and handed brunch menus. There were lots of good options, but I ended up going for the blueberry french toast which came with a side of bacon and home fries ($12.95). Our party of ~10 also got 95 cents mimosas to go with our meals. Our dishes came out in about 15-20 minutes and everyone dug right in. My french toast was really good. I did wish there was a little less of the blueberry syrup because the french toast was essentially drowning in it. Either way, I demolished the meal in a matter of minutes. I'm glad that after the last couple of years Delta's has remained consistent. That being said, you still need reservations, especially for large brunch parties on the weekend. Thankfully, I and my friends did, but I did see other parties told they would have to wait for a long time if they hadn't made reservations. read more

A perfect dining experience. Food was perfectly prepared. I had fried whiting over jambalaya grits with yams and Mac/cheese. The flavors were hard to describe, but cooked perfectly and I couldn't stop eating it. Service was great, and the ambiance is just so cool, especially with a Friday night band set up in the middle of the restaurant. When the waiter finally comes over, we placed everything: drinks, apps and lunch entrees. THERE IS NO WAY they should ENFORCE the 90-min dining rule if they are OVERbooked and UNDERstaffed. Drinks came... then the apps at which time it was over an hour since we were seated only to be told our waiter had to leave and a new waitress had to take our lunch orders again. Come to find out, our waiter (black male with an Afro) was hungover... And I'm glad we were seated upstairs... judging how crowded downstairs was, you would think COVID is long gone. I came to Deltas with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday and in-turn had my birthday ruined by the establishment manager. We arrive to the establishment I had my cake in hand and the manager tells me we charge for outside cakes being brought in she stated it says it when I booked the reservation I was shocked because I did not see anything stated. The manager said she would hold the cake in the refrigerator for us until we leave. I was also informed of the entertainment fee per person wasn't aware of that either because I visited this establishment for my birthday in 2021 had an amazing time and I brought my cake in. I realized that is stated in the booking and on the company website but nowhere is it stated about the cake fee. I asked the manager can she show me where it's stated about the cake fee she could not find any where. It gave me reason to believe she made it up. I asked her since we can't find the policy could we waver the fee it's my birthday that lady looked me straight in the eye and said no I have to stand on business. I was livid so we decided to leave and as we were leaving she states I was gonna comp the cake fee but since your leaving enjoy your birthday.
