I thought I had left a review at some point, but really just go to not only this location but the first one, downtown, located at 2003 E Charleston Blvd; 89104. It's been locally owned since the 1950's and their inventory and services respond to us locals which is really a switch from nationally or franchised owned companies/businesses. You actually are offered what you want and need. They also have an online catalog, art classes, and picture and photo framing and more. My parents really appreciated them and made good use of their supplies since they moved to Las Vegas in the 1970's. I have known the owner since I started needing architectural and art supplies, while attending UNLV in the 2000's. They have been a constant and reliable resource for me and anyone I direct to them. They do truly outstanding framing work. I've been to several places in Las Vegas, and this one is by far the best. I brought in a complex three-part piece that measured a total of 82" x 42", and they matched and framed each section with incredible precision. I honestly didn't know what to expect when I dropped it off, but CJ went above and beyond. The only thing worth mentioning is that it took a little longer than other places would have to complete. That said, it makes sense when the quality is this high. If you're looking for top-notch framing, this is the place. Just plan to give them a bit of extra time to work their magic. read more

Do not shop here even if you attend unlv, I attend unlv as a student and traveled 4 miles on public transportation just to be told that their system was down and they only accept cash. I feel, rightfully so I got mildly agitated and left the store to get cash. Only to be told not to come back, I did not scream or cuss inside their establishment, I did not break or trash any of their items, I set what I was planning to buy down and left moving on to find a atm, the man followed me out the door and screamed at me after leaving not to come back which I didn't, I'm not a confrontational person and I hardly post or review but this was highly unprofessional especially because I've spent over $500 at my time at unlv at this store, as it is the recommended store to shop at locally. Do not go here, it is not for students, the prices are not student friendly and if I weren't a student I would not have made the trip to their establishment 100% guaranteed. if they're going to be ungrateful for the customers they do have they do not deserve more. I'd also like to mention before hand I had called to check they had what I needed in stock only to be met with constant ringing, what business doesn't answer the phone??? It could have saved me a two hour trip there and back. read more

Shop local! This place has been in Vegas for many years. They carry a wide variety of art supplies for all of your needs and are located in the Southwest part of town. I visited here for some stretcher bars for giclees I purchased on vacation. They had them! There is a nice little back room space for classes as well. read more

The owners are lovely people. They were very helpful and gave me some good advice. They even showed me where they hold classes and what they do. So personable. I enjoy shopping for myself and important artists in my life and prefer to spend a few extra dollars here rather than going to a big box store like Michaels. I love shopping small when I can, and Desert Art Supplies is the place to be for..well...art supplies! In college I frequented DAS, and recently got back into charcoal. I stopped in and was able to find what I needed, plus more! You are sure to get carried away when you're mind starts wondering with everything you can create. This store has been around an incredible long time and there's good reason: they're amazing! They have art supplies for most anything you're working on. They can also scan in artwork, as well as print it out in many different sizes (acid-free paper, canvas, and more). They even do custom framing. ALL at reasonable prices! The owner of this family-owned business continues to hire wonderful people to manage operations (even though he's there most every day, too). When you go in, you feel like family! Cool place! A ton of supplies, everything from brushes to paints, calligraphy and canvas. Walking in I caught site of a wall of minitures and models, things for that train set and mini landscape if you wanted it. That told me this place was good, the depth of suppies is endless. They even have a work room and will do framing, staff friendly and helpful, great shop. read more

I am horribly disappointed with Desert Art Supplies. We just had a very bad customer service experience. My teenage son went there with an idea for a project (finishing a desk) a few weeks ago, and an associate helped him to pick out some resin. Turns out it had a price of $130! My son, not knowing any better, bought the product, but I convinced him to go a different direction--a more economical and less problematic direction. He went to return the brand new, unopened product and was told that they don't accept returns on Art Resin. This was not posted, it was not explained to him, and it was not on the receipt. I called and spoke to the store manager, and was told that they have a sign posted by the register stating that they don't accept returns on molding materials. When I asked what that meant, she said resin is considered a molding material. I explained that my novice teenager had no way of knowing this and that it wasn't clearly posted, but they still refused to accept the return of this new, unopened resin product because "it's store policy." I've looked online, and plenty of other stores will accept returns such as this, and we're very upset that we're now stuck with this because of their "policy." They'd rather stick with a very unclear and poorly posted policy than treat their customers fairly. Buyer beware! Shop elsewhere! read more

This is a much smaller Desert Art than the one at Charleston, but in an infinitely better and safer area. The staff is friendly and helpful. The selection isn't the best, but seems to have good products and not shlocky student grade stuff that you'll find in Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Great place if you need artist quality art products. Another plus is their classes which is held in the back of the shop. Oil painting classes, watercolor, etc for a very fair price. read more

I've been buying supplies from this store for about 6 years now and I've also taken a few painting classes as well from one of their awesome teachers Gabbie. This class has not only helped me fine-tune my painting skills but answered just about every question I had. I now fuly understand so many different aspects of art and I owe so much of the credit to this incredible team of people. The amount of patience these people have for a person like me, helps stimulate my creative flow. Everyone there is so knowledgeable and Sharon, CJ, and Debbie have helped me out immensely. You can always get stuff cheaper at the chain stores or Walmart but you will NEVER get the services you get at Desert Art. Also keep in mind, you get what you pay for. The staff at Desert Art are always available to answer questions and seems to me they are artists themselves. If this place wasnt so pricey Id give them five stars. The service here is excellent. Despite the small size of this store, i usually leave with everything i needed. I like the fact that they have open stock on items such as art stix. What this means is they sell each color individually so you dont have to buy the whole box when you only need a color or two. They have ALL of your art needs, from painting & drawing supplies to mould making and printmaking supplies. Not the biggest store - theres a larger one on charleston - but itll do. read more

Bad customer service as of late. They posted prices, and I matched it up according to what the chart and the product said, but the man at the counter refused to honor what the charts clearly read and matched up to based on the product info itself. I've been coming here for weeks on end for silicone and pigments for my own handmade business. I stopped in for pigments today, but after this experience today, I will be sacrificing convenience and buy my materials online through the manufacturers. The guy at the desk just cost you a VERY consistent customer and local creator that was dropping $50-90 each visit every week/week and a half, over pinching $3. Congratulations. This is the best local art supply store there is! I've been a (Charleston) customer of theirs since 1999. This business goes above & beyond what any others would do. Back then I was struggling & the owner really helped me out. He could've charged me for all the extra work that he did, but he didn't. And to be honest, there's a young employee now days (Henderson) that is treating me with the same kindness & helpfulness that I received some 20yrs ago. I hope that everyone who reads this will take their art needs to this family owned mom & pop shop rather than to those corporate run super stores. I get all my water-based airbrush supplies here! I like their selection of jars, and stencils. A little pricey, but over all they carry SERIOUS art supplies, things you will not find at regular art supply stores. I took an airbrush class here once. I really liked it. Very small class , three people only. It was great actually because fewer people meant more attention from the instructor. I love their selection of spray paints very bright and wonderful. Made the mistake of buying a foam cutter from Desert Art Supplies on Friday. It didn't work as expected so I tried to return it. There's nothing on the receipt that states there's no returns nor is there a sign posted in the store. They refused to accept my return and refund my money. I explained to the staff that I had to use the machine in order to discover if it would help me or not. They stated they cannot accept used items. They lost my business forever. read more

She was given her first set of oil paints decades ago by my grandmother. She was a dear family friend. She encouraged my artistic interests and involved both my mother and me in local art councils in our area. She had always been like another mother but on 8/5 my Uncle finally succeeded in marrying her. So now she is my Aunt. We left the hubbub of the Strip and ended up eating at Weiss's. As we returned to my car I invited her to browse art supplies with me. Art truly joins our spirits. She enjoyed dozens of art forms and had recently prepared canvases or boards for silver drawing. The soft silver wire she needed was only about 2.5 inches long. The two young folks working searched high and low. Unable to locate they offered to call... But my aunt lives out of town. She had expressed how much she would be delighted to locate this crucial tiny item. As we left they must have kept looking because lo and behold almost to the car we were joyfully summoned back. this is the perfect little art supply shop. it's small, which is good because i often find my head spinning when walking into massive art stores. they only carry the best and most necessary items which makes it easy. the staff is knowledgeable and most of them are artists too and can offer first-hand advice. the framing is GREAT, the turn around may take a couple more days, but 100% worth the wait. read more
