I know, I know, it's Denny's...but let me explain. First off, we started off going to the Red Lobster across the street, that was almost empty yet had a ten minute wait(not a good sign that we would be getting good service). So I suggest (loudly so the RL staff could here clearly I was not impressed with a ten minute wait for seating in an empty restaurant) we go across the street to, you guessed it, "Denny's" on College St. All three of my rug rats and my better half were quite happy with my suggestion and literally ran out of RL for the car. Five minutes later we were enthusiastically received and seated at Denny's(1st Star). I made my two idiots (AKA our Boy's) go to the bathroom to wash their hands, and this is the only reason why I couldn't give 5 Stars on this visit. The bathroom smelled a bit off, but was clean, however one sink had only hot water and the other sink had only cold water (this needs to be fixed ASAP (loss of 1st Star). Ok ok ok, rant over. Time to sit at our large booth. Idiot 1 and Idiot 2 sat on either side of me, yet I had lots of elbow room (2nd Star). Shannon came over smiling and happy ( she wasn't even high on pot like 95% of the servers I've had in WA state) to introduce herself and take our drink orders, and get this, fill them and bring them back to the table in less than two minutes (Holy S#/+ fast service, what a novel idea), then immediately took our order. The rest of my gang placed their orders. I got a fancy looking cheeseburger and to test the wait/cook staff, I had a specific item (the flame broiled bell peppers) not included (bell peppers are the Devils food). Food order placed, cooked, delivered in about ten minutes, and get this "No Devils food to be seen anywhere near my burger"(3rd Star). Alright, now the big test, the "Taste". The Idiots destroyed their chocolate chip pancakes w/ bacon and sausage (I think they licked the plates). Our teen ate, I mean scarfed down, all of her French Crapes and eggs with hash browns (not quite sure if she tasted them). My better half had some sort of healthy looking chicken and broccoli / potato skillet (she usually leaves one bite for me, but not tonight). Then I bit into this glorious bacon, cheddar cheese, mushroom, hand formed, griddle fried, juicy magnificent burger on a toasted cheddar brioche bun and just the right amount of toppings. It was perfect and unexpected. Thank you, Shannon and the cook staff!!! (4th Star) Every bite of food was eaten tonight. Then I got the check, a whopping $38 for all five of us. Surprise the idiots got to eat for free because it was Tuesday. We walked out the door, full, happy, satisfied, and talking about how great the service was. All that and out the door for less than $50. (5th Star). We will be back!! Thanks RL for having a 10 minute wait in an empty restaurant. He answered the phone as if my call was bothering him and when I told him that I would like to play an order, he took a breath as if annoyed and said, "I'll have to go and get a server to take your order, but just so you know, that will be a while". When I first moved to the West Coast I thought Denny's was kind of cool and retro, but knew the quality of the food would be average at best. I have rarely gone as time moved on, and yet in a pinch I wouldn't turn away. But I did lower my expectations. However.... Finding a few breakfast alternatives in this neck of the woods isn't easy and on this particular morning those places were crowded. So being somewhat in a hurry we went to this Denny's. Yes there was a good crowd too but we were able to find seats at the counter right away. I have to say that being at the counter was interesting in that one really gets to see the operation first hand, but in this case I probably would not have wanted to see it. First off the counter was quite obviously dirty and noone bothered to clean it. I finally had to ask for something to do it myself. It took awhile to take our order and I have to feel sorry for the staff because they were working darn hard and in some cases struggling. Orders were flying out but many sat on the counter for some time. Ever more disturbing was how dirty and unkempt the back counter and floor appeared. The scoops of butter, or was it whipped cream (?), ending up on pancakes and waffles looked disgusting, especially from the tub it was taken. Then the wait staff would bring back dirty dishes, fingers in the plates and then pick up fresh newly prepared plates to deliver to tables with the same fingers on plates. Are there no cross contamination concerns? I saw what looked like my order, an egg skillet, sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be picked up for what appeared to be a minute, then two, then five, and then seven; and yes after sitting pretty for a way long time got delivered to me. The handle was so grossly dirty I cringed to touch it. Admittedly the skillet dish was tasty and O.K. and the eggs well prepared (the one star) but the toast was dry, cold, and hard by time it reached me. No butter was avaialble or offered, and I was not going to ask for a scoop from the tub! Nor were any condiments offered (I would have liked some hot sauce) but the dish was plopped in front of me and the wait person gone in a flash. The wait person actually seemed stretched and a bit surly. The check sure arrived in a hurry, just after delivery of the food, Hope you don't want anything more. Water and coffee was never refilled and we were never asked if everything is O.K, I really don't like being a snob but I couldn't wait to leave, and I doubt this will assist in making me desire a retro Denny's return for a very long time. People always warn me not go order anything from Denny's other than pancakes. After this visit, I now understand. I ordered a chicken burger, and waited 45 minutes for my meal. It was not a busy day, my boyfriend and I were one of two couples in at the time. Finally the food arrived and it looked delicious. The chicken on my burger was a lot thinner on one side, so I started with that and it was really good. But about half way through, the chicken more than doubled in size and thickness, and was completely raw. I spit out what was in my mouth and my boyfriend got the attention of the server. The cook said he would remake my meal, but I was feeling sick and had absolutely no appetite. So instead they didn't make me pay for either meal. After getting sick the next day, my boyfriend called to talk to a manager, and she said that they would send us two gift cards in the mail. Both of us felt okay with this outcome, until the mail came and the two "gift cards" was just one free grand slam... Today I called to place a To go order for the turkey dinner for 2 elderly disabled people that can't go anywhere and can't cook. I called Denny's after 1 grueling hour of calling and getting dial tone, I finally got ahold of a person named Kimberly, she is the hostess I guess, very rude and condescending person. I asked for information on the turkey dinner and the sides it has and after much mumbling and bad attitude she placed me on hold and hung up. I called again all pleasant and asked one more about the turkey dinner and if I could place an order to go, She kept insisting this to go turkey dinner was only for dine in and not to go at all, after questioning her reasoning since whenever you go there you always get a to go box if you don't finish your meal, it just didn't make any sense to me, she placed me on another long hold, to my surprise I went to the hold abyss and got "disconnected" So as a stubborn second chance type of person I called again and asked about the turkey dinner to go option and guess what? Yep she placed me on the longest hold of my life to supposedly find out if this was true or not, so after 8 minutes on hold another woman answered surprised we were on hold and asked if we were helped.... yeah... we'll after much sighing I requested the information and assistance as this dinner was for elderly disabled people with no family. She placed our order and was ready when we got there. Very painful phone order experience, I felt like I had to chase that turkey l, kill it, pluck it and cook it in order to get these elderly folks a Xmas meal. The Dennys in New york is nothing compared to this welcoming and homey feeling restaurant. Our waitress Patty made me feel like my mother was severing me. Always checking up on me and double checking that everything was alright. My boyfriend and I ordered the custom grand slam and we were shocked at the amount of food that was placed on our table. I was a bit skeptical as I walked in the door. I don't mind a good meal from Denny's every now and then. Except Denny's can be hit and miss. We arrived just after a huge rush. As we had to wait for tables to be wiped down. And it was Labor Day weekend--so I was OK with that. Our party ordered "the new" Kale Salad and a double cheeseburger. And our waitress (Chloe) made our Kale Salad at according to her it was her first time making a kale salad. It was delicious! I am a big fan of kale and I know that kale can be hard to prepare for most people. I would give our waitress a 9 1/2 out of 10 on the kale salad. The double cheeseburger was huge! And I thought...oh no. "Big" food must not taste good. As I am familiar with many restaurants that give you large portions but the food is bland or just ehhhhhhhh. Well, this sandwich was amazing! While we were waiting for our food, I overheard 2 people describe their sandwiches as "amazing" and "the best I have ever had". I thought, folks 'round here must not eat to good. I mean, geez! It's just Denny's right? Then I took a bite out of my sandwich. The sandwich was cooked perfectly! And it was cooked at a medium rare tone that was perfect. Many people think that if a burger has a bit of pink in the meat it's done. Well,,,I won't get into that except to say that was indeed the best burger I have had in a loooooonnnnnnnngggggggg time! I did not even use much of my mayo and ketchup dipping recipe (for added flavors just in case) on the side. Yep! I was cheated, I was tricked! The Chefs behind the counter (including Chloe) were obviously seasoned and very good cooks. I mean, I am a professional Chef so I think I know a thing about food. Our waitress Chloe had a beautiful personality and such a sweet spirit. She and the other guy who welcomed use seemed to be so humble. I mean, when we walked in to start, I asked the gentleman to seat us at a particular place in the restaurant. Which happened to be a dirty table. He didn't hesitate to clean the table. Then, we changed our minds a decided to take a seat at a table that was clean. Instead of getting an attitude, the guy continued to smile and informed Chloe we would be sitting in her table instead. Some places will spit in your food if you are vocal about what you want. We felt really good about being comfortable in this place. I am gonna' give this place 5 stars mainly because of the service. You know what you get here...no surprises. How you rate these places is on the service and whether you need to run home after the meal and straight to the bathroom. Food is your typical diner food nothing special. It's very cheap so you get your money's worth. If you're on a budget check out their 2-4-6-8-10 menu where they have meals for those prices. The skillets are always a good go to if your feeling food other than breakfast but they do have decent breakfast. The staff in this location are amazing and very attentive. Sadly, just had one of the worst experiences ever at a Denny's. no coffee refills without begging, cold eggs, cold toast, took long time to get served and get the food brought out, multiple people around us had very bad service so much so that I heard I'm sorry we'll get that fixed at least 8 times at 5 tables. Very disappointed with this visit. I've been here 3 or 4 times and usually it's fine. I arrived here at 10:45 am on Sunday morning, we were sat down and not a single person helped us, lots of employees looked at me and my family but 20 minutes had gone by and still.... nothing, not even a waiter or waitress to ask us what we wanted to drink. This is why I always check the food. Last Saturday, we went to Lemon Grass restaurant here in Lacey and we found a piece of hair in our food and this is the reason why I don't trust any restaurant. I will not return to this Denny's after the way my daughter and I were treated last week. I am sad; this has been our favorite Denny's for over eight years. Here was our experience: We went out for my birthday during a weekday, at 8:30 p.m. The restaurant was less than one-third full when we arrived and never got busier. I did not want my free birthday Grand Slam for dinner and asked to have it to go at the end of the meal. Our waitress told us we were not allowed to take it out of the restaurant. My daughter had ordered a steak and eggs, but after being told the free birthday Grand Slam breakfast had to stay, my daughter said she would eat my breakfast meal and have the steak and eggs to go instead. When the waitress asked her what four items she wanted for the Grand Slam, my daughter asked for the buttermilk biscuit as one of the items. And this is where the meal went bizarrely south: "Are you sure you really want that? I have to make that biscuit myself," the waitress said. I was freaking dumbfounded. When my daughter (sheepishly) said she did want the biscuit, the waitress was not pleased. When our meals came, the steak and eggs take-out came with them. I smelled something burnt and told my daughter I thought someone burned something in the kitchen. My daughter and I were too full to finish our meals and appetizer. Over half of the nachos and my fish were still left, as was the garlic toast that came with the Grand Slam. My daughter wanted to take the toast, even though we were told we could not take the Grand Slam outside, so I told my daughter to switch the basic toast in the steak and eggs meal with the garlic toast. When she opened the take-out container, we realized what we had smelled -- the toast in the bottom of the container was blackened. We would not have seen it until we got home if we had not looked. We switched out the toasts and left the burnt toast on the table. The waitress handed us the bill without asking if we wanted coffee or cake or dessert. She did not bring take-out containers. She did not refill our drinks a single time, and I had gone through my iced tea much earlier in the meal. In fact, after she set the bill down in the middle of our dinner, she never came back. She stood around a while and then was seated with another table next to us. I heard her tell one of the customers at that table that she had to make the buttermilk biscuit, too. We waited to see if she would come back, at least to give us take-out containers. We sat for a bit. We took turns going to the bathroom. She never returned, even though she only had a few tables. We left the nachos and the fish. I tip twenty percent on the average, but you would think that I was a total deadbeat by the way she treated us. When we paid, she refused to give me my military discount, citing the birthday breakfast as the reason. So between extremely poor service, having buttermilk biscuit guilt bestowed upon us, being refused our military discount, and the slowly dropping quality of the food in the past year, we are done with this Denny's for good. I don't know if the place switched owners, or management, or if a new corporate entity bought it, but the restaurant is not what it once was. If I am in that part of Lacey again and am hungry, I will be going across the street to Shari's. read more

I will begin with I used to go to the Denny's off exit 125 - mcchord gate exit. I loved the staff, the food was good, and they were always on top of their game. I never felt like I was an inconvenience to them. Due to relocation we have tried this Denny's. I have been there 6 times in the last 8 months. The service is not good. They treat you like an inconvenience and instead of them waiting on you, you wait on them. The first time it seemed like the waitresses were over worked, maybe they were just super busy.. I was just in there and that was not the case. My waiter had two tables, that's including mine. He didn't come to our table to ask about drinks for about 5 minutes. My waiter went outside multiple times during our dinner. I wouldn't even mind if My glass wasnt empty basically the entire time. I used to wait tables so I know that it can be stressful but there was no reason for the service to be so awful. The manager took care of our bill, yes but I won't be going back to this one. The first time we went to this Denny's our experience was rather pleasant, which was a bit shocking for us because every Denny's we have gone to (different states even, due to travels) the customer service was horrible. But our first time dining here before they remodeled was pleasant, the waiter we had was attentive and didn't look like he hated being there. (Seriously, there are some Denny's employees out there that look like they don't want to be there and hate their jobs! I'm sure they have their reasons). I wish I remembered his name, I remember what he looks like a bit, but not the name. Anyways, the past couple times we've been here since they have remodeled hasn't been as pleasant. My husband would be lucky to get a refill on his drink before we finish our food. Our most recent trip here, the waitress was quite intent on selling drinks(such as beer, lemonade) & appetizers when she first came over to our table to get our drink order. After she brought our drink over it was well over 13mins and she has not returned to take our meal orders; our menus were closed, the restaurant wasn't busy, instead she was just standing there chatting with the rest of the staff. She probably wouldn't have gone over to our table for another good 5mins or so if she had not seen me staring at her wondering why she is not paying attention to her tables. And when we finally received our food, the burger my husband has ordered, the bottom bun was literally cut in half! His burger pretty much fell apart on him. My food was barely warm. Also their high chairs are filthy! They clean the tables and chairs but they DO NOT pay attention to the high chairs. They don't clean it at all. Oh and one more thing, they have advertised on their door that they do a military discount, husband showed ID to the manager for proof and did not give him a discount. Yea yea, some of you will go on about why complain over a small discount. It's the fact that they have it advertised on their door and they don't honor it. Could have at least said something such as if they no longer do the discount or something. Anyways, I do believe that will be our last trip to this Denny's. The inside might be nice, but the staff is horrible. read more

Please let me prevent you from making this mistake. Just look up zesty nachos, All American burger and moons over my hammy and compare them to what we got. The burger wasn't just pink but cold in the middle with not chewable tendon, the nachos had no toppings and the hash browns were only skim cooked on top and absolutely raw in the middle ( if the pile was even thick enough to have a middle). In addition, the Moons over my Hammy was completely not toasted. If the pictures don't save you from this robbery maybe the description will! If we weren't so hungry,out of options and desperate we would not have eaten any of it! read more

It's a Denny's, so it's what you can expect. However, I ordered appetizers for the table and the chicken was pink in the middle. The hostess saw and returned it to the kitchen and brought 4 more out. Not currently impressed given that there were at most 5 other parties in the entire diner. I ordered the Santa Fe skillet, and an orange juice. My wife ordered some eggs with toast and a strawberry lemonade. I ordered my skillet with scrambled eggs and received over easy eggs on my skillet, the hostess took my skillet back to amend this issue. My lactose intolerant friend ordered a lumberjack slam and it had room temperature ham as if it was not freshly cooked, and scrambled eggs WITHOUT cheese and they served him cheese, and his toast was undercooked and not toasted. Now I am stuck eating food while my friends are done eating. Then when my friend inquired about an orange juice refill they indicated they wouldn't be charging us for the refill given the mistakes already made. My other friend ordered a moons over my hammy sandwich with hashbrowns, his hashbrowns were undercooked and soft as in soggy. Of the 4 meals only my wife's food was adequate and she only ordered a simple meal. I ended up not eating due to a loss of appetite after everything. Afterwards I spoke to the manager, I had every intention of paying for the meal in it's entirety. Despite the entire experience, the manager took my name down and indicated I would be comped a meal next time if I decide to go there again. I thanked him, and left the establishment. read more

Service :4 stars Food: 2 stars (bacon was seriously nasty) Total: 3 stars So....I stumbled into this place at about 2am. I was hungry as all hell, and drunk as all hell as well. Place has a Diner feel too it...I cant go into specifics really cause again...I was really tossed. I do remember sitting at a stool ordering food at a bar. I believe I was in the lounge. I got breakfast thinking my wife may want food....my goodness the stupid stuff you think of when your hammered. Anyhow, I bought 2 breakfasts and struggled to keep my head up waiting for my food. Not that the service was slow...but yes, again I will say I was drunk. When I got back I remember the bacon having the consistency of fruit by the foot...the pancakes and eggs with syrup were AWESOME....I give 90% credit too the booze for that flavor boost. And that was about it. It's Denny's...Cant vary that much from location to location, but they were really nice here, like Mike C. said...They were nice to his friend who was drunk.
