Great customer service. Only improvement would be to have a little more diversity in the ski product line. Too much scooter inventory.

So I thought, great! It's July, let's get rid of the skis. Well apparently that is their corporate website that has that video. The sales person at the PIAS in Santa Rosa was pretty rude in curtly explaining that after doing a google search for PIAS, going to their website and watching a video, I should've continued further and found their website specifically for the Santa Rosa store, in which case it is "clearly explained" that they don't buy skis until November. I definitely take the heat for trying to sell skis in July. My bad. But after watching the video, it seemed to be their policy to take equipment any time of year. Also, what would've been a nice response to me is something like, "Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. That's our corporate website. I'm really sorry for the confusion, but each store is franchised, and we have different..." whatever. I'm sure this is a fine store for your used sports equipment needs. But would it kill you to be a little polite in explaining your policies? I won't be going back.

I've gotten accustomed to skiing in pain over my 40+ years of skiing, and previous boot fittings never quite yielded the results i wanted. I have odd shaped feet - like a cartoon duck. narrow in the back and wide and square at the toes. high volume boots never quite fit right as they would still be narrow at the toes, but then way too loose in the back with a lot of heel lift. thermal liners never seemed to solve any of my problems. punches seemed to help, but never remove the problem. enter Paul. this man is a gift sent from the goddess Skadi. He assured me my feet weren't that far out of band, and proceeded to tweak the best fitting boot i've ever used. I can go a full day charging with minimal discomfort. i dont have to undo the buckles every lift ride up. i wanted to wait out the season before i gave a review as I wanted to see how well the results held up over several days, but the 5 stars is well warranted. i've decided to try learning telemark this season, and finding any boot has been extremely difficult. there are not many models, and even fewer stock of said models, whether used or new. but once i find a boot, you can be sure i'll be bringing it to Paul (who claims to have never fitted a telemark boot, but i'm going to convince him to give it a go).

I'm shocked this company is top rated and people recommend it…read more I came for their expertise to choose the best boots for my feet. During the painful thermo fitting procedure I told many times it feels wrong and too narrow. They told me "hang on, I know what I'm doing, you have super narrow feet and we have only one boot model that will fit you right". I had no choice but to trust and paid more than $1000. Every time I wear these boots, I tell myself I'm switching back to a snowboard. My feet get numb as soon as I put the boots on even without buckling up. After a dozen of painful rides I returned and they did another fitting of the same boots. It didn't help. Now I'm sitting in a ski rental with amazing comfortable boots on my feet and think how much I hate California Ski Company for ripping me off and creating so many problems and waste of time.

A different kind of review…read more I visited Tim's shop to seek a fix on my snowboard for a couple of core shots that happened early season. I'm someone who keeps their boards for a long time, but this year was the year I happened to upgrade. I brought in my new Burton Custom to see if Tim's shop could take on the fixes. I was pretty bummed out, and I knew I needed to take care of filling these core shots if I wanted to keep this board like my other ones for many years. Tim graciously inquired, "have you done any kind of repair work on your boards before?" I said I have not. He then was very encouraging and said I should try and do the work. It is labor intensive, and I could learn for future repairs. I ride trees and backcountry a lot. Tim then told me what to buy and hooked me up with metal grind and p-tex for free. Well, after a few YouTube videos and buying my own tune kit, I finished the repairs and tune today and it turned out so good! Even though I didn't get anything serviced at Tim's shop, he was cool and "taught me how to fish." I could have spent the same amount of money to get it fixed at Tim's shop or other, but now I learned a life long skill that is in an industry I love so much. Tim's shop was super busy with tunes and fixes, and I'm sure that's part of the reason he was encouraging for me to take on doing the work. But ultimately, I think he saw someone who is passionate about snowboarding and could learn something really useful. Thanks for the challenge Tim, I might start charging my friends to fix their gear :-) Justin

Listened to the issues I was having it, busted out the screwdriver and diagnosed it on the spot, took it in for a fair price and got it back to me the day we agreed on looking absolutely pristine. And gosh the tune up job was almost too good, I was flying down the slopes, and even traversing catwalks it felt like it just wanted to go. Can't recommend this shop enough. Yes it's a bit more expensive than your big business spots but the peace of mind and clear care for your equipment is worth it to me personally. Will be coming back for all of my maintenance needs.

With a mix of consignment clothing and manufacturer samples, MOTC is a small, local shop with an enticing mix of offerings. Even though the consignment clothing would never count as cheap, every piece appears to be in great shape with no evidence of wear. The sample pieces, still sporting manufacturer tags, also sport a huge discount off their recommended sales price. I picked up a pre-worn, stylish fleece from The North Face for $30 and felt that price was reasonable and returned home to tell my son he should check the place out for the sort of outdoor men's pants he likes. The array of offerings is not dissimilar from what one finds at REI, but on a much smaller scale. There's other outdoor stuff here too - including a proprietor with whom one can engage in for everything fishing related. A no-frills, easy bike rental experience for renting bikes to take onto the Angel Island/Tiburon…read moreFerry and ride the trails on Angel Island. Of course you could also ride around beautiful Tiburon too! Scott helped us get our bikes quickly to make sure we made our 1pm ferry (overall less than 20min), which we greatly appreciated. The shop is just around the corner from where you catch the ferry, so very convenient! The only thing negative which made me dock a star was that both Trek mountain bikes that we rented were in dire need of repair. My husband and I rent bikes often when we travel to places, and this was the first time we ever experienced renting bikes from an actual bike shop that were in bad condition (literally your whole job as a bike shop is to keep bikes in good condition to rent or sell, right?). Almost all the gears kept slipping, and on hilly trails like the ones on Angel Island, this made our bike ride difficult and bit frustrating. Only 3 out of the 21 gears worked properly, and they happened to be 3 high gears, so a few of the steeper inclines were brutal. We laughed it off and just accepted the harder leg workout (haha), but overall this was a bit disappointing. For the record, my husband and I are both athletes who bike, run, hike, and work out regularly, so if we were even having a tough time, I can't imagine what it would have been like for an average leisurely cyclist! So instead of taking the bikes out for 3+ hours, we returned them sooner since they were in such poor condition. Other than that, we still enjoyed exploring Tiburon and Angel Island for the first time on 2 wheels! If you rent here, hopefully your bikes will be in much better condition than ours were.
