Just had my hair cut with Natalie, who did a stellar job. Not just with the cut, but the styling and blow dry left my hair like silk. Even the front desk girl asked if I had the Brazilian Blowout. Nope, just a fantastic stylist. I showed her some pictures of what I had in mind and she took it from there. I am so pleased. Oh and my fair smells divineeeee. I really like the vibe of this place, even with its somewhat remote location in a very unremote shopping center. Everyone who worked there was super nice and friendly. The environment of the salon is very comfortable and clean. The staff are all very nice and happy. Laura, the manager, did an amazing transformation to my hair. She gave me this cute medium length hair cut with layers in the front "to shape my face" she says . My hair grows really thick and heavy so she did a number on taking off that weight that I hated so much!! I found this salon on Yelp a year and a half ago when I moved to the area from out of state. I got matched up with Brittany as my hair stylist on my first appointment, and I've been going to her ever since! My cut & color are always exactly what I want. Sometimes I treat myself to a conditioning treatment she does that makes my hair feel so soft & healthy. She's outgoing and really funny, cares about her clients and takes the time to get to know you. I always get compliments on my hair. Brittany is the best and I am so happy I found her! The salon itself is bright & very clean. They're always playing good music. They sell a lot of quality products, and they use a very convenient text confirmation system. It is a pretty expensive salon, but if you're like me and you're dedicated to self-care, it's definitely worth the money. I always look forward to coming here. I had a Groupon for Salon Desa, and I was excited to use it. I am definitely an aficianado of a nice hair salon, and the Yelp reviews were very positive, so I decided to give it a try. I had read stellar reviews of Natalia, and I attempted to book an appointment with her--I actually purchased the Groupon because of her excellent Yelp reviews. However, she apparently does not accept the Groupon any longer, and she refused to book an appointment with me. Disappointment. I then called the salon and booked an appointment based on my requests: someone who could do a good layered bob and a partial weave. I was booked an appointment with someone else. When I arrived for my appointment, the salon was pleasant, I was seated in my chair quickly. I chatted with my stylist and told her my desires: a partial weave, a layered bob preferably with a razor to thin out my thick hair. I showed her a picture of my last haircut that reflected what I wanted. What I ended up with unfortunately was not what I requested. My stylist did not end up using a razor, instead she said she would "cut into it" but it was not the look I wanted. My hair color, instead of a touch up of what I had, turned out quite brassy. She parted my hair on the wrong side when she cut it and was unapologetic when I pointed it out She did not show me the back when she was done--kind of important with a bob. In the meantime, she chatted with me about how those who have come with the Groupon have been those who like to "coupon shop." Nice. Rather than finding a nice salon with a talented stylist, as I was hoping, I found an impersonal salon, a mediocre stylist, and am left with brassy hair that I need to get redone. I will be returning to Eden Salon in Huntington Beach, which I highly recommend. In the meantime, I am still out more than $100 and tears after what I hoped to be a positive experience for a good value. Boo. read more

I am a pretty religious yelper and love to give positive reviews, so I waited a while to write this one. Surprisingly I was not impressed with Desa, or should I say the stylist Natalia that everyone raves about on here?? Yelp has always been my key to finding great hair dressers, but sadly it was a miss this time. When moving to orange county I did a lot of research to find a person I could trust and develop an ongoing relationship with. After reading Natalia's reviews about how talented and nice she was I thought, sweet, this sounds like my girl. Review after meeting her...I found her personality to be slightly sterile and arrogant. She did my highlights and cut ok, generic, nothing bad, nothing fabulous. It was her customer service that really killed it for me. After washing out product, she brought me back to her station to "comb" out my hair. Instead of using a wide tooth comb or vent brush she used her paddle brush, vigorously brushing from roots down. As a former hair dresser I can tell you that this is the best way to break hair as it puts stress on fragile wet hair by tightening the knots (your supposed to brush tangles staring from the ends up). Ok so not that big of a deal for someone who has a lot of hair or a strong head, but I had just told her that I was concerned about loosing hair (I had recently had a baby a few months prior). She either didn't care or pay attention. Not a surprise at this point, considering any conversation with her was like pulling teeth and I was not enjoying myself. The straw that broke the camels back was when I went to pay. After showing her my phone and yelp 10 percent off coupon, which i had verified with her when I booked appointment, she informed me that I needed to check in. At that time I had a smart phone, not an iPhone, so it did not allow me. Mind you the coupon on my phone did not specify that i needed to check in, it just said 10 percent off for new customers. After informing her that I was having problems checking in and her responding by saying I don't know, I have a iPhone and I just do "this," she walks away. I am expecting her to come back with an answer, but she doesn't. I realize after waiting 10 minutes at her station that she is not returning, so I walk up to the receptionist to pay. Miraculously Natalia pops out from a door right behind the receptionist. It is an awkward and uncomfortable moment... just how I want to feel during my first "relax" outing post baby. 10 percent is really not a big deal, but if a salon and stylist advertise something, should they not honor it and worse if they do should they make you feel like your a horrible person for using it? I still ended up tipping her 20 percent, cause that's what I do.. I know idiot right. Funny she got a lot nicer after that and then had the nerve to say...you should just get an iPhone. Yeah, I'll be sure and do that just so I can save 10 percent on a rude hairdresser. read more

I actually got my Yelp account because I had been researching AND researching...aaaannnddd researching different salons to see which one I was going to trust on cutting my hair. I am extremely picky when it comes to my hair. My hair is my security blanket. After having long hair for sooO long and Never having cut it short...EVER ..I decided if I was going to chop off my hair I needed an AMAZING salon. After bookmarking almost 30..yes 30 different salons I chose desa's salon. So here is my review... Tapia, the owner, did an AMAZING job on my hair as well as making me feel comfortable. I thought FOR SURE I was at least going to cry ONCE but he made me feel SO Comfortable and took excellent care of me. He heard me out and saw all of my different pictures of suggestions for the hair style I wanted. (I even took pictures of what i DIDNT want to look like!) He gave me advice on my style, understood my concerns and did his magic. ...ok ok ok so I had to EDIT my RATING and price range a bit because I got my hair cut exactly a week ago yesterday and decided, "HEY, WHY NOT FOLLOW TAPIA'S ADVICE AND GO A LITTLE BIT SHORTER!" now I'm talking 2 inches(not that big of a deal) and thought he would for sure help me out! For my wash, haircut and blow dry I was charged $80. This was a saturday, I called back 2 days later to make an appointment for this saturday to cut a little bit shorter and how much he would charge me. I never got a call back until friday, for the confirmation. When I asked about the 2 inches the receptionist had me on hold for 5 minutes after she went to ask him and Told me that it was a COMPLETELY new hair cut so it was going to be another $80!!! NOW IM TALKING 2 inches! it hadn't even been a whole week yet! Well anyways, I cancelled with them and called around different salons to see who was available for saturday. I explained to them what happened, what I wanted and how much it would charge me. I called about 10 (YES 10) different salons and they all were AMAZED at what desa was going to charge me to go shorter. They all said It should have been FREE or no more than $40. I was almost a regular at Desa =/ until they made me feel like, just another customer. What a bummer...and you would think they would help me out after I paid $80 for a HAIRCUT ONLY. oh well... Other than that...my hair did come out great, but the salon I did go to on saturday heard me out and told me how ridiculous it was but they would help me out :) they found a regular! AND my haircut has recieved SO MUCH MORE compliments! As you all know if you have read my reviews I am a very critical person. I like to pay for things/services and I like to know that I pay for what I get and I expect if I pay at a certain price, that it should be well worth it or be satisfied at least. & that should be the mantra for living, right? I came to Desa two weeks ago, and before I actually booked the appointment I had a previous set appointment at another new salon, but after talking to the receptionist at Desa I realized how professional the receptionist was vs. the previous salon I called, I immediately gave them 1 brownie points, and after speaking to her she advised me to call the stylist directly so that she can give me the breakdown or somewhat of a phone consultation. I did that and overall experience on the phone was good, so I got a better feeling about Desa and Natalia (the stylist). One second after I got off the phone with Natalia, she texted me and email me my time, and direction, literally directions on how to avoid rush hour off the 55 south, can you believe that??? Now this is impressive, which = 3 more brownie pts. On the day of my visit, and just like previous reviewers for Natalia I've received warmth and as if we have known each other for years, she is very friendly and very down to earth. I asked for an all over ombre and I got exactly what I asked for, she even gave me a shampoo to revatlize my color for FREE!!! I've never gotten anything from a salon for FREE, not even a small scrunchie rubberband. lol = 4 brownie pts To top it off, I left happy, and a day after she text me to check how I'm doing with my new hair, seriously who does that??? A follow up to see if you are satisfied, and if not she will tone it for FREE, now this awesome! She's good, and worth every penny. 2 more brownie pts. Total Brownie Points for Natalia = 10!!! This amazing Yelp adventure began on an overcast Saturday morning with a few hours to spare. Driving in the car, I decided it was time at bare minimum for a trim and possibly a different style. Using my yelp app for hair salons, nothing was calling my attention. Then, I decided to see who had a "check in" offer and Desa Salon came up with the a high rating and 10% off any service. I called and the receptionist asked if I could get there in 15 minutes, I was there in 13. It is in the shopping center across from Triangle Square on Harbor, upstairs next door to a chiropractic/yoga place. Walking into the salon, some of my concerns of trying another salon with bad results were calmed down. The decor was soothing but stylish. I was fit into Jeffrey's schedule and his consultation was on point. Since 2008, it has been my goal to have long hair. The type of hair that Rapunzel would be jealous of. After some chance encounters with tranny hairdressers, $7 haircuts and a love of short hair, I have finally made it to what people would call "not short" hair. I told him I wanted long hair but was also feeling antsy with my hair and was open to what he suggested. I have had situations where the stylists where they don't hear that I want long hair and start hacking away to give me a style so I was waiting to see if that would happen again. Again, concerns calmed down but this time with his awesome hair massage. He recommend to hold off on bangs until certain layers had grown longer, he told me my hair was healthy and delivered on exactly what he said he would do. I also appreciated that he didn't try to sell any other services, he understood what I wanted and when I did, it was what would compliment me most rather than what would cost more to do. I left Desa loving my hair and compliments through out the day. I will definitely be going back to Jeffrey, probably in the near future for the gloss he mentioned. read more

I just moved to HB at Thanksgiving, and was dreading the quest to find a new hair stylist. I feel like it's such a scary thing to do. Well, let's just say that I am grateful for all of the Yelpers who wrote glowing reviews of Natalia. Without them, I wouldn't have found such a fabulous new hair stylist! Natalia was absolutely wonderful. She took a lot of time to get to know me and my hair before she did anything at all. I have long, fine, curly hair and like to be able to wear my hair straight and curly. Natalia definitely knows what she is doing! She cut my hair so perfectly so that it looks amazing both straight AND curly! And, it is SO much easier to style now! Natalia has easily earned her place as my new hair stylist and I will not be going anywhere else! No need to waste your time worrying about picking a new stylist - just go to Natalia and all of your fears will disappear. :-) read more

I'm sure many will agree that when it comes to hair, it's ridiculously hard to find "the one". For awhile now, I've been searching for the perfect hairstylist...and I think my quest might be over. You know those days when you suddenly have the urge to chop off your hair? Or maybe that's just me. Anyway, I'd been thinking about it for awhile, and last week, I just snapped. I went on autopilot: logged into Yelp, searched for about 5 seconds, found Desa, and made an appointment. Within 24 hours, my hair was gone! (Okay, fine, I exaggerate; to me, "chopping off my hair" means "trimming off two inches".) Let me tell you about Jeff, the stylist. It's obvious from my 5-star review that I liked the cut, so I won't get into that. What I really liked about Jeff was that he made sure he understood what I wanted before he started cutting. Then, throughout the process, he was patient with my random freak-out moments and assured me that he would have me "Vegas approved" after I told him about my upcoming trip. For starters, let me say that I don't like going to salons. I don't like being judged by the counter staff, I don't like someone touching my hair compulsively while asking me if I watched the latest season of LOST last night. I don't like the gossip while I have my hair combed back and forth and back and forth and lastly, I don't want a bunch of product that I would never use pushed on my like Girl Scout Cookies in front of the supermarket. There is none of this at Desa with Natalia. I can text her directly to get an appointment, she is always ready for me with no delay. She is no bullshit, get it, get your hair done and get on with your day. She listens to whatever crazy idea I come in with, talks me off the ledge and gets me something that will look good on me and grow-in well since I don't always make it in as frequently as I should. If I feel like talking, she always has a funny story. If I'm not in the mood for people, she gets it and does her work fast and my hair always ends up better than I could have hope for. I would recommend Natalia to strong and meek people alike. She can do whatever she thinks is best or what you think is best, just tell her either way. I started going to Desa this year after my stylist, Natalia Bolanos, moved to this salon. Natalia does amazing color and cuts and I would follow her anywhere! She always succeeds in making my hair look exactly how I want it, plus she works very efficiently. I am extremely picky about my blonde highlights and she gets them right every time. Also, she managed to indulge my desire to go from bright blonde to bright red and back to blonde (the pics of my hair posted to my profile speak for themselves!) over the course of a few months, without ever making my hair look damaged or a strange interim color. You know that saying...once you go black, you never want to go back? I was born with black hair, so of course my natural tendency was to dye my hair to every color but black. But lately I had been yearning to go back. It was only the horror stories from other people dyeing their hair black that stopped me from doing it. Thanks to Lisa Wingard's magical color mixing skills, I am back to my black hair and never been happier. Looks so good and natural, and feels soft and healthy! I fully enjoyed my visit to DESA. I have to admit that I followed my first and only stylist Natalia Bolanos there, who I totally love and trust to always fix me up right. The space is larger then it seems, many intimate and warm but modern feeling spaces. Nice decor and a fabulous coffee machine called to me more than the gossip magazines, I'd almost expected to see a couple iPads casually placed around the table with the issue of GQ. I'm not thrilled with the choices of hair product for sale there, but that's hardly an issue. I can't recommend Natalia and her new home DESA enough. Hope you go again and again, I will. read more

I am from Nor Cal and have been loyal to my hair dresser up there for 9 years. I am going to a wedding next weekend, so last time I went home I asked for the ombre.
