I really enjoyed my breakfast and the customer service. It was my first visit to S&J Gran cafe. I'm picky about breakfast and how it's prepared. I ordered the Denver omelette which was delicious and perfectly prepared. None of that overcooked burned egg crust stuff, The omelette was light and fluffy. A good ratio of meat and veggies inside.The home potato's had perfect crusty edges. The green salsa was perfect for those like me who can't take much spice. Coffee was a little strong. The sour dough toast wasn't a true sour dough. It tasted like white bread. Service was a 10 . Mau was friendly and kept checking to see if we needed anything. He usually works at the orange location, I know because I liked his service so well that I asked him. I loved the upbeat music which made for a relaxing leisurely breakfast. It was very clean inside. Bathroom was a plus. It was very clean. No nasty smells or dirty toilet or funky smells. Which is rare. We like S&J and have gone there several times but they no longer serve WATER!!! NEVER in the history of the hundreds of restaurants I have gone to in my entire life have I been told they don't serve water and if we wanted water we would have to BUY a bottle of water. I don't remember if it was $2 or $3 but WOW! REALLY? Sad because it's close to where we live and it used to be our GO TO place. Not sure if or when we will be back.... The customer service wasn't the best -- it felt like the staff could be a bit more attentive and welcoming. It's more of a 4.5 and I'm glad I heard about this place. The zapata latte cacahuate is what I came for and it was delicious! Also tried the Mexican mocha, which is rich and delish, too - but the zapata took the lead for drinks. Also tried the Azteca bowl (with cactus). As the server said, the cactus is more of a vehicle for the other flavors, but I enjoyed the freshness and taste of the potatoes and other items with it. It's better with salsa, though - green is my preference. The jalapeno in the burrito we ordered had a nice kick to it, and again with green salsa, was tasty. My daughter said the French toast and eggs was good, too. Really nice, spacious place with natural lighting - good for a breakfast/lunch vibe. The service was super friendly and on spot. My friend and I visited the establishment on a Sunday morning/afternoon, so it wasn't empty, but it wasn't super busy either, which was perfect. It's a smaller cafe so not a lot of seating, but nice for a small group. We were wondering if we could split the chilaquiles and the waiter was very helpful with how we split it and made suggestions to accommodate us. In fact, the entire staff was very helpful and very kind. Anyway, we ordered the carne asada chilaquiles with salsa verde, each a side of French Toast, my friend ordered a hot Mexican Mocha and I ordered the hot Zapata latte. The chilaquiles were FIRE. The salsa was very flavorful and the tortillas weren't soggy. It was fantastic, and it hit the spot. The French toast was NOT it, though lol. I love French toast, but the insides were a bit soggy and there was no flavor. My friend is still continuing to rave about her Mexican Mocha and I really liked the Zapata (it wasn't too sweet and the consistency was perfect). Had the Zapata Latte and it was delish. Our table ordered a variety of food dishes and each one was well made and delicious. They have a vast selection of items, so I'm sure there's something for everyone. The restaurant has a good amount of tables inside and a few outside. Nice environment to chill and enjoy a meal. I really wanted to love this place because Mexican restaurants are rare to find in diamond bar. Honestly, I have to give it two stars., and it saddens me to say that. we went here for a late lunch around 1245.-1:00, and there were maybe four tables in the restaurant. With that being said, the service. Was below par. Once the food was dropped, our server never came back to ask how our food was, asked to bring us boxes or give us the check. We had to ask for these items, but it was after we waited 10 minutes for not only our server, but someone in the restaurant to acknowledge we were there. When we received our check, we were the only ones in the restaurant and had to wait 10 more minutes for the server to come cash us out In addition, the espresso coffee I ordered came out WARM, which is surprising because they make it directly from the machine. We had also ordered a couple glasses of ice water, and the gentleman told us that they do not serve ice water and bottled water was only available for purchase. When asked why they do not serve ice water, he said it's because the waterline to the restaurant is not taste good, and this led me to think what waterline do they use for their espresso machine then? We did enjoy the chiller, killers and divorce's plate and do give 5 stars to the cook who prepared our meal. I hope this information enlighten the restaurant and improves their customer service because I really would love to come back to this establishment and support this small business. read more

We were really hungry one day after thrifting and decided to stop here for brunch. We didn't know what to expect and weren't expecting much as this was randomly hidden in a strip mall and most of the chairs were already put away as if they were closing. Luckily we gave it a chance and were surprised by how good the Mexican breakfast here is. We got the chilaquiles and the Al pastor quesadilla. I absolutely loved the quesadilla as it's HUGE and made with a hand made tortilla! The tortilla was delicious! It's so hard to come across handmade tortillas in restaurants now a days. Only con was the Al pastor was really fatty but I still really enjoyed it. I recommend adding a side of beans which tasted homemade as well. Honestly, I'm very disappointed with this restaurant. The location and food photos looked great, but the service was not welcoming at all. The staff seemed very slow and inattentive, and no one checked on customers.I accidentally spilled hot tea on myself and the table, and we had to ask for more napkins because no employee came to help. We also waited a long time just to get syrup while our food was getting cold. On top of that, the food came out very bland.Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Finally during a free morning decided to give this place a try. The server was super friendly and nice. We asked her what are some of people's favorite items and she suggests to get the chilaquiles I got it with chicken and added avocado. Food came out quickly within 10 minutes or so with freshly scrambled eggs, deep fried goodness on this plate. She noticed I started adding Tapatio and gave me some spicy sauce that was perfect for the meal. I also got to try their Zapata Latte Cacahuate which has some crushed peanuts on the bottom. I rarely ever dole out 1 star reviews and I want to do everything that I can to prevent myself in order from doing so, but after ordering take out here and receiving one of the absolute worst bouts of food poisoning in my life (hey, I at least lost 10 lbs), I just had to do it. My brother and I wanted to order some late breakfast/brunch for take out. We got the iced Mexican mocha (honestly tasted a bit too bitter and had a really grainy sandy texture even after mixing it), their standard waffle breakfast meal that comes with 2 eggs (my brother got over medium) and bacon, and their eggs benedict with potatoes. The benedict looked really sus already when we opened the take out container, but since I was hungry and we were already home without any other food, I just dove into eating it. The spinach was wilted, the eggs were room temperature (this was RIGHT after we took the food home and we don't live to far away), and the Hollandaise sauce had a slightly overly ripe sour cream taste to it. The biscuit was already soggy and it was just a chore to eat this so I barely was ble to completely finish eating 1 piece and had to toss away the other. Now if that was the case with this meal, I would have just relented and given this place 2 stars and maybe I just ordered something wrong off of the menu or if it was an off day, but later on that day I started feeling feverish and ill. There was nothing else that I had eaten since the day before and my brother didn't get sick either (he didn't touch the eggs benny). Once it was evening/night, I had the WORST food poisoning of my life, easily one of the top 3 vomiting sessions ever. I just threw up until there was nothing in my system, I was gagging out bile and saliva, throwing up water, Gatorade, Peptol Bismol and literally everything else that was in my system. It winded me pretty badly that I had to take the next day off of work and then the day afterwards too since I was only becoming okay with drinking liquids (yes it was that bad). I don't think I'll even eat eggs benny again after this experience it was that traumataizing and I still can't explain what could have gone wrong that made me so ill, but never again I can say that for sure. read more

Today was my second time here and this review is more for me than anything. I need to remember what I had and what to get next time. The first time I got the Chapin plate for breakfast. It was unusual with a wedge of cheese, some black beans and a fried plantain. Really good. This time I got their Gran burrito. It was dense with meat, potatoes, cheese, and egg and beans but I would not order it again. It's advertised as containing a spicy sauce but there was none inside and it was very dry and overcooked. All the ingredients were overcooked and seemed like leftovers. It also didn't come with a salsa on the side. I went with my family for Easter 2024 and the service was worse! My brother in law asked for salsa and my dad had to go up and get it. I ordered pancakes and they were hard and dry. I had to ask for butter. I needed to use 5 packets just to make the pancakes edible! The decor is clean, modern, and with vibe of minimalist American breakfast and diner. Bleacher seating is comfortable. It's a little busy for Monday morning, but service is quick and friendly with just 2 servers. I have one black coffee with half and half. Coffee is strong and not sour. And I ordered 2 bacons with 2 eggs. You can choose type of egg and type of toast. It comes with potatoes. It's tasty with right amount of flavor and nothing is burned. Today was my first time dining at S&J. Eh! It could have been better. Client services were running on fumes at 8am when I ordered breakfast. The toast came with no butter and was piled on the potatoes. No dish was provided upon which to place the toast. When I ordered juice and a glass of water, the server said they served water by the bottle, not by the glass. I was almost done with breakfast when the server placed a 33oz bottle of water on the table. I had her to take it back as it was too much water served far too late. As I ate, the speaker above me was blasting loud salsa music. Not that I mind listening to salsa, but it was too loud. I politely asked the server if she would turn down the volume. Her response? "Yes, but only a little bit." And "only a little bit" is exactly what I got. The omelet I ordered was a bit tasteless and looked like it had been aimlessly thrown together. As I departed, another patron asked me if my toast had been served with butter. The lady said that, upon receiving her "butterless" toast, she had asked the server why was there no butter on her toast. The spinach and sauce didn't match with the poached eggs. Bacon strips were not crispy. However, I liked the diced potatoes and they were quite flavorful. (3 out of 5 stars) Denver Omelet $15- hubby ordered omelet and it had ham, bacon, bell pepper, onions & cheddar cheese. The toast was way too dry and crunchy (texture like croutons) and the omelet was also over cooked & dry. Hubby didn't like it at all. (2 out of 5 stars) We also ordered freshly squeezed Orange Juice and coffee. I loved my OJ a lot though. lol Service: 5 stars. Service was great and they were friendly. My favorite breakfast spot to come to in diamond bar. I would say that the food is very authentic and full of flavor. My absolute favorite item on the menu is the A La Mexicana burrito. And their red salsa ughhh soo bomb. I get this every time. I substitute beans for bacon and avocado if you love spice get this. A service is always great. I went to S & J for my annual Eid breakfast this week. It's really clean inside with a decent amount of seating and a wide variety of options. Our waitress was very friendly, helping me weigh options between iced coffees and being helpful overall. Normally I'd be insta-ordering huevos rancheros, but I'd already had a smaller breakfast earlier in the morning and went with waffles and scrambled eggs. My waffles were yummy, coated with powdered sugar and presented well. I had also ordered the iced Mexican hot chocolate with a couple shots of espresso as recommended by staff, and it was delicious, topped off with whip cream, and rich with cinnamon. Im a fan of great breakfast burritos so I've made it a goal to try them all over SoCal. Traditionally in my opinion, the Mexican style breakfast burritos with real tortillas and beans have an edge over most places I've tried. Today I had the gran burrito and it was absolutely awesome. Probably in my top 2 all over socal. It comes with all three meats listed on the menu and crispy potatoes, eggs , cheese and beans. First and last time going to this place. Horrible service. The host/waitress had a horrible personality, not friendly, no customer service skills. She never asked once if we needed anything, nor checked on us , the whole 45 minutes we were there. They don't serve water, you have to purchase bottled water. Wtf who does that!!!! While I was there, all the surrounding customers asked for water. I had bacon , pancake,and eggs. Eggs were ok, bacon tasted like it was dipped in old grease, pancake tasted hard , tasteless, not good. My coffee latte was the only thing decent. We ordered Togo. First off one of our orders was incorrect: they gave us sausage instead of bacon even though on the receipt it was correct. The most disappointing though was our order of breakfast burritos. It was so inedibly salty as if the cap of the salt fell off while they were cooking it. Sorry to have to write this review.
