I visited this restaurant for the first time last night and had a good dining experience. The location was fairly convenient off of I-80 in Newcastle, CA. Parking was adequate, I was greeted upon entering, they seated me quickly, my server was attentive, my food was delicious, the price was reasonable, the service was good, the dining room, my table and the restroom were clean, and the free internet worked well.

We like to stop at this Denny's every time we go to Reno. I have always had the same workers and same experience. The staff is quick and friendly. The place overall is clean, the bathrooms are a little gross but a lot of people stop through here to be fair. The food was delicious but pretty much a standard Denny's breakfast. The seasonal maple filled donuts were AMAZING!

Amazing food and service had my food out in like five minutes! Super nice too! Not busy at all too so it's not loud. Delicious food I put it down the hatch so quick

    A hair in our food

The moment we walked in the door Carrie (I believe is the manager) put her hand up and said wait I'm taking an order. Anyways we were finally sat by someone else. Our server who was a gentleman I forgot his name was not rude but not nice either. Was very quick very blunt. Once we got our food my boyfriend noticed a hair in his pancakes. Carrie comes over and says "you don't like hair". Asks if we would like to remove the pancakes off our bill and we said yes. Not to mention as we were eating Carrie is yelling at an older gentleman trying to break a $20 bill at the register saying "what do you not understand I need you to wait I do not have $5 bills I have to grab some out of the safe". The whole time we were eating she was saying smart ass comments and talking shit about people the whole time. She is a very loud individual and we could hear everything she was saying. Hands down one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a restaurant which says a lot because I've worked in the service industry all my life and I'm an executive chef. Will never dine here ever again!!

    Great place for breakfast

Does this one smell the same as the others, or is there a different aroma I should brace myself to receive upon entry?

It smelled ok. No bums hanging out like many Denny's so maybe that helps. It does have a nice Valley lights view out back.

The overall experience was super cozy and made me feel like I was eating at a close relative's home. We came on a Sunday evening and there was no wait time.We ordered a dozen oysters, handmade raviolis con sugo and the handmade tortellini with pesto. Everything came out quickly but fresh. You could tell that everything was house made by how fresh it tasted and how flavorful everything was. We also enjoyed the bread with balsamic vinegar and oil that was brought out. Our waitress was super friendly and checked in on our frequently, which we enjoy whenever we go out to eat. We didn't have enough room for dessert but we look forward to coming back to try the pizza. Everything we ordered was delicious. The oysters were fresh and served ice cold, the wine selection complemented the meal well, and the seafood pasta was packed with flavor and generously loaded with seafood. The vodka fettuccine was good, though the sauce leaned a bit heavy on the alcohol flavor for our taste. Even so, it was a generous portion and clearly made with quality ingredients. What really elevated the experience was the service. Zoe, our server, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and on top of everything throughout the meal. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere made for a great dining experience. We would gladly return and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for authentic Italian comfort food in the Loomis area.

A Friday Night Home Run at Penryn Grill!…read more This was our third visit to Penryn Grill, and someone suggested we come back on a Friday night for the clam chowder and fish & chips. Let me just say...it was absolutely worth the return trip! First, the clam chowder. My wife gave it a 10 out of 10, and that's saying something because she's a self-proclaimed clam chowder snob. She rarely finds a chowder that can compete with her favorite spots in Monterey. Well...hallelujah--we finally found one! The bread bowl deserves its own standing ovation. It tasted like fresh sourdough that had just come out of the oven--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious. Normally you finish the chowder and leave most of the bread behind. Not this time. I ate every single bite of that bread bowl. It was simply scrumptious. The fish and chips were equally impressive. They served a huge plank of fish that was lightly battered and cooked perfectly. Too many restaurants hide a tiny piece of fish under a mountain of batter, leaving you feeling disappointed (and overly full). Not Penryn Grill. The fish was fresh, flaky, and outstanding. In fact, it was the first time in our 43 years of marriage that I've seen my wife finish every bite of her fish and chips! The chips were another pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual thick fries, they were thinly shaved, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely addictive. We'd never had them prepared that way before, and they were a home run. Of course, I couldn't leave without ordering what I consider Penryn Grill's signature dish--the shrimp tacos. They are hands down the best around. Perfectly seasoned, loaded with flavor, and honestly worthy of ordering every single visit. The atmosphere was terrific. We loved the live '80s music, the service was fantastic as always, and our waitress graciously endured my terrible jokes with a smile. That's five-star service in my book. As retirees, we're always on the hunt for a place that serves a great meal at a great value, and Penryn Grill checks every box. One tip: If you're planning to go on a Friday for the chowder and fish & chips, arrive between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. They regularly sell out--and after this meal, it's easy to understand why. We'll definitely be back...again!

I usually go for the dirty grilled cheese, always comes out great (tons of meat), looking and tasting delicious. Tonight I made a different choice, thought I'd try a bit healthier option with the meat sampler chicken. Now usually when I have been to bbq spots you get like 1/2 chicken so I was VERY shocked when the smallest piece of sliced chicken breast came out on a little side plate. Was a strange presentation and immediately had me disappointed in my choice. In fairness, the chicken tasted nice, was pretty dry though and barely warm, but good flavor at least (needed sauce so wasn't so dry). It was maybe 4-5 ounces of chicken which seems a bit skimpy for the price. My side salad with blue cheese dressing was good as usual. They should really consider at least more chicken and better plating though! Got my usual, very berry refresher, maybe a new bartender tonight? Wasn't as good as usual, but everyone has an off night. Overall though, love this place, still gave a good rating and of course will be back.

We ordered nachos and side salads to get a feel for the place. The salads were okay, though they were plated in tiny bowls making it impossible to dress/eat without spilling on the table. We decided to ask for larger plates and dump the salads on those instead. The nachos were a gigantic portion with freshly made chips and looked promising. The flavor, however, was lackluster- mostly tasting of oil from the chips and the too thick layer of cheddar cheese. We picked around the plate, but eventually gave up. We won't return, but it seems plenty of others have found something they enjoy from this restaurant.

So finally, on my way to Auburn last Saturday, I had time to stop and try some of their amazing food. I was greeted as I walked into this quaint mini market. Everyone was friendly and talking to me. It has been family owned for decades and they made me feel so comfortable, but I was not there to shop around. I was there to try the food goods created by the smoker and whoever does this delicious array of foods. There were many options to choose from in their heated display case. Burgers, breakfast burritos, brisket sandwiches, ribs... I think there were a couple more options, but I couldn't decide on one. So I went with some smoked pork ribs and a brisket sandwich. It was $28 & change. It felt a little on the expensive side for 4 ribs and a sandwich. However... it was damn delicious!! When I got home, I did add a little salt, pepper, & mayo in the brisket sandwich... and then for me, it was fire! The smoked pork ribs were soooo goooood with the dry rub that was on them. Tender and juicy ribs... mmmm! I'm not sure if sauced ones were available, but I really liked these the way they were. I look forward to coming back here to try the other lunch & breakfast items... as well as chatting with everyone that works here!!! I'll be sure to capture more photos next visit!
