Great service and pretty good breakfast. We wandered in around 8am and the place was empty. Was that a sign? It turns out that appearances were deceiving as we had a very enjoyable breakfast. The service was excellent. Very friendly and attentive. What was very impressive was when we mentioned to our waitress about a concern on one of the dishes, the Manager was over shortly to address our concerns. That shows me a good internal communication systems as well as a focus about customer service. Well done! Now on to the food. Good coffee although the first cup was only warm. Refills however were good. The pancakes were excellent. Light, fluffy and very tasty. The bacon looked a little bedraggled, it was okay. The Hot n spicy skillet was a miss. It wasn't bad but it was not great. Lots of tender chicken pieces but the chorizo sausage was hard to find. The seasoned red potatoes were very small and mushy. Often you'll get a skillet meal that has nothing but potatoes, this was the complete opposite with the spuds being a lean portion. When I mentioned this to the manager he was very gracious offering my more sausage or spuds if I wanted them but kept going back to the refrain "they have to follow the recipe". Chain restaurants can be a good choice because you get consistency based on a good formula, but if the formula (recipe) is broken, I don't think one should defend it. I would never order a skillet again, over-priced and under delivered; however the pancakes were a hit.

It was Papa George's for the longest time. I spent a lot of time here, mainly because I lived in this neighbourhood and worked rotating shift work for half my time in Winnipeg. Papa George's was open until 4 am most nights. I am nostalgic. I also am curious. A couple of Mondays ago, I decided to visit my old neighbourhood and check Leopold's Tavern out. I parked across the street in the parking lot near the Liquor Mart store. You have two hours of free parking there. I don't know if anyone was truly clocking time, as it was raining. I walked into the eatery. It looked so different. A female staffer at the bar said to seat myself anywhere that I'd like. I plopped myself at a table with a good view of the Germany vs Paraguay game in FIFA play. I like that you get memorabilia everywhere in this establishment. The Winnipeg Jets 1.0. A bunch of records with record labels such as Polydor. Various world tours from Styx to Eurythmics. I loved everything about it. My server was excellent. He was attentive and helpful. I got a Coke Zero to start. This place didn't have Diet Coke, so I took the next best sugar-free option. It was cold and perfect. Refills were prompt, which I appreciated. I came here on a Monday. It was happy hour all day. Yay! This place has daily specials. I got a scotch egg that was $6 for happy hour. I saved $3. My server asked if I wanted my scotch egg with chipotle mayo, or zesty mustard, or both. I went with chipotle mayo. The egg came out first. It had panko on the outside. The sausage was so good around the soft-boiled egg. I loved this starter so much. I'd get it again in a heartbeat. I got the braised beef dip as my main. It came with a side. I opted for cabbage roll soup. This meal was outstanding. The braised beef was tender. It melted in my mouth with little chewing effort. This sandwich had swiss cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onion, and horseradish mayo. A toasted ciabatta bun held everything together. I dipped it in au jus. It was so flavourful and perfect. I loved my cabbage roll soup. It tasted like a deconstructed cabbage roll in a lovely broth. It was comforting and yummy. For dessert, I got creamsicle churros. I love creamsicles. I love churros. This combination could not be bad. The orange and vanilla sauces on top of crispy churro bites were amazing. It came with whipped cream. I had a bit of it, but wasn't necessary. The sauces worked their own magic. I paid with a credit card. I tipped. I tapped. I was done! The washrooms are in the same spots, but look different. The women's washroom was clean. No issues. This eatery is open till 2 am. It's still decent if you're working rotating shifts, or like a late night bite after a concert or sporting event. I'm glad I dropped by. I had a wonderful time reliving old memories of a past eatery and making new ones by having yummy, creative, good eats. I'll be back to try more items off the menu. (289)

My husband and I ate here the night before an early morning flight because we didn't feel like dealing with an Uber after checking into our hotel. We expected convenience. Instead, we ended up having one of the best dinners of our entire trip. The service was warm, friendly, attentive, and perfectly paced. We never felt rushed, which made for a relaxing evening before a travel day. My husband and I both ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Bowl, and it was absolutely delicious. The grilled chicken was tender and flavorful, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. My sister ordered the Pickerel Provençal, and my brother-in-law had the Braised Beef Short Ribs. Everyone at the table raved about their meal, and each dish was beautifully presented. The wine list was also much better than we expected, with plenty of choices to complement dinner. I kept saying to myself, "I can't believe I'm eating this well at an airport hotel restaurant!" If you're staying at the Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel--or even if you're just looking for a great meal near the airport--don't overlook Blue Marble. We'd happily come back, even if we weren't staying at the hotel.
