The sour dough toast wasn't a true sour dough. It tasted like white bread. Service was a 10 . Mau was friendly and kept checking to see if we needed anything. He usually works at the orange location, I know because I liked his service so well that I asked him. I loved the upbeat music which made for a relaxing leisurely breakfast. It was very clean inside. Bathroom was a plus. It was very clean. No nasty smells or dirty toilet or funky smells. Which is rare. When she came back, she asked if we wanted the original plate boxed up because they didn't want it to go to waste. We explained that we weren't going to eat it because of the jalapeños, but after being asked again, we agreed to take it with us so it wouldn't be wasted. When it was time to pay, we were shocked to find out we had been charged for both meals. At no point did anyone tell us that remaking the plate meant we'd be paying for two plates. Had we known, we never would have agreed to reorder it and we tried leaving the to go box too. When I politely questioned the charge, the employee told us that my friend "could have just picked the jalapeños off like other people do." That response was disappointing and dismissive, especially since they had already agreed to remake the meal. I asked to speak with a manager, but was told there wasn't one available and that nothing could be done. There was no apology for the miscommunication or any effort to make things right. I've worked in hospitality, so I understand that mistakes happen. That's why I remained polite throughout the interaction. But hospitality is about communication and how you handle those mistakes, and unfortunately that was missing here. What should have been an enjoyable breakfast ended with us leaving frustrated.

Not much service after you order and they drop off your food. My boyfriend has their Classic Breakfast ($18.20) and I had their Kimchi Butter Fried Chicken Benedict ($19.20). The food took a while to come out, and they came out pretty spread apart. I noticed with the other tables how one person would be halfway through by the time the other person's food came. My boyfriend's food came out before mines and I told him to eat first but he wanted to wait for me. Both of the meal came with a side salad and potatoes. I was most look forward to the salad but I was disappointed with how overly dressed and sour it was. Very imbalanced. I've been to other Popping Yolk cafes so I know it isn't meant to be this sour. The sauce and everything just made the fried chicken soft and soggy too. I want crispiness when I hear fried chicken. Oh yeah! My boyfriend also got a Pepsi ($3.25). On their menu it says the sodas are refillable. The whole time we were there I didn't see staff checking on anyone's refillable drinks. If you're expecting the refill, you might be disappointed. The experience is very casual and lackluster but the pricing is definitely on the high side. I'm not a fan.
