We had a very good experience here and even came back for more. The Fish tacos were delicious, as was the chicken meal. The chicken was well prepared, tender and juicy and the peppercorn whiskey gravy was flavorful. The sides were also great: the broccolini was not overdone and had just the right amount of parmesan. The fish tacos had a good slaw, which was not overly sauced. The environment was good too--both indoors and on the patio (and they're dog friendly if that's important to you too). Food is worth 5 stars all day, but the service (kitchen fault) was horrendous. Just two of us and took two hours. The server was great, checked on our meals and prompted the kitchen and management on our behalf. She was attentive and very nice. Beef poutine was outstanding, loved every bite. Nice sauce, and large heaping pile, I'd prefer no American cheese and more curds but was still good. Wings small but good flavor. Drinks were cold and prices average. I expected big chunks of pork and a heavy pork taste. Instead the Pulled Pork Poutine was interesting in many ways, including having thin slices of pulled pork that was tender and sweet. The sauce had a sweetness to it that I can't quite describe but it's different then other pork sauces. It was very tasty and easy to eat. We were in a different end of town this night and decided to try original Joe's. I had been here before on a lunch meeting and had fond memories of the food. Decided to go here for dinner and ordered a 50-50 burger with a salad and Mashed potatoes with gravy. My wife had a chicken fettucine with garlic toast and a starter salad. The salad was very good with a lot of flavour and well balanced. Not too much dressing. The chicken fettucine was well done and had very good flavor. This was a slightly different one where they did not use a cream type of sauce. The 50-50 burger was pretty decent. The patties are supposed to be 50% beef and 50% mushroom or something like that. It looks kind of like a big Mac and about the same size. It was a healthy burger, but not the tastiest. I would go for a veggie burger at Brown's Social House or even A&W for that matter, but it was good and I would probably order it again. The mashed potato was very much homemade like. It wasn't creamy smooth like some restaurants make it but it was quite flavourful and the gravy was also very good. The only complaint that I had this night was that the service was really slow. The restaurant wasn't all that busy so we couldn't figure out why we are waiting so long. The servers were very pleasant. If they can improve their service I would definitely go back again. I'm on a bit of a fish taco kick and this place has the best ones! They use lots of different flavours including cilantro. Husband had a steak and he loved it too. Service was friendly, quick. You can see from my other reviews I'm a tough sell but this place is 5 stars in my books. read more

We had honey garlic and jerk wings for appetizer and its so good! I ordered The Kona which is good too that come with 2 sides (big serving)! Their fries and sweet potato a bit salty for me cause prolly I always eat fries with no salt but I forgot to tell the server. Their coleslaw taste weird. I wouldn't recommend their Mexican bulldog. They have a raspberry drink on the same page of Mexican bulldog that is better. I dropped my toque on the floor. I called and ask if they saw it but the girl who answered the phone put me on hold for 30 seconds and told me its not there. I went with family for a late lunch. I told the server that I had a severe nut allergy and asked if she could please let the kitchen know. When our food came out, my salad had chopped nuts on top of it (the ingredients of the salad weren't mentioned on the menu)! I'm glad I noticed but it could've been easy to miss because it was so dark inside. My family's orders were also wrong. They got garlic dip instead of gravy, the wrong kind of fries etc. The waitress said "oh, they put nuts! It's my fault because I didn't write it down!". She looked like she was writing our orders down when she took them, but for some reason didn't write the most important part of my order down? This experience made me very nervous, especially because she didn't take my allergies seriously enough to write it down and to tell the kitchen. It's not a preference, I have anaphylaxis, which is life threatening. I've eaten at many restaurants who take allergies seriously and haven't had problems. She did replace my plate and said they would make a whole new plate for me without nuts, but it took a very short amount of time for her to bring me another plate which worried me. If the kitchen can't get orders right, and the waitress didn't take note of my allergy then how do I know if they didn't just pick the walnuts out of the salad on my original plate? I didn't end up eating the salad even on the "new" plate that was brought out. We also went at around 2:30pm, when it was not busy in the slightest, so I don't understand how all of our orders were wrong. Be aware of this if you have allergies/intolerances when you eat at this location. Restaurant staff should understand the severity of allergies and take them seriously. If I hadn't noticed the nuts on my salad I could have died from a reaction. read more

I am very sad to report that OJs has changed their daily specials. Specially, half price beer on Wednesday has died and gone to another life. They have replaced it with tanks for $7. More than twice the price, much less than twice the beer. It was a good 3+ year run for Wednesday OJ beer. read more

Decor was pub upscale. We had the Kona burger it was very good grilled pineapple bacon and cheese comes with 2 sides we had fries and gravy and potato salad. Potato salad excellent with real bacon very tasty gravy was good I'm thinking the old Costco gravy stouffers tasted the same. I've eaten here 3 times at least & had very good service and food. It's similar to Chili's, or 54th Street in the States. They have lettuce wraps that are good and are my default food of choice now. This location has an outdoor patio that was nice to catch some warmth of the sun & have a lunch with a friend. read more

Friendly staff and fun ambiance. Had the Original Joe's Blonde & Honey Brown beers. I love they have their own brews - the honey brown was the fav. Ordered the carolina pulled pork sandiwch with side salad and an upgrade to poutine (of course when in Canada) and had some of the miso ramen bowl (a seasonal item). I am a bit of a ramen snob so I am uber critical about my ramen - although the taste was fine especially the pork slices that were in there (had a good soy sauce taste), the soup base did not taste like miso. I thought the portion was smaller than what I am used to and it came with a spicy condiment that didn't seem to go with ramen (although by itself was interesting). The poutine was yummy, the salad had a delicious dressing and the pulled pork sandwich (you could tell it was cooked for a long time) with slaw topping was just how I like it. They also give out a little cardboard with seeds on there so you can feel green and plant something later. read more

Had a hankering for mac and cheese on April 29, 2019 and we have always had a good time at Original Joe's on Portage Avenue west. Should have saved my money. The food is pretty corporate, so nothing too spectacular. We certainly have enjoyed quite a few of their dishes over the years. But a restaurant could have the best food in the world, but if the service sucks, it spoils the entire evening. I can't believe how disinterested the wait staff were! It wasn't just one; we had to flag down three staff members to get our food ... and all of them made it very obvious that they didn't care one tiny bit. Considering we were one of only three tables in the restaurant, this attitude was inexcusable. We all ordered soup for an appetizer, and three entrees for afterwards. We made it quite clear that we would like the soup first. Another staff member brought our soups, plunked them down on the table and left before we could even point out that we had no cutlery. We stared at our soup for five minutes before we could wave down someone else and ask for cutlery. When we finally got a chance to try the soup, it was of course, COLD. When we pointed that out to ANOTHER staff member that we had to flag down, he whisked it off to be reheated, and returned one minute later. We just gave up and started eating it cold. THEN, before we had two bites, the waitress brought our entrees. Now the table was crowded, and we had a choice of leaving the soup and wasting our money, or letting the entrees get cold. So we basically ate cold soup AND cold entrees. I guess millennials have yet to catch on that entrees should never be served before the soup is finished. After all, they are charging Keg prices now; perhaps they need to up their level of service. So, they didn't care about us as customers; we don't care to ever go there again. And, yes, we are telling all our friends on social media about the terrible service we received. read more

I have actually been here 3 times now. First was so so . Second the fish tacos were not good- there are too many other places in the city that have much much better fish tacos . The last straw was our takeout order tonight. We live about 3-5 mins from the location and we were told it would be 10-15 mins. When picked up my husband had to wait 30-45 mins. Which we would have accepted had the food been ok. The food was completely cold. Fries tasted ok but were cold - MC Donald's sadly would have been a better burger choice. The special sauce on it was not good! I myself ordered a Cajun chicken and it was just soggy and not good. Earls has a much better Cajun chicken. It's sad because even though this is very close to us we will either drive to the polo park area or head to The Thirsty Lion instead of going back. read more

Besides the service the menu is very misleading. You order a sandwich and you get a choice of two sides and I chose the soup from the sides menu, but apparently you have to pay extra for the soup. If it's on the sides menu and it says you get two sides, why would you have to pay for one of them? read more

Excellent burger. Two others in our group ordered the mac and cheese, not spicy and said it was kind of bland. Usually never been disappointed with their food except the mac and cheese. Waitress was friendly and efficient. I wish they still had the adult only policy. read more
