Although we enjoyed our visits to Huckelberry's, we can no longer eat there (or at the one on Foothill Drive). [[HIGHLIGHT]]On Tuesday, January 20th, my wife fell in their Ladies restroom. I had asked one of their excellent staff members to see if she was ok -- she had been in there for some time. She WAS OK. l finally went into the room (10 minutes later) to check on her myself. Between the time of the first check & "now", she HAD fallen on the semi-wet floor & couldn't get up by herself. My wife has Parkinson's disease . I helped her up but we had to leave immediately for the Emergency Room - she had broken something in her arm![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After casting her wrist (& having x-rays of her head, neck wrist, & arm), we drove home. The next day, Wednesday, January 21st, I talked with another friend at Huckelberries while I was picking up an Arnold Palmer for my wife, I jokingly said that we should sue the establishment. After a couple of laughs, I reiterated that this was just a joke. She shared this information with Dominic, her manager. Dominic immediately texted me saying we could no longer eat there. Also if ANYONE working there talked with myself or my wife, they would be fired immediately! I shared with him that I had been joking & I stated that we would not do anything more. I was just JOKING. I feel that this was something that anyone, especially with a business background, should/would ask. But not Dominic. We had the stacked chicken and waffles and the bananas foster platter and they were both really really good! I have visited Huckleberry's several times but never been to this location. It is located on Fairway opposite of Costco in a cramped shopping center. Parking can be a nightmare as there is a lot of traffic coming in and out. We originally went to Four Sisters and it was a 45 min wait on a Sunday at 10 am and didn't have that kind of time. Looked up what was nearby and this was it. We walked in an was seated right away. They were busy, but not nearly as much. Tried something new this time. I got the Steak Skillet $17.49. It was not steak. I imagined chunks of steak. It was thinly sliced roast beef at best. My friend got the veggie skillet. Both our potatoes were undercooked and tasted old like its been in the fridge a long time. My toast was cold. The hucklyberry muffin was quite good. The skillets were very hearty and I was able to take half home for another meal. Our waitress came quickly and took our order but we never saw her again. She never checked on us ONCE or refilled our drinks. Had to flag her down as she was flying past to get a to-go box and our ticket to pay. You take it to the front yourself and pay. So if this was my first time here, I would not be impressed but I will chalk it up to understaffing? I will return to a Hucks but maybe not this location. read more

I got the stuffed banana foster French toast and my friend got the stacked chicken and waffles. The French toast was delicious. All the flavors complement each other. I love the taste and flavor. My only issue was I requested eggs with a runny yolk and fully cooked white and my yolks were not runny. Not a huge deal though. We went there for lunch. The menu listed a rib eye steak. The picture on the menu showed the steak the full length of the plate, so I ordered it. When the rib eye came to table , it was half the size of the one picture. Absolutely no flavor and there were some very tough parts I couldn't chew. For $20 definately not worth it. I love that the bananas fosters comes w eggs bacon and two fried green tomatoes, it helps balance the sweetness of the bananas fosters which was very tasty! Our second time in this chain restaurant known for breakfast or brunch. Came on a Saturday at around 11 am and we were seated right away for a party of 5 in a booth. I got the Crab cake Benedict but I didn't like it. It didn't meet my expectation. It was more on the dry side so do not order this. My son ordered the 1/2 lb Chicken Fried Steak platter which he liked and I kind of liked too. Hubby had the 1/2 lb ribeye platter which we definitely agreed tasted good and he also had an order of Bloody Mary. What a s**t show. Went in on Mother's Day, what a mistake. Added ourselves to the list and was told it'd be a 10-15 minute wait (they don't take reservations). After about 20 minutes we started noticing that people who put themselves on the list after us were seated. My wife goes to check and we were told we had a couple of tables ahead of us. Fair enough. After another 10 minutes and 5 more parties seated ahead of us, my wife checked again and we weren't even on the list lol. So, seated after 40 minutes and we thought our troubles would be over. Wrong. Mil ordered a breakfast plate with eggs over easy, my wife ordered the catfish po'boy and I ordered a Monte Cristo with chili cheese fries. We figured it'd be a wait because they were busy. After about 20 minutes, mil's breakfast came out with scrambled eggs instead of over easy. After 5 more minutes, my Monte Cristo showed up sans chili cheese fries. My wife's sandwich never showed up. The Monte Cristo was very soggy and the ham was fatty, a nauseating experience. Mil said the highlight of her breakfast was the fried green tomatoes. We decided to cut our losses and leave without my wife's food. Poor waitress was hiding in the back, felt so bad for her, she came out and said they'd make things right and a manager would come over. The manager never showed up and we didn't want to wait, so asked for the check. Their idea of making it right was to take my wife's sandwich (that never showed up) off the bill. I used to frequent the Huckleberry's located in Fairfield years ago. I decided to drop in to the Roseville Fairway location with my daughter for a quick lunch and see if it is anything like it's sister store in Solano County. Much like Fairfield, the place has a New Orleans kind of vibe and is decorated accordingly. The menu is fun, offering a California take on Southern/Cajun/Creole fare. My daughter ordered breakfast and I ordered Huckleberry Iced Tea and the unlimited soup, salad, and garlic sourdough. The food was good and came out pretty quickly. I wasn't crazy about the vegetable soup, but the gumbo and chili were both very good; especially for a chain restaurant. The service was excellent. The host acknowledged us when we walked in; seated us as soon as he finished cashing out the patrons he was helping; and took our beverage order and served those before our server could even reach the table. The server was equally efficient, checking on us frequently, but without hovering or making us feel out of place. Overall, this was a great visit with great front of the house and back of the house teams serving our every need. read more

After enjoying breakfast at this fine restaurant, I'm a true believer in Huckleberry's southern style cookin'... As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a cheery fireplace - propane fired - just behind the hostess stand. On this chilly, 34-degree morning in February, the fire was a welcome treat. If you look past the fireplace, you can get a peek into the kitchen through a large window. The dining room is divided into several areas, and separated by decor and partitions. Since the restaurant at opening time was lightly seated, this section wasn't in use. The furniture is a mixture of tables and booths. From the "Snacks and Sharables" section of the menu, I went with an order of "Fried Green Tomatoes," which comes with a side of spicy ranch dressing, which made for perfect dipping. Oh yeah... for breakfast? Oh yes! ... I simply could not help myself. The menu describes this fine appetiser as "Panko crusted and served with spicy ranch." I describe it as a simply delicious way to begin a Friday morning! Each piece of green tomato was thick, firm, breaded with panko, and deep fried perfectly to a golden brown. They were crispy on the outside, and tender, juicy on the inside. The spicy ranch dressing made for perfect dipping, and a great appetiser for breakfast. From the "Signature Omeletes" section of the breakfast menu, I went with "The Riverboat," a large omelet the menu advertises as "the size of the Mississippi." All omelets come with "Country Red" potatoes, and I went with optional onion, and diced bell pepper, after my hostess suggested they were available. Hash brown potatoes aren't on the menu, in the tradition of the bayou... The omelete began with three eggs, which makes for a large breakfast any way you look at it, and was stuffed with thinly diced white onion, diced bell pepper, tomato and melted Monterrey Jack cheese, along with shredded cheddar cheese. Such a great omelete and a great way to begin a Friday morning! I truly believe the most notable feature of the omelete was the "Cajun chili," which made this to be a standalone amazing omelete. The chili was rich, flavorful, spicy, but not at all spicy-hot, so to say. Topping the omelete, and combining with the goodness of the omelete, this made for an omelete worth remembering for a long time. Oh the "Country Red" potatoes... what a delight! They were fried, red potatoes, complete with skins, and from the option given to me by Sandra, my friendly hostess, I added diced white onion along with diced red and green bell pepper. The potatoes were perfectly fried to a light, golden brown, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, and made a great side to the delicious omelete. Looking back as I write this article, why didn't I order a side of gravy? "The Riverboat" omelete, along with the side of "Country Red" potatoes made for a simply delicious breakfast, and jump-started my Friday to work out to be a great day. The menu isn't kidding when it states the omelete is "the size of the Mississippi," as it's big, and with the generous helping of potatoes, the breakfast will keep you satisfied for the rest of your day. There are two Huckleberry's in Roseville, and I'm not sure of the ownership - Huckleberry's is a franchise - but the only thing they share is the menu, as they are six miles distant, but world's apart is service and atmosphere. I avoid the Foohills location, but the Fairway Drive location is 5-star dining any way you look at it. Check them out, and enjoy great Lousiana cuisine in Roseville! read more

Since it was our first time coming here, our server was patient while we looked at the menu. She was also accommodating and friendly. I ordered the Louisiana Catfish Bayou Style. I would put this above Black Bear Diner, IHOP, Denny's, etc. I know Huckleberry's is also a chain, but the food here has yet to disappoint. Ive ate here a few times trying different egg based breakfast items and the usual pancake/french toast/waffle variety and everything has always left me satisfied. The quality and flavors never had me feeling like I stumbled into a budget low quality establishment. This place isn't the cheapest, nor is it the most expensive. I've been wanting to try Huckleberry's for a while. Based on the reviews, I read, I have to say I was disappointed. We had the bananas foster French toast breakfast that came with scrambled eggs & bacon. The French toast was fine, not special as I was hoping. I believe, and I may be wrong, the scrambled eggs are powdered. Very light yellow and tasteless. Also, it was a very modest size. Most restaurant breakfasts are large enough to split. Not this one.
