For anyone interested, I recommend reading Breathe by James Nestor to understand how important airways are. Before seeing Dr. Quo and Dr. Schron, I suffered from debilitating chronic migraines, severe pain, light sensitivity, nausea. And I got terrible headaches when flying or at high altitudes. Scans showed I had very narrow airways, and I was nearly CPAP intolerant. After starting MSE (Maxillofacial Skeletal Expansion), the difference was almost immediate. My CPAP pressure has dropped from 9 to 4, and I'm hopeful I won't need a CPAP when expansion is complete. Even more amazing, I had no headache on my first night during two recent trips to Lake Tahoe--something that used to be miserable because of the altitude. Two things that could be improved at the practice are communication and education about the process. I later found a helpful video online that explained MSE and its benefits in a nutshell, and that would have been nice to see earlier because it was a bit of a leap of faith for me--but it worked out. There was also a logistical issue when I was notified two days before my procedure that the MSE device had not arrived yet. It was disappointing and inconvenient since we had already made arrangements, but I appreciated that they were able to complete the installation later that same week. Overall, Mid Peninsula Orthodontics has been a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable practice, and this treatment has truly been life-changing for me. I am very grateful to Dr Quo and Dr Schron and their team for the important work they do!

I was very disappointed with my experience with Mid-Peninsula Orthodontics, particularly regarding…read morethe cost and transparency surrounding access to my child's orthodontic records. We paid a $40 consultation fee for the initial visit, during which X-rays and photographs of my child were taken. After the consultation, I contacted the office to request digital copies of those X-rays and photographs. I was shocked to be told that I would need to pay an additional $145 for the digital X-ray and $100 for the digital photographs--a total of $245 just to receive digital copies of the records. That is on top of the $40 consultation fee we had already paid. What concerns me most is that I do not recall being informed before the X-rays and photographs were taken that there would be an additional $245 charge if I wanted digital copies afterward. Had this been clearly communicated beforehand, it would have been important information in deciding whether to have the imaging done there. I have asked the office to provide an itemized explanation of how the $145 and $100 fees were calculated, particularly since I am only requesting the existing X-ray and photographs electronically by email--not new imaging, additional interpretation, printing, or preparation of a medical summary. As a parent, I expect transparency about fees, especially when they concern access to my child's own medical and orthodontic records. I am sharing my experience so other parents know to ask in advance not only about consultation and treatment costs, but also how much the office will charge if you later need copies of your child's X-rays, photographs, or other records.

After years of knowing many many doctors and growing up in a family of doctors, I can say Merna…read moreTajaddod is the worst personal interaction I had with a medical professional that lasted years. We started out great, I was looking to fix some minor misalignment with my front teeth with a major crossbite problem. I wasn't willing to go for braces even though it is recommended, I had good terms with my dental insurances with invisalign so I thought I would give it a shot. Merna Tajaddod was honest, told me there is about 70% chance we can fix the issue of crossbite with invisalign and she recommended braces. I said let's give invisalign a try, it is ok if we don't make it. She was honest, I had very low expectations, and we decided to give it a shot. So we started off great. Going through the treatment it felt like the minor issues were getting fixed pretty quickly, but the crossbite was having a hard time moving but I was generally happy. After a couple of sets and about 1 1/2 year of treatment I figured I should ask what Merna Tajaddod thinks about our chances now that we have tried invisalign for a bit now, and see if there is more we can do. That is when the whole relationship took a downturn, she immediately became defensive and blamed me for not wearing the aligners. I was, and I wasn't really trying to assign blame and I reminded her that we discussed this going in and I accept if we don't get results we want, and that all I was asking was her thoughts and plan. That conversation was cut short in an abrupt manner as she walked away. Bear in mind at this point I was only trying to get an answer as to whether continuing with the invisalign will fix the crossbite or not, because it is very tedious and I didn't want to continue for nothing. Since I wasn't getting answers, I decided to ask other orthodontists about what they think. They said while it is hard to know for certain without going into treatment, there are things that can be tried and the doctor at this point should know whether or not her treatment plan is going to work. Here lies the biggest problem with Merna Tajaddod is a self esteem issue rooted very deep. That causes problem if you enter into a negative feedback loop or there is anything in the conversation other than "Doctor, you are the best thing that ever happened to me.". It was easy to see from the beginning since she signs all her communication as if she were the queen of Andals. Even the aligner cleaner, which is a $5 cheap piece of plastic, says Harvard graduate. Forget about the fact that her degree from Harvard is Oral Biology, I really couldn't care about a degree unless they can clearly communicate their treatment plan with their patients. After that last interaction, I think I got blacklisted because I barely got 3 minutes of face time with Merna Tajaddod in the next 1.5 years during my visits. Every request I made for a chat was turned town by the receptionist Betty who I have had to make medical conversations since. Towards the end of the treatment I had a comical experience with the receptionist which is in line with my other conversations I had (word by word): - R: We need you to check how much your insurances paid out your treatment. - Me: Why, is there a problem? Did they reject a claim? - R: We don't know. We just need you to check with them. - Me: Pardon me but I don't understand what I am supposed to check, I know that you stopped submitting claims more than a year ago I assumed the payments were done. - R: We just need to you to check and pay the amount they haven't paid out. - Me: Did they not pay out something? Do you know the amount they paid you so far? - R: We don't know how much they paid us, we just need you to call them. - Me: I apologize I didn't know I was responsible for doing your accounting for the duration of the treatment. I will get to it right away. This should give you a flavor of conversations I had with Merna Tajaddod and people on her staff. What I learned from 3.5 years of experience with Merna Tajaddod is that you shouldn't really expect compassion or transparent communication, especially when things are not progressing as optimal. The place runs like a factory, and what I assume is that if your case is trivial enough Merna Tajaddod is happy to offer her cookie cutter solution and solve your problem as long as you don't cause problems. If you need expertise, personal care, or if you think you will have any concerns during your treatment, I suggest strongly look for other orthodontists.

I encountered several issues. 1) The Dr. was dismissive of my concerns and avoidant when I asked questions. I wore a night guard before and inquired several times on several occasions about getting a retainer that is suitable for teeth grinding. Every time, I was told my problem wasn't severe. Now I have a cracked tooth and had to get a crown. So what exactly qualifies as "severe"? IMO this is negligent. 2) From the moment I walked in and every visit thereafter, the Dr reminded me that he would have made more money if I came to him directly instead of through the Invisalign store. I likely wouldn't have come at all if not for the Invisalign store, so if you have a problem with it then maybe don't accept these types of patients to begin with. 3) They never gave me a preview of how my teeth would look at the end, or even how long the treatment would take. At the end, they fixed a lot of my crooked teeth but couldn't really change the one that I wanted changed. 4) They are only in the office 3 days a week which makes it near impossible to get in if you are a working adult. I wasn't going to post this review because I thought I might have to come back here, but based on their hours that's unlikely.

Dr. Lee took a much more thoughtful approach and explained that my asymmetry was not severe enough to require surgery, and that it could be treated with a nonsurgical camouflage approach instead. That was a huge relief, and I really appreciated how clearly and honestly he explained my options. What also stood out to me was how detail-oriented he was throughout the process. I never had to point anything out myself because he would notice even small things and continue making adjustments until everything looked right. The results turned out great, and most people cannot even tell that I have any noticeable asymmetry. I'm very happy with my new smile and very grateful to Dr. Lee.
