I'm usually fairly apprehensive of coffee shop gluten free options (because let's be honest most of the time it's a rice krispy treat) but stopped by this place today and got a gluten free cherry-chocolate scone...and it was the best gluten free pastry I've ever had. To top it off the coffee is delicious, the staff is super pleasant, there's a back yard, the space is cozy and inviting and they carry the best kombucha. I am torn because the pastries are good indeed. Maybe even fairly priced. But the sandwiches and salads are upper east side/ eataly priced. In fact, it would be cheaper to get a Pat LaFrieda burger with fries in a romantic restaurant in West Village and with the leftover supplement a glass of wine. This unawareness of the general pricing around the neighborhood or the simple not caring about making some affordable options and not $8 breakfast sandwiches shows a lack of consideration for the neighborhood. Overall, a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. However, some of the pastries are not just pricey for the area but pricey for NYC gourmet pastry shops in general. My grandson (he's 5) took us to this cafe. He told us it was his favorite, gave us rave reviews... and we had to just see what it was all about! Of course he had a hazelnut macaron and I had a pistachio macaron... and tea... Grandpa had coffee and croissants. We were so happy and plan to return. I want to try more offerings. On a side note, most of the staff was friendly but one person was a bit uncomfortable with my little one. While children are exuberant, his main goal was the cookie and was certainly happy. Great addition to the neighborhood! I've been to other coffee shops that serve the same brand of coffee but it's a bit bitter. Not here. It's smooth. The latte's are always on point. I like that I have an option of a double in a larger cup if I'm in the mood. The more European shops in the area give you a Dixie cup that doesn't satisfy my caffeine/steamed milk fix! The kitchen is a glass enclosure with everyone bustling to get the goods out & there is always a nod & a smile coming through the glass. The pastries are yummy & fresh. Out of all of the food menu, I lean towards the breakfast menu. I have an affinity for it so that would be my preference anyway. The breakfast sandwich is my favorite! I get it to go & eat it at home because it's quite literally a handful! In a good way! It's just ooey gooey & yummy so I don't dare eat it in public!! The decor is simple yet inviting. Excellent! The coffee is the best in the area, the food is delicious and the staff is friendly. I love that the owners are always here, it shows they really care about their business, so respectable. Omg - this place is amazing. I ordered a 12" cake from them for my husband's birthday. I did it blindly- they were recommended on a list of New York's best cakes- and was so glad I'd picked them. I called and the baker/ owner was very helpful- he asked about he kind of flavors my husband liked and the number of people in the party- and recommended a cake accordingly. It was a vanilla cake with raspberry mousse and fondant on top. It was amazing! It is some of the best cake we have ever had. I wasn't sure if the trip would be worth it- since I had to take the cake from Prospect Park South to Washington Heights- but it was worth the struggle. It was not too sweet, perfectly balanced in terms of flavor and texture and just the right birthday cake for a hot summer day. I worked out of this coffee shop today and ate breakfast and lunch there. I had the beet salad and vegetarian quiche for breakfast and both were delicious. My latte tasted good but was not hot at all from the first sip. What brought this review down was the cubano sandwich which was terribly bland. Though the sandwich and side salad had fresh ingredients, the plate was not worth what I paid. It was a nice place to work out of but I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

This is absolutely my favorite place to have breakfast or lunch. The food is incredible -- my favorites are the breakfast sandwich and the almond crescents. We don't miss an opportunity to visit this great restaurant anytime we are in Brooklyn. I was in the neighborhood for a doctor's appointment and was pleased to find a coffee place in an area where there are very few nice shops. The place is very cute and charming. However, the prices are extremely high for this area, or any area in NYC for that matter. I was hungry but did not want to pay $13 for an avocado toast. I pay $4.50 at an upscale place in Times Square for the same item made with freshly-baked bread and for that price could have a full meal at thousands of restaurants in the city. I ordered a latte with oat milk and maple syrup. The upcharge was $1.50 for the non-dairy milk and maple syrup. When I questioned the charge, I was told that maple syrup is expensive. While I understand that it's expensive, I only wanted a teaspoon. Purchased in bulk, a good quality maple syrup is less than $.30 an ounce, so that a teaspoon is less than $.15 and oat milk is inexpensive too. There's already a high profit margin on the latte and I can understand a small upcharge to cover the alleged extra costs but $1.50 is excessive. Upon arguing my point, I wasn't charged for the maple syrup, so that my latte came out to "only" about $5.75, which is quite bit more than what I pay at Whole Foods. I'll leave it to the hipsters flooding the area to be overcharged. At least the bathroom was large and clean. I'd so hang the wallpaper in my bathroom. read more

Running an errand quite a bit outside my normal neighborhood and came across this spot. Yelp reviews guided me to the ($12) vegetable sandwich (which doesn't appear on the menu in-person; a crime!), and the friendly staff and pastry case full of treats tempted me into a little raspberry mousse delight. I took these things to go without seeing what I'd ordered, but when I opened the box at home, I was delighted to find not just a huge sandwich but also a gorgeous salad. The mixed greens had thin shavings of beets, radishes and other colorful bits, and the perfect light dressing. The sandwich was one of the top 2 (if not top) veggie sandwiches I'd ever eaten: fresh crusty bread, perfectly cooked mushrooms, eggplant, etc, fresh mozz, and some sort of delightful pesto spread. I was too full to eat even the small the raspberry mouse right after, but when I did, it was delicious, and justified its $5.50 price tag. A return trip is inevitable, despite the trek involved! read more
