I want to congratulate Denny's restaurant because it is the only restaurant I know in Houston that uses disposable boxes to carry or takeaway food. I was in a pinch for lunch so I wanted to order something quick from this Denny's nearby my house. Ordered the chicken tenders family pack thats supposed to be for 4-5 people. The "chicken tenders" were more like popcorn chicken and barely feed two people. I know Denny's isn't the go to lunch order, but at the very least they should not be misadvertising small chicken balls as tenders (on the website they even have a picture that shows full tenders for this pack). read more

Wow... Do you see how small that one sandwich piece is? First, we came in and were seated right by the dirty bus boy roller cart. It hadn't moved for 15 mins, so we decided to change tables on our own. Then, the waiter came with our food and didn't have the cheddar cheese on mine so he took it back. My boyfriend was done eating before I got up to check how long it takes to put a piece of cheese on a sandwich... Turns out, it probably didn't take that long to put the cheese on it, it's just that it had been sitting in the window for who knows how long. At least 15 mins... The manager came to talk to us and I asked him for a to go box; the waiter was back with the check in a few mins, but no box... V poor service... I am going to have to disagree with everyone else except Mark T. This was by far the best Denny's I have ever been to. Maybe I walked in on a special night. Maybe the stars were in alignment and the heavens wanted me to have a perfect day. Who knows? My bff and I were hungry after a concert at Warehouse Live ended at midnight. Not many places were open at the time so we came here. It wasn't that busy so we were seated right away. The place looked clean and there were no ants or anything like the other reviewers said. Our server promptly took our orders and the food came out pretty quickly. The first time I ever had the zesty nachos was at a Denny's on the north side of town and I thought they were really good. Every time I went back to that location, the nachos would get worse and worse with each visit. Same went for the cheese fries. I ordered both of those here and shared them with my friend and let me tell you, these were the best ones I've had to date. The fries were steaming, burn-your-mouth-and-throat hot and were not missing any ingredients. Other places always forget either the shredded cheese or the cheese sauce. The nachos were fully loaded and the chips in them were awesome. Our server was super cool and checked on us often. My friend ordered the iced coffee and when our server brought it out, he was really modest about it. It was his first time making one but it was still super delicious, according to my friend. This place isn't as bad as people say! I've been coming to this location my entire life. Yes it used to be terrible but now they've been hiring people that actually seem they want to work there. Good manners, always smiling, decent service. It doesn't take what seems like hours to order and get your food anymore and the food actually comes out hot now! The only downside I've seen lately is they forget to refill your drinks when they're fairly busy. Service has been a lot better lately than it has been in the past, it isn't one of the best but this location is getting better. I'll keep coming back as long as they keep improving. read more

Finally decided to stop at this Dennys after living less than ten minutes away near UH for almost a year. I had been craving pancakes and had a little free time before work. I arrived at 11:30AM, Monday. After waiting five minutes a man in a white shirt (all servers wore black) whom I'm assuming was some sort of lead position sat me in the back of the restaurant. It was very busy and he had been delivering drinks beforehand. He asked me my drink choice but never brought it. Hmmm? After waiting another four minutes my server GiGi came up asked if water was correct and took my order. She then proceeded to go get the water after placing my order. I ordered a build your own grand slam and asked for pancakes (2) hash browns and a double order of sausage (4). The list of choices was lengthy but I liked this option because I did NOT want eggs and preferred double sausages. So after waiting 17 minutes, my food was delivered. When GiGi brought the food she dropped it in front of me while taking the guests drink order who was sitting in the booth behind me. Immediately she left without asking if I was ok which was when I realized my hash browns where M.I.A. Instead I had EGGS! This kind of confuses me because if I had asked for eggs I would have been given a choice as to how I wanted them prepared. Instead I DIDNT ask for eggs and the preparation choice was I guess given to someone else? Well whatever. I tasted them and didn't take a second bite. The pancakes where great and the sausage was good. Everything was hot and seemingly fresh despite the eggs. I did not have them replaced because I was not checked up on. While eating a party of two was sat in front of me. GiGi immediately greeted them by name and knew their order by heart. Their drinks came out quickly and she even apologized upon finding out the kitchen didn't have an item and asked for a replacement choice. At 12:06 I put my forks down and waited for GiGi to notice me. After given the check and waiting for her to bus a few tables before giving me my requested to go box I finally left at 12:23 Needles to say the food was decent and the service kind of sucked. By the time I left it was much slower yet I still wasn't getting any attention. Because I was dining solo on a late Monday morning I assumed I would be in and out. i always come here for my burgers. it's currently 2:30 am and i was starving so i decided to go with the build my own burger option & turn it into a mushroom swiss burger. however i said to put caramelized onions and they did do that but they also put raw onions which i didn't understand. it's fine i just took them off. i also decided to go with the red skin potatoes instead of the fries this time and boy was that a huge mistake! all i could taste was the frying oil and they weren't even crispy! i give this 4 stars because the burger was good but some things could've been better. good job denny's! read more

This place ends up with a star, even though I could never pick up my $50 order. Ends up if they are having problems at one location they transfer you r order to one they think is close enough. I figured out that my order had been moved, but thought it would be close to my location. WRONG. Second closest. By the time I could pick it up it wasn't worth trying. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! The crew team members seemed to have worked together for a very long time. When we walked in we were greeted and sat quickly. We had menus and drinks shortly after. The waitress remembered our order perfectly!! AND SHE WAS ATTENTIVE even though she was busy, our drinks were never empty and when she saw the syrup not working for us she warmed some in a different container that made it easier to pour. I was very pleased and happy with the service we received. I love when ppl LOVE their job, since I am a mortician customer service and presentation is HUGE to me! If you're going to allow your employees to have their kids at work I understand times are hard trust me I do especially right now but DAMN can they at least have better attitudes and customer serivce. My pregnant wife waited 25mins for a breakfast sandwich only for the host to end up saying oh we don't even have your order well why are we waiting here on a order then . Nobody tried to help to see how we could be assisted to make our visit pleasant . I asked for a smoothie and 5 minutes later the lady came back to tell me that they lost something from the machine to make smoothies and they couldn't make it. Not at all her fault of course, and she did the best she could with the tools she had, for a Denny's the server was good and I reflected this on her tip but the place was awful. First, it is in an area where you have to watch your surroundings and make sure the car is well locked. This is a shame because the premisses themselves are fantastic. It has a retro Route 66 decor with chromed steel skin on the outside and Rock and Roll era tables and everything. A jukebox would have been a great final touch. But the service is awful. It took forever to get our food. Close to 20 minutes. Two tables were served before us and the place was LOUD. Let me tell you a little bit more about this first and last visit to this place. There was a family in front of me and when the lady was done with her meal, she stood up and stretched and rubbed her belly by pulling her shirt up to do so. Not a problem there, aside from the fact that I did not need to see her stretch marks while trying to eat my burger, but hey. You can't blame an establishment for the people and lack of basic table manners right? So I move on... and my family and I are still feeling pretty overwhelmed about the entire environment and the fact that our food was late, I couldn't get exactly what I wanted etc. So there was this other family right next to us. Dad, mom and a child that clearly needs some help. I honestly can't blame the father for taking off his belt and spanking the kid. But this is where it gets nasty. The kid ran to the table next to us and started licking the cap of the salt shaker. The father tried to stop him but couldn't, then proceeded to put the shaker back on its place. The manager was there at this point and was trying to assist the couple but the manager was clearly irritated. So the kid proceeds to jump to another table in front of us and lick another salt shaker. At this point I thought that the manager would for sure remove that shaker and change it for a clean one. NO! All the manager did was to move the caddy far away from the reach of the kid and put the shaker back in its cradle. I don't know about you but that is just nasty. If the manager can see something like that and do something as disgusting as that in the public view, God knows what happens in the kitchen far away from sight. Seriously, its a shame because it is a nice building, but if you can... avoid this place unless you want drool and spit on your salt. read more

Friday morning I took the girls to the spa for their 2 week apt. My friend Tom has me hooked on Denny's, so I was craving it. I dropped the girls off at about 8 am and decided to go to Denny's for breakfast. The groomer said the girls would be done in an hour. I went to my app to show me the nearest Denny's. It took me to the 288 South location. When I approached the first and second door the paper signs on both doors said, "Restroom for customers only". I then got the hint of what part of town I'm in. The nice server sat me down in a booth. I over herd two men behind me talking. I listen to their conversation and it brought me to tears. It was a sponsor talking to an addict. I herd the sponsors stories about his drug addiction to being evicted from his apt to becoming sober. About his sobriety to his life goals being sober. This hit home for me. My dad is now 14 days sober. Yeh!!! God sent me today to this random Denny's to experience this amazing moment. I see the movement on how important it is to have a support system. It doesn't matter if you are addicted to a controlled substance or if you just need someone you trust to talk to. With this emotional breakfast, I quietly paid for the two gentlemen's breakfast and gave the waitress a $50 tip. I hope the kind gentleman and nice waitress pay it forward. A $7.99 breakfast turned out to be a $89.00 breakfast. However, the word the sponsor was giving to his friend and the great customer service from the gal serving the only white girl in the dinner was amazing. One of the worst dining experiences ever. I've had issues with this Denny's before, wrote corporate and got a boilerplate "gee we're sorry " reply. Obviously, they must not care. We had a tall, thin young man with a scraggly beard as a server, a red flag since he'd interfered with our nice lady server the last visit. I tried hard to give him a chance. We were literally the only customers when we arrived, finally seated ourselves when no one appeared. After quite a wait, we finally got menus and I asked for "water for now" being very thirsty. We also said we needed a few minutes to order. This guy hovers and tries to be cute, calling me "my lady" which I found affected and a bit creepy. We were a party of two adults and two children. We waited an absurdly long time for his return, given there were still no other customers. He did not bring my water but was kind enough to mention I wanted some. When my friend started to order for himself and his kids, the server interrupted him to insist that the "lady" go first. Normally, I like a bit more time and getting the kids taken care of usually goes first. The children's spaghetti was not very hot and we had to flag down the guy for their cheese. My bacon was crispy, but the "soft scrambled eggs" were hard. Pancakes were truly disappointing being tough and like someone else commented, were like frozen ones. I wanted iced tea, but I'm old and was afraid I wouldn't live long enough for it to arrive. The turkey club and onion rings my guest ordered were good, however. By the time we wanted the check, there were three more tables, a two top, a five top and a four top. We noted they were seated and got menus and drinks faster. The server finally arrived and took my AARP card and then we waited another 15 minutes, finally going to the register to get it. Mr. Either Hovering or Vanished offered my a glass of water to go, although he'd never made an appearance to ask if anyone needed refills. Had he not been in possession of my card, I was actually tempted to do something I've never done, walk a check. I confess I've never failed to leave a tip before, but as my friend said, we should have written "you owe us" on the check. Yes, the old fashioned diner decor is cute, but it would help to have even adequate service. Had our waiter moved any slower, I might have started CPR. Other Denny's here seem to do much better and the food even seems better at others. This Denny's had recently served me a platter that had more empty cast iron than the veggies I was expecting. I never want to eat here again. We spent at least an hour total simply waiting with very few customers. This Denny's sucks. The only thing even remotely likable is the fact that it's one of the "classic diner" style buildings, otherwise I'd simply recommend that it be burnt down, and the ground beneath be sprinkled with salt. The food was terrible, the service worse, and it was like 11 degrees inside. I work an overnight shift and used to live a few blocks away and in the year i lived there I preferred to ride my scooter, in the rain, to somewhere in the Montrose area, than come to this place. one stars is quite possibly the highest this place will every get. and honestly, its more like a .5 than a 1. why? well, the physical place was not DIRTY from what i could see. it seemed pretty tamed, and i guess the other reviews were somewhat old so theyve cleaned the place up a bit since then. didnt see any ants, so i thanked my lucky stars for that. the food TASTED decent. tastes just like any other dennys. i had the ultimate skillet, cheesy fries, and a sprite. i was taken aback a bit when they waiter let the skillet spew out steam and smoke all over the place at our table. usually they let it air off a bit before slapping it in front of us to avoid having patrons bask in the ambiance of smoke. i hope i dont smell like that all day today. *shudders* now the reason why ive emphasized that it TASTED decent, is because im not so sure how decent the food actually is. about 30 minutes after i left, i started getting this nauseous, sinking feeling. then suddenly i was overcome by headaches. and then become extremely nauseous, the food doesnt feel like its digesting right, im calling it upset stomache and it feels like the bought of food poisoning i once had. pretty sure i can blame the food because well, thats the only thing ive eaten all morning. all in all, if you can avoid it, go elsewhere! if its early, try the barbacoa tacos at the stripes across the street! and if its late, hats off to any brave soul wanting to come in and get food poisoning from this place. read more

Ordered unsweet tea as I am diabetic and got the sugariest sweet tea ever. Brought it to the servers attention, and she came back five minutes later and said The tea had been mislabeled. I then ordered a bowl of the cheddar broccoli soup and some garlic bread. The soup came to the table as if it had been dumped out of the can and mixed with water. It hadn't even been stirred, so there were globules of cheese floating in cloudy water. I couldn't believe it. I ended up stirring it with my fork to make it edible. And believe it or not, the garlic bread was only toasted on one side and tasted as if it were almost going moldy. After the food was delivered to my table, we never saw the server again. This is on of the worst Denny's I've ever been to in 15 years of life in Houston. I've been to better ones but we stopped by this because we had just gotten out of the hospital appointment for my grandma. We walked in got greeted nicely, sifted, and the waitress took our orders of drinks(I was with my grandmother and mother) it too then about 10 minutes for some simply coffees and a milkshake. Then we got our drink and we weren't finished choosing our meal so the girl gave us more time which was way to much we sat there for about 20 minutes to the girl to come back and take our order. The appetizer wasn't really good the wing and the cheese balls were to burnt. After that it took more than half an hour to get out order and it cold when we got our food. My grandmother and mother's eggs were raw and disgusting af. And my chicken I order was raw and very chewy which was awful. And after we discussed how nasty the food was the girl finally came back after just letting us sit there with no napkins. I asked for the napkins and she never came back with the some fuckin napkins. When we supposedly finish eating the guy picking up the waste came by and asked us if we had finish. (He speak Spanish so my mother and grandmother were able to take to him) He said the he knew hot horrible the service was but the manger didn't anything about and that the manager just got mad and him and his brother who also worked there. So the guy ended up finishing the other stupid girl job We left no tip to the girl but we had gave the guy and tip because he didn't a better job than anyone in the restaurant. When we were going to check out I had notice that the manager was at the cashier place so I decided to tell him how horrible the service was in that place and it was nothing compared to other Denny's I've been to in Houston. Then the girl that attended us at the beginning decided to come in the conversation to ask "what happened" so I just told her in her face that the service was shitty and that she never brought some stupid napkins to our table. So she just say "I went over there 3 times" but like the second time she went there we ask for napkins but she never brought them. And we had a little napkins because my mom got them off another table because we needed them. She wanted to an attitude with me but i mean I was ready to throw some punches because she was getting to close to me which is very disrespectful to the costumer.
