Scheduled my vehicle for a front alignment and to have them replace my tie rods as I had just replaced all my suspension parts but those. On the appoinment day and time I was told it would be 2-4 hrs wait as there was a vehicle on the rack with issues. OK. I came back the next day. They replaced my tie rods and did the alignment. The vehicle was in the shop 1 Hour. They charged me for 1.5 hrs labor for the tie rods alone (I supplied my own new parts). If you can't install tie rods in 30 min you should not be a mechanic. I questioned why I was charged for 1.5 hrs labor when it took only 20-25 min, and was told "the program says it takes that long". Again, it doesnt take that long to replace tie tods. Not OK. Charge for the actual labor performed. In my book that is dishonest, charging for something they didnt do. I will not be going back. 2 stars because they were fairly quick. read more

I brought my van back in because of an issue from there last repair. Diego said they would look into it to get it resolved. Dropped off at 830 am and called around lunchtime and they hadn't even looked at it. I arranged a ride so I had to come pick my van up and they were rude. No apologies, just handed my key back. They didn't want to deal with my car because I already paid them for an unsatisfactory job. I wouldn't recommend. read more

Diego is conscientious and honest. He is carrying on the tradition of Ken, who hired and trained him many years ago. He tries to diagnose the specific problem and fix only that, instead of just replacing entire assemblies (and charging you more because the assembly is composed of numerous parts that all have to be paid for). This visit wasn't entirely successful, but Diego was honest about and only charged me for what he did manage to fix. The window controls all work now, but we still don't know why the door locks sometimes trigger by themselves. He was unable to get them to misbehave while he had the vehicle, so I'll just have to wait for them to misbehave again. read more

Good: I've been going to Desert Auto Works for a number of years. Ken is amazing! The quality of his works, his welcoming personality, and his attention to detail are what set him apart from other shops for me. On more than one occasion he has gone above and beyond what I would have expected, and I will always trust his opinion as a master technician. Not once have I ever felt the need to ask him for a quote because I know his prices would be fair for parts and labor. He felt like family after only seeing him a few times. Bad: Unfortunately Ken is not spending time in the shop anymore. I can't fault him for this, as he is going to medical school and taking care of his family. My main issue is that the other technicians here are neither welcoming nor very trustworthy. I scheduled a week in advance for some common car maintenance. Upon arrival I was told that I can come back later to get it done because they don't have the supplies necessary. Seriously? That's why I called and scheduled an appointment in the first place. I asked for a quote at that point and was given a verbal "ballpark" figure that would be criminal if it were any higher. Other Thoughts: I hate to say it but I've scheduled elsewhere and probably wont be back with the way things are. People do business with the people they like and can trust. I've given this shop a number of chances since Ken hasn't been there, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. read more

So, so, sad that Ken is never in the shop anymore. I hear he's in med school now? Things have definitely changed since he found something else to do. I used to go there for all my auto issues and always recommended this place to everyone. Now I regret it. I had an incident where I was quoted one price on an expensive fix. I got the money together and called Diego there. The price magically went up a few hundred dollars in the last month! Wow. Not cool. I'm going to start shopping around for a different place. They obviously don't need my business since they are overcharging everyone else. And yes, other people who went there as well warned me that they started overcharging there. :0( read more

All I can say is WOW! I finally found an auto service repair shop and mechanics who know what they are doing and don't overcharge you for needless repairs and parts. The AC compressor on my Saturn VUE recently died and needed replaced. I had taken it to another service shop (Tony's Service Center on 16th Street & Missouri who proceeded to tell me there were several other things wrong). Long story short - Desert Auto Works did an amazing job and charged me nearly $700 dollars less than what I was quoted previously. Keep up the great work! Ken and Diego did three repairs for me in the past few years. Each time, the actual repair came in well under the estimate. All repairs were done with competence, and in a timely manner. This week, my clutch started giving me issues. I called Diego and he told me to come right down. After test driving my car, Diego's associate topped off the fluids, and twenty minutes later, I was on my way. Total charge? Zero. This is customer service that you used to get in the old days! have A 05 Acura that was leaking power steering fluid and even going out while driving. After a few high quotes from the dealership I was recommended to go to Desert Auto Works by a friend. Upon inspecting my car Diego and his team also pointed out that I had a torn motor mount. Diego recommended that I rebuild the OEM Power steering pump and he helped source that parts needed. He also had the bushings from the torn motor mount replaced and my car drives great again. Over all I was very impressed with the quality and price of the service and I will be visiting Desert Auto Works for any of my future repairs! read more
