Fantastic little place. I've taken my kids to eat here half a dozen times for lunch or dinner and…read morewe've felt welcome and well looked after, and the food is consistently great. It's handy that you can order both Korean food (the bimbimbap and Korean fried chicken are excellent) alongside the 'mr rameN ramen menu, and poke options also, so we've all found things we love.

Today we ordered 3 things on their menu and I'm giving them 5 stars because of their potential. As…read morea Korean American I can sense they're trying to target/match the American taste buds rather than traditional Korean. Which is okay, I love fusion but when I'm looking for it. Being a local I was hoping for a more traditional Korean style meal due to their name and logo but was pleasantly surprised with their combinations. I can see how some people could be disappointed because their name and logo doesn't match their cooking. Here's my take on the 3 meals. Spicy Pork Kimbap: I would say, out of the 3 this was the best and one of the best, if not THE best kimbap we've had in NJ. The sizes were huge, my husband was very happy. Lol Absolutely recommend. Bulgogi (spicy) rice bowl/cup bap: The combination of the beef, veggies, and rice was very good and balanced. I would like to see more veggies next time because the beef alone was very salty. I would order again. Would be even happier if they made the sauce more traditional and less salty. Bulgogi (spicy) box: We had to make more rice at home lol. I would not order this again, rather get the rice bowl. Like I said above, the meat alone is salty and in the box the beef is about 90% with a small side a rice and salad. Fast service, clean space, would get again for a quick meal, would not order with Korean guests over.

However, we do love Korean food and search it out from Connecticut to Delaware. In fact, I love Korean food so much that, while I'm a vegetarian, I will always try the Korean BBQ when we find a new place (sorry cows). Follow up visits, I go back to tofu options. Anyway, Seoul Express is more like the newer casual type of KFood that's become very common in the NY metro. Geared towards takeout with just a couple of tables, the menu is paired down to bowl style meals with mainly Korean flavors, with a few other options thrown in--such as poke bowls. My husband and I got the Japchae (sweet translucent noodles with vegetables and bulgogi beef and the Dolsot (hot stone) Bibimbap which is an option if you eat in. Both were excellent. The Japchae was very much more of a commercial American taste than a traditional sit down old school K restaurant--if you've ever had it at a BonChon Chicken you know what I mean. But the hot stone bibimbap was amazing. Exactly like my favorite version of the dish ever at a small family Korean restaurant in a Parsippany strip mall that unfortunately didn't survive Covid. The accompanying goojujang (spicy red mixing sauce) comes in a small takeaway container but they're happy to give you more if you're the type who likes to squirt half the ketchup bottle of the stuff into your bibimbap (like me). Bergen county has amazing KFood options and we drive there all the time from Hunterdon County just to get some. Seoul Express just put Passaic County on the KFood map. And being casual, the prices are reasonable. You have no excuse not to try it.

Solid local sushi spot with a chill vibe…read more Sushi and Sashimi Special ($75) - This party platter comes with 12 pieces of sushi, 18 pieces of sashimi, 6 piece spicy tuna naruto roll, and 6 piece california roll. I think it would be enough to feed 2 people, but if you have more than that, you probably want to order another roll or two. Everything here was pretty good. The fish seemed average freshness. The naruto roll was unique with cucumber around the outside, though the tuna was not really spicy. I specifically thought the sea bream (white fish) sashimi was good, as it had a creamy taste and consistency. Julie Roll ($15) - This roll was delicious, with a nice combo of yellowtail, salmon, and tuna in one roll. In addition, there was mango for some sweetness, avocado, and cucumber in there. It was topped with red fish eggs and had a soy wrapper around it, which made it a little unique. Beauty and Beast Roll ($15) - This is sort of a 2-in-1 roll, as half of the pieces have tuna on top and half have avocado on top. There is also shrimp tempura inside along with cucumber and eel. Another tasty roll. The restaurant has a very chill vibe inside. There were a couple others dining in as well for Sunday lunch. The staff are super friendly and even gave us a side of edamame on the house. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, if you are in the mood for some sushi (either dining in or take-out), I think Nigiri Sushi would be a very good option, particularly if you are in the Franklin Lakes area.
