Good menu selection and friendly staff though can get very busy. While it remains a perennial favourite I'm less inclined to recommend the brand for frequent visits as I've noticed the food preparation just seems to rely on more commercially prepared ingredients, but I can't verify that. The price can be rather expensive for the less than perfectly prepared meals, in my opinion. It's not bad but one can tell the food workers are real chefs. Take the Denver Omelet meal for example: inconsistently toasted bread, off putting processed cheese (that's how it tasted) and soggy half cooked shredded hash potatoes. But that's what you get these days. If you are good with that, fine. Great place to hang with family and friends. This location is nicely laid out in sections. There are alternatives out there however for a better epicurean experience. As for this franchise location specifically, they do the best with what they have and the staff they can retain. My relatives love the pancakes there. I don't think I'll be back though. But give them a try. read more

A large group of us went to Denny's this afternoon and I just had to leave a positive review. I was shocked when I read the reviews. This was not our experience at all. Oftentimes when a large group descends on a restaurant things can get confused however this was no problem for the wait staff. They could not have been more helpful or friendly. On a Sunday, I went in to try this restaurant - which I had driven by several times. There was a bit of a wait, ten minutes. The restaurant had some sort of strange smell, like something you would find at an old folks home. The service was decent. But, the food was not great: two super small sausages, two small pieces of bacon, hash browns and two small slices of toast; the OJ was good. Everything else was average. I came to Denny's on the evening of January first with my boyfriend and father. I had been to the Denny's downtown and had a great experience so I was expecting great things! However, when I arrived I was very, very disappointed... Perhaps I should have looked around more closely, but also the hostess should have told me that they were having their holiday menu that day. There were no posters saying such, just a piece of paper on the front desk that I didn't notice until I left, after I heard her point it out to a customer just coming in. They seated us in the back, near a huge amount of kids highchairs and boring, bland, empty walls. It looked just... really bad. The menu was small, and there weren't many great choices. I was really bummed out, but we had already been seated so we decided to at least give it a chance. We started off with the mixed appetizer plate. It took 40 minutes to arrive and at 30 minutes in my father had to complain and the waitress said that she would see what was going on with it, but never came back. When it finally did arrive, it was sloppily put together on a plate that was way too big for the small amount of food that we received.. It looked like something you might get at a take out restaurant with onion rings, 2 chicken strips and 4 slices of a cheese quesadillia. Our drinks were empty practically the whole night, because the waitress hardly ever came to check in on us (or even walk near our tables) and when she did she would just quickly grab plates and walk off before I could finish swallowing to ask her to give me a refill. 20 minutes after we received our "appetizer" we received our full meal. I ordered the pot roast and it was probably the worst thing I have ever eaten. It was 80% mashed potatoes and 20% roast. The potatoes were DISGUSTING and tasted like the stuff in a box that you mix with water. The pot roast was almost entirely fat, and I had to spit out most of it. I do not recommend anyone go to this Denny's. I was so excited to have one close to my house, but I will never go again. This restaurant is branded like a Denny's but the way it operates is unlike any Denny's I've ever been to. The place was empty, so why so slow? Then my order arrived burned to a crisp - I sent it back. I wonder how the chef could have put that on a plate? It was completely desiccated. Do they need stronger glasses? A watch maybe? The replacement portion arrives and it is the wrong size. The things that should have been hot were cold. I'm still waiting for my garlic toast. Got in at 7:15, walked out at 8. Service didn't start till well after 10mins, and the man that served us was the only server/instance anyone check on us till we left. Child couldn't wait after the 8pm mark, and the restaurant was at most 1/3 full the entire time we were there. Embarrassing, Unprofesional, and a Complete Failure, We left without so much as a crumb of food. Thanks for ruining our family night out. WE ARE TELLING EVERYONE WE KNOW ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE. Came here on a Sunday for my birthday. My actual birthday was the next day, but I have school and work then and didn't think coming a day before would be a problem. Especially since in the past, other locations wouldn't even check for proof that it was your birthday. We were upfront with our waitress and she said it was fine, so we ordered. She asked for my i.d and writes my name and birthdate down and I sign it. 20 min later she comes and instead of getting us our food, she informs us that management had decided that I wouldn't get the birthday deal which is a grand slam or $9.59 off our bill. She apologized but, what were we going to do with that? If this policy was so important, then they should've told the waitress so she knew for next time and let it go for us. Given how we had already been waiting so long in a near empty restaurant for our food. If they had mentioned this when we first got here, that would have been fair, but to keep us waiting for 20 minutes and then telling us? We just got up and left. After all that and taking my information down? Was the $9.00 really that important? She had my information so I obviously couldn't come the next day to try to get the deal again. Why were they so slow when the place was empty? On a Sunday at 11:30 am? Maybe we should've have wondered then. This isn't how you treat customers. We're definitely not coming back to this location again. This has left such a bad taste in my mouth, I'm hesitant to go to any Denny's again. DO NOT EAT HERE!! My glass came with someone else's lipstick on it. My partner's glass was also dirty and had a huge chip out of the rip. My egg's had shells in them. my hash browns were not the ones I ordered. My partner's cheeseburger looked like someone had taken a bite out of it. Obviously, the the cook had to repeatedly cut into to check if it was cooked or not. It wasn't even in the shape of a burger on the bun, just chunks of burger stuffed into the bun. I couldn't eat my meal. I was so grossed out. The server never came to check on our meals. When I told the manager he became visibly angry and rude. He offered me a 25% discount on my entire bill. I refused that, as I didn't eat any of my meal or my drink. He begrudgingly took my meal off the bill but I still had to pay for the rest, including the dirty and broken glasses of beverages. Not once did the manager acknowledge my complaint or apologize. Instead he pushed me aside to pay my bill and moved onto the next people walking through the door. Both Langford and Westshore locations are going down hill. The colwood one we went to last week my wife and my two year old got food poisoning from there. For the one in town never again they have the most rude and abusive staff there. After my last time I was there about 2 years ago we got yelled at my the server and manger. Do not eat here ever. I ordered the turkey dinner and is was the worst meal I have ever seen. I have to say seen because I could not eat it. I took a picture of meal and it came looking awful. And it was cold. I had to ask them to heat it up but it did not help. I would never go back. The service was slow, the coffee tasted very old, the wait to get meal was long even though the restaurant was not busy, the presentation of the meal was just plain awful, not to mention the taste. We go to this location a few times a week and LOVE it!!!!! I would honestly go daily if my husband let us! Every single staff member is extremely friendly, caring, and outgoing! We have never had a bad experience and the food is always DELICIOUS!!! I always order the Classic Benny on mini pancakes and I don't think I'll ever get sick of it!!! My favorite restaurant and some of the best servers we have ever had in any restaurant! We will be back - obviously! You guys are wonderful and you can't beat the prices here!!! read more

We use to LOVE this restaurant, food can take some time but we always had our favourite server Amanda serve us, so we did't care about the wait, she made our stay pleasant.. we have been back a few times and you can DEFINITELY tell the difference. We had an older lady serve us in a red shirt and she was horrible, not only to us but to her co-workers, when we were waiting to get seated we heard her complaining about getting a table that doesn't tip and she was giving attitude to the poor host (who looks new by the way) how seating is unfair. This is not something a customer should be hearing. We ended up getting her as a server. It took a while to get our drinks and when our food came it was cold. We have been to the Colwood restaurant maybe 8 times. Today was our last visit here and possibly with Dennys altogether. Greeted by a pleasant young girl... Seated to a cleaned table which was still loaded with syrup. Orderd our food and we were completely turned off. NOTHING was hot.. but the pancakes were the worst. I asked immediately that they just be removed from bill which they did. The meal for both of us was dry and cold. These days customers really want to chose wisely which restaurant gets your business... Because eating out is just becoming so expensive. So you just expect equal value for your money. Dennys is not enforcing their franchise rules with regard to proper procedures for food prep or delivery. We have owned and operated our own "very well known" franchise restaurant and if Dennys doesent give a s### than we certainly cant be bothered either. Not the experience you are probably looking for. The wait to be seated in an empty restraint was unusually long. The host acted clinically depressed. The whole wheat bun was dry, crumbly and tasted of stale crackers. Shredded hash browns were served with unsolicited cheese, liberally applied, but oddly tasteless. Service was odd and very slow. Could not get over the feeling that we were not valued customers but rather a minor inconvenience. This mirrored an earlier experience at the same restaurant. The only reason this Denny's got any star is because the food was warm as was the service. It would seem this location of Denny's lacks expertise in all areas down to line chefs, servers and management. One in our party was celebrating a birthday, which entitled them to a free GrandSlam. When they opted for something else, the server was quite helpful in explaining the price of the birthday meal ($9.89) would be deducted from the total cost of any meal chosen. A meal of poached eggs, rye toast, hash browns,bacon, with tomato juice beverage was ordered. Twenty minutes later everything arrived but the toast ~ the cook said it would be served when ready. Needless to say by the time the toast arrived, the poached eggs et al were hard and cold. Upon paying the bill, there was a lineup of complaints. The manager listened to our complaint, looked at the bill, said we had not been billed properly, that in redoing it we'd be charged less. The bill ended up being about $2 more than the original. Between the party as a whole waiting nearly 30 minutes for standard breakfast fare, the meal being cold and the "free" meal being overcharged, we would not recommend wasting your time on this Denny's until they hire experienced staff. read more
