Bought 2 cars from Carvana and took them to desert auto for A level 2 diagnostic 2 weeks after 1 of my cars water pump randomly blows.... They didn't detect it in the level 2 diagnostic 3 weeks later my other cars O2 sensors went out as well as my coolant reservoir constantly leaking... Also while they were doing my diagnostics they somehow got water inside my door... (it was raining when they had the car) - they did remove it after I complained and nearly lost my snout over it. But over all! This place is garbage! Also if Carvana recommend you to them! Bad idea! (Go find your own mechanic to do a real diagnostic on your car!) They cover up everything wrong with the car basically but will still do whatever to have you come out of pocket! Highly disappointed and never returning. -10/10 would never recommend read more

I've always had a great experience with Desert Automotive since I switched from a dealership a couple of years ago. Most recently, I had an issue they were aware of with other diesel trucks like mine that would be regular maintenance every few years at thousands of dollars a pop. One of their employees knew a creative way to get it fixed under warranty at no additional cost to me other than the initial inspection. Had to give one star to be able to review a zero star , was over charged on a service by $900 dollars , I asked Mortys auto service for quote on same service and the response was " you're going to get angry " 3 hours work and parts $900 , was charged over $1700 for service provided by desert automotive, here is the fact , took my car into desert automotive ( for 3 hours work ) and had to call them 4 days later to pressure them about my car not being done , finally got my car after their closing hours that NIGHT , they did good work , the place looks great ( you the client pays for all that crap in the office ) I walked in with my written estimate from Morty's automotive for $900 and was INSTANTLY offered a $500 refund which I accepted because I don't like to argue , and figured this would be something better than nothing back , and to add to the anger there was a engine dummy light still on when I left and was given the excuse that there was further inspection needed to turn this light off , I drove to a reputable smog place and that place turned off the light immediately for $40 , this place is not good unless you have so much money that you just don't care about spending your money , not a place I would want you to take your car , I gave it a month or two before I wrote this review , I wanted to make sure I was justified to write it , sometimes it's just angry people writing reviews because they are miserable, that's not my case , I'm trying to help you , had desert automotive do work for me once before , again they do good work but I was still overcharged at that time and had to get on their case to get my car back after closing hours , screw me twice shame on me , with all that said I made this account to be helpful to the consumer, good luck to you the reader. read more

In late April 2024, we had a 2018 Sonata suddenly have the Passive Alarm System stop working. It didn't affect drivability, but was concerning. On many recommendations, we took it to Desert Auto. They did locate the issue as rodent damage to wiring under the hood, which disabled the Passive Alarm System. We authorized repairs and got the car back, working correctly, in about 2 days. The cost was a bit over $1100 with a $500 deductible. During the 3rd week of July, the Passive Alarm System was working normally one day and not working the next. I started looking under the hood and could see the wire that Desert Auto had repaired. It had been wrapped with some adhesive tape. I looked closer and found that the wire was pulled apart. It turned out that the repair that Desert Auto performed consisted of twisting the bare ends of the broken wire together and taping it. Evidently the connection was weak and just came apart. So, I was able to strip back the wires, connect them with solder to ensure a strong connection and wrap them with heat shrink to end up with a very strong, electrically conductive connection and sealed the whole length of wire with Scotch 33 Electrical Tape. I'm not sure if the work done on my car by Desert Auto is typical, but it looks like the tech didn't care enough to make a good repair. The Desert Auto staff was very helpful and kept me informed during the original repair. But the weak link in the chain of repair was evidently the tech who made the repair. I hope Desert Auto takes this review as constructive, because right now, I'm not sure I would go back. read more

I've taken vehicles to them in the past and was very satisfied with their work. Not so much recently. Cost me $1300 to replace the $80 blend door in the heater/AC of my '08 Dakota. Shop rate is a killer, but I paid because I'm not physically able to do it myself at the present time. Should have waited until I was... They found some other problems that would have tacked on another $1200, but weren't critical items, so I declined that work. When they were finished, I was not pleased that I needed a jump start from my friend before I could drive home. Should have made them do it, by then trust was somewhat diminished, and all they wanted was more money for a new battery. Apparently, after vehicle Inspection, which it passed with flying colors, both dome lights were left on, all week, while it was in the shop, and nobody noticed. Nearly killed the battery for good, but after charging, it passes load testing, but the vehicle is still dead in my driveway. Now it seems to have a problem with the starter, which was just fine before they had it. In the 8 years I've owned the truck, it has never failed to crank, first time, every time. I literally only had to bump the key, and it would start itself, without fail. Not looking forward to crawling under it with my bad back and pulling it out, but I need my truck, yesterday. I'm reminded of what I've said so many times in the past; never pay someone else to do something that you're able to do yourself, just as well, or probably better. Desert Automotive doesn't seem to care anymore. In my opinion, they're no different from too many other businesses in this town nowadays - they just want to get paid. read more

We were visiting Sierra Vista from out of town and found ourselves climbing a steep hill with steam pouring out of the front of the vehicle. We turned around and limped back into town, pulling up in front of the first garage we could find with decent reviews and was open. Every five-star review this place has should be a 10! We came in with no appointment, but Camille and his team immediately went to work with diagnosis and sourcing a replacement radiator for me. After deciding to spend another night in town, Lexy drove us to our BnB that night and picked us up the next morning. Desert Automotive went out of their way to make a very inconvenient breakdown an incredibly positive experience for us. I could not recommend them highly enough. I can't believe it after getting ripped off by another diesel mech in Tucson for 4 months and did not fix it we brought it to Chelsea at Desert Automotive and they fixed it and some of the mistakes that the other person did. He was honest and treated my rig like it was his. He new we were going to CA and said let him know when we get back how it did. Seriously concerned. First, I brought my 2018 Camry in for a repair and alignment. They did a great job with it and priced as expected. This was two years ago. Second, I brought in my Avalon last year - 2019 - the dealer had checked the alignment and one rear wheel was on the "acceptable" edge. The dealer would not adjust it because it was "acceptable". I brought it to Desert Automotive, dropping it, to come back that evening. They told me they loosened everything up, and then re-tightened, bringing it into alignment. That was awesome! Third - July 23, 2020 . . . Well, dang it, I'm not sure how to feel about this. I left at 0830 to get the 1999 Ford F350 alignment. Gotta protect the new tires, y'know. I finally got home at 1430! I bought this truck as a literal basket case. I rebuilt the engine and transmission, and now am slowly restoring the rest of the Beast. First, after an hour and a half, they tell me it needs shims to get the caster correct and would have to roll to town to get them. This was about 10 am. I winced, but it was not unexpected. Finally about 1130, they say it's done. But driving home, the damn thing had a hard right pull. It was doing a "proper lane change". I took it to a residential area without crowned streets, and it still pulled at 10mph. I brought it back. The issue was that the differences in the caster of the two wheels was too much, resulting in the pull. Had to wait AGAIN . . . . What got my goat is that they said they took it for a road test before they first returned it to me. Like where, around the building?!?! Is that piss-poor supervision? Lack of quality control? Both wheels caster was within spec, but the two readings were too separated from each other, resulting in the pull. The guy that looked at it pointed immediately to the caster readings being the problem. I'm guessing he was the shop foreman -- So who did quality control inspection on the work? However, they made it right, and the truck handles fine. I took tire measurements and will keep a close eye for even wear. I must say - They are considered one of the best in Sierra Vista, which is good, because except for Toyota, the dealers are pure ****. read more

I don't like doing this.... but feel I have to. I took a vehicle there to have some diagnostics work don't for an issue I have been having. I won't get into details because they aren't important. I was told my engine is shot and i was quoted. I didn't believe it so I went and paid the rather large diagnostics bill and was on my way. I took my vehicle to another person, that came highly recommended from a number of other mechanics. This person had questions about what diagnostics were done and how Desert Auto came to their conclusion about my motor. I called Desert and spoke to the same man I had been (front desk, not a tech). I asked some questions and was told "doesn't this other mechanic have the ability to do the same tests, why are you calling me....". I was then told "I'll ask the tech when I can and call you back" 7 days no call back. The point is..... I paid for something and when I had questions I was met with lies, deceit, and basically no communication. ----------update The owner, Mr Clark contacted me. He looked into my billing and the services provided. He admitted that his staff dropped the ball and was very sincere in his apologies. I was told I was overcharged for the diagnostics that I had requested originally. Mr Clark stayed here wanted to work something out to fix the issues at hand. We mutually decided on a way to resolve the issue and I eventually left satisfied. I would have nothing bad to say about this shop other than the lack of communication. I would hope that there is some additional oversight added somehow to make sure this happens as less frequent as possible. read more

Positive the WORST place to take your auto for repairs! Had work done on the Brakes, which were not right- after third complaint, the auto needed a new clutch and was road rough tested to ensure a new clutch was needed-payback from the mechanic! Back Brakes never worked and was stopping on only one right front to stop! Think about the Legal ramifications if I had an accident with an auto with no brakes? After complaints, nothing was resolved and even promises of a new clutch was never filled! All Lip Service and their mechanic needs to return to training, front desk Chelsea- looked the other way with my complaints-NO HELP to resolve my issues! FRONT DESK KNEW OF the way the mechanic mistreats the auto-and how they handle my complaints- Took to another Mechanic, and found the back brakes never worked (with new drums) and needed a new clutch- $2000.00 Bill! After getting a sketchy diagnosis from our local dealership, we took our car to Desert Automotive. They eliminated one diagnosis from the dealer but did confirm another. We had our radiator replaced and head unit for our AC replaced. Camille was great with the intake process. We allowed them to keep the car for 3 days to make sure everything was done. I didn't drive the car after I returned home for 2 days. When I did, with 15 min, it started to overheat, I pulled over quickly and called for my husband to come see the car. He opened the hood and found that the radiator reservoir cap was not put back on causing it to overheat. Within 10 min of my husband calling Desert Auto, they said they would tow it back if needed. They immediately picked up my car and said they would have it fixed by end of day and if not, give us a loaner car. They advised they would check to see if any further damage done, run a pressure test, checked hoses, check for for any leak and refilled coolant. It was 4:15 when they picked up and had it back to us at 6pm on the dot. They apologized deeply and gave us a gift card in return and thanked us for allowing them to make it right. Although it was an mistake that shouldn't have happened, it was how they recovered that we appreciated. Their responsive customer service is what we will remember. To be fair my review needs to be in 2 parts. First, their techs are good, maybe even very good. What offsets that by a long shot is their horrible customer service. I'd been using them for a number of years and they started out ok. Things changed about a year or so ago and there was a dramatic turnaround. Now, when one of my vehicles is in their shop I can't get updates or answers from them. They promise call backs that never come and often lie when cornered. At one point my vehicle was in their shop for 3 or 4 days and I'm getting the usual runaround from them. When I finally got through to the service rep handling my account he obviously tried to coverup the fact that my vehicle hadn't even been looked at by citing about 5 minutes worth of work they had done. I could tell from his answers he was lying. It seems they will quickly accept your car and lead you to believe that they'll get right on it, but then it sits in their yard until they feel like looking at it. In the meantime, if you ask for, or expect updates, you will be sorely disappointed. read more

I took my vehicle, 1998 Toyota Tacoma truck to them after I have exhausted all other options and having taken it to Tucson several times. They managed to solve all the issues. Alignment, engine noise, water pump problem, and other issues successfully. They charged me a very reasonable rate. My truck drives great now and I am very happy with the results. These guys are professional. Dealing with Tom in the front office and a great and amazing mechanic, Justin. Justin took the time to diagnose the problem, and he managed to actually pinpoint an issue that has been going on for several months. I was amazed to say the least.
