So my husband and I were meeting up with someone from Facebook Market place to make a purchase and the person gave us this address to meet. Anyway, after meeting them, I decided not to purchase the item...but because we were parked in front of the Chase bank and right next to the Black Walnut, we decided to try it out, since we were both hungry... We walked into the place and were greeted. The person advised that we can sit anywhere that was available and decided to sit near the front area next to their large windows. There's an out door patio area as well, which was also crowded for a Saturday mid morning/early afternoon time frame. So there's 2 ways to order...you can either use the QR Cod that's in the tables or walk up and order with someone at the podium near the kitchen area. They do advertise that they are cashless so just make sure you're aware!! The order went pretty quick and the cashier was very polite and friendly, with this being our first time here. She was able to answer a few of my questions about the menu. And to my surprise they also offer a MILITARY DISCOUNT of 10% - which many other places do not, like KATZ near Bunker Hill. Some made our order and she gave us our drinks (a coffee mug for my coffee order and 2 glasses for water. Since hubby ordered OJ, they brought that over from the bar. The food came out shortly after. I ordered the Avocado toast and Hubs ordered the Texas Breakfast. I totally forgot to take photos and devoured the food once it arrived to our table. Hubs thought that the Texas Breakfast was great and cleared his plate just as quickly as I did. We'd come here again, definitely better quality of food compared to your Dennys or Katz...but the only problem was how you order the food, weather it's ordering through the QR Code or standing in a line to order your food. There were so many servers clearing off empty plates that it almost seemed like a restaurant where someone takes your order...I guess it works for them because the entire time we were there, it was busy. Parking was secured with ease during brunch hours. Very open concept with various seating options inside and exterior. Excellent customer service from the time we walked in til the time we departed. Let me start by saying my experience was extremely disappointing from the moment I ordered. I asked for no onions on my veggie fajitas, and Mia responded with, "Oh, you want corn?" I clarified again that I said no onions, and somehow she still brought my order with extra onions AND charged me an additional 50 cents for them. I asked to switch to a Caesar salad instead, and she brought me a side Caesar salad without asking or confirming. At that point I let it go, but I was already frustrated. I've visited this restaurant multiple times for lunch, and every single time I've paid, the staff has asked for my phone number to apply loyalty points. Each time they smiled and told me, "Great, you're getting points!" Today, Mia told me my number wasn't in their system at all. I explained that was impossible, I was literally there yesterday, and previously, and each time I was told my points were being added. She brought over the manager (the Hispanic woman), who had me write my number down on a napkin because repeating it three times apparently wasn't enough. She went to the back because she claimed the front system wasn't working, yet I watched Mia take other customers' numbers with no issue. Then a male manager came over and told me again that I wasn't in their system. He asked me to repeat my phone number yet again and even suggested that I log in to my bank and provide them the dates and times I've visited. I told him, "Or maybe you can look it up by my card number and the transactions in your system," which clearly embarrassed him, he turned bright red and walked away. I reminded them that on all three of my previous visits, the staff told me, "Great, thank you, you're accruing points now!" I waited 20 minutes. At that point, I felt my meal should have been comped based on how poorly everything had been handled, but it wasn't. I finally just asked to pay and leave. The issue here is simple: I was repeatedly told I was earning points, and I wasn't. That's misleading. On top of that, the customer service was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional at every step. What is going on here? Please train your employees and managers better. read more

This is my first time back since the renovation. It definitely has a new (trendier) vibe. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter and they will bring your order to you. Awesome brunch spot, but of course they have breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have a pre-fix menu. Desserts and cocktails as well. For food choices, they have a bit of everything to suit anyone. The food is pretty solid. This could be a spot for anything, date, friends and or family. Food came out fairly quickly and staff checked on us to remove items we were finished with. Free two hour parking in the attached garage, or you can pay to park on the street or lot. Weekends during lunch can be busy, so plan ahead. The village can be hectic, Black Walnut has several other locations if you're looking for easier parking options. read more

And although you order at the counter, I'd say they bridge the gap between fast casual and full service. They're both classy and casual, spacious and intimate, a restaurants of positive contradictions. While I personally have a love hate relationship with this restaurant (particularly the woodlands location) they're certainly a staple to the community, and worth a stop in if you've never been! This particular location has a darling covered patio with fans, and heaters depending on what's needed, and with all of their locations ample seating as well as a variety of seating options to choose from. I remember coming here so often back in the day when I used to run in the rice village area. The place is newly renovated with a lovely interior and I feel like lesser room inside than before. Not sure why it feels like that but I miss the old look. I guess I am not a fan of change. I would probably give it four stars normally but the coffee is so blah! It lacks all the flavor you would expect from a latte from a breakfast spot like black walnut. Conversely, their drip coffee is absolutely amazing! I had the crab cake benedict which was great but then my partner's Texas breakfast wasn't prepared the way that he requested. The cashier said that they cannot prepare eggs besides over soft, medium, or hard. Overall, this is still the black walnut cafe that I remember. However, the smiley, friendly faces are now nowhere to be found. The whole process feels very mechanical and automated (even though it's still human operated). The structure is you order your food, pay, and then find a place to sit. Menu's are at the very front when you walk in, so we grabbed a menu and made our decisions. I ordered birria enchiladas because it sounded different and I figured why not. After paying, I took a seat and waited for my meal. I do like that your food is delivered to your table and once my plate arrived I immediately chowed it down. This was a FANTASTIC meal. The only "complaint" I have is that I wished I could have more. The portions aren't over-the-top big, but they are hearty and will keep you full for a few hours. I can see why this place is so popular. It is quick (ya'll, I ordered and ate in less than 30 minutes!!!) and one of the best breakfasts I've had in Houston to date. Definitely will be back to try some other options. read more

They still have the morning glory muffins, which tend to be good and are my favorite pastry that they serve. Do not get the carrot cake. It is not worth it.
