I was in Utica for a business trip. I used Yelp to find a good restaurant. One of the recommendations was the Iconic. I had a steak, which was good. They also had an imported NA beer, which I really enjoyed. The service was great. They only had one person waiting on all the tables and bar tending. Seems like they could use more help. Everything was timely. Just seems like a lot for one person. The atmosphere was good too. Many famous people have stayed at the Iconic, which is the restaurant for a historic hotel in downtown Utica. Getting service was the painful part of this experience as no one was at the front and the bartender was not at the bar. I ended up walking to the back of the room to find all of the employees chatting away with one another before someone realized I was looking for service. Besides that mishaps, we were surprised how good the food actually tasted as our impression on hotel restaurant food is not that great. My filet smelled a bit off and the romaine in the Caesar had definitely seen better, greener days. The double-crust cheesecake was absolutely delicious, and made in-house. While on a work trip, my husband and I were guests at the Doubletree Hotel, which is where Iconic is located. We decided to take advantage of our kid free time and chose to dine at the hotels restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised! The Iconid by Chesterfield is absolutely gorgeous. The furnishings are incredibly aesthetically pleasing to the eye, very modern and sleek. They have a lovely bar area for patrons who just want to unwind and have a cocktail or 2 after a long day. The real reason for this review is to discuss the food. IT WAS PHENOMENAL!!! Our dishes were full of flavor. Beginning with the complimentary fresh bread & red sauce that neither my husband nor I could get enough of. Our appetizer, entrees, and desserts were all absolutely delicious! One of our side dishes was risotto. It was one of the best risotto dishes I have had in years! There was not one single critique or complaint for either of our meals or service. A group of ladies (8 total) and myself have been trying new places for our brunches each Sunday. We decided to try Iconic Utica (iconic by chesterfield) If you're looking for a place that has a beautiful setting then this is definitely your spot. Although if you're looking for "decent" service, and "decent" food this is definitely NOT the place. We made reservations a week advanced, for 10am. All of our party is there by 10:15. We didn't get acknowledged until 10:45 (there were two other tables with two people seated as well in the dining area) I could've understood if they were busy. They weren't. Once acknowledged we ordered some waters (8) and 3 mimosas. our drinks came out at 11:30. She only brought 3 waters as well and when asked to bring out some more for the group we were greeted with an eye-roll. After we began ordering. we all decided to do separate checks and that was a big issue to the server as once we told her that she stormed off and didn't come back for a solid ten minutes. We ordered-waited another 45 then our meals came out. All of them were wrong. An omelet did not have bacon (we were told a new one would be made-that never happened) A bacon egg and cheese sand-which came without bacon (also told this would be fixed-never happened. 3 of us ladies ordered their "hotel breakfast" which included eggs bacon toast and a side of home fries. our meals came out-no home-fries with any of them. i asked her to look at the menu and clarify if I was mistaken. She rudely said we were wrong-once she noticed I had a menu in hand reading she corrected herself and stated "I usually don't work Sundays". Okay then maybe study the menu every once in a while? After stating we would like homefries or a discount on the meal that was another eyeroll. Once we finished our mediocre meals we asked her for our checks. which took another 15 minutes. My bill along with the seven other girls was all wrong. My 14$ meal was now 19.57 i asked her why there was a price difference and she could not give me an actual answer. A 9$ breakfast sandwich was charged at 16$. She said she took the drinks off our bill but that did not help one bit with the attitude and the poor human interaction she calls "waitressing". If you're going to be in the food industry you kind of have to care about human interactions. Mary D our waitress also decided to add a tip onto one of the card transactions-which is actually illegal. Our reservation was cancelled two minutes after we left as well at 2:30 too. Maybe to cover their tracks? Mary D also said this place was a "a dumpster fire". A disgrace to have this place in Utica I had asked for the managers number. Rose. What a poor excuse for a manager too. Very unprofessional. Rose also stated this "never happened". my friends and I did not tip this lady due to the fact she was rude and it seemed like we were a bother to be there eating/being paying customers. First time going to this restaurant. At initial entrance the atmosphere is very relaxing and very calm which was nice. After being seated there wasn't a menu for regular beers or even soda, teas, or other drinks. They had a wine list and after dinner drink menus. The menu for food was small. Prices for these meals were fairly priced. My girlfriend got a plain burger with no cheese but for got to take the cheese off. I ordered chicken riggies and it was delicious. It was a little spicy but have great taste. All in all it wasn't a bad experience. The service could of been a little better. If you grew up eating Italian food in a Italian heritage family, you had bread and salad with it. Tony Sparagna's, Grimaldi's and Chesterfield's, if you grew up eating at these places you get it. Servers were excellent and took great care of everyone. For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Francaise with 2 sides. I chose some amazing sweetened roasted carrots & asparagus. The meal exceeded my expectations; light & delicious but also filling. I also enjoyed 2 glasses of Kim Crawford SB & had a great time chatting with the staff & other guests. My tab added up to around $40 which was quite reasonable for such a nice evening. There were a couple of very intriguing dinner specials offered tonight. Only had breakfast there but it was not good. Homefries were undercooked and crunchy. Four of our group ordered eggs "over easy" and everyone of us got sunnyside up. The suckiest thing is they charge for each refill of (bad) coffee, even if you only get a top off or ask for half. We planned a special 60th birthday party for ten people. The owner and manager were very helpful in planning. Our table was in a very private and extremely beautiful location on the mezzanine of the gorgeous and historic hotel. From start to finish the evening was outstanding! Actually and solidly a world class experience! The layout of our table and a special table which displayed the cake was a custom touch which shows the attention to detail of the ownership, management and staff at Iconic. From specialty cocktails to daily featured dishes to regular menu items, our culinary experience could not have been more enjoyable! The quality and timing of our courses left us all extremely happy! Also, every view on the mezzanine is stunning. There is not another venue even close to having the architectural sophistication and beauty of this place, In addition, our service was perhaps the best I have ever experienced excepting that of Antiones in New Orleans. Last night we went there for my daughters and I birthday. The wait for our food was ridiculous, mind you it wasn't busy yet. We had a group of 6, 3 of us our food came cold. 2 steaks were totally over cooked. The waitress brought us out birthday cake with a sparkler on it that went out before she put it in front of us and never even said happy birthday to us. I'm not normally one to write reviews, however my wife and I cannot stop talking about our meals. Staying with my wife, work trip, at the Doubletree Hotel in Utica. We researched a bit before coming into town and everything we read was about how good Utica's food is... and wow were they correct. We viewed a couple other restaurants in the area, but got in town later and decided to eat at the hotel, and it was very busy. Full bar and dining room. We found a spot at the bar and the bartender, Rachel, who was also taking tables immediately greeted us. She informed us it would be a little bit of a wait on food, understandable everywhere is understaffed, we were perfectly fine waiting with our drinks. Although it was busy, we had drinks and menus in our hands right away. I had the shrimp scampi mac and cheese. This was one of the best meals I have had in years. I've always loved this restaurant for its atmosphere and amazing food but tonight was an experience. I went with 2 friends that were looking forward to a great dinner and conversation as we don't get to do it very often. Our waitress was literally at the table every 5 minutes looking for our order. There was no other table filled with people but us so not sure why she was rushing us along on a regular basis. As we received our dinners my one friend discovered a hair in her pasta. She brushed it off and said" it happens ". She then found another one and that did it for her. We alerted our waitress who took her plate away with no resolution. 15 minutes later she returned to say they were making her a new dish which at this point she didn't want. A maybe manager came over and explained that there was a new cook and they told her she needed to wear a hair net but she wasn't and only put her hair up. Not sure why we needed that explanation of just pure violation of health codes but thanks? I shared my dinner with my friend but then my other friend discovered a huge piece of plastic in her haddock. At this point we felt we were being punked and looking for Ashton! They took both meals off the bill and were extremely apologetic and polite about the entire situation. The wait staff is not to blame. The kitchen staff however needs a complete do over. I will never visit this establishment again if this is what comes out of their kitchen. This is truly a shame because I have been a fan of Chesterfield for many years. read more
