As a Registered Nurse, I know good healthcare from bad healthcare. Derm Refresh by far exceeded what I expected. Alex, the Physician's Assistant treated me like I was part of his family. I was given a free analysis and was not expected to purchase any treatments or products. I placed my trust in Alex and recieved a Botox treatment. Within the next day, my family, friends and co-workers could notice the difference from the magic that Alex had performed on my 36 year old face. I have been back twice by choice, and was surprised with Alex's honesty. He is so honest that he informed me that what I was requesting was what I did not need. Living in Los Angeles, medical professionals like Alex are hard to come by. He could have easily sold me more Botox or services that I didn't need. Instead, he was honest and upfront about when I should revisit and what I services I should investigate and look into before recieving. He even provided me with the education and resources for me to go home with. I ended up not spending the extra money and was happy the next day. I have also recieved the photo facial resurfacing from Alex and I noticed results within two weeks. I went for an IPL package of 3 and got 4. Sounds great, right? Not really. When I went in for a consultation for brown sunspots/ over pigmentation. The doctor told me that the IPL would be the treatment I need vs. Fractional Laser. I went in for the 1st treatment. Went home. I got redness, sore, hot face for the first 24 hrs. Then as days went on the spots turned black and slowly flaked off. It took a total of 8 days to get my usual face back. I was happy with the result as the brown spots on my face were gone. In a period of less than a month, they were slowly coming back even with regular 70SPF sunscreen. Went in for the 2nd treament didn't work, all the things I described above didn't happen. I called the doctor's office the next day and told them that I don't think it worked. They scheduled me for another one, to make up for the one that didn't work. Same thing. When I complained, he nicely said to be patient. 3rd. and last one. Same thing. No visible results. I wrote an email saying that I wasn't happy with the result, as I don't think the successive treatments were successful. I was told to schedule a consultation. I went in only to be told that he thought I wasn't a good candidate for IPL, and that I should try some fade creams and put some concealer on it. Isn't that what the initial consultation is for? To find out if I'm a good candidate for a certain procedure? Don't tell me that after I've spend my $600! Then he tried to sell me some more stuff - fade creams. He could have told me the response to my email in an email instead of asking me to come in, just to waste more of my time and money. Also he was never on time for any of my appointments. The doctor was 30 mins to over an hour late to each one. Even when I scheduled to be the 1st patient of the day. The doctor seems very nice. But that's about it. I didn't spend $600 for niceness or politeness. I would have much rather gotten results. read more

I recently came to Derm Refresh for two different appointments for IPL treatments. I wanted to have a few sun spots and small moles removed. I had a fantastic experience. Dr. Nguyen was extremely kind, friendly, and patient with me when it came to describing the procedure, answering all of my questions, and just being all around professional. He made the whole experience as comfortable and relaxing as it could possibly be, considering that an IPL is someone zapping your face with a laser beam! I was so impressed with the results, that I referred a really good friend of mine for an IPL treatment there as well. She, too, had a fantastic experience, and just kept going on and on about what a "sweetheart" Dr. Nguyen was. Everyone in the office, and at the front desk, is also very friendly. I originally went there because the prices are reasonable.. could be better, but not bad. He's very professional & great at what he does. I will definitely go back to Der Refresh. After reading reviews on Yelp, I wanted to give this Derm Refresh a try. I called on Monday morning at 9:30AM, got the answering machine. I tried calling again at 10:30AM and got the machine again. I left a message for a call back since I had some questions about IPL and still have not received a call back and it is Tuesday night. In my opinion, if you are operating a business and would like to provide good customer service, you should want to give your customers a call back within a 24 hour timeframe or less! read more

I've always had problems with my skin growing up and knew I had to finally do something for myself. After a consultation with Dr Nguyen, I felt very comfortable with him and highly impressed with him and his staff. He took a lot of time in explaining what my condition was and the different treatment options. After the skin analysis, I understood where my problem areas were and the procedures a available for my needs. After about 8 sessions, I can tell the difference and feel my greatest yet! My skin feels more refreshed and now I know how to better care for my skin. Took some time to heal but like any medical procedure, time lets it heal. Too early to say how my skin reacts to the treatment, but this place has the best, friendliest customer service. Alex was the P.A. who administered the laser and he made something very painful and hard to do easier to bear - including giving me extra time and care in recovery. I had three IPL treatments and a micro laser peel. Dr. Alex Tenazas was the treating physician... he is awesome. I have had many IPL treatments and peels in the past, but never had much success eliminating my brown spots. Finally, after years of expensive treatments, the brown spots are almost gone. I feel the doctor really cares about you and will do his best to achieve the results you are looking for. I went for an IPL facial one month ago. Althought it was uncomfortable during the facial, all the discomfort was gone by the next morning. Unlike several of the reviews listed here, I did not have any problems with my face following the IPL. Not sure I notice a huge difference but I know that at my age I need a few treatments for full effects. Plan to go back for at least two more IPL treatments. read more

I received an IPL/Photo Facial treatment 2 weeks ago from Dr. Nguyen. He took the time to explain what the procedure could do for my skin as well as the redness and swelling that I could expect after the treatment. Dr Nguyen advised me of exactly what I would feel during the treatment. It felt like a rubber band was snapping my skin; it did hurt a little, but not badly. Dr Nguyen advised me that the brown spots on my face would first get darker and then lighten up and that the procedure would eliminate some of the redness in my skin and small broken capillaries near my nose. Dr. Nguyen did say that since this was my first IPL/Photo Facial procedure that the treatment would be milder than future procedures since he would see how my skin reacts. My skin actually looked pretty good afterward, a little pink and a little swelling. The brown spots on my skin got darker but after a few days disappeared. I am very satisfied and would very much like to have additional IPL/Photo Facial treatments. read more

The service from the front desk was great but they are always trying to upsell everything. I bought one of those $99 photofacials from living social for myself and my mom for her birthday and while I was receiving the procedure, they tried to persuade me to get botox. I wasn't interested and the nurse tries again with the $99 for 12 units of botox. Well, I said I would get it for my mother for her birthday, so my mom went in to get the botox and I was in the room with her, and I even asked the nurse again that the price was $99 and he said yes, and when I went to go check out they tell me the nurse put down that they injected 24 units and I was being charged for something that I did not agree to and they made me pay for the addtional 12 units. This filippino male nurse was a con and I tell you be careful when you get your service and make sure that they don't manipulate you to buy more services, you will have to pay more than what you agreed to. My mom felt so bad but you know what I wanted it to be a good experience for her so I didn't make a big deal but that is no way to do business. Oh another thing my mom still looks like she got burned on both cheeks, looks awful, I hope it improves. Yikes! read more
