Cruiser Coffee (Organic) - That's some bitter coffee. It's not sweet, but it has a residual candy-like taste that resembles something I can't quite recall. It's also strong--like it goes as hard as my Vietnamese coffee. My eyes started twitching about half a cup in. Love it. Fresh Orange Juice - OH YEAH. My orange juice connoisseur BFF gave it the thumbs-up of approval. We asked for a glass of ice, and it elevated the drink. Steak and Green Eggs (BFF) - Wow. Those green eggs--what's in them? What is in them? Delicious with buttered toast. The potatoes were perfectly crisp, and that steak? Seasoned so well, super fragrant, and moist. For a breakfast steak, it's great. Admittedly, it was lathered in butter. Annie's Low-Fat, High Protein Burrito - Not my favorite. It tasted a bit too healthy after that incredible steak, but as the flavor lingered, it grew on me. My favorite part was definitely the beans, which came through exceptionally clean. Lox Platter w. Everything Bagel - Exactly what the menu promised with high-quality ingredients. They were VERY generous with the capers, and I'm grateful for that. Refreshing, even with the two containers of cream cheese (I only used one). What a great Sunday brunch! We came around noon and although was peak time, the line moved quick. Able to get a table inside for 2 after about 10 minutes. May be harder for groups larger than 4 people. Lots of great menu classics - chicken fried steak, chicken and waffles, migas. I got Bob's Healthy Plate (sub fruit for potatoes) and was really delicious. Chicken sausage was great. Potatoes perfectly crispy. The coffee was good too, only black coffee option available. The breakfast potatoes are their best item. Baby Barnaby's is the little restaurant on the side of Barnaby's that serves breakfast, before the regular Barnaby's opens. I was surprised to find a lengthy wait when I arrived on a Monday (holiday) for breakfast. Inside the restaurant, it's small and tightly packed with diner tables, but nice wall decor. The menu had typical American breakfast fare. We ordered the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs ($14.95) and the Breakfast Plate ($13.95). The Breakfast Plate came with two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and biscuit. The potatoes were plentiful, crispy and delicious. The biscuit had honey on it...I liked it. The eggs and bacon were good. The Corned Beef Hash was just okay. There were thin, small pieces of corned beef scattered among a sea of good breakfast potatoes. The dish was topped with two fried eggs and toast. It felt like I just ordered egg, potatoes, and toast because there wasn't much corned beef. They also had outdoor seating, but it was raining pretty heavy that day. I have been to a few of the Barnaby's locations, but I have to say that this is my favorite. I don't know why I haven't been here sooner since it's close to home. A friend recommended Baby Barnaby's for brunch. I love breakfast food, so this was up my alley. We were concerned because it was a holiday, and they typically are open 7 am - 12 noon Monday - Friday and 8 am - 2 pm on the weekends. The patio seating is open on the weekends to dine. Since it was a Monday, and we planned on meeting at 11:15 am, we took a chance to see if they would still have the kitchen open. I arrived first and walked in at the "OG" location next door. It was so packed, but the guy was helpful in letting me know that the kitchen was still open and that this side had limited breakfast and a lunch menu, and Baby Barnaby's had breakfast all day with more options. I was happy to know they were still accepting customers. There's a small, rocky lot and street parking available. We walked through the connecting area and signed our name on the clipboard and waited in the covered patio area until they called each name in order. We waited about 20 minutes before we were seated, and 20 minutes before closing. The booth seats along the wall were comfortable to dine in. It was a small dining space but seemed to be filled with happy customers enjoying their food. I ran into a high school friend and his fiancé as they were leaving and inquired about what to get. She recommended the green eggs and to sub toast for their biscuits. That's exactly what I ordered plus fresh OJ. The food that was taken to us the first time wasn't ours, and we politely told the person delivering that it wasn't ours. Our food came out in under 20 minutes from being seated and ordering. I particularly enjoyed everything on my green eggs plate and appreciated the huge portion. The green eggs was like a soft scramble, which I prefer, and had spinach, artichoke hearts and cheese. It was served with an abundance of seasoned cubed breakfast potatoes, chicken apple sausage cut open faced in half and 2 buttery biscuits. Everything was so good. I ate half of that plate and took the rest home which made for another great meal. The orange juice was sweet and fresh squeezed via a machine. They filled it to the top of the glass. My friend ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes that came with fresh berries, soft butter and syrup on the side. The pancakes were so buttery and really didn't need the butter or syrup with the dash of powdered sugar and fruits. I typically don't like citrus pastries or desserts, but the lemon flavor was not overpowering. These are part of their seasonal fruit pancakes. I would like to try their red velvet or regular buttermilk pancakes next time. We weren't rushed to eat even after it was past noon. There were still plenty of diners there. A big group left, and they were greeted for stopping by. On the way out, the guy I spoke to at the "OG" Barnaby's even opened the door and thanked us as we walked past to the parking lot. So nice! This place has been my go to spot for years. The breakfast hits every time. It's a place to go to when you want a decent delicious breakfast without the instagrammable crowd. You just want good food and a diner experience. It's consistent, the staff is friendly and super accommodating, and the overall experience is always going to be a positive one. You will eat goooood! The main draw for this place is the staff. They're absolutely hilarious on point and funny. They will keep you entertained the other reason to come. Is the people watching the customers are eclectic and interesting. The food is yummy. The coffee is hot and the service is very good. Come for breakfast and come for the show. Baby Barnaby's provides con-sis-ten-cy. To be sitted, still need to sign in on paper, located by their kitchen door outside and wait (very patiently!) for your turn. Groups more than 4 are very complex to be sitted because of the small space. On a great weather day, choose for either sitting outside or inside. Menu is the same, nothing new, nothing less. We do have our go to and tend to order the same. That is: - green eggs: for the healthy kick of eggs + spinach. - migas: for the little kick of tomatoes - french toast or pancakes : dependent on the sweet tooth level (or mood really) - fresh squeezed orange juice !! A friend invited me here on my last day in Houston. It was a sad occasion, but this place brightened our spirits. We had a bit of a wait; that alone told me we were in for some good eating. Once inside, we both ordered the chicken and waffles and were pleased. The waffles were cooked to a golden brown. The chicken was big, crispy pieces, with a crunch with every bite. It's such a huge dish we ended up taking to-go-home boxes. But getting back to the decor that caught my eye. The colors inside and outside were brown and yellow with touches of green. The restroom had pictures of dogs on the wall. The server told me the restaurant was named after the owner's childhood dog and that there's a doggie menu in honor of him, too. The other reviews about poor service are spot on. I go to the regular Barnaby's locations frequently, and think the food is quite nice. However, this brunch specific part of Barnabys is not run well at all. They forced you to sit in the heat while they make you wait. They actively try not to sit people because they don't want to have to serve. One hostess could fix the problem instantly. It's a shame because I'm such a Barnaby's Glazer lol. I want to love this place and go like every weekend. But I will never ever ever try again. read more

Random thought for breakfast, I dined here once three years ago with a friend. This visit was a solo experience. Visited for what I thought would be a great breakfast experience. Unfortunately, that was far from the experience I received so I honestly didn't stay. I entered and asked what the seating approach was as there were only 3 tables seated and at least 6 empty tables. Things went left when I was told to go outside in such a demeaning tone and left outside with no other communication. Nobody came outside so, honestly that was enough for me to not dine here. The service is excellent and for a moment, you feel as tho you are at your Grandma's house and she has cooked up the food just for you! I had never been to Houston before, so we spent the day mapping out our visits and we settled on the Montrose area. Kinda reminds me of Melrose or Fairfax in LA but much more "cutty". The other part that struck me was how diverse it was. There were maybe a dozen people outside waiting to be seated of all shapes, colors, and sizes. When we were gallivanting around the greater Houston area, I was thinking cowboy boots and 40 gallon hats. Instead we got chuck Taylor's and booty shorts. I was like okay, this is my vibe. Baby Barns is a really cozy, kinda tight place. It's not a place you wanna take a party of more than 4 or 5. But if you're hungry and in need of a shopping break or want something a little less commercial then Baby B's is the spot, especially if you don't wanna wait in the Breakfast Klub line until Thanksgiving. But the area surrounding it is beautiful, old timey southern homes with those signature front porches and white painted facades and even comes with cobblestone streets: it's southern Charm with a little gentrification. This is in a diverse neighborhood where all types are welcome so if you're not into "That Kinda stuff" you're probably just better off at Cracker Barrel. The inside of this restaurant is tiny and can get a little noisy, but the staff running this place are very efficient and navigate the space smoothly. Luckily we were able to be seated right way inside, but they do have covered outdoor seating as well. I had the awesome lemon ricotta pancake, eggs, grits, and chicken apple sausage. Everything was really awesome, but my favorite item was the delicious lemon ricotta pancake the size of my plate. So soft and fluffy! On a rainy Thursday morning, we wanted breakfast after our flight and this spot came up. As the name states, smaller, cozy interior with a decent sized outdoor seating area. Looks like a local chain with a handful of locations. A couple of tables were an open so we followed the sign and "Sat ourselves." Simple and to the point menu. We started with their Organic Coffee. Strong, bold and hit the spot. We ordered a couple of entrees to share. Green Eggs, happens to be a house speciality, was amazing! Artichoke hearts in eggs-who knew?! Order this one -you won't regret it. French Toast was solid and enjoyed. Potatoes accompanied the eggs and portion was huge so no need to order extra. The best thing about our visit was the waiter. He was fun and engaging ;nice personality. We ordered the green eggs and you can see by the photograph ,that over half of the plate is the inexpensive cubed potatoes that have no seasoning on them ,and are very hard on the edges. Neither of us wanted the sausage that came with this plate,and nothing else was offered in its place, they gave us one piece of toast ,which seemed like it was stale before it was even toasted, it was very dry. The eggs had a lack of flavor ,consistency, and really seem very much like powdered eggs. They are supposed to be green with added vegetables, but there were so few vegetables in them that you really couldn't see any green.
