DenArt Body Painting Studio was one of the most amazing, romantic experiences my wife and I have done together. The setting is small, intimate, and genuinely comfortable. It was just us and one other couple, which made it feel personal without being awkward. The whole vibe was playful, relaxed, and surprisingly connecting as a couple. Painting was an absolute blast. Neither of us would claim to be artists (our "skills" definitely left a lot to be desired), but that honestly made it even more fun because there was zero judgment. Everyone was laughing, experimenting, and just enjoying the moment. Based on reviews, we decided to be a little brave with what we wore and both brought beige thongs. I'll be honest, I was nervous at first, but that feeling faded almost immediately. The environment felt respectful and safe, and it quickly became exciting instead of intimidating. Danny was incredible and made the night. He started by walking us through basic design ideas and how the paint works, using a model he had with him to demonstrate. That was the perfect way to ease in and learn the basics. Then he turned us loose to do our own thing, and he was the right mix of helpful and hands-off--there when you needed guidance, but never hovering. And once we got going, we fully leaned into it. We left absolutely covered in paint--in the best way. We took full advantage of the available "canvas," and it turned into this hilarious, sexy, creative experience that felt both playful and romantic. Pro tip: bring wine. It helped with those initial nerves and honestly elevated the whole experience into something even more fun and romantic. The location itself is a small space, but it was perfect for what this is--cozy, private, and not distracting. We were about 20 minutes late because our Uber broke down on the way, but it worked out perfectly as the other couple showed up at the same time, and Danny was gracious about it. If you're looking for a unique date night that's intimate, creative, and genuinely memorable, DenArt is absolutely worth it. WHAT a fantastic date night - one of the best ever, and we've been together for nearly 30 years! The UV Paint in the Dark for couples class was recommended to me by a co-worker. We're so glad that she did!! We've been married for over 25 years. Both of us thought that this was one of the most fun and unique dates nights that we've ever had. Danny was fantastic. The atmosphere is very low key and fun. My wife was a bit apprehensive before we got there. As soon as she met Danny and the event started she was relaxed, smiling, laughing and having fun. I was as well. I had no idea that my wife had such artistic ability. Her art was amazing. It was great fun to learn about this talent of my wife's after all of these years! We'd highly recommend to any couple to try this. It's fun, creative, totally non-judgmental (of art or bodies), relaxed and romantic. It makes for a very different, off-beat, spicy, fun and romantic date night! You'll treasure the experience and the pics and videos. I can only imagine how much fun that it will be for us to look back on the photos and videos for years to come. Danny is happy to help with the designs and ideas or to just let you create. A few things to offer for those who do this: We both came up with ideas for our designs in advance. We'd recommend this so that time is not spent trying to figure this out once the event starts. We suprised each other with our ideas. We both loved each other's designs. As the description notes, people are free to wear as much or as little (though website says not totally nude in the group class) as they like. That said, the designs really are best w/minimal clothing. Underwear that covers the least possible, especially of the butt, is best to allow for the most art possible. While topless makes for the best art, if the ladies want to wear pasties, the smallest and thinnest ones possible will flow best with the art. Definitely bring some wine (or get it there). The photos come out amazingly well! Those like us, who may not be in their 20s, should be relieved to know that the lighting - and especially the photos - are very complimentary to one's body. The design really pops, the skin is really dark in the background - all of which is very flattering in black light and photos/videos. Bring some loose clothes so that you can get back home or to your hotel and preserve the designs. We ordered a cheap UV light to have in our hotel to enjoy the designs once we got back. It was such a shame to wash them off. We think that this would be great for both new couples and those who've been together for decades. We have already planned to come to NY for another long weekend. We can't wait to do this again! read more

What a disastrous experience. My boyfriend and I recently got engaged and thought this would be a fun experience. We booked the 6p class on a Friday night (rush hour and a Friday night in NYC IS HORRENDOUS keep in mind) it took us over an hour for us to get here only to find out the class was cancelled because they didn't even book the venue and another person had rented this time slot. They sent an email at 5:40 saying the class was cancelled, sorry for the inconvenience. I'm fuming at this point. A refund just doesn't cut it. Over a 2 hour drive to and from for nothing. Never again and a total f'ing waste of time. read more

Note: This review is specifically for the Glow in the Dark painting session held in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. "Are you here for the body painting?" This was a surprise date night for me from my boyfriend so while standing in what looked to be an adapted photo studio, I had no idea what to expect. We were one of three couples, which I think is the perfect size for this activity. 3-5 is great, allowing you to chat, share ideas, laugh about your attempts to paint in the dark, but not too many to feel crowded. This is definitely an intimate activity, excellent for couples, but make sure you are comfortable with other couples in the room! We were clearly instructed that we could go topless if we wanted, but not entirely nude and could of course remain clothed if we preferred. There was a table set with plenty of glowing paints and brushes for our creativity and the instructor offered to help with ideas. He was a wonderful artist himself and even painted one of the girl's back on request. As others have mentioned, I recommend bringing a bottle of wine etc, for the two hours in the studio - they were kind enough to provide some chocolates to nibble on while we painted. In the end, I was quite pleased with our creations, the only shame is that you have to eventually wash it all off! Also, remember to wear clothes that you don't mind getting the paint on. While it seems to wash out pretty easily, you don't shower before leaving the studio! read more

Even though I rescheduled my appointment about three times, Danny was as gracious as ever when my girlfriend and I had our hour long non-nude session. Danny greeted us at the door and offered us water and a place to sit while we waited for him to finish up another client. It didn't take long for Danny to create a masterpiece on my girlfriend's back but mine required a little more attention. Within the hour we were both being directed in a photo shoot, individually and together. It was very nice that Danny let us shoot together, because the sessions were individual. I purchased a groupon for a bodypainting experience at DenArt awhile back and found out i was pregnant shortly after. DenArt was kind enough to push back the expiration date just a bit so i could do the experience when i was 8months pregnant so i would have a big round belly which i thought would be cool in shoot. I cant say enough how happy i am with the images. We did the tree of life which i thought would be ideal for pregnancy and the artist was incredible. The painting was perfect and exceeded my expectations. All of the staff was courteous and helpful. The photo shoot was wonderful. They were able to capture tons of great shots which i had to choose from off the CD i received. All in all I found the experience well worth the money spent and i highly reccomend to anyone looking for a unique experience. Thank you Danny and staff! read more

All I can say is WOW. I purchased a body painting and photography session as a gift for my husband for our 10th anniversary. I was going to be in NY for a very limited time and even though he was really busy, Danny worked with my schedule. He and his asst were really kind and easy going, very important since you'll be nude during the entire session. They were quick and fun to work with. The painting took way less time than I thought. Half-way through they let me look in the mirror and I got teary. It was so beautiful and the adjustments Danny made so the image fit my body were even better than the original painting! Then he took like 800 photos! We played music and just had a great time. I forgot I was nude by the end of it. The final product was an amazing shot that I'm sure my husband will love. Go see Danny! Tried this for the first time.I was apprehensive about the experience, but Danny was AHHmazing. Making the appointment online was seamless and the communication before, about the design concept and preparation, was clear, direct, and collaborative. Though the design was his own ideas, he allowed me to inspire and the result was beautiful. I say that not simply because it was me, on my body, but the detail and spirit the work captured was breathtaking. I highly recommend @denartnyc. He explained the process and materials, then went through his plan for the design. The studio was quiet and he worked deliberately, aware and attentive to the strains of standing for an hour, making time for me to work out whatever stiffness might occur (though I didn't have any problems, as I was surprisingly quite relaxed). During the photo shoot portion Danny gave directions on poses, as I had no clue, and he took multiple shots under different lighting conditions and just made sure he got a broad a range of the art's expression. I kept the image for hours after, and regretted the shower that washed it all away. Removal was, sadly, very easy: it rinsed away. I'd had this on my list for some time, waiting to find the right artist. I traveled to NYC and am glad I did. Within a week, I got to view the images and choose prints. What else can I say, except if you are considering this don't hesitate and definitely give Danny a call. read more

This was one of the most fun, unique experiences I've ever had. I wasn't nervous about getting painted or being nude, but I was VERY nervous about how the actual pictures would turn out, since I am not photogenic at all and have never done a shoot like this before. Well, the pictures turned out amazing! The setup is very relaxed. They gave me a few drinks to help me relax, put on some fun music, and encouraged me to just dance and move around while they photographed. This was the best time that I have ever had naked in front of strangers! Last year I saw a Living Social deal for the body painting/photo shoot package and immediately convinced my boyfriend to get painted with me. We finally went last night and it was awesome! First, I would like to say that I am not an exhibitionist in any way. I am the girl at the gym wearing two towels to cover top and bottom who would get dressed in the locker if she could. So I was expecting to be a little uncomfortable about being naked. NERP!!! The two artisits were great, at no point was I uncomfortable, they both did excellent work, and the atmosphere was light and fun. Also to my suprise, my BF was comfortable too. I got Starry Night painted on my front and my BF got the Koi on his back. It was truly a great experience that we will repeat in the future. read more

Great experience! The booking process by email with Katerina was easy and smooth, she was excellent about giving info and advice and always quick to respond. I was painted by Danny and a student assisting him, Kayra (hope i'm spelling her name right...) they were amazing! They made me comfortable from the very beginning (must say i was a little apprehensive about standing half naked for hours and posing in front of a camera...). I had provided just a photo of the design i wanted painted on me and they did a wonderful job, it looked exactly as i had hoped. The photoshoot was super fun, even though i had no idea how to pose, they gave me tips and pointers. Danny even took photos of me with my fiancé who was observing the session. He took more than 300 and i was able to view them online just a few days later. I kept the painting on for a few hours till evening, and was actually sad to have to wash it off... (for those who might worry about having trouble to get it off, don't, because it came off easily with just water, some soap and light scrubbing) I definitely recommend going, you won't regret it! read more

Originally signed up for the Art on Live Canvas workshop but I think not enough people signed up it was canceled. (The website states there's a 3 couple minimum.) However, we were offered a free upgrade to the Paint in the Dark class later that evening so we went. FYI the studio is a shared space with another company, but we went to a private curtained room for the class. It was a really intimate session which I liked. Besides my bf, only one other girl and the instructor (Danny) were there. Danny did a quick rundown of the materials we'd be working with then let us paint for the rest of the time. Listening to music while painting someone's body in the dark was a really cool and relaxing experience. We could expose as little or as much of ourselves as we felt comfortable with. I also really appreciated how we also weren't rushed out of the studio at he end of the two hours. He let us take our time finishing our work, letting ourselves look at each other's pieces, and taking pictures. Extremely laidback and welcoming guy. You simply must experience this!!! I saw this offer on Living Social...and I didn't hesitate to grab it for even one second, and I am SO glad that I was able to experience this opportunity. I picked the Persistence of Memory piece to be painted on my front and Gulya truly transformed me into a work of art. She was personable, skilled and did an incredible job with the painting...she knew just how to customize the original painting to my brown skin tone and body type. I was honored to be her canvas! And the photo shoot portion...what can I say...the pictures came out fantastic. She made me feel comfortable, gave great direction, had me try poses that complimented my body and features and took nearly 450 shots (all of which I got on a disk at the end!). I couldn't wait to show those beautiful pictures off to my friends and family, who all complimented on how incredible they were...and how they envied that at 41 years of age, I was so open to do this (In fact, the quality of the pictures had many saying that I should have been a model!). It was easily one of the best things I have experienced and would do it again...in fact I plan on doing it again!!! read more
