Fireweed doesn't have any flavor. So I guess if you don't like sweet stuff get that one. They don't let you sample, which is crazy when they have such unique flavors that you don't know if you're going to like. read more

Oh boy was it a crazy hot day today. Ice cream hit the spot. Never had Huckleberry so we tried that and it was pretty darn good. I suggest you get a scoop of that. Also got the Moose Tracks and that had some big yummie chocolate pieces. If you like chocolate, then that will suffice. You had your choice of a cup, waffle cone or regular cone. Staff members were super nice. Service was quick. Sit outside and enjoy the fun signage they have out front. Turn around and enjoy the views too. read more

Just had the best espresso I've had in Alaska; and I'm a Cuban American that takes his espresso seriously! The young ladies running the shop we're very friendly, the hot chocolate was rich and the fresh made donuts were amazing! You must stop here while at Denali. read more

Went to check out the fireweed ice cream ask for taste, but they don't give them. The flavor of the ice cream is a little like vanilla with lavender very light but in the end, I didn't like it. The kids had a couple of different options and they enjoyed both. I pulled one Star for not offering examples of the ice cream. I ended up not finishing all of mine. Boy it was a long day of touring the Chena river in Fairbanks on the discovery 3 and another 2 and half hour drive down the road to Denali. Me and the family were super exhausted and wanted a treat. Fortunately this place was so great. I never had huckleberry ice cream before but it was a nice sweet surprise and it paired great with the cookies and cream ice cream. This ice cream and coffee place had a mix of local and non local flavors. They had several berry flavors as well as fireweed. It's worth noting however that any locally made flavor (including some without berries) is subject to a $1 up charge. The person behind the counter couldn't hear me and answered a question I didn't ask. I was asking about getting two flavors and the person started telling me what fireweed is (which I already knew since I'd been in Alaska for a week at that point). I wanted to try more than one flavor but they don't do half scoops (and two scoops of the locally made flavors would have cost at least $9.50). I just got the huckleberry. The portion was huge and the flavor/texture of the ice cream was good. They were slow to give me change but thanked me for my patience. Mostly this place is just a big counter ambiance wise. There was none and they were anticipating an order to arrive. Thanked them and planned to check back later today. About, 12:30 pm, me and a friend walked in the shop. My family had just purchased ice cream and left. I inquired about Huckleberry flavor and was informed there was none. I asked the "Asian male" employee if I could sample, the caramel...., but before I could finish asking, he rudely cut me off to emphatically say "we don't give samples!" and left counter. Now really, at this point, I should have walked out. (Instead of, we do give samples, may I serve you something else, or someone else will be with you). However, the two female employees, were most pleasant and therefore, I asked to take my order. I stated, "I wonder if he is the owner with this behavior." Before we walked out, a group of about 5 "white" males walked in and the "male" employee appeared to the counter, enthusiastically asking, "Hello, how's everyone doing today?" My friend and I, quickly locked eyes, in "disbelief", of the male employee's switch in character change? This act said to us, there is indeed "different treatment" for "select customers." I've cream was yummy and portions were generous. Staff was polite and patient which can be difficult in a heavily touristy area.

It's ok. This was the only ice cream place nearby and was fine for a fix. There were 2 folk working, both spoke very minimal English so ordering wasn't simple but we managed. The guy scooping ice cream also failed to pass my standard for proper food handling. Touching his face multiple times, handing money, and grabbing cones bare handed without any hand washing - gross. In Alaska, ice cream seems to be served undersized and overpriced. Denali Dancer's smallish "small" was $2.75, and my mini "medium" was $3.75. At least it was served quickly and with a smile. With all the glaciers around, maybe I should open a shaved ice stand. At tourist prices, I'd make a pretty good summer income. read more

Conveniently located across the street from the major hotels in Denali National Park, this ice cream parlor has about 20 different flavors. Earlier during this late-July day they seemed to do a pretty brisk amount of business with a steady stream of tourists. My brother and I stopped by around 10PM under the bright Alaskan Summer sky. The service was very fast and friendly. I sampled the huckleberry and Maui Wowie flavors, both of which were very good. My brother ordered a one scoop huckleberry ($3.75) on a waffle cone (+$1). When I saw the size of the scoop, I asked if I could get two half scoops instead of one big scoop. He said that it was no problem and honored my request at no extra charge. So, I ordered a waffle cone with huckleberry and black cherry. It was delicious and really hit the spot after an evening of river rafting. This little ice cream shop is located in the busy Denali National Park strip mall located across from the Princess Wilderness Lodge on the Parks Hwy. Since it is the only ice cream shop within probably 100+ miles, they had a pretty big crowd the day we came. There is a wide variety of flavors, especially many berry flavors. The ice cream itself is very creamy and almost makes you forget you are in the states. However, the prices are pretty high, to the point where they charges us for an extra spoon. A waffle cone by itself was around $3 extra. The workers are all from Eastern Europe, and while I have found most to be quite pleasant, these were pretty impatient and careless. Overall, the ice cream is good, but the service and prices just don't cut it. But hey, when you're the only place that serves ice cream in the area, you pretty much have the right to charge whatever you want. read more

The staff was interestingly rude: the couple ahead of us were foreigners and took a few more moments to ponder their selections. The young man tending to them blatantly expressed his impatience then proceeded to make a sly remark to the young lady at the cash register in a foreign language (Russian?) and smirk before impatiently asking for the couples' *immediate* selection which they did their best to provide in part because the gentleman wanted to leave. My parents and I should have left then too but instead Mom wanted her ice cream and pointed to the incorrect flavor (she didn't have her glasses on). The same young man made fun of her obvious mistake and once again made a sly remark to the cashier in a foreign language. I should have asked for a manager.
