I don't have good experience with Denny's, but because there is not much choice in the area at the time we arrive, so we have no choice but give Denny's try again. Surprisingly it is delicious! We had medium rare T-bone steak with Mac & Cheese, and veg medley as the sides. We also ordered a soup (loaded potatoes soup). All of them tastes good, the steak is really medium rare, which is out of our expectations! The server is very attentive, he brought some baked bread over, we didn't know if they comes with the meals, but they are just very yummy and fresh. I can't help but give it a 4 stars. read more

Denny's is Denny's. I think going in I knew what I was going to get. The restaurant was dated, although not dirty. At least that was good. Our server really tried. The kitchen staff was not good. Super slow and when one of our meals came - it wasn't hot despite the long wait. Our server was so determined to help that he actually jumped back in the kitchen to assist. Kudos to him. Honestly the best way I can describe this place is it's just tired. It was good years ago, but it's age kind of shows now everywhere. The place itself is rundown and somewhat filthy. The servers are not bad, but don't seem to be too thrilled to work there. The food is inconsistent and generally greasy. I hope they do a refresh/remodel at some point. Unfortunately we only had about 45 minutes before we needed to board an Erie Canal cruise. We were seated promptly and our order was taken. Only then did our waitress inform us that there was a bit of a wait for food, as they were only half way through serving a large group that had come before us. At this point it was too late to go anywhere else. The only thing we were able to get was a bowl of soup, which was good. However we were pretty disappointed and a little hungry. Until I could not stop and I had to go to the hospital. I got food poisoning and I had to stay the night at the hospital. If I could give them zero stars, I honestly would. I'm a very kind and understanding person. However, today was my first experience at this Herkimer location and it was terrible. I first noticed when I walked in how disorganized the staff was. I get it, it's busy. But you need to keep your focus and your organization at a busy time. They couldn't keep track of who came in first, made it very well-noticed in front of customers, and they showed a lot of stress in front of us. Our waitress was very rushed and even kind of threw down my coffee and creamers. But I was okay with that because, I understand stress and being rushed, believe me. Then, we waited a long long time for our food. We ordered choc chip pancakes as an appetizer which came out without the chips. We were so hungry we ate them (they were delicious)! Then another waitress came out with chocolate chip pancakes.... okay. Finally get our food - my boyfriend's steak was rubbery and felt like it was left out for a while. Now, for the grand finale. I'm eating my fit fare veggie sizzling skillet and I find a piece of paper in it. We complained after that because I honestly didn't know what it was and lost my appetite. Our service was terrible, the waiter rushed us to order. Kept forgetting things. Wouldn't let me substitute my eggs but yet had to pay the same price as if I were to have gotten the eggs. I dont what it is about this Denny's. We never seem to have luck coming here. After a long day of moving we stopped in for a bite to eat. Our server was friendly, but our food had to go back because it was made wrong. Then one plate had to go back 2 more times. It was frustrating. We were offered free dessert and 20% off our bill. I don't know if they have a completely new cooking staff or what, but the wait was VERY long. Took over an hour to get our food and it basically OK. I felt bad for the wait staff because you could tell they were doing their best to keep the peace between customers and the kitchen. My boyfriend and I came here a couple of days ago late at night around 1. We were feeling hungry so we just drove a 2 minute ride to Denny's from herkimer college. Once we got there we were greeted immediately. There was only one waitress working at the time and let me tell you, she was fantastic. She was fast, patient, friendly and outgoing. I think people like to bash Denny's sometimes. I don't know about other Denny's, but I really like this one in Herkimer. It's certainly affordably priced, and all the servers I've encountered there are very pleasant and good at their job. I particularly like the sirloin steak that they introduced a few months ago. I want to to go back soon, hope they still have that. They do have frequent menu changes which can make it interesting. read more

just bitched out the manager at Dennys in Herkimer after waiting 25 minutes for a server to even greet us. During those 25 minutes I witnessed the women next to us play with her food in disgust and wait 10 minutes for the waitress to come, who then ignored the women and walked away from the counter as the women was trying to complain and then heard the server argue with the line cook about the order and say she's going to deck him in the face. The breakfast menu. I just wanted 2 pancakes and coffee but no I was forced to get a slam. What a stupid name for a meal, a slam. Wonder what marketing genius thought that doozy up. While the pancakes were very, very good the syrup was NOT. If you are going there for breakfast please think ahead and bring your own syrup. I asked and they do allow you to do that. Some people don't eat like a horse yet the smallest slam was twice what I could eat. It's a shame to have all that wasted left over food on peoples plates go to waste. We generally have been Denny's fans. But not this one in Herkimer. The place is desperately in need of refurbishing - the booth seats are held together with duct tape. The staff is friendly - seating was prompt - but old food was caked onto our coffee cups which our waitress apologized for. On the dinner menu, we noticed that side selections have been pared back and quality of the food overall has declined. Red potatoes are actually overcooked homefries - and be careful if the waitress offers onions on your red potatoes - she'll charge you extra without letting you know. Too bad. :-( read more

four of us went to Denny's last night. a couple and 2 singles. we asked right from the start for separate checks. when he came for a last check we again iterated to him that we needed separate checks. There was a local high school play earlier and the kids always go to Denny's afterword, it is a safe friendly environment that is alcohol free. We have no problem with this, however the staff was all focused in the other room. We got our order taken promptly, however we waited 45 mins for the appetizers that were COLD and then 30 more mins for the food which was also cold. One dish comes out in cast iron advertised to be sizzling and was pretty much room temp when received. we could see lots of staff roaming in the other room but no food. when it was time for the check he tried to sell us dessert. i figured the ice cream would be milkshakes before we go it or the pie would also be warm -- we said no and asked again for separate checks. we were give 1 yes ONE check and told they will break it up at the register. My husband went up to pay our portion and he was told we all had to come to the register. What if we had to leave early and the others had wanted to stay for desert? So we all had to leave at the same time, either understaffed or under focused. our waiter was young and so his attention was naturally drawn to the other room. should have had one waiter/waitress designated to our room as other people came in and waited and waited and when we were leaving were finally getting their drinks.
