I was so disappointed with Bruce and Denison Landscaping. May 22, 2024 Bruce came by to take photos so I could get an estimate for irrigation system. Unfortunately I did not hear from Bruce for some time. Bruce finally text me back june 3rd and stated the following, "Hey, John, sorry for the delay. Frankly the quality of the grass that you have there scares Me a little bit so we will not be providing a quote for this work. It is superior, 4 inch of lush. The best I've seen." I've asked others if they've ever heard of a company providing this excuse, and of course no one has. I can understand why the company has poor review. I would not recommend your company for anything. read more

There professional licensed landscaper spec'd out 15 trees planted within 2 ft. of sidewalks and street curbs(street) in Hanover, MD. Clearly a "no no" as canopy will span into street in 5 years and require substantial side trimming to maintain clearance for vehicle traffic. Also in 15-30 years the tree root system will likely damage sidewalks and curb as the tree placement is too close. This is clearly ill-advised tree placement and wonder why people pay for this. I thought these people are supposed to be licensed professionals doing landscape design. read more

Pros: Pavers are gorgeous. Irrigation is great. Perennials are beautiful. Construction went smooth. Cons: Andrea (the project coordinator and main point of contact) promised many things that turned out to be false or inaccurate. She said the polysand does not give way. But they do. She said weed or grass does not get into the polysand and grow. But they do. She said that if I ever have problems, I can always call them and they'll come out. They do so but begrudgingly. They will hem and haw. You have to call them repeatedly. Had to involve her supervisor (James Tiribio). And when he proved to be equally unresponsive, spoke to his manager, James Denison. Denison also proved to be useless. It became quickly apparent that Denison does not know how to read emails or is intentionally ignoring them. Rather, he seems to only be concerned about profit. Eventually, Denison says that he will stop providing residential services in my area. How convenient! Recommendation: Go with someone else for residential. This company is good at the start, and then fizzles at delivery and follow-up. read more

Denison did the landscaping for our new house, hired by the builder. My tree died almost immediately and they said they would replace it, but after many emails they never did replace it or get back to me. The landscaping beds were also not very nice, same unattractive bush was planted over and over and several also died. I had expected something more beachy, but, the tree upsets me most of all. I was injured in a car accident by one of their drivers while crossing New York Ave. I was in the far right lane headed towards K street. Their driver refused to tell the insurance company that he ran into my car; which I have video from the accident scene where he admitted it. The police was not called because the driver did not want any issues with documents; for the sake of his passengers. He gave me the company's insurance info, and his license. However, the insurance company did not accept liability. Leaving me with thousands in doctor bills, and repairs. read more

Part One: We decided to call Dennison. Seeing some of their work previuosly, we were looking forward to a well planned and executed project. Once the landscape architect, Zach, arrived he immediately listened to our concerns about our yard and then asked what we would like to have done as well. He mapped out a plan for our yard, gave us options, and helped us prioritize. We liked the plan but knew we had to wait to start on a part of it because of utility work on the house too. Zach got us in sooner on the other part of the work not affected by the utility work and needless to say, we are VERY pleased. Did I tell you he listened to us? Our many questions and emails were responded to promptly and his answers were clear. The work so far is beautiful. I will keep you all posted about the final outcome of our project. read more

Would give zero stars if allowed. I have never, really NEVER encountered anything like the "customer service" at this company. I have also never written a review like this. But this company has pushed me to the limits. Each time you call you are treated with the utmost disrespect and outright contempt. One of the employees just accused me of lying! (I was not) and screamed at me until I finally hung up on her- which is also something I seldom do. Look, I feel like a real "Karen" writing this but these people are HORRIBLE. I live in a community where Denison is the irrigation provider. They have a lock on this work and they know we are helpless to retaliate so they just treat us like the very dirt they water. We have to deal with them and each time we do it is a nightmare. Your calls are never returned. I have left message after message and they never call back. When you do reach them they argue with you. Each time I have attempted to discuss anything with them their go to response is to threaten to void my warranty. What? Why? They talk over you and do not let you get a word in edgewise. Amazing. I had numerous estimates done for a multi-piece project for our back yard and we decided to go with Denison 2 of the 3 pieces: new patio and sod. First, Zach. Zach was an incredible project manager from start to finish. He was such a pleasure to work with! He was extremely responsive, thorough and patient despite my constant questions. The epitome of great customer service! Second, the work. Zach's team was friendly, efficient, professional, hard working, and did an amazing job transforming our backyard! Denison installed my lawn as a sub-contractor of my builder. They did a horrible job and of course - no warrant on lawns. Gee I wonder why. I see them working on the lawns at Peninsula lakes- buyer beware, you'll probably have to spend more money on the lawns. Sad that inferior workmanship is acceptable by this so called company. Despite the response from Denison, we have been trying over 5 months to make an appt with them but nobody from this company feels responsible to fix the issues. In fact about two months later Denison made some repairs on the lot next to us and demolished our yard without our permission. In another case when trying to plant some shrubs on the front yard garden, we found a 5'x2' wood panel right beneath the mulch. See the pictures. read more

After having so many people we knew recommend Denison, I was shocked at how poorly we were treated by this company as customers. We had Denison come out to give us a design for our front and back yards. We paid the design fee and they provided us with a beautiful plan for the front patio area which we agreed to move forward on. They gave us a contract and requested a deposit. Before we signed the contract we had Denison's rep meet with our ironwork contractor to ensure the design would work with the fence we were installing. Everything seemed great, we signed the contract, paid them the deposit. They told us they would immediately apply for the permits, and as soon as the permits were approved they would be able to start work (estimated to take 2-4 days to complete). After that we received NO communication from the company for 4 weeks. After more than a dozen phone calls and emails to our project manager went unreturned, we looked up the permit status with DC government. No permit had been issued, or even applied for. Finally, we emailed the owner of the company and got a response from him saying that he would look into it. We had a signed contract, they took our deposit, and then they ghosted on us. This whole ordeal ended up costing us thousands of dollars in damages that were the result of them not performing the work outlined in the contract, and the front yard still isn't done. I am a realtor and have even recommended them to many of my clients, and now I wish I hadn't. They have, so far, shown no interest in making this right or doing the work in the contract. Really bizarre dealing with this company - I wrote the review below, Zach got in touch with me and was super apologetic, promising to resolve as had been previously discussed, lots of back-and-forth, then radio silence for over a month. Making unfulfilled promises seems to be a pattern with this company.... REVIEW While I can't speak to the actual service this company provides, I can speak to their sod installation process and complete lack of follow-through on commitments they make. I had a new house built next to mine and Denison was in charge of installing the sod. I thought nothing of it until I came home from work one day and found they had placed 2 pallets of sod on my driveway, causing damage to it, and further using it to maneuver their bobcat. I emailed them and Jame was really great about telling me he was sorry and all the things they were going to do to fix it. However, he wasn't great at actually doing all the things he said he was going to do - 4 months later and still radio silence. I don't know if that's how they treat paying customers, damage their property then commit to fixing it and just never follow through, but that's been my experience. read more

Denison installed the irrigation at my Schell home when I moved to Lewes 4 years ago. Every spring I have to call, email Denison repeatedly to have the sysyem turned on in the spring and off in the fall. This year was the same. No call back or response and my grass was burned to a crisp due to the hot weather this week. I found some one else, who actually answered the phone when I called and came out the NEXT day, which was a Sunday!! I will Never use Denison again!! read more

Unless you are a big business don't waste your time. Apparently they only care about large contracts. Ordered a tree (over $200.00) and paid to have it delivered and planted since they said if they do it, they guarantee it for a year. Delivery day came and went and never heard from them. Called, and after. 45 minute run around,I was told to call back Monday to see where my order was. I said no I'll be in tomorrow to get my money back. No apologies, no sorry for the inconvenience, nothing. I'll never give them a penny of my money again. They are incompetent and don't care about residential customers at all. read more

She has a good eye for design and planning, and has never steered me wrong. They provide excellent service and work within the budget I specify. In May of this year, at the suggestion of the builder, I had Denison Landscaping come to my house to move a few sprinkler heads since I had a fence installed in the property after the house was built. I also asked them to relocate another few heads because I felt that the original installation did not provide enough coverage. The technician moved some of the heads and did not move others telling me to he would come back later if I still felt that way. Sometime later, I received a bill for the service: $329.42 About three weeks later, I had Denison Landscaping come back to the house to move the sprinkler heads I had asked them to move earlier and to move a couple of more that I had missed before. Sometime later, I received a bill for the service: $828.24! I was absolutely surprised because the service provided during the two visits were not substantially different, so on August 2, 2017, I called Denison in order to try to get better understanding of why I was charged $828.24 for the relocation and installation of a few sprinkler heads. I spoke with someone in accounting and the someone claiming to be the General Manager. The reason I called was simply because I was looking for Denison to check its records in case someone made a mistake. That is all I was looking for. Instead I was met with defiance and defensiveness. I was immediately told "we don't pad our bills", "we don't overbill", and was told repeatedly that we "keep detailed records" of what was done during the call. I have attached a snapshot of the bill breakdown I received. 1. IRRIGATION SERVICE CALL 2. LABOR 1.00 LS 293.00 293.00 3. PARTS 1.00 LS 390.24 390.24 4.. SERVICE FEE 1.00 LS 145.00 145.00 Amount Billed 828.24 Does that look detailed to you? $390.24 in parts? What parts? I have no idea what parts were used during the call and was not told that they would cost this much. I told the technicians every time they showed that I did not want to spend a lot of money on this project since I could do some of the work myself. $293.00 for labor? When did they start? When did they end? That doesn't look detailed to me. I also have a problem with the $145 service fee. This would not have happened if what I asked to be done in the first place had been done. I have never made a complaint like this before but $828.42 for moving and installing a few sprinkler heads is absolutely unacceptable. What bothered me the most is their absolutely refusal to even take another look at the records or talk to the technician to see if a mistake had been made. The fact that both persons went into 100 percent defensive mode at the beginning of the call is very telling on the company's methods of dealing with customer issues. Let this be a warning. I fear how the elderly or vulnerable would fare with Denison Landscaping's predatory billing practices. read more

Karin was our project manager who came out to our home on time and with ideas for our coastal themed crib. We really wanted some coastal grasses that would be low maintenance for us (non-gardening folk). We get so many compliments on the selections that she made. I am more than, pleased. I was disappointed that the Pink Muhly Gasses were not in bloom, but we did get signs of pink in late Septemeber after a few weeks of watering and extra care. read more

He reached out to me to understand my frustrations and then visited our property to perform a full analysis of our yard, trees and plants. He not only identified them, but also provided information on size and growing patterns and also gave recommendations on how best to care for our plants. I now understand there is a big difference between the homebuilder contracting side and the residential service provided. They are completely unreliable. I called for an estimate for removing shrubs and scheduled an appointment. They cancelled the day before and I couldn't get ahold of them to reschedule. When I was finally able to rescheduled, they said that they would come by and call me with an estimate because I didn't really need to be there for it. They never called me back. I also put in a request on their website a while ago for other work and have not heard from them on that either. I can't imagine what it would be like to deal with these people if something went wrong. read more

Where do I begin? They laid a new yard for me, but never laid top soil so as we speak my yard is languishing and dying in the summer heat with no possibility of legitimately taking root. Back when I was delusional (dealing with them for the first time) I even called and emailed them to request a quote to have them do monthly cutting and landscaping services...guess what? No call back or contact (5 months ago). I went in to talk with them face to face and tell them about my yard issues, they had zero answers and the folks running the store said "No problem though, call the owner, here's his phone number." I proceeded to call the owner (John Denison), left lengthy voicemails and explanations about the state of my yard, my plea for help, my willingness to spend money with their business....and guess what? Silence. No phone calls back, no help, they straight up ignore you. This place only makes money because there is no one else in the area who does legit landscaping. Previously, there was a guy that showed up for our sprinkler turn on/off service and was high quality - this occurred for the first 2 years - then over the last 2 years (18/19), the quality has been getting worse. After using these folks recently (Oct/19) on a winterization sprinkler service, the worker left without removing the back-flow pipe as we discussed (and has been done each year by Denison). I put in 8-9 calls into Denison to find out if they could return to solve this and was told that it would be a fee by "Dee Dee". She was rude - wanted to role play the visit from 2 weeks prior for the winterization service to "understand if I worded my request appropriately" + "didn't I think it was unusual the back-flow pipe wasn't handed to me when he swiped my credit card" rather than assuming that I, the customer may be right. Dee Dee requested payment for a return visit and after 15 minutes, she hung up on me and the issue was not solved. I've ensured my neighbors have heard about this pathetic customer experience and I will not return to Denison for any work in the future. Terrible customer experience - I will seek to find a company that drives quality and care - this is purely a category of apathy and laziness. read more

The comments from Josh Dennison of Dennison Landscaping & Nursery dated August 1, 2016 are pure unadulterated balderdash--not a word was true. Their comments were made to try to nullify my previous review (see below) of Dennison concerning their inferior work on a drainage system that does nothing to correct the problem around the patio in my yard. I find it so hard to comprehend why an established company would outright lie about what actually happened. According to Denison they were working within my budget and I declined a significantly more advanced system. The initial Project Manager, Karen, did not discuss a budget with me or tell me her recommendation may or may not be adequate. I accepted what she recommended and felt the price was fair. I recently had a Prince George's County Construction and Standards Inspector come to my house and was advised the French drains are clogged because they were not wrapped with a drain sleeve and the system would have worked better in a bed of stones. Consumers you be the judge. Sorry I was unable to post the photo showing the water standing around the patio after a heavy rain because "A picture is worth a thousand words." PREVIOUS REVIEW: Dennison does not stand by their work or provide good customer service for residential properties. A little over a year ago I hired Dennison to correct a drainage problem around my patio. They removed the old French drain, replaced it with the same type drain and extended it about 8 feet with a pop up. After about a year this work was no longer effective and water was backing up on the patio leading to a sliding door. It came to the point, after a heavy rain as a female almost 80 years old, I had to go out and dig around the drain and the pop up to facilitate the flow of water off the patio. I filed a written complaint late winter of this year at the office and heard nothing. After several trips to the business, I finally received a call and a representative did come to my house. He looked at the area and told me he would have initially recommended a different approach to solve the problem. Another month passed and the excuse was he was waiting for John, the president, to make a decision. After a few more weeks, the representative left a new proposal to extend the drain further and re grade a portion of the yard for an additional $2,000 with no discount or consideration of their previously substandard work. On May 20, 2016 I sent Dennison a certified letter (return receipt requested) expressing my concerns/disappointment; and as of June 27 there has been no response. I noticed other customers have not been treated fairly as well. Why does it have to come to writing bad reviews, going public or taking legal action before the problem is resolved. I wanted to attach a photo of the standing water, however. the site would not permit me to do so. read more

Unbelievably poor customer service, Grossly miscalculated materials cost and asked for additional $5,000! When we declined to pay additional, they finished the job minimally (not to what we contracted) and now our backyard and fence is literally collapsing down our hillside and they refuse to repair, calling it an "Act of God". Our contract was specifically to control water run-off and secure our hillside after installing a pool and now we're left with major erosion and a sinking backyard. Owner refused to come in person to evaluate our concerns, rather told us to sue him! Request granted! read more

Denison recently completed a clean up and grading project on the woods surrounding our 1.5 acre lot. They removed trees, stumps,and undergrowth. The project also included grading to eliminate drainage problems. The entire project took seven work days, four large dump trucks of mulch and the use of a bobcat to grade terrain. They used a four person crew and a project supervisor (Gino DosSantos). The project was completed on time and our lawn where the dump trucks had to enter the woods was repaired. The crew worked tirelessly during the project. They only took short lunch breaks and were always open to minor changes we requested during the work. The administrative staff were professional and easy to work with. Gino was very attentive to our needs and offered several project enhancements. Our property is the talk of the neighborhood and we are totally pleased with the work performed and the cost of the project. We have already begun discussions for a fall makeover of our flower bed by Denison. I would recommend Denison if you want a painless and professional landscape job performed. read more

I have been a customer of Denison for about five years, they contracted with my builder to do my sprinkler system and landscaping back in 2011. From the beginning they were awesome! Dee Dee, one of the managers, has been an absolute delight and an angel each and every time I have called and needed something - most notably when it has been an emergency. Not only is she wonderful to deal with, but she always sends her best guy, Jose, to help me - and he is the BEST! He is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and one of the hardest working guys I have ever met. Jose is very polite and is always willing to stay longer or do more than he was originally supposed to, no matter what. One time he was doing a job and about an hour from completion there was thunder and lightening coming, you could see it and hear it and he stayed to keep working because he wanted to finish the job - most people would have just left and said ill come back tomorrow. He is a stud! And his helper Zeke is awesome too! He is hard working and very helpful as well. This is an overall great company and a true pleasure to deal with each and every time I call them for something. read more

Customer Service does not exist at this company. I had a valid receipt for a landscaping item (bagged mulch), I purchased in 2013 at their Fall Festival Sale. The item was out-of-stock when I bought it, and their operating practice was to allow the customer to pick it up at anytime, on as-needed-basis, as long has they had the receipt. I located the valid item receipt,(with the credit card paperwork attached,which indicated number of bags purchased, the amount I had received and the remaining amount still left to pick up, with the Dension employee name beside the amount remaining to be picked up), but the Denison Store Manager refused to honor it, stating it has been a long time and asking for names of other individuals that worked there during that time. I provided descriptions of individuals, to which the female Store Clerk stated "they have been fired because of theft." I pointed out that the purchase and pick-up-later, on a as-needed-basis was a common procedure at Denison. The Denison Store Manager stated " the Old Owner" retired to North Carolina, and he was not going to honor my receipt. I stated if Denison has changed it's operating practice, they should have informed their customers. The Store Manager claimed he checked his records, which was a few receipts stapled to the wall, and could not find their matching copy of the receipt. He then states "How do I know you didn't pickup the additional bags of mulch." I stated , then I would not have the receipt indicating the number of remaining bags of mulch still to pick up, because when the customer picks up all paid bags, the amount owed is shown as ZERO, and the receipt is taken from the customer. Denison once had high standards for "friendly customer service", but has fallen by the wayside in the last few years. They need to take a few lessons from Nordstrom, unless they will join the bandwagon with Circuit City, Erol's, Luskins and Dart Drugstore. BEWARE a valid receipt means nothing to Denison!!! read more
