They have some of the best pastries, sandwiches, and breakfast sandwiches in Brooklyn. Everything tastes fresh and well made, and the bread is always top-tier. The bacon, egg, and cheese is simple but done really well, with a perfectly cooked egg, smoked bacon, and great bread that makes all the difference. Almost like biting into a cloud. It's located inside DeKalb Market Hall, right next to Trader Joe's, which makes it a super convenient stop. It's a little on the pricey side, but this is NYC, and the quality makes it worth it. I've been wanting to try out this bakery for years now and finally got to at their Dekalb Market Hall location. They have a smaller stand on the ground level of City Point and I was initially disappointed in the limited selection of pastries that they had but quickly realized that they have a larger stand on the basement level in the actual food hall. We got the croissant bread pudding and I thought it was ok. It wasn't too sweet but seemed to be lacking in terms of flavor and texture. The best word to describe it is "dense". Good thing we shared it because I would've been completed bloated had I finished it myself. It probably would've paired nicely with a coffee but we didn't get that. The cream that came with it added a nice sweetness to the pastry. A bit overpriced ($7+). Definitely will be limiting my future visits here because of the prices and the less than impressive taste of the pastries but I do want to try their interesting baklava croissant. read more

Once a week I ordered an iced salted maple oat latte... SO GOOD. It gives very much salted caramel vibes. My default isn't iced drinks, but this has made me an official convert. There is a tall barista, who is always very pleasant and patient. This is notable because coffee shops are notorious for having impatient customers, namely me. They are really smart for doing the sample tastings of their baked goods because it's what made me order the Honey Cornmeal Olive Oil Cake which is moist... but, entirely too expensive. read more

An appealing bakery & cafe in the middle of the food hall. What catches the eyes are the pastries that are beautifully placed on display. Especially the kouign amann. I went on a Monday around 12:45-1 PM, there wasn't a line for ordering so service was fast. I ordered a vanilla latte with almond milk & vanilla syrup, a spinach & feta quiche, and of course the kouign amann. I loved the coffee. Wasn't too sweet when I asked for the vanilla syrup! Just the way I like it. The quiche was off-putting for me hence the 4 stars. I have never had a quiche with almonds and raisins before. So it threw me off. I dislike raisins... so it ruined my taste buds. That's 100% a personal opinion/preference. However, if they were not in my quiche, I would have enjoyed it, because it's very light and has some great flavors. Now... the kouign amann.... that was the highlight for me! I would go here again just to get a dozen. Lol. I saw a previous review of someone saying that it tastes like an Asian dessert. Yes, it does. It tastes like these hard, buttery, sugary puff pastries! I'm not sure if you know what I'm talking about because I don't know the real name of the dessert. I just know that my people (Filipinos) call it a sugary puff pastry. At least where I'm from. I'm always in the City Point shopping/mall and see Café a (you can't miss it--it's right by the entrance on the Flatbush Ext. side) but I've never ordered anything until recently. There's a cafe downstairs in the Dekalb food hall but this review is for upstairs. There's two barstools and some tables and chairs close to the escalator. I ordered a cold brew with half and half and simple syrup. The service is okay--nothing really remarkable. For two days in a row, I ordered a large cold brew and the cup looked like a large but when I came in on Friday, the cup was smaller. I asked about it but they said that it holds the same amount but one is wider. Hmmm...I'm not really convinced but whatever. It's okay but I've only been going here because I'm in the area because I'm on jury duty. I can't say that I would go out of my way to get coffee here. Every 2-4 weeks. I make it my business to treat myself and family to an almond croissant. I always go Essex Market in LES. I was pleasingly shocked when I was in City Point and spied with my little eye, a new Cafe D'avignon. I immediately thanked the staff member for being here. I also rambled off about how sad I was because I had recently gone to the Essex location and they had run out. I usually try to eat half and save half for the next day. Don't be fooled by the line out the door, that's actually for Trader Joe's! Just walk to the front of the line and let the Trader Joe staff know that you're going to the cafe. Pastries here are GOOD. I always get the ham and gruyere croissant but I splurged on Sunday and got the Berry pavlova and pistachio/berry croissant toast. The Berry pavlova is DELICIOUS. it's got a light crumbly crust with berry cream in the center and fresh fruit on top. The toast is bit more dense but really good especially if you like pistachio. I really enjoyed my oat milk flat white- it was excellent!! For a small coffee stand I was pleasantly surprised. Strong and smooth espresso with perfect ratio of coffee:milk for me. Probably one of the best flat whites I've had. They have 2 locations within dekalb (one on the top floor near one of the entrances and one downstairs in the market itself). Is the source of that delicious, buttery aroma that wafts around the entire floor. You're not going to be sad about the croissants, the quiches, the cookies, the croques...but if there's one thing that I keep coming back to, it's the kouign-amann. If you've never had one, it is a magnificent mix of butter, pastry, and sugar, and it will singlehandedly make you fat. But it's worth it, and the lady who hands it to me in the mornings is comfortingly just as bad at pronouncing it as I am. read more

Honestly, having a bakery in town is phenomenal. The coffee is pretty decent as well. The service is a hit or miss. Sometimes the staff can be friendly and efficient, but I've had so many bad experiences as well. I had a server refused to give me a small cold brew without ice because she said she would have to charge me for a medium size cold brew if she gave me one without ice. They for some reason always have an issue with their cashier system. A few weeks back, they asked us to pay cash only because their computer system was down.. so we got our cash and came back to buy $45 dollars worth of pastries.. then they refused to take our $100 bill and made us go to Trader Joes to break our bill into $20s because they did not want to break our $100. This would've been fine if they had just told us initially so we didn't have to make two trips to get cash. Today, I used apple pay to pay for a 10 dollar sandwich and the cashier system was slow. I got a notification that the payment went through on my credit card, but the cashier was insistent that it did not process,.. so I waited for the machine to process my payment. While the machine was processing, she went ahead and reset the computer system. I told there that I received a notification on my Apple Pay that the payment went through. She told me I should check my credit card app because Apple Pay wasn't accurate, so I checked my credit card app and I showed her that my payment went through. She proceeds to yell at me that I need to pay again, claiming now that my credit card app was not accurate. I told her that I did not want to be double charged for a sandwich and she says that if I do get double charged, that I should just call the bank and dispute it. At this point, I was tired of this employee unapologetically yelling at me over a sandwich and was also really annoyed for being asked to spend so much of my time & effort in trying to buy one, so I just left without anything. Please have your machine fixed or have better customer service. read more

Having Cafe d'Avignon inside Dekalb Market is super convenient. They even just added a mini Cafe D'Avignon on the ground floor of Dekalb by the train for quick service coffee and pastries. Every pastry from here is amazing. Just a few of my favorites... the chocolate olive oil cake, the tomato goat cheese croissant, the mini cranberry nut roll with cheddar, and the butter and ham on baguette. Seriously.... all of those are so simple but such delicious bites. Their bread is also amazing. My all time favorite is the anadama loaf which has molasses in it. Anadama doesn't get stale like other loaves do, so it's a great bread to buy if you aren't using it all right away. If you're in and around Dekalb Market def swing by! read more

I'm gluten free so I can't speak to their delicious looking pastries so I was excited to have a coffee shop so close by but they don't even offer the option for any sweeteners, honey, sugar free, exe and the coffees are really small. The coffee it's self has a good flavor but on postmates there's just no options for any customization. I've asked for a little side of sweetener like 10 times to no avail. Makes me sad.
