Chalk this up to another great find with the help of Yelp reviews. I was looking for a new dentist in my neighborhood. I used to live downtown but was growing tired of spending more time going to/from the appointment than actually in the chair. So, of course, I turned to Yelp. In the last two weeks I have had the most thorough cleaning ever and two old sliver fillings replaced. I'm very, very happy with both. Here are some of the highlights: * They use the latest in technology. That's great. But, what makes it even better is that everything that is being done is explained thoroughly and you have the chance to answer questions before you begin. * To compliment excellent technique, each and every person in the office has a customer service focus. The place is almost like a spa. It is calm and everyone is working to ensure a positive experience. * To top it all off, Dr Murray called after the fillings work to make sure everything was going well and to make sure no further adjustments were needed. Excellent customer service and far too rare the modern age. Bottom line, I recommend this practice without reservation. read more

In a cultural climate where patients are being steadily removed from their doctors, unable to communicate directly and get timely care, the team at Dental Innovations is ALWAYS responsive, ALWAYS communicative, and ALWAYS professional. They respond in a timely fashion to calls and emails, and always put my needs as a patient first. This week I was able to get in IMMEDIATELY when a crown came loose - they made it happen and even stayed late. I cannot recommend this dentist enough. It is hard to find people to trust with your teeth, but Dr. Murray truly is the best in business and I selfishly hope he never retires. He has done great work for me, the staff are all great, and they stay up to date with the latest technology in dentistry (which I have benefitted from multiple times); front desk always communicative and kind. I once had a tiny front tooth chip other dentists said was too small to fix -- fixed perfectly here. Been going to Dr. Murray for 20 years, even after moving out of the neighborhood. Dentistry is no place to skimp. During the pandemic I did a teeth-straightening with ClearCorrect aligners because my teeth had really bunched up over the years. This was after getting a scan and an up-front estimate. Went in today after not having gone to the dentist in at least ten years. I called first to see if there were any openings for an emergency visit and I was able to get in a couple hours later. The receptionist was very nice and polite. Dr. Murray was also very nice and gentle and showed a lot of grace while I was explaining my issues and concerns. I haven't been able to sleep in a couple of days due to terrible mouth pain and he shared with me the important of dental hygiene, next steps, and if I should come back how we would move forward. Dr Murray and his team are phenomenal. They are kind and caring. Dr Murray stays up to date on new technologies, methods, materials etc. He's very innovative when it comes to dental repairs. He's also very collaborative and would never push something on you if you don't need it. I am so comfortable going there that I fell asleep during my last cleaning. I want to share the story of how I found Dental Innovations, because it's a great illustration of how amazing they are. A few years back I was in terrible pain with a tooth infection (a bad root canal). After a couple of days of pain I called my dentist (a downtown dentist). They said no one could see me for two more days (5 dentists at that practice but no one could take 5 min). It was an early morning, after a sleepless night from so much pain, and I was starting to feel desperate. So I googled dentists in my area and started calling. The first two didn't answer. The third was Dental Innovations. I told them my symptoms and they said, come in immediately. Dr Murray saw me and referred me to a surgeon. 24 hours later (before my other dentist could see me), my problem was solved. And I stayed with Dr Murray. They care, they're skilled, they're high tech. They're the best! read more

Soo...small back story. I'm terrified of the dentist. In my 30 some years of life, I've had teeth pulled, braces, oral surgery after a childhood accident, and more childhood cavities than maybe most kids. I've had horrible dentists. My mom had a horrible dentist. I've had dentists make me out to be some horrible person (in my mind) because I didn't floss. My anxiety and fear of the dentist just prevents me from going for years at a time. I think I've gone at least ten years since my last appointment. Back in January 2018, I was getting severe toothaches to the point where I couldn't focus on work or eat. I knew I had reached my limit on avoiding the dentist and had to find someone to look at my horrible mouth. My husband found dental innovations for me so I reluctantly made a last minute appointment and went in. Everyone from the front desk to the dentist himself was sooo nice and informative. Luckily my mouth wasn't in too much disrepair, and turns out I just needed a softer brush and sensodyne toothpaste (my toothache went away within a day or two after!). I didn't feel awful. I felt relieved. They told me to come back for a cleaning so I did just that yesterday. Angie is...for lack of a better word, an angel. I told her my concerns and crazy dental history, and she explained everything she was going to do. When she saw that the cleaning was hurting me more than usual, she numbed my mouth so I would feel more comfortable. She gave me breaks when I needed them. She didn't rush me or make me feel that I was wasting her time. They took X-rays and showed me immediately what they were seeing and what it meant. They found cracked fillings that I am going to get replaced in two weeks, and I could see everything myself from the small camera they use to take pictures of your mouth. The future is here! Afterwards, I gave Angie a hug. I've never had a better dental experience anywhere. I won't say it was pain free, but that is because I waited so long to even bother finding a dentist. If you're on the fence about coming here, take it from someone who would have waited until her teeth fell out before seeing a dentist...make an appointment ASAP! read more

I've lived in Minneapolis, New York City, San Diego and Chicago, and Dr. Murray is the best dentist I've ever had. He's extremely skilled and thoughtful and actually listens to his patients and explains treatment. He never just says "open up" and jumps in without making sure that you are comfortable and understand what is going on. I came to him with a dental emergency 5 years ago - I had a lot of pain in one tooth - and he found a way to fit me in, explained the situation both verbally and visually with pictures of the tooth, and walked me through the process. I have a tendency to put off dental check-ups, (hence the dental emergency) and Dr. Murray and his team never scold or try to shame me if it's been a year or more since my last check up. They are gentle but thorough during these check-ups. I'm never in pain when I leave Dr. Murray's office. Case in point - I had a cavity filled yesterday. I was in and out in under an hour, I had no pain during or after the visit, and Dr. Murray called me himself that evening to make sure that I was doing okay. He's truly the best! My husband is a big fan, too and he has annoyingly perfect teeth. ;) read more

I LOVE this place. now you may be thinking..."this woman is NUTS! she loves the dentist?!" Well here is why... They have a cute little waiting area that looks like someone's front room, which is much more relaxing than waiting in a room that could have been a morgue at one point. I hadn't been to the dentist in years, mainly because I was too scared. (I'm sure MANY of you fellow yelpers are in the same boat) But i knew i had to go. Well It turned out that i had to go in 3 times with in two weeks, twice for cleaning and once for 5 fillings. And i was never once scared to go back. They make sure your experience isn't a nightmare. They talk to you the whole time, keep you informed on what's happening and what's going to happen. They always say, you don't have to be in pain. The people who work there are what makes this place. They are all professional, informative and most of all, friendly! They get to know you and genuinely want to know about you...They really make an effort to get to know their clients. Which is so refreshing, especially now a days. So if your looking for a non-terrifying dental visit. i recommend this place! and FYI: My teeth are not nasty or anything they are actually really straight, with out braces.( i know, lucky) But they made me realize HOW lucky i was and that i should take EXTRA special care of my lovely teeths! As the other reviewer says, they have a nice waiting area. That's good because you might spend a lot of time in that area. I had gone to this place regularly for quite a while and was happy with the dental work. But I started to really HATE the idea of them constantly optimizing the operation around maximizing throughput. It seems that having enough patients queued up in the waiting room keeps the staff fully occupied. I think this is why a few days before nearly every appointment I would get a call asking me if I could change the scheduled date or the time. The last straw was when I walked in for a scheduled appointment I was told that I was there on the wrong day. I had my appointment card with me and so I knew it was the right day. It turned out that when they where optimizing their schedule they rescheduled me and forgot to call me. The dentist was there working -- and they still expected me to just leave and come back on the other day they had in mind for me. Can you imagine? I obliged on the "just leave" part but I never went back. If the rating here was dental work alone it would be higher. There were numerous annoyances beyond what I mention here but it all comes down to the same basic issue. read more

If you're looking for a new dentist, go here! I moved to this practice after a recommendation from a friend and felt like I found the perfect place for me. Generally the dentist is not anyone's favorite place, but this team works hard and successfully makes it a comfortable, almost homey, experience. As I got in the chair and starting working with the hygienist, my comfort and confidence continued to grow. I was impressed with how natural and easy to talk to she was, but even more so I saw technologies and techniques that I'd never seen before. It really made me feel like I was receiving the most up-to-date treatments available. The doctor was also really easy to talk to and genuinely interested in getting to know me. I have been getting regular check-ups and fillings from Dr. Murray's Dental Innovations for, dare I say, 10 years now. Dr. Murray always has the latest equipment - have you ever been to a dentist with a PAINLESS needle?! Or digital x-rays you get to see right away on the monitor? Had a tooth density test to early detect cavities? They even have email visit confirmations. The work is well done, and done well for the money. My friends - I plead you to go for regular or at least once a year visit - the savings from a yearly cleaning to a crown are immense! I have been recommending Dental Innovations to my friends for years and ALL have been pleased with their visit (even the scared ones). I cannot recommend Dr Murray and his team at Dental Innovations highly enough! From my first visit, Dr Murray has been caring, thoughtful and patient as we came up with a plan to perfect my smile. The initial visit was incredibly thorough, scanning each tooth with the latest technology and addressing the cavities I needed filled. I've had several cavities filled and each time Dr Murray was meticulous in his work and even though I walked away with absolutely no pain, he took time to call me hours later to check in. I also had an old bonding replaced and I was stunned by the results. The bonding perfectly matches not only the shade but the shape and integrity of the partner front tooth - I can't even tell which one is false anymore! The final major dental procedure I had done with Dental Innovations was teeth straightening with ClearCorrect (an Invisalign competitor). Before I came in, my front teeth had started to shift and I had a gap in my bottom front teeth. I was really unhappy with it so Dr Murray recommended ClearCorrect. He walked me through the expectations and did a full consultation but the whole time I was never pressured to go through with it. When talking through options, Dr Murray was mindful of cost and offered different payment plans to accommodate me. I've seen Dr Murray for just over a year and my smile and dental health has dramatically changed! Truly the best experience I've had with any medical professional! I actually enjoy going to Dental Innovations. The office is located in an older building and up a bit of a flight of stairs. Yet it is well appointed, clean, and bright. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Yet, the best is Dr. Murray himself. He is thorough, compassionate, and fair. I don't remember the last time that I felt any significant pain while having work done. I will say that I believe that it is as painless as dental work can possibly be. Dr. Murray will always discuss my options. As expected, the work that will last the longest will be a bit more expensive. However, this isn't always the prime consideration. Dr. Murray will point out when getting a gold tooth, for instance, if it will show while smiling. He his quite helpful when offering what options are available. He always asks how I have been, and even how my wife is doing. I might add that he keeps up on the latest in dentistry, and that his equipment seems to get regular upgrades as well. For special procedures, the specialists that he has sent me to, have always been top notch as well. read more

Have to confess myself a little bit disappointed. I came into Dr. Murray in April with pain in the corner of my mouth from decay near my wisdom tooth. The plan then was to have my wisdom teeth extracted and then come back in a month to start dealing with multiple cavities. I got the extraction and came back in a month to deal with a new particularly painful area (due to one of the cavities) and had also told them a couple days before my appointment that a bone fragment from the surgery was causing pain in a different area. Dr. Murray only had time to deal with the bone fragment despite the appointment being made to deal with the cavity. While I appreciate his help with the former, I ended up having to see another dentist for the latter because Dr. Murray was on vacation and it was causing too much pain. That's not on him, just bad timing. Still, the plan for my third appointment once he returned was to deal with at least one of the remaining cavities. My appointment started 30 minutes late and after taking more x-rays Dr. Murray told me the normal order of things is to get a cleaning--which there wasn't time for--and then do fillings from cavities. Fine, but I wish this had been communicated to me last time I was in. This whole appointment felt like a waste of time except he did remove a little more of the bone fragment which was nice. Ultimately, I decided I'm going to finish dealing with this elsewhere as I feel like I'm getting a bit of run-around here and this is not the most economical place for dentistry in the first place. I don't mean to be overly critical as there were a lot of good things about this place and the staff, but sometimes it just isn't a fit. read more

Dr. Thomas Murray and staff are great. I have only lived in Chicago for 4 years, and I had been going to the same dentist since I was a kid. Switching from one healthcare provider to another is stressful and scary. However, my dentist from back home recommended Dr. Murray. My first consultation, although lengthy, was very thorough, precise, and to-the-point. Dr. Murray talks to you like a person rather than a patient. Three evenings before New Year's Eve, an old crown from a previous provider cracked. Dr Murray's practice fit me in right away the next day. When my temporary crown cracked at New Year's Even dinner, Dr Murray responded immediately to my text, and at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day he saw me to immediately replace my temporary crown. I was so grateful for his responsiveness--on a major holiday! I was also extremely impressed with the state-of- the-art COVID safety precautions the practice has adopted--making patients and staff as safe as possible in this environment. I've been seeing Dr. Murray since my wife and I moved to Lincoln Square back in 2013 and although I don't go as often as I should, every visit is an absolute pleasure. Dr. Murray and his staff are first rate, professional and friendly. They do EVERYTHING they can to make people feel comfortable, and the most amazing thing I've found after several years is the constant concern that you are not in pain. (He's actually attended "Pain Relief" school..) So get on over there folks. The worst experience in my life!!! They must be paying for good reviews! The staff pretend to be very nice and caring but at the same time they lie about your dental health condition, price and methods of treatment. They worry about money in their pockets only. $474 for cleaning??? Are you kidding??? After deduction of new patient special discount you'll pay the same price as at any other clinic which doesn't offer a discount at all. And Dr. Murray is the first dentist I met who looks at x-rays in the middle of the process of filling a cavity, not before. read more

I had been going to a "dental studio" in Wicker Park for a few years until I got fed up with being upsold to the latest and greatest in dentistry. I was looking for a dentist that knows their stuff and makes decisions based on what is right for you, not their wallet. I have found that dentist in Dr. Murray. I had a cracked filling (poor job by my last dentist) that needed to be repaired. Dr. Murray was able to take my appointment at the last minute, told me my treatment options and the pros and cons of each, and then he got to work. I just started as a patient of Dr. Murray. First, a possible negative for some people, he clearly is a believer in thoroughness. A patient's first visit is just an exam that lasts about an hour. He says they don't do cleanings then because it would take too long. Although his prices are not wildly expensive, paying for the exam and the cleaning separately definitely added up to more than some other dental offices in the area charge for an initial visit. Personally, I think he is worth the extra time and money. Dr. Murray gave me two filings on my next visit, and I was extremely impressed with his work. He didn't mess around and before I knew it, he was done. It took less than half an hour, even though he seemed relaxed and was talking the whole time. It was definitely the most pleasant experience I've had involving someone drilling in my mouth. read more

I am not really sure what the other people are talking about - I've never had to wait long for my appointments. Yes, they are thorough, but better to have that than dentures in the future. I have hated going to the dentist since I was a little kid. It was a painful, awful experience that left me in tears on more than one occasion. So I let my dental care lapse a little as an adult. I brushed and flossed regularly but avoided those visits to the dentist's chair as much as possible. I finally buckled down, found a new dentist (Dr. Murray) and went to see him this spring and have to say - I'm a convert! I actually ENJOYED my experience. So much so I found myself telling my friends about my great new dentist and his digital toys. Before getting started Dr. Murray spent time talking to me about my past dental experiences, what I wanted and needed to get done, and what it was that typically made me dread the dentist. During the exam and my subsequent visits he's been great at communicating what he's doing, why he's doing it, and what the impact is to me. Dr. Murray's office is digital so during my first exam he walked me through my xrays on a large monitor and then used a tiny camera to take photos and show me images of what was actually going on in my mouth and with some of my past dental work. When I went back to get a cavity filled I had my first experience with the no-pain needle. Incredible!! Dr. Murray has actually made me enjoy going to the dentist again, and no one is more surprised about that than me! read more

I moved to Chicago six years ago and needed a new dentist. I tried Dental Innovations just based on the location (this was before I was on Yelp). Over that time Dr Murray and his staff have provided excellent care and have been completely transparent. I can't say if the services are more expensive at Dental Innovations. I certainly think the pricing is fair especially given the way the office embraces technology. Also, I'm not sure one wants to be shopping for the best deal when it comes to health care as you generally get what you pay for. In any event when I first started going to Dr. Murray he recommended I get some old fillings replaced. I did my homework and everything he told me was verifiable. He replaced those fillings the first year and has never recommended any unnecessary treatment or tried to upsell me at all. What else can you really ask for? Anytime I can I've recommended this office to anyone looking for a new Dentist. They've been around for 15 years for a reason. read more

I don't think that the doctor here knows how sub-par his front office staff is. I called to schedule a cleaning and I need some other work. I would be a new patient as well as my daughter. The receptionist was much less than cheerful (I think I woke her up) and when I asked for an appointment, she stated a Wednesday at 1:00 pm. I stated that I work M-F 8-5 and could not attend that time. Radio silence........I said are you still there and asked for a time that may work with my schedule....the response "you said you work M-F 8-5, we have Thursday evening appointments but they are pretty much booked." Again, radio silence...so I stated I guess you can't accommodate me...silence....I thanked her for her time. zzzzzzzzz Hopefully I can find another dentist who may appreciate having 2 new patients. read more
