Just had supper in Raton, NM Dennys. Our server Michelle went above and beyond. Sunday night on a holiday weekend and she checked on us maybe 5-6 times. My best Denny's experience ever! Road trips sometimes require late night dinner stops. My family of 9 got in around 10pm, and were famished. We were seated within a few minutes of arriving. We ordered a create your own omelette, with some wheat pancakes, chicken fingers with fries, veggie skillet, kids meals and a Philly cheese steak sandwich with fries. Christopher was our star server who was attentive & friendly. What impressed me about this particular Denny's is how you could tell how well the staff got along with each other. Another Dennys pretty much like every other location on the outside. I was greeted as I entered and promptly seated. My waitress was good, she checked back a couple of times to see if I needed anything. The place was loud enough but then there was one waitress who was way over the top on her volume. She laughed almost non stop ot talked so everyone in the place could hear her. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, 2 pancakes, 2 strips of bacon and hashbrowns. Everything was cooked correctly except the eggs were runny and I left them untouched. The service was good, the prices fair but the place was noisy and the eggs disgusted me. read more

Came here with my family as we were just passing through trying to get a QUICK bite before heading back to Denver. My dad had asked for sweetener packets for his tea and had to ask again 2 more times before it was brought to the table. When we FINALLY got our food, French fries came with my mother's meal.. "but wait I thought you were out of fries?" And my dad's order was wrong too! HERE's THE CRAPPY ICING ON THE SHIT CAKE: my sandwich bread HAD MOLD IN IT!!! Denny's is "America's Diner" and this location is located in Clayton, NM. A few blocks away from Hwy 85, it serves as a busy pit stop for folks travelling along this road. My Overall Rating - 2 Stars (Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - This Denny's is like most, you'll have a large number of booths and tables throughout. However, be weary of the bathroom. On this visit, the men's room seemed like it had not been cleaned in a while. Given this is a popular stop for road travelers, I would hope they would maintain it a bit better. No Star. Service - The staff was friendly, but woefully understaffed. On a Friday morning the restaurant was probably at 80-90% capacity but there were maybe 3 servers. The end result? It took a while to place and get our orders, simple requests like coffee refills were not so simple. I don't blame the staff because they do the best they can. And except for the challenges around timing they were great. 1/2 Star. Food - It's diner food, so don't expect 5 star quality. The kids liked their chocolate chip pancakes, so no complaints there. Fruit was fresh. But the omelet was very uneven. The eggs had a foam texture (instead a fluffy), and the ingredients of my Veggie Omelet were all over the place. One bit would be nothing but cheese, another nothing but zucchini, etc. The last item of note is that Denny's is not cheap. Yes, you can find good deals on their Value Menu but most breakfast items ranged started at $9 and went up. 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Probably. Even though the food is average at best and not a great value, I wouldn't mind coming back if I wasn't rushed or wanted something beyond your typical McDonald's menu (they're next door). 1 Star. No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. Frankly, ownership and management should be embarrassed here because responsibility starts at the top. Yesterday I couldn't be seated because kitchen was "already 20 minutes behind". There were 5 tables seated at time. Today, 3 tables & 6 covers resulted in 40 minute wait for food to come. 3 servers and 1 manager could bus 2 tables in 60 minute visit. Dish washer mopped restrooms then left mop and sat directly with customers at table. Friends or not-yuck. Mgr (2nd to GM) sneezed in hand and went directly back to kitchen to help out. I had a view of it all. Almost as bad as her chatting/laughing with staff instead of helping serve/bus. Bussed tables "cleaned" with dirty rag and water. I suspect the obvious lack of motivation, poor hygiene, and bad facility conditions will mean they'll close soon- or should. read more

Ate breakfast here. I got the 55+ Omelette meal and my husband got the 55+ scrambled eggs with chees meal. Both were very good. Lavonne was our waitress and she was on top of taking care of us. Only down side was my seat had a hole where it had been taped but the tape tore off. And for some reason there were several flies that bothered us. But people were very friendly. There was several guests waiting to pay their bill too, and I watched at least on guy leave without paying. One of the cooks it seemed, (he was wearing an apron) finally came up to take payments...And was handling money. He went back to the kitchen and nobody was taken to a table. At this point a few more parties showed up and one of the women leaving said "it's gonna be a long wait" as to which I left and went to another restaurant for lunch instead. This has to be the worst Denny's that I have been to so far. Empty tables and booths, cook has orders lined up ready to deliver to tables. But I have never seen a wait staff that seemed to care less than this one. They were in no hurry to to anything. People were lined up out the door and they don't even acknowledge your existence. While we were waiting at least 20 people left. All the same comments, about not acknowledging your existence. I can appreciate being understaffed. But a greeting and an acknowledgement go a long way. Ok. I had a tough time with this one. The evening started with us waiting almost 20 minutes to be seated, despite there being no one in front of us and plenty of empty tables. Although I had requested some A1, it did not need a single bit of seasoning. My corn was beyond delicious. Crisp, sweet and buttery. The red skinned mashed potatoes were by far the best I have ever had at a restaurant. My husband's meal was just as yummy. The meat was perfectly cooked, the vegetables were fresh and tasty. Neither one of us needed a to-go box (they were lucky we left the plates lol). I am not exaggerating - this meal put Outback Steakhouse to shame. I was beyond impressed. Ok. Then we waited for the check. Needless to say, we would have been wise to request it after the meal ticket had been taken to the kitchen. After 30 minutes, yes, I said 30 minutes, we finally went up front to ask for assistance. Now - I do need to mention, in the entire restaurant of about 20 seated tables, our server was one of two in the entire place. We knew this not just because we have eyes, but because she very loudly announced it to the table next to ours (uhhhhh Covid precautions much?) and was visibly annoyed that anyone could possibly be upset about waiting so long to leave (the people in the table next to ours were also waiting to check out but not as patiently I'm afraid). She was quick to inform (all of us) him that it was only she and one other person and that they were super busy taking orders, bussing tables, seating people, bringing out food, cashing people out, etc etc - you get the picture I'm sure. Then .... without a goodbye, good luck or definitely a check, she unceremoniously left. To go home. So, after she abandoned us and we realized that we were supposed to fend for ourselves, we went up to the front counter and explained to the poor girl who was going to take her place (who knows?) that we needed our check and that we wanted some apple crisp to go (well - you would be hungry too after all this time). She was able to get it to us rather quickly and then another person (non server, manager maybe?) came to the front and cashed us out. My husband asked her if the desserts could be on the house and she replied that "yes, of course" and our desserts were comped. When it came time to put down the tip, however, we gave it instead to the other server, a young woman named Darcy who was busting her behind - but was still managing to be pleasant and kind to her customers despite the chaos. It was impressive really. Now WAIT- before you roast me - YES, I have been a server, AND yes I've been a single mom, AND yes I've also been in "the weeds" at a busy dinner rush with little to no help.
