Loved the old saloon look. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was not as impressive. Everything was greasy and tasted a bit like old oil. Hubby had the fish and chips and said that it was mostly batter and a little fish with greasy fries. I had a French dip that didn't have much flavor but the au ju and like old oil and greasy fries. My granddaughter had the chicken ceasar salad and her friend had a spicy wrap of some kind, they both thought theirs were good. read more

The atmosphere of Diamond Belle Saloon is absolutely iconic. There is a live piano player playing classic tunes like Ragtime Cowboy Joe as well as some Billy Joel/Elton John medleys, the servers are in period authentic clothing on theme with the saloon vibe, etc. The drink I got (Electric Tea) was good! Not the best cocktail I've had though and a bit overpriced, the same can be said for the food too. My mom got the chicken pot pie and I got the french dip. Both were difficult to eat with ease but delicious nonetheless. I'd definitely come back but probably just for a drink and an appetizer, not a full meal. read more

Just had a "light lunch" of two big salads. I enjoyed the Southwest Cobb and my wife, the Main Avenue. Both loaded with grilled chicken and really sharable if you chose to do so. The restaurant, has a large menu and is in the Strater Hotel, a historic old west building with multiple restaurants. Waitresses dress as saloon girls to add to the western flavor. To put it simply, you must go here! The hotel is stunning. The Belle is just as stunning, if not more so. It's like you've stepped back in time! The pianist was so incredibly talented, it was such a blast to hear him play, and he had a great crowd interaction that made it so personable. We came here on my birthday. We aren't big drinkers (or drinkers at all for that matter) so we came for the ambience and food. Great piano player who was kind enough to sing happy birthday to me. Had to return the chicken wings as they were awful. So tough we couldn't eat them. Waitress brought us out egg rolls instead which were ok. Loaded nachos ok. What's interesting is she took off the wings from our bill. Yet when she ran the credit card she must have added her tip because it was 5.00 more. Hubby left additional tip and we couldn't stick around to ask about it. The girls are dressed in period attire and the ambience is great. Enjoyed a lunch here on a Saturday afternoon @ The Strater historic hotel. We had cocktails; old fashion & Bloody Mary for starters and a Reuben and Italian Grinder sandwiches. They were pricey but delicious in a 1885 hotel saloon. Staff was outstanding and the bartender comped the old fashion as I helped his employee learn to tie his uniform necktie. LOL! A historic landmark of Durango. If you are visiting the city, you have to come here. We grabbed drinks at the bar and were impressed at the history. It does get busy so we decided to come during the middle of the afternoon. In the evenings, they will often have performances. We didn't try the food but it looked like they had a good selection. I was not expecting the food to be as good as it was considering this is obviously a huge tourist spot in Durango and they could probably get away with lower quality and still have the same amount of guests, so I was very pleasantly surprised. We didn't order anything that was super fancy, but what we got was done extremely well and so tasty! I'm a huge history buff and have worked at multiple Gold Rush boom towns, so it was fun to see the waitresses dressed in period saloon girl wear and to be in the authentic building. It reminded me a lot of the Red Onion Saloon in Skagway Alaska where I used to live. Our waitress was great and I have never had soda water that was literally dancing in the air above my glass as much as the soda water I got here! That's some powerful CO2 and I love it! Came here with family who are in town visiting, but honestly I would go back as a local just because the food is great and the ambience is great and the prices were reasonable. read more

When we got here there were several tables closing up their tabs but still waited well over 30 minutes for a table as people were hanging out listening to the piano player. When the tables started to open up they were all upstairs and we were the very first table to sit down however the waitress took everyone else's food and drink orders ahead of us. We've been waiting well over 15 minutes for her to come back and take out order. We've been here and already know what we want! There are only 5 (6-ish) tables up here! Passing the time until our ride on the Polar Express we needed to get something to eat. We decided to grab a bite in the hotel. What a better place to eat. The decor matches the rest of the hotel and once again other than the modern conveniences takes one back to a much different time. Velvet wallpaper, wooden tables and chairs and 1920's curtains. Stopped in the Diamond Belle for dinner. It was a bit of a challenge to find a table for three, but we were finally able to snag one before the live music kicked off. The musicians that evening, The Blue Moon Ramblers, were a really tight band. The service was great, once we found a spot, and the waitress was sweet. The food was okay, but not outstanding; they did not have any sides that were gluten free. I would recommend this if you're after the saloon experience, want to pop in for a drink, listen to music, and feel like you've gone back in time as you cross the threshold, but not expecting much from the food. 3 for food, 4.5 for atmosphere. read more

After having just checked into the Strater Hotel and unloaded our luggage in our room upstairs, my wife and I came down to check out the Diamond Belle. It was late afternoon when we entered the saloon from the hotel, so the place wasn't too overly crowded. Since no one was up there when we came in, we immediately go upstairs and I take a few pictures of the bar from the second-story dining area. As I'm doing this, I look down and thought I recognized someone... Naw, it couldn't be him... My eyesight is really starting to fail me, that's all. Besides, we just saw him a couple of hours ago in Silverton... Just to be sure it wasn't who I thought it was, I would go back downstairs and walk by the guy as we made our way out the saloon's main entrance. Up close, I could tell for certain. So down I went, with my wife following. As I walked by him, I couldn't believe it. It WAS him! Jon Hudson, the same piano guy that was playing in The Outlaw in Ouray the night before last, and the same Jon Hudson we had just seen at The Bent Elbow not more than two hours earlier in Silverton. But here he was, and there we were, running into Jon in three different cities inside three different saloons! At this point, I start to get a bit weirded out. I mean, what are the odds that this is just a coincidence? Nevertheless, we get a picture of all three of us in it this time. In fact, I posted that picture here in Yelp - you can pretty much tell by the look on my face that I'm suspicious. It was starting to remind me of that bit in National Lampoon's Vacation, where Chevy Chase kept running into Christie Brinkley everywhere he went. Except in my case, it's this young, dashing, and very highly skilled piano player and MY WIFE! For my peace of mind, I had to ask Jon before we moved on out this saloon's doors, "Hey? You're not going to Santa Fe tomorrow by chance, are you?!" Jon laughed and answered, "No!" Whew! That's good, that is, unless I run into Jon Hudson the following night. If that were to happen, I might have had to shoot myself a piano player in Santa Fe! So my wife and I left to go explore Durango while there was still light out, but later we came back to the Diamond Belle for dinner. Here's a hot tip! All of the food from within the hotel - including this saloon - share the same kitchen. That means you can order anything here from any of the Strater Hotel food menus. When we ate in the saloon, I ordered a scallop special they were touting inside the restaurant. In my experience, the food, drinks, and dessert were absolutely fantastic, and the service here was impeccable. read more
