My husband always wanted to go to this Denny's because of the fantastic, scenic location right off etc. 80. Well, someone should really put a fantastic establishment there with large windows so you can enjoy the view while you are eating....could not really see a view where we were seated which was closer to the restrooms. The restaurant really needs some redecorating....very worn, but very, very clean. The staff was very friendly and provided fast service. Our california club sandwiches with FF were excellent!!! Made with all very fresh ingedients. The bread was a multigran that was very good and the bacon was hot and crispy. The FF came out piping hot. Pretty low expectations for Dennys. Keep the coffee coming and bring the food on time. Somehow even though the place wasnt that busy the management and staff were constantly frantic. The food was late and poorly cooked. The coffee cup sat unfilled and the waitress never asked to refill it. We were missing forks and napkins but even after a request for more, they never came. We kinda had to go and get the stuff ourselves. Not sure what the dealio is here. If the outside looks like this what does the kitchen look like! read more

I have been to many dinners that serve breakfast, but the Dennys in Newcastle has been the most horrid restaurant I have been to in my existence on this planet. I walked in and was sourly greeted by a waiter and aggressively walked to a booth that had not been cleaned yet with my two friends. A strange sweet smell came from the booth as we sat down on the sticky seats after wiping them down to the best of our ability. We ordered our food and were forced to wait an hour, and when it got to our table, it was the wrong dishes and we were forced to wait another 30 minutes. Our dishes were bland and flavorless and on top of all of that it was not warn. This is not a dinner that I recommend anyone goes too. This has been one of the worst experiences I have had in a while. Compared to the other dinners like IHOP or other Dennys in fact, this is substantially worse. read more

(sigh)... I'm giving up one of my best kept secrets here... My husband and I enjoy this Denny's every weekend and we order the same meal every time. To the point that Rudy (the manager) auto-seats us at our usual table out of habit. We found this to be quite endearing and this type of response towards repeat customers is a lost art. It's just one of the reasons why we tend to stick with this Denny's. Additionally, no matter how often we order the same dish... it will taste exactly the way we expect. This Denny's is consistent. This is a routine we have come to enjoy as a couple over a cup of joe, good conversation and primo people-watching as sometimes hilarity will ensue (smh... humans). Anyway... besides the point. Like the TV series "CHEERS" where everyone knows your name, Rudy and Carol for at least 7 years have treated the 2 weekly breakfast groups I am a part of as friends and family. My boyfriend and I visited this Dennys yesterday and were waited on by Ms. Carol. My boyfriend got the super bird with scrambled egg on his sandwich and I got a BYOB burger. Carol happily waited on the two of us and I just have to say I am so eager to say how nice this woman is. She had the best attitude I've seen since covid started. Her customer service is out of this world. She was also interacting with a regular and his son, having the cutest conversations with them! I mostly stop by Denny's for their breakfast specials. $4 for biscuit and gravy, eggs and hash browns is a steal! It was delicious. My server was very nice and helpful. This location seemed to have some trouble handling the crowd that was in at 10 am. They were definitely flustered and the manager seemed to be trying to focus on 20 things at once and failing or doing half assed work at all of them. The bathroom for men was a locking single door apparently. All I wanted to do was wash my hands. Overall, I think I'll back if I'm in the area. read more

I've been to multiple Denny's around the country. New Mexico, Texas, Seattle, hell even in Florida. This Denny's that is in my home state is something else though, and not the good something. When my family and I walked in, the hostess greeted us and sat us down immediately. I think he might have been the manager because he gave the vibe and confidence of one. He gave us some time to look at the menu which was nice then he took our order. Once it was ready he brought it out to us. Not even 5 minutes later did he bring out the check to us. Now don't get me wrong, the speed and swiftness of getting us seated and taking our order and receiving the food was great, but it felt like he just wanted us to hurry up and leave. Every other table he sat down, he greeted them with a smile and enthusiasm like you should but for us, it was like we were that family member that was annoying that you don't want to say hi to but have to out of respect. The food wasn't too bad but my eggs were undercooked for a scrambled and my friend's food was over cooked for an omelet. I don't usually eat at Denny's but I had some car trouble and it was the only restaurant around. The food at this particular Denny's was very fresh and served very promptly. Those of us who have been around for a while know that Denny's has had its ups and downs. Well, this Dennys is definitely an up. Perfectly located right off the 80 freeway before you reach Auburn, this diner is a great choice for travelers. You walk in and are greeted by friendly staff. It's a very warm feel and standard Denny's decor, but with some cool touches like a jukebox. The booths are comfortable. Our waitress tended to us right away. Food was really good. Service good. This Denny's is consistently good. It's been remodeled and has a nice fresh new look. Without meaning to demean Denny's - this just doesn't seem like a Denny's - more like a nice Mom & Pop restaurant. They have a large menu, with all the traditional favorites (meatloaf, spaghetti, pot roast, chicken tenders) and they're constantly improving and adding breakfast entrees. A couple of their new-ish items are: 1) Crazy Spicy Sizzlin' skillet. LOVE THIS! 2) Bourbon Chicken Sizzlin' skillet. Yummm For Seniors (55+) they have a value menu which is awesome and lower priced. Best of all, IMO, they offer breakfast 24 hours a day. I tend toward the skillets and omelettes more than the pancake featured items - but they have all sorts of varieties of those - some of which are very creative! I don't know why, but in the past two years this restaurant has had a fair amount of wait staff turnover. I can guarantee you this it's not because anyone they've hired wasn't great! We consistently get outstanding service there. I tend to tip a little more here because they work just as hard as wait staff at places that cost twice as much and tips are based on meal cost. A friend of mine recently put Denny's down and I asked them when was the last time they were in one..... answer: "20-25 years ago". I told them to check it out - it wasn't this restaurant (Newcastle) but they were pleasantly surprised at food quality and cost. read more

Very impressed in all aspects. I've been in the restaurant business for well over 30 years so I'm hard to please to say the least. Dad and I drove from Citrus Heights and the banana milkshake was worth the trip alone. It was one of the best I've ever had, perfect consistency, nothing worse than a shake too thick to drink from a straw. Our burgers where well above average. Very friendly staff. I love Denny's food, but I do NOT know how this location stays open. There is only one hostess/waitress working the entire restaurant. The lady is mean and is contrary to every comment that we made. We had to seat ourselves which was fine, it took forever to order, and the food was slow to be delivered. On top of that, they nickel and dime you for all the extras ranch, gravy, etc. Once the meals finally arrived, it was a mixed bag on taste and preparation. The kids loved their meals - spaghetti and chocolate chip pancakes got a thumbs up. The bourbon burger was well received. The biscuits and gravy were a huge mistake. The biscuit was a hockey puck; couldn't even cut through it. Location is close to home so this is a total bummer. I will not be back soon - boo! read more

we got there and the place was a mess with tables full of dirty dishes. Finally were seated and for a hour and a half got to watch the waitress Martha trying to run the whole restaurant by herself. There was a assistant manager NICKY there which did NOTHING to help out. She did not buss any of the tables nor helped with the people who had to wait to check out. Heard her say many times to Martha " I got your back " but did not see it happen. So when other people started to come in they were told they was not taking any more customers and sent them away. The phone rang off the hook {maybe to go orders} but it did not get answered. It took a hour and a half to get our meal. I did hear they had 4 people call in but if the assistant manager would have pitched in it would have helped. I even watched her drop some silverware and never attempted to pick it up so as to prevent someone falling due to it being there. I even took pictures!!!! We come here quite often, and this was very sad to see. If it continues, I can see this place closing down due to poor management and no one to work. read more

It has been about 5-10 minutes since we ordered when people started showing up, 2 other family's, and a few couples. We expected to get our food soon. Other people started ordering. Fast forward, it had now been about 40 minutes since we ordered when other people started getting their food before us. People were already done eating by the time we got our food. Well I have been there 3 times recently and have met with always the same feelIngs. the food, well, is Dennys style, and as far back as I can remember was satisfactory but I did miss those little pitchers of different flavored syrups!! I did notice repeat - looki like, perhaps they came there every day, or at least regularly. the tables and general area was clean, as well as the restrooms. many thanks to Crystal, and Antonio, and the others who work there for their kindness. oh yes, and the coffee-- seemingly is unchanged, strong and potent. the prices are ridiculously low, and leave money left over for a fat tip. the Denny's in Grass Valley is gone, but I took my kids there every Sunday, and I remember it being the same as Newcastles-- complete with the stuffed animal machine that you dropped pinchers down to hopefully get the toy you wanted.--still there! give 'er a try if you are so inclined-especially if you are looking for something different that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and leaves you with good feelings. read more

Does anybody else enjoy passing their time by reading the calorie count menu at Denny's? There are a few things on there that could keep you fed for days. Increadible. It may not be healthy, but it is delicious. And the new value meal is awesome! $4 gets you the fried cheese melt, a work of cullinary brilliance! A grilled cheese with 4 mozarella sticks inside? Ridiculous! And it even comes with fries! This Denny's is pretty much like any other. Nice proximity to 80, and the back parking lot has a lovely view of the valley.
