Hard to believe there are so many good reviews here because he was one the most unkind and cranky doctors I have ever met.

My family has had the most incredible experiences with OCEAN PEDIATRICS…read more Our forever doctor is Dr. Steven Abelowitz, and we love him. My daughter is always excited to see doctor Steve, for both well visits and sick visits. She says, "doctor steve will make everything better. I want to go see doctor Steve, and only doctor Steve." He is patient, kind, thorough, communicative and very knowledgeable. We feel so confident in his care and are so grateful for how he has gone above and beyond for our family. He has been there for my daughter since birth, and has helped us navigate through major health issues. You never know how great your doctor is until you have an emergency, and we feel blessed to have had our daughter, Allison, under the care of Dr Abelowitz during those difficult times. He has always made sure my child has received the best care, also referring us to excellent specialists when necessary. He has followed up with the referrals and made sure that everyone treating my kid is on the same page. I cannot recommend this office enough. I know my daughter has always received the best care with doctor Abelowitz. In addition to everything stated above, The practice is very organized and I have been very impressed with the ability to make same day appointments and are generally able to see our favourite doctor, Dr. Steven Abelowitz. This review is longer than most as I want to repeat : he is with OCEAN PEDIATRICS. If you're curious as to WHY he is not at Coastal kids (they're to blame for the negative reviews, in my opinion) kindly read this article: https://www.latimes.com/socal/daily-pilot/news/story/2024-08-02/newport-beach-pediatrician-sues-hedge-fund-he-partnered-with-alleges-managers-put-profits-before-patients Don't believe the negative reviews as coastal kids and those running it are the ones who are at fault (this is my opinion, and my opinion alone). The hedge fund currently running coastal kids (Steve's old practice), are putting profits over patients. They forced him out for putting PATIENTS FIRST. This hedge fund in particular seems to NOT care about your child at all, and only focus on the big P: PROFITS. This is why non-professionals (like the entity running coastal kids) should *never* be allowed to partner with professionals. It compromises professional integrity and puts profits over people. Attorneys and doctors are prohibited from partnering with non-attorneys and non-doctors for exactly this reason. Maybe some hedge funds have gotten around it by having doctors as partners. New legislation needs to be passed, prohibiting any organization with a single non-professional partner from this kind of activity. I have been WAITING for Steve to open up a new practice, and am so happy OCEAN PEDIATRICS is OPEN & accepting new patients. My daughter was one of the first- I got her in their system on the day they opened as I completely trust Steve and his amazing staff. That said, If you're want your child to receive the BEST care, call OCEAN PEDIATRICS and make an appointment with doctor Steve Abelowitz.

I am the patient that just left the credit card on file, with insurance or not, I trusted. BETRaYED. They are not in the business of healing, they are in the business of steeling. Keep your receipts, record your phone calls, document your visits. They say the bill insurance and they don't. Then the mistake is found, no apology, just "we will call you back, then the bill magically turns to zero Ya. You can keep your slimy greedy business model for yourself. No longer patient centered. Again. What a shame. Dr abelowitz, though your probably too busy to notice, or read this message, I know medicine has changed, I know I can't expect more then 5-10 minutes after waiting for an hour for a appointment that was made weeks in advance. Why do you continue to grow your business if you are not really trying to be a health care provider anymore. The lines have been blurred for sure. For the prospective patients, do your research, try to see the same Doctor twice, you can't. You will Likely see a PA because that's all they will give you, because they care so much about your kids Try to get strait forward billing, you can't , because they don't know what they are doing either. It's like the blind leading the blind.

First visit of our newborn was fine and he answered all our questions and talked with us about vaccines. 2nd visit he started being a bit confrontational with the pressure of vaccine talk and made us both feel extremely uncomfortable. 3rd visit he turned into a "what's the problem?" and "it's not a good fit". "We don't require it, but we won't see you if you don't get every vaccination" In my opinion he has the wrong tactic of pressuring and making a family feel uncomfortable in order for them to get the vaccines to the T (we only opted to skip rotovirus). Says it's "not a requirement". If this was not a problem and not a requirement why is it "better we part ways"? Be upfront about your requirements and learn how to communicate as a dr properly without the direct pressure. In my humble opinion, being confrontational won't get you places. It doesn't matter who's all praising you or how many babies you see... we chose to take a dr that is a better communicator, patient and explained to us without the uncomfortable confrontation.

Dr. Jones personally said she could squeeze us in the next day specifically due to the concern -- but when we arrived, she dismissed the issue almost immediately. Despite our midwife and even we as parents being able to clearly hear the irregularity through a stethoscope and see it on a pulse ox screen, Dr. Jones insisted that no one could hear (not diagnose but HEAR) an arrhythmia without an EKG. She barely listened for a few seconds and said she couldn't hear anything. Dr. Jones refused to take our concern seriously and ultimately was really rude and arrogant in how she talked to us even though we were understandably concerned and emotional about the situation with our newborn. This was incredibly upsetting, as it was the entire reason for our visit and the only reason we scheduled with her in the first place. Unfortunately, the rest of the visit was equally disappointing. No one greeted us when we arrived, even though Dr. Jones and the receptionist were both sitting at the front desk and appeared unoccupied. We were then kept waiting for 30 minutes past our appointment time. When she finally saw us, she didn't introduce herself, made dismissive and rude remarks about our choices for basic medical decisions, and generally lacked warmth or professionalism. Their billing system is another major issue as other reviewers have emphasized -- they didn't take our copay at the time of the visit, and we still haven't received a bill weeks later. They also communicate using a Gmail address, which is not HIPAA-compliant, and fail to practice informed consent in any meaningful way. For comparison, our usual pediatrician and their team are incredibly warm, respectful, and professional. They greet us every time, take our concerns seriously, and offer comfortable seating (something that sounds small but really matters when you've just given birth!) and nursing accommodations. The experience with Dr. Jones and this office could not have been more different. We won't be returning.

She is not empathetic towards her patients at all. I have needed to come in for several reason for two of my children. I would highly recommend seeing a pediatrician who cares more deeply about their patients and their needs. She seems like a very check the box person who is unable to emotionally connect with her patients and their family's.

We had also come from another Dr with Hoag that was very unhelpful, so Dr K was a breath of fresh air! He came highly recommended from two other very good friends of mine, who have kids that have been seeing him for many years. I have a list of questions every time i go in to see him, and he answers every single on of them. I never feel like i am being rushed out of the office, and he is super good with our daughter. I even had, what we thought was a peanut allergy emergency, and they made a point to see me immediately. Any time i have an issue i can call their office and someone returns my call within a few hours. Sometimes immediately after i call. It's amazing. We even had an issue with our daughters ongoing reflux issue, and Dr K tried calling us 5 times in 1 day to get hold of me discuss my concerns. I could barely get anyone from my first pediatrician's office to return my call after I called them several times. I honestly can't speak highly enough of him. So thankful to have him as our daughters doctor.

I understand that working in a call center and medical office can be demanding, and I appreciate the efforts of your team. However, after several appointments over the past few months, I have noticed some areas that may benefit from improvement. Today, while trying to schedule an appointment for my child, I found that very few appointment times were available, and the interaction felt somewhat lacking in empathy. As parents, when we call regarding our children's health, we are often concerned and looking for reassurance as well as assistance. I have also noticed that many appointments seem to be handled by nurses rather than physicians. While I appreciate the nurses and their hard work, there have been times when the care and guidance provided did not feel as thorough as expected. Even when a child appears to have a simple cold or virus, I believe every concern should be approached with caution, attentiveness, and respect. Having lived in several states and worked professionally as an operations consultant, I have experienced many healthcare systems. I genuinely believe there are opportunities to improve scheduling access, patient communication, and the overall service experience for families. My intention is not to criticize, but to provide constructive feedback in the hope that it helps create a better experience for your staff, parents, and most importantly, the children who are your patients. Thank you for taking the time to listen and consider this feedback.

After a very brief appointment -- approximately five minutes -- during which Compound W was applied to treat a wart, our insurance was billed and paid the adjusted charges. We were then charged additional out-of-pocket fees on top of that. At the office's direction, we contacted their billing department to dispute the remaining balance due to the minimal nature of the treatment provided. Unfortunately, the charges were not adjusted. We understand healthcare has costs, and we respect medical professionals' time and expertise. However, we believe billing should be reasonable and proportionate to the services rendered. Because of this experience, we've decided to seek care elsewhere. We're sharing this so other families can be informed and ask detailed questions about treatment and billing upfront.

I am not fond of any of the other doctors there, but it's been a good, comfortable place for my kid. But now, to be able to continue to receive the same service I have been getting and expecting for my family, I have to pay an administrative fee of $150-$250 a year (depending on the number of kids that you have). See the attached photo straight from their check-in portal. Otherwise they will charge you for every non-medical service that isn't covered by insurance - such as a call from your doctor about lab results, a vaccination record for your child or a medication refill over the phone. I am shocked and utterly horrified. It's bad enough that our insurance companies rip us off left and right with high premiums, deductibles, and copays, but now my provider is charging administrative fees!?!?? Their excuse - the insurance companies don't compensate us enough so we need the patients to cough it up. Food, housing, clothing, medicine costs have all increased and people are barely making ends meet these days. Incomes have not increased, but the cost of living has. And now, my pediatricians office wants to make more money by charging for simple things that should be included in the overall care my child receives. Sure, I can opt-out...but then what are you going to charge me for? What non-medical charges will I now expect to see on my bill? I called for a refill...how much do you charge for that? I asked for a note for my child's school....how much do you charge for that? These are not things that should ever be something a parent worries about. We have enough worries about our children and putting food on the table. Now I have to have anxiety about more mystery charges appearing on a bill? There was no prior warning about this...no emails that went out to parents and patients, no update on the website...this appeared as I was trying to do a check for my child for their appointment. There is minimal transparency about what you are charging for these non-medical services. I want no part of being at a place that does something like this. I will need to find a new office now...this is so unethical. How many more patients do you think you will lose because of this? I have never been at an office that has ever done this. What are you going to start charging for next??? How sad...customer care and service is now a money making business at Mia Bella Pediatrics.
